kullozone:Well, I believe that Bisola can take care of herself with some simple changes. (I advise people everyday about that in my line of work). But comparing Bisola to a professional athlete? To someone who exercises for a living? And to someone who has access to coaches, physios, nutritionists, gyms, etc that help her keep fit. Call me again when Bisola is confirmed to be a professional athlete. Or when Bisola has time off from running after her two children, keeping a job, and doing a lot if housework to actually exercise the way Serena does, and still have time for her husband and children. And you that is talking, can you run faster than Usain Bolt, as long as Bekele, or box for 12 rounds like Tyson..? Why do you expect professional athlete level of perfection from a struggling married woman of two? When you don't expect it from yourself? |
naijaguy123456:APC and PDP are both alike. Stop attacking corruption in PDP while avoiding APC corruption |
CheapDataGuy:They do too |
Bamidey:Serena is a professional athlete .She has access to top line coaches, gyms, and probably trains for hours a day. And she has a nanny for her baby, and is married to a millionaire and is one herself Bisola is a mum with 2 children who keep her awake at night, plus she has to cook and clean for them and her husband, plus she has a full time job, and is probably tired at the end of the day. And stressed. And did I mention she is not a professional athlete ,and isn't rich? |
CheapDataGuy:Efcc investigates those type of cases too |
OpaPass:EFCC has been investigating cases like the above since its founding. It is the journalists that prefer to focus more on efcc political cases |
sheriffmusa:No. EFCC investigates all types of fraud cases. Political cases are just a small part of their caseload |
tsephanyah:Yeah and Atiku was in APC too |
The whole issue started in 2010 when tribal faultlines were opened with the Jonathan succession issue, then fanned into flames with the 2011 election crisis. Then there was the 2015 elections and the anger and bitterness over one side losing to the other. Since then, Nairaland has not been the same. The thing is, we cannot change Nairaland. It is a reflection of what is happening in Nigeria. Because people think that their fortune is made once their son gets into office, any sign showing opposition is a plot against their son. Used to be active on facebook. In the wake of the 2011 elections when Buhari lost, I made some neutral comments about the election, saying it was lost by the disunity of the opposition, and people from the North bashed me. Likewise, when I critized GEJ, people bash me as I am seen to be attacking the South. Sad. Finally, I think that most Nigerians have given up on making Nigeria or their backyard better. I can and have written long polemics on how Nigeria can be better and have gotten likes, but it does nothing in the long run. Far better to reach for tribalism |
Lorenzop:Hmm, you PDP people are funny. As an alternative to corrupt APC, you give us corrupt PDP led by a guy who was in APC before, and helped give us Bubu APC and PDP are the same. For a better Nigeria, vote both of them out. |
tsephanyah:Good Say no to APC too, party of Grasscutters and Gandollars |
larryking540:It is not a matter of having the lands You have to have large scale farms which can produce a lot of crops for export. Then you have to break into existing export markets. Going back to agriculture issa goal, but this is not the 1960s when the UK bought most of our agricultural products |
GentleMoney:One like for the Kahlil Gibraim quote |
larryking540:Problem is, you can only run a successful agricultural export driven economy if you have a large number of commercial large scale farms. In Nigeria, less than 10% of farmland is large scale commercial farms. Also, most state governors are not interested in aggressively developing their agriculture subsector. Kogi and Benue are two good examples. Kogi produces cashew, Benue oranges. Both of them have done nowt to develop it for export or manufacturing |
Hmmm Oil price is below 60 USD. We need oil to be at $140 before we can run a budget free of debts. Besides the loan is being taken for broadband expansion into the rural areas. Now, APC has failed us. But, anyone who expected us not to run a government without borrowing once oil prices started falling in 2014 is dreaming. The sad thing about this is that if PDP win in 2015, most of the people screaming about how Nigeria is borrowing would be praising the move, while some anti PDP agents would be shouting against it. Let's remove the tribalism. We are not a rich nation, we are too reliant on oil, and none of the parties has any idea about how to get us off oil except agriculture which is going to take years to regain our former top spot. So whoever wins in 2019,should tell Nigerians the truth, we are poor, cut subsides and deal with corruption, and focus on power and transport with the view to going industrial. |
flimzy24:What type of website do you run? So that the experts can help. |
Husband looks very innocent.... ![]() |
namio10:Elderly people like Atiku...71 years old? You better leave PDP and APC...and choose another candidate. |
Mizwisdom:Relax, the guy knows, but he does not want to concede defeat. US is even on its way to becoming a net exporter self of oil |
Mistasimon:Has the Corper been freed? |
Last comment for now I think Nigerians don't want to pay higher for fuel....and yes..a high fuel price does have knock on effects. But subsidizing fuel too has knock on effects...NNPC is importing fuel at a loss, marketers sell fuel at artificially lowprices, and people are not rushing to build new refineries because no one wants to sell fuel at low prices. And then there is the corruption. In 2010...GE wanted to build 3 new refineries. Signed an MOU. The refineries have not been built because under subsidy they won't have made a profit. I understand why people don't want subsidy gone. And Lord knows it would chop my money well well.But...it is time we either cut subsidy...or we keep it, while we take loans to fund other sectors of the economy till oil goes above $140. (In our dreams). |
flyca:So,why did you support GEJ when he raised fuel prices from N65 to N140 in 2012. (By the way, I supported that decision too) Looking beyond the tribalism, removing subsidy makes sense. It made sense in 2012....and the thing is, if we had allowed the N140 TO stand...there would have been no fuel queues till 2016...and we would have saved lots of cash even. I know most Nigerians cannot afford a rise in fuel prices. We had the same issue with GSM...but because GSM was not subsidised....a lot of income flowed in which paid for improvements, new infrastructure...etc...that evnetually allowed for prices to crash. If we had removed subsidy in 2012...by now we might have been paying less for fuel. And we would have had new jobs, etc. And new refineries. |
VULCAN:Well,as I have explained before...in 2013...Bubu said subsidy was 'nonexistient'. He was playing politics as usual (he does get some blame for not supporting GEJ's subsidy removal attempt too...and GEj not being allowed to remove subsidy is why we had problems...). Back then, fuel was selling at N97, it cost more than N110 to import the stuff...and many people were engaging in subsidy scams. Govt of GEJ removed subsides from diesel and kerosene to pour more money into the subsidy debt hole... And yet...we still had queues all year long, and fuel was being sold above the retail price. That was why Bubu called it a scam...even though he did contribute to it by opposing commonsense removal in 2012...that would have SOLVED all the problems (I opposed GEJ...but when he made sensible decisions, I clapped my hands. The opposition to the 2012 subsidy removalattempt was one time I really felt dissapointed in the oppositon._) |
Osakah24:At N87 per liter...it was costing us N132 to import fuel And the government from GEJ and then Buhari was running heavily into debt as a result. Many marketers outside the big cities were selling fuel at higher prices (I bought fuel in 2015 March at N130 on the outskirts of Abuja.). Some were engaging in smuggling to survive, and there was frequent scarcity. In 2016...Bubu temporarily ended subsidy by raising fuel prices to N145...the queues disappeared...until the landing cost exceeded N145...and the queueus returned....And we still had the pre-rise in price debts. |
gr8child:Zimbabawe is not like Nigeria for the simple reason that they wrecked their goose that laid the golden egg...ie commercial farming. As a result of the land redistribution programme,....they lost a vital source of foreign revenue, lost investors, lost lots of tax revenue, and lots of money. They have been paying theprice ever since. For Nigeria to be like Zim....our foreign reserve would have to be at ZERO level...plus we would have destroyed all our refineries, and oil production sites |
gr8child:That's what we have been saying since 1993...and as a result, the downstream sector gets starved of cash, and we cannot afford new refineries or improvement to existing refineries. (Have been following the subsidy argument since 1993...and God knows they were saying what you just said back then. And I beleived it until the scales fell off my eyes in 2012) The only way we can afford a subsidy is if oil goes above $150 per barrel. |
excel101:Look...let me make things clear here. I backed GEJ's subsidy removal plan in 2012 because it made sense to me Understand everything I say through that prisim. Thank you And I don't back APC or PDP....I think both parties are in it for themselves, not for Nigerians... |
VULCAN:Like I said, we can no longer afford fuel subsidy. GEJ saw it in 2012...which is why he raised prices from N65 to N140...at a time when it was costing us N99 to import one liter of fuel. Nigerians cried out, people like Buhari and Tinubu joined them...GEJ reduced it to N97...we got into a huge debt as a result. By the time Bubu came into power, and recieved some home truths...he icnreased prices from N87 to N145 when landing cost was N132 per liter. Now it costs N190 per liter. Forget the politics crap...and face facts. Either subsidy goes...or we keep on losing billions to subsidy scammers and NNPC corruption. And Lord knows I hate the idea of subsidy removal. But it is costing us too much. Maybe we should spend the savings we get from subsidy removal on public transport.... |
Highbhee:The US is producing oil.... Output was expected to rise 1.31 million barrels per day (bpd) to 10.68 million bpd in 2018, lower than last month's forecast of growth of 1.44 million bpd to 10.79 million, according to the U.S. Energy Information AdministrationSource : Reuters In fact the US is not as reliant on oil imports as it used to be. |
flyca:The reason why fuel subsdies have to go is simple. 1.We are not making enough cash to fund it. Oil is less than $60 per barrel. We need it at $140per barrel. Even when GEJ was in power, and oil was above $100...we stillcould not fund it...which is why he increased prices from N65 to N140 IN 2012...but Nigerians forced him to reduce iot to N97...then to N87...while the cost of fuel importation went up from N99 in 2012 to N132 in 2016. 2.Right now, fuel is at N145. When it was increased in 2016...landing cost was N132. Now it is N190 as at last week.Government pays NNPC the N45 difference. NNPC cannot make a profit...so cannot do things like fixing refineries, facilties, etc. Now...this has been going on for decades. 3.Stripping the poltics aside...the truth is, we cannot afford subsidy. It is not letting people make profits which can be reinvested in jobs, new refineries and other facilities, etc. It iskeeping investors away...and eventually when Dangote opens his new refinery...either prices go up..or Dangote exports abroad. 4.Oil subsidy has to go. GEJ was right in 2012..and God knows that back in 2012..I finally saw some sense about the subsidy thing after opposing its removal since the nineties. |
gr8child:Thing is, if we keep the price of fuel low...time will come when we will keep on owing the NNPC millions in unpaid subsidy claims as the cost of importing fuel goes up. And no one is going to come into Nigeria, and build a new refinery and sell fuel below the manufacturing cost per liter. Even Dangote is not going to sell fuel at N140 per liter to marketers...below the manufacturing cost, and with all his loans he took for the refienry. Plus, no one is going to invest in our downstream sector because no one wants to come in and make zero profit. And why keep subsidy...with all the scams going on. When we started GSM, Obasanjo allowed GSM companies to set prices anyhow. People were buying SIM cards for N10000 and above. People also wanted Government to control prices. Govt refused. Five years later...thanks to money plus investment flowing in...prices dropped. Phones became so cheap that even rural people were owning 2 lines. Why can't we do the same for fuel. Yes...price will go above 200 naira...but investment would flow in, and jobs would be created. And more people will build refineries. |
Rekyz:No, I won't blame Bubu for this one. The reasons why we don't have investment in new refineries is that subsidy means that marketers sell fuel below the production cost. Meaning if someone comes in to build a refinery he or she would be selling at a loss to marketers...or marketers would be selling at a loss. Yes, Dangote...but thing is, Dangote is not going to sell fuel to marketers below N150 per liter. Not with all the loans he has taken. |
