MrGerald: Yea I know it's not contraband, but restrictions caused the scarcity and high cost of the product . No the maths is not adding up. Before now, to process Form M in Cbn was roughly 500 to a dollar while black market was at 700, that means to import Dairy product you have to go to the black market at 700 where as it would have been cheaper through the banks if not for the ban. But now that the exchange rate in the bank and black market are same, how can it help to reduce the price if Cbn is processing form M for dairy import? Infact it will even be more expensive when you factor in the bureaucracy involved in obtaining form M. |

Nbote: That's exactly what this means. Before now only a few companies had access to forex at govt rates to import. Now anyone importing milk and dairy products won't have to go and source forex from the black market
Before now only few companies got forex at the official rates and as such it discouraged other companies from getting involved because they wouldn't be able to compete in the market with the ones enjoying govt incentive. But now that the restrictions have been removed, just about anyone can get forex at the same rates to import. With many players in the market, prices will becomes competitive as the best price wins. The few companies importing are the ones enjoying the monopoly of the market . it was a blanket cover, no company was enjoying any incentive for importation of dairy product. if you have evidence of a company that was exempted please show me. |
Business › Re: CBN Lifts FX Restrictions On Milk, Dairy Products Import To Crash Prices by Taich(m): 6:45pm On Mar 20, 2024 |
MrGerald: Few importers had access to fx and would fix the price they like, the products were seen as cb by customs with lot of restrictions making it difficult and expensive to get into the country. But now many importers are allowed, competition would crash the price No it wasn't a contraband, just that the banks/CBN will not approve your form M, so importers have to source fx from black market, this was before the floating of the Naira. |
Business › Re: CBN Lifts FX Restrictions On Milk, Dairy Products Import To Crash Prices by Taich(m): 2:43pm On Mar 20, 2024 |
Can someone explain to me how this will lead to the crash in price of diary products? Lifting ban by CBN means that diary importers can approach the bank for FX, banks will sale FX to importer at bank/black market rate. If importers have been importing since 2020 using parallel market when it would have been cheaper using banks why will price crash now the the bank and parallel rates are same? I will love to be schooled. Thanks in advance. |

TINTINABULATION: There is nothing so special here until we are privy to the Memorandum of Understanding between Abia State Government & Cranburg Construction. That is the document that will list all the roads to be constructed with the money. There is no law forbidding a private organization, such as Cranburg to approach its bankers for facility to execute a contract. If Access Bank finds her customer, Cranburg Construction credit worthy, then public opinion holds no sway . The problem is that Apc and her apologist are working too hard to paint everyone like itself. |
