The sight of the 1st few pictures makes me really really sad as it reminds me of the Western world where i live now and the 1st question that pops into my mind was what happened to Nigeria??
we have similar buildings here that still look the way the ones in those pictures look and they are from the same era, so again, what happened to Nigeria??

im sure a lot of ya have ideas as to what happened so imma go back now and start reading your comments, this shall be interesting read!
FamilyRe: I Am Sad by stunna2(m): 7:02pm On Jul 18, 2011
hahahahaha! you gonna ruin a perfectly okay relationship because of foolishness woman?? since you married your husband, what have you done to try and get to know his culture better??
ALL WHITE PEOPLE YOU TELL WILL ASK YOU TO LEAVE YOUR AFRICAN HUSBAND because HE CALL YOU HIS CHILDREN'S MUM?? SO EXPLAIN TO ME WHY MY FATHER STAYED WITH MY MOTHER FOR THE BETTER OF 60 YEARS AND CALL HER MAMA STEFANIEhuh , are you telling me that father never loved mother because i never saw them kiss or hold hands ever all my life??
well my father did love my mom and married her not  for papers, because they both lived in same village and did not need any papers to do so!!!!

white people do not lie about their age to potential dates?? hahaha!
do you think every African man in Europe and even those in Africa was born in a hospital with dates and year of birth recorded as you have it in Europe??

if he is much older than he said he was, how come you did not notice??  have you never lied to him b4??

well, why dont you leave him, because you know as soon as you do, another white woman will either marry him or he will go to Nigeria and marry a younger woman than you, then you will be happy and he will be happy too!!

do you want an advice for real?? well here is my advice and im giving it to you as a black man who know how you think as a white woman and you must believe me when i say this: if he does not look too old for you, stop investigating his age since your husband is an immigrant in Europe with documents with your country's government; you are making a huge huge mistake on your quest to try to prove that the age your husband has on his documents and handed to your government even b4 he met you is wrong and a lie, because that is what you are trying to do and it will only lead you, your husband and all your children to a great heartache if and when you get to the end of your quest!

if you are a drama queen, i know what you are doing gives you so much excitement to catch your husband in a lie and prove that you are smart and hence you will not stop!

REMEMBER EVEN IF HIS AGE HE GAVE YOU IS NOT HIS REAL AGE, IT IS THE AGE ON THE DOCUMENT HE GAVE TO YOUR GOVERNMENT AND WHAT U ARE DOING IS WRONG - TRYING TO HAVE HIM LIE TO YOU THAT YES, HE HAS A SECOND MORE CORRECT AGE SO YOU CAN USE THIS AGAINST HIM LATER!

since you already have kids, im sure he has his papers by now and would have left u if he wanted to by now, but the way u are going lady, if he finds out, that will be the beginning of his attempt to leave u!! REMEMBER JUST AS WHITE PEOPLE R TELLING U TO LEAVE HIM, SO R BLACK PEOPLE TELLING HIM TO LEAVE YOU TOO!

if you find it unromantic that hE calls you his children's mom behind you, then find a way to talk to him about it, k

people have way worse issues than you do right now and be happy and enjoy his love before you ruin it all!

oh, white gurls lie about their age all the time and so do white men and black men and asian girls and , hope u get my point and i wish you love or luck if you do not take my advice!smiley

there is no law that says Nigeria must stay together as one, but it can if it's people want to!!

what price must be payed to keep it together?? there are very many neighbouring countries that have more peace than same country North and South Nigeria!

it is the unreasonableness of the islamic religion that baffles me, you feel me! if you are here on NL and saying the north should not be blamed for the activities of the boko whatever sect, then send us links to show the rest of us that the north are speaking out against them, we can then read those and be reassured that we are all in this together, k!! is it not true that Nigeria and Cameroon has more peace than the North and South of Nigeria do?? so some1 pls give me well thought-out logical or human argument why the country should not split??

if/when you spend more time battling people here than you do battling or speaking out against the evils of ur religion then we have no choice but to assume that Y'ALL ARE IN UNCONSCIOUSNESS COLLUSION WITH THEM BLOOD SUCKERS BOKO mess-UPS UP NORTH!

so it means me and them make on the average same monthly salary, so, if this is the case, lets compare our lifestyles and see where their LAVISH LIFESTYLES and a LIFE OF SHAMELESS LUXURY come from!!!

i do however appreciate the info, since we can now watch them all like a Hawk! any lifestyle that is hugely deviant from a lifestyle that such salaries can provide should be put under the microscope by 150million peoples of naija! , they will think twice b4 looting, because  "but we know how much you are payed' can help control unadulterated greed!!

at least it does in other places, but who know weather it will work with Nigerians??

OVER HERE, THERE IS A STORY ABOUT A POLICE OFFICER AND A NIGERIAN:
POPO COME TO CHECK ON A NAIJA SUSPECTED FRAUDSTER AND FINDS DUDE HAS A LARGE SCREEN TV THAT COST $5000 BACK THEN, !
POLICE ASKED MAN HOW WHERE YOU ABLE TO AFFORD THIS TV SINCE ACCORDING TO OUR RECORDS YOU DO NOT WORK BUT RATHER YOU ARE ON A GOVERNMENT MONTHLY ASSISTANCE OF $600??
POLICE REMINDED NAIJA MAN THAT HIM HIMSELF HAVE A JOB AND MAKES $50.000.00 A YEAR AND CAN NOT AFFORD THAT TV, THEN ASKED WHAT NAIJA MAN HAS FOR AN EXPLANATIONhuh

Well, there was none and he was carted away with legions of fraud charges, ! bottom line, although naija people are not the most fraudulent in the world, yet their ostentatious lifestyles is what makes them stand out like sour grapes! they just can not resist

so, now that i know what y'all make, i shall be watchin' all you theives, !

The US stress about the Value of the Chinese currency not the naira, because a lot of the goods DUMPED in the US are from China but oil from naija is priced in US$ so why would they try to control your unimportant currency?? THEY ACTUALLY WANT THE CHINESE CURRENCY TO RISE IN VALUE!

Why are we only reactive in this country? We know that something can cause problem, we will not do it till it causes the  problem. We we were approving the buildings we know will block water channels, were we not aware it will backfire in future? We need to be proactive.

If those houses got the needed approvals, are they not going to be compensated? God help this country. Nigeria is defined as a country with citizens who know the solution of their problems but will not do it, rather will prefer to cry and make noise without actions backing their noise. Sorry oo. Eko oni baje oo
haba, did u not read where it was categorically said the new buildings on the channels were illegal?? , some of the sites now being prepared to be built on where not there two months ago when the place was last inspected??
PoliticsRe: Lagos Flood: Fashola Orders Demolition Of Church, Other Illegal Structures by stunna2(m): 7:17pm On Jul 13, 2011
Kobojunkie:
I am saying illegal structures and someone feels he needs to DEFINE illegal structures. That shows a disconnect, of some kind, and I am sorry I don't believe you have ever lived in Lagos. No lagoscian would have done that.

Look, I spent my life in that state and I know quite well how terrible the drainage system in Lagos is when compared to developed/semi-developed cities, some even in Africa. I have witnessed rains come in and sweep away whole bridges connecting communities . . . I have seen how the rains can create gullies and essentially wash houses away in the same Lagos, not because the rains were particularly heavier than years before, but mainly because we chose to ignore the need to create better channels for the water to flow  through.

Building a structure on a water way is NOT a problem as long as the plan includes building alternate channels for the water to flow away. This is water we are talking about here. It has no brain to demand the channel be the original one or it refuses to flow via the alternate. Ancient man has been channeling water for the longest. This is nothing new and so does not qualify as a good excuse for what has been happening.
ABEG WHICH KIND NONE-SENSE ARGUMENT YOU DEY HERE DEY MAKE, HUR??  do you look at your own argument and shake ur head and congratulate yourself about how much sense you make? look, which Lawful State will issue you a permit to build a house on a water way and then issue you another permit to make an alternate drainage way? just because you have 5million Naira to build a house does not mean you can put it anywhere you want and the government can then redesign a new drainage system for you and every one else who wishes to build anywhere they like!

abeg the governor is correct in his talk and you have no logic and no City or State anywhere will take ur argument over that of the governor, period!

he said people are illegally building on drainage systems and it must stop and you are here telling us that it need not stop as long as alternate drainage channels are provided?? who will fund those alternate drains?? and when is enough enough?? pls stop this argument with the other guy who told u he has made this points to u before, listen to him, he is on point and you are not! nobody needs to travel to America to know u r wrong!

you picture a great lawless city where money flows endlessly and people build wherever they want illegally and just make alternate drainage system that cost kobo kobo to make and in this reality, Lagos is as rich as Tokyo??

abeg the city of Tokyo has more money than the whole of Nigeria with the oil you have included, okay, in case you do not know,

yes, we do litter in the developed world but u can not pack a bicycle anywhere you like here without consequence, never mind build a car park without permit or cut a tree without permit or kill a rabbit in the bush without permit never mind build a house on a drainage channel illegally and argue for a new alternate channel!! if you kill a squirrel that makes a nest in ur house here in my city and people see u do it and call the cops, you will go to court for animal cruelty, period, pls stop referencing or citing america to bolster ur none-sense arguments becos some of us are from america and ur arguments do not make sense to us, thanks very much

the situation is a mess!

i do not believe in the death penalty and thinks long prison sentence is better for criminals like her and if it can be proven that she will re-offend, then she should be declared a dangerous offender and put in prison for life!

the justices do not make laws directly but can do so indirectly by declaring a law to be unconstitutional,

and finally, because of false convictions and killing of innocents, im also against the death penalty on that bases, and no- my opinion is the same even if i was the one killed!!

Nollywood people are however out of line, and by the way, we are in the second decade of the 21st century, so the use of 'this is the 21st century is now dated and most certainly not helping issues here! only the family of the dead man could have helped saved her life but by fighting so hard after killing their loved one, she made it impossible for them to come to the high court and beg for her life to be spared, so here we are now with no more options for her!

life sucks, doesn't it?? yup, life is a b i t c h and then u die so, dont complicate what is already a very complicated existence and remove yourself from destructive path,

You don't know that's a requirement in some work places nowadays--?

1) You must come early to work---check.

2) You must dress appropraitely---check.

3) You must accept your Boss's friend request on Facebook ASAP.---check.
still not a problem, have an official FB account and have two or 3 co-workers there, then have a second one with your friends, and party pictures on it! how hard is that??

, maybe people are mad at you because you claim to live in Land of Gold?? hahahaha!
just a thought!
i hear SA is an okay place, but our individual opinions about how good or bad our places of residence are, are just too subjective to matter, so international standared by recognized world bodies should be used!

somalia has higher life expectancy level than Nigeria, and that says a lot!
and you people talking about this Leki Place, yall better be quiet as that place is just another regular hood in any advanced country!

i find new Nigerian immigrants to 1st world nations are the most bitter and fake this huge love for Nigeria because while in heaven's gate, they are still far from paradise and have this Nigerian ideal they speak of all the time, naija this, naija that, im gonna make my money and go back, la la la! once they have visited naija once after they have settled down in their new land and you ask them so when are you moving back, all you hear is my brother, forget Nigeria, i went there and i was shocked how bad things have gotten!!

you are more on point here but you need to remember that this forum is not a professional trades body and that means people come here with varying degree of education and therefore varying capacity to reason or understand reason! dont get yourself all worked up over the ignorance, by which i mean people's inability to see what you think should be obvious!

Nigerians have this reputation of overestimating their place in the world, in terms of riches and level of education and development achievements and such other things! , actually Nigerians are sometimes convinced that they deserved to be the 51st state of the The United states of America!!! but what can you do, you chuckle and move on with your day!

A WEAK MAN WITH VERY STRONG EMOTIONS ARE VERY DEADLY COMBINATIONS!!

issues are commonly restricted here as some people can not or are not able to see the interconnectedness of things and at other times, your being in SA is attacked when you show sorrow over a video about terrible conditions in Lagos! truth is, those who say it's not that bad usually have a better life than those of the undesirables being shown and it's same everywhere! the questions then is always;
why are we starting troubles again;
leave things alone;
it will get better;
its not that bad;
there are similar terrible places everywhere!!

so you say your peace and move on, but i can assure ya some of us do see your points and agree with ya to a very large extent at least on this issue, !

Blame the government for everything. There is a law which prohibits street trading and even trading along raillines. In developed countries, every law is obeyed, those who obey the laws are human beings not spirits. In Nigeria, why cant those laws be obeyed as well? No. In Nigeria, they will blame the government for even passing the law, and on Nairaland, they will fight each other tooth and nail on the reasons why the law should not be obeyed. And if tmrow government pulls down the structures, they will shout, the government is not a listening government, GEJ is daft, this and that but they will not speak against those who dis obeyed the laws in the first case.

What a people.
name the developed country where all the laws are obeyed!! haha
clueless.
do you know the lent the government go to keep people away from train track??

i however must admit that this scene could never be repeated in an advanced society shaa, nigerians are very lawless and gamble with their own lives as if it has no meaning whatsoever! most of the people here have good point but kudos to those who have solutions and the worst people are those who seems to shout loud and clear that just because it has been that way a long time, the situation will not change and therefore, should be left alone??

those of you talking about India, dont forget that country is just another third world country like nigeria now, but at the rate they are developing and investing in building a new country, i wonder what yall will say a decade or two from now when they may have crossed the line

frankkky:
@poster let me try and answer the points you raised out of my response cause they are good points, yes why would someone live in europe and go and rent a flat in lagos?i was only making reference  to the exchange rate of naira to the euro,in my case i rented a flat in lagos for two years before i completed building my house, why?because it was cheaper than paying for hotels anytime i visited home and some of my siblings who were corpers then had to have somewhere to stay in lagos.
Another thing is that except for the ones from wealthy homes in nigeria, the rest of us travelled out to make a better life for ourselves,to go back home one day and settle down because  there is no place like home(my own personal belief),so the reason for leaving becomes the focal point of whatever you are doing ,personally i dont like the idea of living stingy here just to do things back home but i was once in that stage hence i cant blame guys who are in that current situation,if i see u doing an honest work here and living in a room but building a home back home i commend you and even help out at times ,today i live alone in a decent flat and have over two mansions in  nigeria and i am sure many are like that today but it wasnt easy at the begining ,that is the point am trying to make.in my case at everystage i was trutfull to my friends and family back home, whether they choosed to belive me or not is their problem not mine,i even lost the woman i was supposed to marry then cause things were still rough for me here,i refused to bring her over then  and i didnt want to waste her time or give her a wrong immpression ,the only thing that pained me is that now that things are ok for me she is married, thats life for you but i would never bring a woman to come join me to hustle that time but some guys would do it,i think thats the point you making here sha
i understand what u mean bro,

however, i seems to have taken a different approach than you have, in the sense that i decided to build my Mansion where i actually live b4 maybe building one back home, either now or later when im ready or willing to move back there!
im convinced that since i have one life to live that i know of, i must live it in the best house and environment as possible!
we all must 1st live in one room or share a room but you did so while saving money to build ur own place as an investment in ur future, very good! but the issue i raised is with people who rush there to go and show they have made it when in fact they hav not!

look at any naija movie: graduate from college, leave a girl and travel while ur school mates stay home and struggle; come back three years later and she is dating a local okay guy who have been struggling as a manager for 15years at some company and she is fighting with him n taking a walk when u zoom by on ur 70.000Jeep; u pick her up and take her to ur hotel and apologize and the two of u go mansion shopping a few days later and buy few more jeeps and live happily ever after or until, the efcc comes calling! hahahahaha!

why am i still seeing this story repeated in naija movie today?? no wonder i hear most of the men who were married to naija actresses left them for women from overseas,
the pretending must stop
most nigerians who drive jeeps can not afford the monthly insurance cost in a society with laws and order!!
even in advanced nations, nigerians often drive a 50.000jeep n not have insurance as they can not afford it, so what gives??

so, it's the attitude that is the source of this behaviour that im trying to address here, and im glad with the contributions from yall so far

omega25red:
I guess i agree that some people do go home and pretend. But even those who live in Europe and the Americas do the same. I mean everyone works and eventually you take a vacation and how you choose to spend that time is your concern. If you want to go home to show off so be it at least you worked hard for that money.

poster have you ever been on vacation to an all inclusive resort? where your food drinks entertainment is paid for even before you get there and you go to such a resort a live like a king because people cater to your every need. After the week or 2 weeks you spend there you have to go home and at home no one brings you a drink or food . I say this to say that is how i spend my vacations and if someone want to go home with a new jeep and front like they are ballers then so be it it's their own vacation.
points taken; however, when people go on vacations in the West and spend one or two thousand dollars for a week or two, remember they may come back to a house where the monthly mortgage is like 2 or 3000 dollars so by any means ,,,the vacations is withing their lifestyle as far as i can see! in the west, people rent a car when they go on vacations but i have countless people who say while living in Europe, they ship down a 5000 dollar jeep becos they might go home for two or 3 weeks 2years from now and are then pissed when their bros use and wreck the jeep before they come!

u r on point but their are some egregious situations that im referring to here, same as people in the 80s; fly to Japan for 3 year then back home with a BMW and 10k but with no Visa n be stranded for ever-after back in naija in poorverty, after showing off for a year!! whats up with that??

that's the kind of foolishness im talking about, u feel me!

but why does a university student flash me so i can call her back so she can ask me for N50.000.00huh
why does a sister flash a brother when their mom is in an accident??

when family expects u to be sending tens of thousands of Naira to them from a conversation, tell me why they must flash u rather than be decent and get a N500 card to call,

I know expectations are high but you cant give what you dont have and peoples expectations is no excuse to go into crime or prostitution and if you believe in yourself and are there legally or ilegally (things go hard sha) with clear goals and vision for yourself its just a matter of time before you can show some love but if you are looking at chidi that went yesterday came back with x6,built a mansion for his father and bought car for his father you will put yourself under unnecessary pressure also politicians steal because the system allows them to steal and become rolemodels. If you watch too much Nigerian movies you might also be under pressure.
again you hav raised some very interesting observations based on facts! i do agree with u, but i however believe that a very substantial part of the reason people do this who live like a retched african man while in europe and go live like a weathy european while in africa for two or four weeks n then come back and continue with the previous retched life

@poster hmmmmm let me try in my own way to answer your question which i find very interesting,i have personally notice this trend a lot among some friends i have but let me use my self in this case, during my first visit home i shouted at the rooftops on top of my voice to all my relatives and friends that the western world is not easy o,even told them about the farm where i was working then, but do you know what they called me at the end of the day?a selfish man who didnt want to help anybodyi was called names by my own brothers and sister and even parents,i remember a particular friend i advised against travelling then nothing this guy no take spoil my name but as for me have resolved to speak the truth at all times no matter what thats me for you.
The truth is there are certain things very difficult to explain to poor folks back home, for instance take a look at any nigerian or immigrant here everyone looks fresh, despite whatever they might be going through, even a common cleaner in europe looks fresher than a minister in nigeria though the minster is richer in terms of money in the account, but in apperance the minister looks like the one suffering , now when this "cleaner" visits nigeria, even his friends and family cant reconganise him again, what do you expect them to say or belive?even if the guy decides to dey wear slippers and rags it will still be obvious that say this guy no be homebased o.the truth is that there are certain advantages in living in a developed world, you can never compare the living standard of a poor white man to a middle class nigerian living in nigeria, the so called poor whiteman can still enjoy certain things a poorman can never enjoy in nigeria like for example equality before the law ,a decent car etc so many people are aready to live in one room as long as they can gather their earnings here to build a home back home,if you ask me i think thats a very wise and smart thing,a rent for a flat here for two months  can rent you a flat in lagos for a year
well, if u live in Europe, why do u wanna rent a flat in Lagos?? my father build a small house in the village where mom raised us, not in the villiage of his mother where he was born!

so, why does a man not save up mpney to rext a good place where they live rather than share rooms and then go live it up elsewhere on vacations, ?

u do have many good points and from reading, i see there r many reasons why guys do this:
i just want ur further opinion on the above point! thanks

Petroleum engineers do not build rigs.

In actual fact, engineers design the systems and you need skilled technicians to do build the systems.

What is lacking is institutional/organisational capability. That requires capital, construction facilities and the like which are not readily available in Nigeria.

Besides, majority of rigs are built in specific countries in the world with the competitive advantage to do so. No point reinventing the wheel when you can get the technology off the shelf and use it in your application.

buzugee:
bros how body now ? you just go missing in action like dat sha. hope all is well. i hear ya but this obtains in all aspects of naija life. why engineers cant build inverters, gens, water generating pumps in villages, solar panels etc etc, we are endowed with the resources to make them. this is why westerners come to steal these resources. because we are not using them. the engineers are busy drinking peppersoup
i have always wondered y u know, !!
someone better not be using the example of anyone remouing engine from a car and using it to run a garri grinding machine, i don wanna hear about it, k!
where r the Solar Panels? the locally designed or reversed engineered tri cycles of whatever? why does the goverment always get the blame?
DO WHAT PEOPLE DO IN AMERICA, INVENT SOMETHING AND PERSUADE Leaders of INDUSTRY IT WILL MAKE MONEY AND THEY WILL FUND THE MASS PRODUCTIONS OF UR INVENTION AND THE MARKETING OF IT!!

those of yall here calling people illiterate, if u r an engineer, why dont u do what people in the West do as i just described above?/
why dont all ur universities have none-stop electricity provided by the engineering faculties??

smh

@poster, ths is just the problem wt Nigerians and its one of d rizn why evryone is striving to make it by all means wen they travelled abroad.
The people at home are the main cause of this behaviour because once they knw u hv travelled overseas, evryone wl be requesting for sometin and even telling u wat other guys that travelled were doing for their relatives. If u tel them that u are nt doing drugs bt a legitimate job, some wl say that u aren't smart enuf and that u are so dull.
I knw a guy that travelled to South Africa last year june,he thot he wl hit it fast bt nw he's regreting it,coming bak is his best decision nw bt he doesn't wnt to come bak empty handed. He shares a room wt 4 guys who came b4 hm and yet none is doing well, they hardly feeds and her sister has sent almost $3k to hm.
Its really a problem wt we Nigerians bt nt all.

How are the people at home the main cause of this behavoiur ehn? how can u hold other people responsible for your own behaviour? You simply react like that because you have been lying to yourself so if you tell them you dont have money they will lynch you.? have they lynched the ones in Nigeria because they dont have? Yes people have expectations high and low but they are also aware of the realities of the day if you let them know. A lot of Nigerians know say na hustle full that side you just need not be a showoff. When you tell the truth it will set you free.
it's easier said than done, africans are raised with family values and it's not like in the west where it's usually me me me! we r not happy unless we have the approval of family , this is why they can have so much influence on us all - even politician thieves in nigeria mostly steal to be hailed and approved by the people - if no one cares, as in the West, then they would struggle mostly for what they need, rather than show off lifestyle!

i have a different take on this 70% of Nigerian girls that are supposedly pro sti-tutes!!

maybe they are just under-sexed or have sexomanian and just use the guise of sex trade to get all the sex they want and avoid being called what they really may be- over-sexed nympho-maniacs!!!!!!!

just saying lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

^2Buff u made sense there

But would you believe that  70% of Nigerian ladies esp those in the Universities

Think they can achieve anything today by opening their legs to just any man (BB is a case study )

If they simply dont curb that mentality tell me what difference would it make in their lives

An average Nigerian girl with that Mentality in Unilag, Uniben, Uniport or even AAU

would rather do prostitution than learn a damn trade!

I have seen ladies work @ KFC here and I have seen ladies learn tailoring back home too

But these Nigerian ladies all want something - Quick money- as long as there's a condom then thats access to quick money

mtschewww - rubbish

yes, i totally agree with you and i understand what u r saying!

it's like that even in europe and one day after one of those boys sharing a room have suffered up and down and save 5k or 10k he will go to naija and pretend he has made it big and everyone will be envious but only for him to go back to his hard life selling bananas on the streets of south africa!!
but it can only stop if we smarten up and let people at home who r too weak or too poor to travel or send their children away, turn around n tell us how to live and what's up!!
if they say we r dull for not selling drugs or prostituting or doing 419, no problem, they should come and do it or send their children so that way, they will not need us to go steal or do anything to impress or help them!!

what do u think??

we need to be strong and stopped being so weak and controlled by what others say or think of us, life is hard for everyone including the people running their mouths always

hmmmm, the story like life is complicated! it's true that she has deliberately used the system and assuming she is not of the peoples who made the nigerian system non-functional, then it's understandable!
i feel for the tax payers of britain here who are clearly upset at the abuse of their system!

but where is all the stolen money by Nigerian leaders hidden in British banks??
why does the British government not proudly announce to nigeria on a regular bases, wow, we have 1billion pounds more of ur stolen money and we will be very glad to have a ceremony and return the money,
