lionel4power: SF =/= SOF.
. SOF is more like a special force unit within a special force unit.
. for Example, a SF unit could be sent to abduct a HVT in a Taliban stronghold but a SOF would infiltrate, associate and gather intel about the HVT.
. NOTE THE '' SPECIAL OPERATIONS '' IN SPECIAL OPERATIONS FORCE. What is this? |

SOF does not exist. As the term SOF is the exact same thing as SF. The US uses SOF to distinguish between army SF and those under special operations command.
Apart from that, In an international scenario SF is SOF. they're just different terms. |

The new unit, 205 Combat Search and Rescue Group (CSARG), comes under the Special Operations Command.
Units operating under a military Special Operations Command will have their boots called special operations forces. These guys are obviously SF guys. |

NAF ESTABLISHES COMBAT SEARCH AND RESCUE UNIT IN PLATEAU STATE
As part of the renewed commitment to evolve robust security architecture capable of rapid employment in all spectra of warfare, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today hit the ground running for the establishment of a new specialised unit in Kerang, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The new unit, 205 Combat Search and Rescue Group (CSARG), comes under the Special Operations Command. It is intended to shorten NAF’s response time and improve search and rescue efforts of troops in crisis areas within the country. “The new unit is one of the nine specialised units under SOC set up to address the current security challenges facing our nation”, said the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar. He disclosed that 205 CSARG will incorporate hospital and schools for the benefit of NAF personnel, their dependents and civilian population within the area. Air Mshl Abubakar reiterated the commitment of the NAF to protect lives and property in the State in partnership with other security agencies. Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the ground breaking ceremony, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt Hon Simon Bako Lalong commended the NAF for its role in combating insurgency and terrorism in the country; adding that the occasion is one of the many remarkable strides by the Nigerian Air Force in repositioning itself into a professional and disciplined force. Gov Lalong described the event as “a landmark achievement by the NAF that will forever remain indelible in the hearts of Nigerians and most especially the good people of Plateau State”. |

Most successful entrepreneurs are investors and since the topic says what they have in common, I'll say they love tractions "Some failure in life is inevitable. Patchesagain: but Special Operations Forces are certainly not Special Forces. In an international context there is no semantic difference between those two phrases. SOF is used to distinguish between Special forces units or those under USSOCOM. You can't conclude just like that as it varies by nation. |

MikeCZA: There is SF and SOF.
The usage of SF units in the middle east doesn't necessarily define how they should be deployed.
Your SF are still learning they will vehicles like the Hornet in the future.
Ops are intelligence driven if armour is required then SF people will bring armoured vehicles or whatever they need to get the job done.
South Africa is one of the first countries to deploy the so called "MRAPS" by Americans. If these vehicles were good for the SF's airborne, raiding, reccon etc needs don't you think SASFB would have picked 'MRAPS' for the roles the Hornet is utilised for?
Also remember your forces are fighting inside Nigeria within your boarders. SOF, SF. Special Operations Forces (SOF) is a generic term that you can use to refer to any and all special operations units. Special Forces is the title of a very specific unit, and is not a generic term for other units. NNSBS is a special operation unit and can be categorized as as SOF. It still operates under the name umbrella called Special Forces. It's a Nigerian special force team. |

nemesis2u: As for regular friendly troops getting into a position to open fire on the 'terrorist' SF men , then i would say that the SF men r not worth their salt , if they allow themselves to be caught up in such a situation.
SF men r trained to remain incognito from everybody including their own force plus there r ways to handle unavoidable blue on blue without breaking the subterfuge.
i will stop here , i dont think it would be wise to share more........ . My concern was regular troops bit you've cleared it out. Thanks. |

To me, the British haven't had a good record of conducting hostage operations in Africa. Their last in Nigeria led to the death of the two hostages involved.
