You can't live in a more advanced nation than where I've been living for the past decade, so don't bother wasting your energy. Even as advanced as the U.S, they still suffer from uneven distribution of wealth, 1 in 5 American kids still suffer from hunger and many households find themselves homeless. The most educated societies are not necessarily the most peaceful. Ekiti people are more educated than 70% of the Southeastern or Southwestern states yet they suffer the same poverty rate or even worse. Alabama boast of the best medical facility in the U.S, they also have the best military program yet the sate is regarded as one of the most backward in the U.S. Finally an enlightened and educated society like that of the U.S voted in an actor Swarchenegger and an entertainer Donald Trump to lead a state and country respectively, if this is not the best example of educative people choosing to satisfy an immediate need instead of making logical sound decisions then I don't know what is.....lol
Interesting comment.

Schwarzenegger was voted in because Californians at the time were fed up with all their regular politicians. Same for Trump.

(Funnily enough, Trump was not the first entertainer to win the presidency...see Ronald Reagan...who was an actor for many years. Sure...he was Governor of California before becoming President, but still...)

Yeah. The only permanent solution to the issue of registering 100 parties, is a constitutional amendment.

The constitutional amendment should specify that parties who fail to win, at least, one seat in the House of Representatives or one Governorship seat, should be de-registered.

Also, in order to cut out frivolous associations from applying to become parties, the amendment should further require INEC to set a registration fee for intending parties. Then, INEC could set, say, a registration fee of N500 million.

I’m telling you, these measures would ensure that the number of parties wouldn’t be more than 10 or 20.
It could work...

But as I said...a lot of people will fight any attempt to regulate the number of parties by law. National Assembly will be targeted with restraining orders from various parties not to even discuss the matter.

Honestly, when we were making that 1999 constitution, someone forgot to put in an amendment that would have limited the number of parties. That made it easy for clever lawyers like late Gani to exploit that loophole at the Supreme Court and force INEC to register everyone.

The highest number of election abnormalities happened in Rivers. Probably, after the election, people like Wike and Secondus will be indicted.
Even then, the laws must be followed. Elections must be properly conducted in places where there were issues.

The ADC party is doing the same thing to APC that PCP is doing to PDP. They got over 4k votes in Oyo state

INEC must never register this many parties for presidential elections, such a bloody waste of time
The problem is, the Supreme Court requires them to register anyone who wants to set up a party, thanks to a suit instituted by Gani Fawehimnni several years ago, after INEC refused to register his party the NCP.

And the problem also is that there are many people who don't feel at home in either the PDP or APC....

Getting the National Assembly to pass a bill on the matter is going to be hectic. I forsee lawsuits on the constitutionality of the NA regulating the number of parties by law.

LOL. Seems you don't know how power drunk northerners are. If APC doesn't give them a northern candidate, they'd find another party and choose someone popular to act as the flag bearer. The north can not be cajoled to vote for anybody that doesn't share similar religious faith and tribe with them. Mark this down.
Well, considering the same Northerners backed a Obasanjo, and also (minority, but still substantial in 2011) backed a GEJ (yes, GEJ had his northerner backers)...plus the fact that the 'unofficial arrangement' must be adhered to....I still think that the South is in pole for 2023.

Of course there are Northerners like Tambuwal and Kwankwaso too....

But the SE and SW are in the front seat for 2023 . See the funny way Umahi of Ebonyi is behaving for example (one foot in both pies)….and see how people like Kalu of Abia and Okorocha are also positioning themselves.

PDP and APC are the only two parties capable of winning presidential elections at the moment. In case you don't know, power would be very hard to slip off APC now. These northerners would give us another northern candidate come 2023 and everybody would vote him. We just signed a long-term contract with the north, thanks to foolish Yorubas.
There is a reason why Atiku ran now...it was his last chance.

2023 is going to be a battle royale between the SW and SE....with the North playing kingmaker.

I doubt any Northerner is coming back in 2023. The unofficial rotation system we have must be sustained.

This is to the Yorubas that supported this plague; I hope you continue supporting them come 2023 and beyond. This is the tip of the iceberg. This is more than just developmental interest, this is about religion and tribe. The way I see it, you guys don't fit in. When that happens, don't cry foul because we'll be watching.

Enjoy your shitty 4+4 change.
P.S. I'm Yoruba too.
I agree nothing would change....but Atiku too won't have changed anything.

Our economy is fuelled by oil. Either oil goes above $139...our breakeven price....or our economy will remain sick.

Then Atiku too was talking about making fuel N90 per liter. In other words...he spends more of our savings on fuel subsidy...which worsens our economic crisis.

Atiku also has no plans for power supply, and said zilch about herdsmen crisis.

Plus...why are we voting for PDP or APC. There were other, far more competent candidates...but you people laugh at them, and go for same old.

And why vote for the same ATIKU who helped give us Mr 4+4?

Then there are the tales of contractors who use cheap and substandard stuff to get more money....at the expense of quality.

Dangote refinery will ease stress on our foreign exchange, no doubt on that.

PIB and deregulation also needed too.
I don't see either PDP or APC deregulating the downstream sector.

That means fuel will retail for as high as N250-400 per liter. Does not win votes.(but long term provides jobs, saves money, and means more things like refineries. But Nigerians cannot chop long term goals)

Forgetting that in 2023...they have to seek the consent of these illiterates to get voted.

The thing is, if all the accredited voters in the SS and SE had shown face....and voted....it is possible Atiku would have won.

And if some people had not spent most of GEJs rule insulting Northerners....the man would have been finishing term 2 by now.

ghettodreamz:
APC scored 90,726 in Ebonyi?

Like seriously?

I am beginning to doubt the authenticity and credibility of some of these results, particularly, those emanating from the SS and SE region respectively.

Despite the low turnout, APC scored 90,726, out of the total number of accredited voters of 391,747, excluding the humongous thousands of votes that would be rejected on the basis of over-voting, non-functionality of the smart card readers.

It is also worthy of note, to say that I am not for PDP, just stating and airing my opinion from personal observations of the ongoing collation and results announcement process. undecided

Is this a case of colluding with the INEC return officers, with a view to falsifying the results; thereby, preventing the true will of the electorates from reflecting?

Or, just a natural occurrence?

So many of these results beg for questions, really.
The key word is 2023 …..when the SE would be in pole position.
