Odunayaw: IMO Nigeria (especially the army) needs mobile radars in the north east US used something like this to track terrorists planting IED . You can see it in use in heroes of hell's highway |

giles14: @tdayof @Henry thanks for the clarification. concerning the issue of stealth if the Bangladesh and Burma navy can do it I believe the Nigeria navy can. its time our universities wake up Their ships are stealthy just like nns centenary and unity but I don't think the stealth technology employed is indigenous. Most of them are from China and Russia . Bro Nigeria is far away in some technological aspect. As in really far. I'll be happy to see a huge growth in our R& first. |

FRSC using firearms will be more dangerous than any other military/paramilitary in Nigeria. I mean these guys overdo already. They won't hesitate to gun down a motorist now. Just give gatemen too firearm then. |

giles14: stealth ?
dat will b expensive let's just get more of d 40m boats for now.
then maybe we incorporate stealth in ships of 80m above. Not as expensive as you'll think. It's a technology capability which limited people have hence releasing /selling such capability will be expensive. |

Henry240: The Nigerian navy can pay, that's no issue. For a limited technology? Nigeria will never get an effective stealth with money. My advice remains R& D . China will only give limited stealth capability. Just like that present on NNS UNITY and Centenary at most and they're are basically on design and less effective RAM. |

Henry240: If as i was informed, the navy goes ahead and builds the new ship, 50 meters boat. It would mean a massive leap in naval shipbuilding capability in Nigeria.
We would demonstrate that the navy has no requirement to procure from abroad ships of this class other than to see the latest advancements in the vessels in this class.
In terms of armament, BAE systems new 40 mm naval gun presents an exciting new prospect in naval gunnery. The 40mm from BAE can also be used as a CIWS. The NNS Karaduwa and Andoni both come in armed with a 30 mm as their main gun. It would be dis-service to arm the new ship with a 30mm yet again.
In terms of mission deployment and commonality across the fleet, our neigbours and the Nigerian navy could deploy a common type of patrol vessel, each easily integrated with the Regional Maritime Capability Awareness system. They could also benefit from a joint shipbuilding.
After building the new ship, we can go ahead and build proper Corvettes, 92 meters stealth ships. There's nothing difficult in building these, we have a ship design bureau, we get our machinery, hire technical assistance from the Chinese or Dutch, we get to work and build.
When Indonesia launched the domestically built Sigma light Frigate, the counrty leaped a at-least 20 years ahead of other naval Shipbuilders in South-East Asia.
The NNS Karaduwa is my favourite patrol craft in it's class in Africa, but it seems i'm about to jump ship, literally......... and embrace a new favourite vessel. Stealth if NESL is willing to pay. |

LOL raptor is not for sale.F-35 is for sale but many country complain and don't wannna buy.yet they don't have technology to develop a stealth plane independently.I don't think F-22 even B-2 can pose serious threat to China. US already deploy many units in Japan and S.Korea. US knows a stealth plane is not undefeatable some gen 4++ plane with latest upgrade may have cost competitive advantages. Yea I know . Just curious why they had to fly with afterburners. I counted 4. |

chinese8107: latest modified Type 59. I don't think RPG-7 or some obsolete projectile can penetrate frontal armour.actually it's a Type-96 turrent on a Type 59 chassis.
that 1 pic you post the frontal armor just damaged I think .they abandon the tank for other reasons. What'sup with your Flankers flying around today with afterburners? Is Japan or NK taunting you Probably a raptor came close before being detected. |

Troops kill 30 insurgents in failed ambush in Borno
The troops of the Nigerian Army have killed 30 members of the Boko Haram Sect in a failed ambush in Borno State.
An Abuja based Public Relations outfit to the military and security agencies, the PR Nigeria, reported that the insurgents were killed when they attempted to attack a convoy of local government officials and Travellers along Bama Road after Nguri-Soye.
It was stated that the troops of the 121 Special Task Force Battalion, were escorting the council officials to Pulka when they ran into the ambush on Saturday.
The Chairman Caretaker Committee of Gwoza Local Government Council, Mr. Saeed Sambo, who was said to be in the convoy was quoted as having said that “the terrorists detonated Improvised Explosive Device and followed with continuous gun shots which was immediately repelled by the gallant troops.
The special forces were said to have repelled the attack killing the 30 insurgents with no casualty on the side of the military and the convoy.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman was also said to have commended the troops led by Patrol Commanders of the 121BN, Captain S. Suleiman and Lt. N. Ayuba.”
It was stated that some soldiers who received gunshot wounds during the encounter were being treated at the Maimalari Barracks Hospital, Maiduguri.
The report also quoted an anonymous aid worker as having confirmed that 30 of the insurgents were killed in the attack.
Our correspondent could not get the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, to comment on the story as the calls to his mobile telephone line did not connect. |
