dermmy: If you can't afford America's F-15s why not go for Russian Sukhois Su-27, Su-29 or the Miggs. The Chinese J-10 and J-20. Na stones boko haram go dey use bring down these tucanos o dem no even need missiles to bring them down. Man, we can afford them. The Chinese J-20 is extremely not for sale but the J-10 can be considered however it has a short combat radius for a country that has no other great fighters like Nigeria. The Chinese J10 are mostly being accompanied by their flankers series. The super Tucano is a coin aircraft and that's why NIGERIA placed orders for the JF17 which will serve as a multirole aircraft for the Nigerian Airforce. I detest this Super Tucano deal tho. Why not spend the money on few flankers.

Just30: sorry to burst your bubbles Our electricity issues way before you stopped providing gas. Since then, we've spent 24B dollars to get it back on track Nigerian is your main supply of power gas and you're owing nothing less than $180m. You said before we stopped providing gas? Hope you know we're still providing power gas to Ghana? It's not an issue of competition but fact. However, this doesn't stop us from being able to power our own country if not because of lack of foresight and corruption among political office holders. |

unbitchable: I hope the Cameroonian soldiers will not be fighting on Nigerian soil, we know what Buhari said when Niger and Chadian Armies were doing so under Gej. They will be operating together on the Nigerian soil. They've been on our soil since as part of the MNJTF. we also have troops there too (around the lake Chad region etc) |

Forget the Su25, supernova would happen first before we get them. We must not only retool the NAF for COIN. As much as I hate, the conventional shortcomings of NAF is too glaring hence I itch for the JFs Yes, if we're not going to get a COIN aircraft, helicopters are okay then a good multirole fighter can do the main bombing from thousands of fts. Any idea how much we're getting a single JF17? |

kabe1: Was the detail of the deal not provided at the time? Did you not see it's weapons package, training and cost of aircraft?
"Why is there a sudden change in opinion by most Nigerians?".............. It is primarily because of the pre-conditions set by the US government.
Can you name the Nigerians who have backed out for any other reason apart from the political conditions attached to it?
My friend, run along to your poorly, fantasy filled blog. The conversation made sense until you added the last sentence. Everyone has right to his or her opinion and you can't just shut him down. Now about the weapons package : that doesn't justify the price. You should have noticed something fishy when $583m turned $484m later on. Plus the post said the reason for the high price is due to alot of middle men shit that I don't care about. Now, we are waiting for 2 years to get a Tucano when you can start receiving JF17s next year if we put our orders through china. It's obviously not a good deal. I have always supported that deal before because I know it's better we spend $5b on 5 Tucanos that hearing missing $5b. However, the conditions attached to it is a huge turn off. |

My opinion:
NAF should get at least a squadron of multirole fighter jets.
We've got enough attack helicopters already + 10 more to be delivered. Then we can look at the SU25 or probably that L-15 OR the JL-9.
Lionel4power, Bidexii jakesporeshenko how much are we getting a single jf17? |

newafricaken254: so you want say they don't eavesdrop on Nigeria communications !? Not about eavesdropping. They have been doing that since so why worry now? I'm more concerned about the high price so I don't care if the deal is being cancelled due to the size. Anything to make the deal crash is welcome. |

Reminds me of the other day I strolled outside the sanity of the technical/African militaries threads; ended up in the Politics section. Saw a politics/development discussion, was beginning to offer my opinion then boom! All hell was unleashed on me by ignorant, jumpy and misjudging posters who only see the world through the lenses of religion, ethnicity and political affiliation. I quickly ran back to this oasis of logic and reason. After that I become cautious about making political comments on this forum
(You can see the frustration tdayof, brunclezuma, slimthugchime and others go through when trying to explain relevant geopolitical and military concepts/events to the average nairalander.) Those guys will come really hard on you. I keep saying it that the stat which says Nigeria adult literacy rate is 51% is wrong except if 95% of guys on Nairaland are still in primary school. In the politics sections US Approves The Sales Of A-29 Tucano to Nigeria. Comments Mumu country, something wey dem use fight ww1 Nigeria is still buying ww1 jets when people are flying F22, F35. They want to use it and bomb innocent people. Trump must cancel this [The person attaches a link ] my fellow Nairalanders sign this petition to stop the US from selling jets to Nigeria. Shey Nigeria get airforce? |

nemesis4u: Important thing is what r Ur goals and not the time frame.
DRDO has been testing railguns of various sorts in the labs since 90s , even then they r very very far from making a functional prototype forget about something remotely close to a production model.
It's good that countries r taking up research and development in this field , becz chances r that nobody will sell u the tech. And which country is that ? I was kidding To me, the government we have is the type that feels it's not necessary if the developed countries do not innovate such and also feel it's a waste of time trying to do something similar on our own since there's a country with such capability already. In my opinion, politics and development do not go well together. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by tdayof(m): 10:46pm On Feb 03, 2018 |
nemesis4u: Coil gun and rail gun utilises the same operating principle but r kind of different.
Imagine 10 people standing next to each other on the side of a stream. The 1st person on one end shoves the boat and let's go of it, next instant the 2nd person shoves the boat and adds to the initial velocity / momentum of the boat, and this happens sequentially. As a result the boat gains in speed incrementally at each persons shove , when the boat recieves the last shove at the 10th man the boat ends up with the highest velocity. This is COIL GUN for u. A projectile is sequentially passed through on/off electromagnetic coils to generate high velocity.
Now imagine a boat across a stream and 2 man at either ends pulling it at high speed, if they can generate high momentum wile running they will impart the same velocity to the boat. This is RAIL GUN for u. A projectile is placed between 2 guide rails connected to 2 ends of a power source, placement of the projectile completes the circuit and this generates a rotating magnetic field on the rails and the interaction of the magnetic field and flowing electrons generates a force field radiating outwards along the rail which carries the projectile under its influence.
In a rail gun very high temperature , very large magnetic fields and high plasma pressure is encountered leading to very high wear and tear (alloying also is a common phenomenon). I think significant research needs to be done to come up with exotic materials which can give significant barrel life. It will take time.
I am not aware of the materials being used since these r not actually publishized nor it is my field.
I believe this is a PR attempt by the Chinese. What they r doing is scaling up the dimensions of the laboratory test article , and will use the test results to support their research into rail guns. ..but that gun has been in development since tho, I knew about it since 2015/16. Before the trials of ddg -1000. There are some information about it since then on the Chinese internet. Anyway, I'm not fascinated by guns. I heard a country located in West Africa is developing a plasma powered gun. |
