President Goodluck has deployed some Ministers who survived today’s cabinet shake-up to oversee the activities of the ministries which lost their ministers Wednesday, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has said. Mr. Maku said the president gave the directive through the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Anyim Pius Anyim. Mr. Maku, who briefed journalists after the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, said that he had been deployed to supervise the Ministry of Defence, while the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, was assigned to oversee the Ministry of Education. The Minister of State for Niger Delta Development, Darius Ishaku, will oversee the Ministry of Environment, while the Minister of Solid Mineral Development, Musa Sada, was assigned to oversee the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, just as Minister of Communication Technology, Omobola Johnson, was assigned to oversee the Ministry of Science and Technology, vacated by Ita Ewa Okon. The Minister of state, Works, Bashir Yuguda, was assigned to oversee the Ministry of National Planning following the sack of the longest serving cabinet member, Shamsudeen Usman, who was first appointed minister by late President Umaru Yar’Adua. Mr. Maku also announced that the Ministers of Agriculture, Akinwumi Adesina and Power, Chinedu Nebo were directed to take charge of their ministries alone pending appointment of new ministers of state. The information minister quoted President Jonathan as thanking the removed Ministers for their service to their fatherland, and saying he would continue to engage them in “the implementation of the Transformation Agenda”. Justifying the sack of the cabinet members, the president, according to Mr. Maku, explained that it was necessary that ”government is retooled from time to time to bring new lease of life to an administration”. The President had earlier announced the sack of nine ministers from his cabinet during the weekly FEC meeting. The nine Ministers sacked were Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Olugbenga Ashiru; Education, Ruqqayatu Rufai; National Planning, Shamsudeen Usman; Land and Urban Development, Ama Pepple; Environment, Hadiza Mailafia; Science and Technology, Ita Ewa; Minister of State Defence, Olusola Obada; Minister of State, Power, Zainab Kuchi; and Minister of State, Agriculture, Tijjani Bukar. Mr. Jonathan was quoted to have told the ministers that he was very pleased with their services. PREMIUM TIMES learnt that the sacked ministers were caught off guard because throughout the duration of the meeting, the president did not show any sign of his plan to do away with some of them. A presidency source, who asked not to be named because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, said the President actually announced the sack after the meeting. “Just as the president was about to leave, then he turned round and said ‘some of you Ministers will no longer be with us, it is nothing special but its just the ways of democracy,”" our source said. He then went ahead to read out the names of the removed ministers and immediately left the council chambers. Mr. Maku had while briefing State House correspondents said a fresh list of ministerial nominees would be sent to the National Assembly for approval to fill the vacancies left by the nine Ministers. http://premiumtimesng.com/news/144533-cabinet-reshuffle-jonathan-appionts-wike-interim-education-minister-maku-oversee-defence.html

eldoradoxx: It is only a person who does not understand politics like you that would advise the president to sack Nyesom Wike. Every president needs the like of Nyesom Wike who is not ashamed to fight dirty in the street to survive. Imagin how things would have been if Nyesom Wike was from Kano or Jigawa or Niger, currently, you know GEJ wouldn't loose any sleep because he knows he has a tough foot soldier who could battle his Governor to standstil. Nyesom Wike remains Amechi's biggest fear, he knows how brutal and deadly he is. Infact Nyesom and majority of Rivers House of Assembly Members fear Nyesome Wike more than they fear GEJ. The reason is simple, Nyesome made Amechi. He single handedly sponsored his election case up to supreme court in 2007 when Amechi ran to Ghana due to the heat in the state. Amechi stepped foot into Nigeria when SC declared him Governor. In 2011, Nyesom as Chief of Staff to the Governor Amechi unleashed his boys who returned Amechi and delivered victory to GEJ. Nyesom has grass root support and entrenched machinery more than Amechi in Rivers. The politics is why make Ama Pepple a full minister and make a foot soldier a min for state. With this cabinet shake, Nyesom Wike would definitely become a full minister. Perhaps not of Education. What you will see in the new cabinet are people like Nyesom Wike who can fight their Governors for GEJ esp in the 7 States that there Governors broke away.the summary of all your long story is that wike is fighting ameachi because he wants to suceed ameachi as governor and ameachi refuses, netsom wike no matter how he fights ameachi. A bigger fight awaits him and that is the rivers people's fight. The rivers people have declared that no ikwerre man will suceed ameachi, even the wife of wike's new boss. GEJ has said the next governor must be a true riverine man and not the highland ikwerres. So i'll love to see how this allaince will end. Maybe to an extent you're right. Jonathan needs a man like wike around to spite and poke ameachi, but by 2015 when ameachi leaves office, we will see if mr and mrs jonathan will help him become governor. |
By the way, a president's cabinet is suppose to be made up of people he is comfortable with and can trust, people he knows and can relate to so as to be more effective for the nation, the reality in nigeria of ministers being picked for ethnicity and nomination by governors is so odd...shows how segmented and tribalist this country is and might always be. *goes back to listening enya's carribean blue* |
jumobi1: Aren't Woke and Ajumogobia from Rivers? They both can't be senior ministerslike i said, wike should be trashed. He is a disgrace to rivers state. Odein ajumogobia is the best foreign minister in recent nigerian memory. Just the way he dresses and speaks. You won't know he is the nigerian F.M! |
Professor Ruqqayatu Ahmed Rufai who was relieved of her appointment as Education Minister along with eight other Ministers by President Goodluck Jonathan has indicated her intention to return to Bayero University, Kano where she was formerly a lecturer. While handing over to the Minister of State for Education, Barrister Nyesom Wike who is presently the acting Minister of Education, the former Minister expressed gratitude to President Jonathan for allowing her to serve in his cabinet also promised to always support the President.Professor Rufai who spent three years in the office introduced Four Year Strategic Plan for the development of education sector. She also masterminded the introduction of Integrated Quranic Education for the Almajiri as well as construction of model Integrated Quranic schools for the Almajiri. The federal government also established 12 federal universities in 12 states that were hitherto without federal universities. Her words: ” I want to use this medium to thank Allah for giving me the opportunity to serve in the Federal Ministry of Education for a period of well over three years, let me also thank Mr. President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who I must say I enjoyed working with, he has a listening eye, he loves education, he has been supportive. “There was no time I can say that I was with the president that I regretted working with him, I will forever pray for him and his chamber and all the team for the growth and development of this nation. But most importantly, let me also thank the minister of state for education for the time we spent together that has been in my character to always carry everybody along because I know one day this day is coming and if it doesn’t come we may die. “So we are favoured that we are even seeing today and I have to thank my Honourable Minister for the working relationship these two years that we have been together, of course there may be time the pressure of the office may be really much, there are times that we may not be happy with each other but over all we enjoyed working with each other. “I am going to take over my office in Bayero University Kano, its very important for you to know that I have been a commissioner for three years before coming here, I am just on secondment from my university and I have been here through God’s grace and it is my Governor, Sule Lamido who nominated me to be here, so I thank him for that opportunity, but now that I have this scenario am going back to report in office as a professor of curriculum Studies in Bayero University. “Let me hand over but I know that taking over will make you to do more, here in the ministry, we need to update our data to 2012 or at least 2011 so this is the process in the Ministry, it is a two year plan, so this will be your time to continue to do it.We are also in the process of finishing the mid term report for this year in terms of having about three year mandate, so by the time that one is done by the end of next year, you can see the end of your plan and this is a very good initiative that we all started together with you.” Wike after much emotion said: “Since I met you, we have been working very closely, when you work with somebody that you are very close to and the person is no longer their, you must feel bad“We want to thank you for the leadership and support that you have shown to this ministry and the motherly support that you have shown to everyone and I can assure you that some of us will keep the relationship because we do not know, where we will meet. “This came to me as a shock, although I knew that we cannot be here forever but I always assumed that one of us will simply go to another ministry but not to end up the way it did but God known’s best. “So I urge you directors and everyone to continue to work like you did when she was here to move the education family ahead because if we do not, it will also affect that where she is going to.”

Olugbenga ashiru is an amatuer foreign minister,Bring back odein ajumogobia as foreign minister. Leave ama pepple in her place. Trash neysom wike. |

igbeke: Either way, Obama is winning.exactly. Russia will never think to attacking the u.s or it's alies over syria. If russia attacks the u.s, the whole of nato will turn on russia. Meanwhile russia has no allies, it's only friend, china will never go to war at this stage of their growth. They will do nothing to slow down their rise to the top. |
Terrorism is not something to be politisized. I just pray whatever the case is. The government and the military prevail against this pigs so peace can be restored to this nation and our fellow countrymen in the north can have their lives back. |
One day i was stuck in traffic so just decided to bring down my glasses to save fuel. What did i hear from the loudspeaker of a road side CD vendor......"and then jesus and i started flying to hell. When we reach there we saw pope john paul and micheal jackson. Inside fire. Their flesh was roasting and they were crying. Jesus was also crying. Telling them. I warned you".....at this point my disgust knew no bounds. Just raise back my glass and let the fuel go. Hunger can make folks do extraordinary things. |
kingbang: So how does bombing Syria safeguard America and it's citizens? I think Obama is going to bomb Syria just to sooth his ego over his "red line" comment. America has everything to lose by ousting Assad because they will ultimately hand Syria over to Al Queda elements and extremists which in turn is a danger to global peace. Most Congressmen are against the attack and Syria and i am waiting to see how the confused Obama gets them on his side. This is how they Ousted Mubarak only to hand Egypt over to the Muslim brotherhood, now see the mess Egypt is in. FACT is, Obomber lacks the constitutional right to invade Syria without the congress approval and that approval won't come. SIMPLE!thousands of egypthians rioted in the streets demanding mubarak should go and you're blaming that on obama? You expect the united states of america ro support a dictator over the wishes of thousands protesting? I'll let that sink in. Then syria, it is in the interest of america to relive assad of his chemical weapons so it does not pose a threat to isreal, syria is a rough nation. Supported by russia. It is in the interest of the united states to depose him. Most republican congress men know this but will vote against just to embarrass obama, prominent conservatives like bill kristol has made this know. As for the democrats. They have always been wimps and won't vote for war. Obama has the constitutional right to strike syria without congressional approval. Ronald regan invaded greneda without congressional approval, JFK ordered the bay of pigs without conhressional approval. Bill clinton entered kosovo, george h.w bush entered kuwait.etc... Were they impeached. Even prominent constitutional specialist blasted obama for seeking congressional approval because he has weakned the executive and handed over to congress powers, his predessesors have garthered over the last 30 years. |
Propagander 101. The nigerian people don't need to read a book to see if transformation to going on. They just need to look at their lives and standard of living. Which frankly has'nt changed. |
Correction mr president. With PDP there has never been democracy in nigeria for the 15 years of the 4th republic. The death of your party will be the start of a long and painfull rehabilitation of nigeria. |
This article is idiotic. Because barck obama was elected as anti war. That does'nt mean he becomes a hippie on the world stage. There is a difference between campaigning for office and being in office. Barck obama walked into the oval office on the 21st of january 2008 and saw that american faced over the million threats everyday. From terrorist organisation to rough nations. He had no make the tough choices to protect americans which is his number one duty. If he becomes a hippie and goes around the globe preaching world peace and distabilizing u.s defence mechanism and a massive terrorist attack goes off in one city. Guess who these same people blasting him will blame? |
payless: Obama is a liar, fraud, and a conman. I have never seen a failed American prseident since I have been residing there. He is being backed only for being black. He has achieved nothing. Obama lies from every sides of his mouth. A failed American president indeed! Onama will be talked about in 20-30 years time as failure and missed opportunity.you are dreaming...barck obama is going to be remembered as the ronald regan of the democratic party. He is repositioning america on every issue to the left. Economy. Healthcare. Same sex marraige, climate change. Immigration, etc..the right knows this an it is boiling their bloods. On election night 2012 when obama was reelected. Popular fox news ancour bill o'riley said "this is not your traditional america anymore". He was right. Obama is moving the center right nation to center left. And the crowning glory of his presidency will be helping hillary clinton suceed him. |
Doff_Man: Pesin look im pikin finish come name am "Government"? Nor tell me say pipo dey answer "Commissioner" too?! ![]() ..one of the senators representing delta is named. James MANAGER. Another one from bayelsa is HIENEKEN lopobiri. I know another called "america". |
Just thinking how many lives would have been saved with the nigerian people's money that it's government gave to this man. How many kids would'nt have gone to bed hungry. How many people would'nt have died in road accident due to bad road.etc....nigeria is like a joke. A disappiontment. The world knows it! Ann pickard. The former boss of shell described nigeria to the u.s state department via emails a "the most inhuman country she has ever worked in through out her years in oil, greedy to the point of being complacent in the suffering of their fellow countrymen". Sad. Sad nation! |
Why is everybody dumping on obama? If this promise is truely fast tracked and syrian chemical weapons are destroyed, obama can claim victory and report to the american people that syrian chemical weapons are no longer a threat to their allies and opposition. Unlike bush military forces was'nt the key but the detterent. If obama had'nt scared the russians and syrians, do you think they will agree to such a drastic measure....and if putin think he can use this as a delay tactic. Obama will see through it and go ahead with strikes, and russia will do nothing. |
It appears president obama's threat of military action against syria is of great worry to moscow and damascus, as today russian foreign minister annouced that the russian government has asked the syrian government to hand over it's stock pile of chemical weapons to the international community after which it will be destroyed. Moments after the russian foreign minister made his annoucement, the syrian foreign minister annouced that the syrian government accepts russia's proposal. This is an unprecedented move that has many consequences. Paramount of which will be if the u.s will still strike syria... http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-24022866 http://m.aljazeera.com/se/201399144556640217 |
Wow! Is it that painfull? No wonder my uncle's wife broke his arm when she was in labour and insulted hell out of him for putting her in that condition....it was a very tense but funny moments. I shutter everytime i remember that in the future, my own is coming. |
switdil:i think he is wearing underwear. The young generation of men wearing kilt have forgone the tradition. Only traditionalist and elderly people the prince ages still abide by it. |
Gerald ford said he will serve out richard nixon's term and not seek a second term but he later changed his mind and contested against jimmy carter, so no biggy here, it's a tipical politicians lie. The significant thing here is after changing his mind, gerald ford lost to jimmy carter....i am not insinuating anything o!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Prince charles, the duke's son is a lot more carefull. Known to follow the rule of wearing nothing under his kilt but he sits extra carefull to protect his privates.
|
It is the tradition of scotland that whenever a man wears the kilt, he should'nt wear any underwear or pants but lately people have foregone that rule and protected their privates. But not one man, he is prince phillip, duke of edinburgh and husband to queen elizabeth ii. He stuck to tradition and wore nothing under his kilt and things went wrong. He accidentally opened his legs flashing his privates to the camera's. The pic has been blured to protect the duke's privacy.
|
Most people don't know this but it is scottish tradition not to wear any underwear or pants under a kilt. I hope this dude is following this rule, therefore he should mind how he sits. |
Sincere 9gerian: Yes, the removal of the national party chairman should be at the pleasure of the president. The president is the leader of the party. Of course when the president gives the green light, the party leaders and delegates will act accordingly.so that is the PDP's definition of democracy? Barack obama gives the green light fro debbie wiesserman shults to be removed as chairman of the DNC. Congratulations. |
Nigeria has no future as a single entity. |
Nightshift: During my good old Nigeria years, they were John Momoh, Sienna Allwell-Brown and late Tokunbo Ajayi.sienne allwell brown is now a tycoon o! She is the general manager for public relations in nigerian LNG. She is also a board member. |
Sincere 9gerian: I know Bamanga Tukur may not remain PDP chairman till 2015. But his removal MUST be at the pleasure of the president, not at the insistence of some LOSERS.such a crookish way of thinking. The removal of the party chairman won't be at the pleasure of the delegates and PDP members from around the country but at the pleasure of one man, so all those PDP leaders election was just for show? You are not in your office by the party delegates vote but by his excellency's pleasure. PDP's time is up. |
Shine It: He gives "more service and aid than the UN"?padon the slight mix up in my post. Actually. The catholic church is the largest humanitarian group in the world. Their services to the poor, orphanages, street kids, etc is second to non. They give more aid and care to the world than even the UN with their billions of dollars budget. |
Repulsive small man...if i were the only person on earth or nigeria, you won't sell a single CD. Plonker! |
