PythonDancer:Yes... But here is the thing about Christianity...if I was given a car, and I did not use the right grade of engine oil as specified in the owner's manual...the car will break down. It's the same thing with Christianity. Just as it is easy to own a car (OK....relatively easy)...it is VERY easy to become a Christian.... The hard bit is following the Owner's Manual the way the Manufacturer intended. |
Yes,by spending more on our asymmetric warfare capacities....that's the only way we can effectively beat Boko. |
asuustrike1:No they can't. Maybe 220 bn over 5 years...but not 1.1 trillion in my opinion. And the truth is , universities need FAR more than that. Eventually, fees have to go up to supplement funding. |
Tamart:OBJ markedly increased lecturer's salaries....back in 2001. And ASUU even then still went on strike back then...even around 2003. Strikes are not for salaries...them lecturers too want better facilities. |
flowalk:Because it is what the universites need to keep fees low...and most of that money is going for facilities. Failure to get that money...which is even LESS than what the lecturers negotiated....means higher fees. |
asuustrike1:Because, government cannot afford it. Oil is at $60....we need it at $140 for a balanced budget. And oil is dropping. (And because corruption). If GEJ could not afford the 3 trillion over 2 years promised in 2009...and at high oil prices even....then this govt can;t afford the same. Thing is, at the end of the day, unviersites need far more than that 1.1 trillion.(And no,I am not defending Bubu..). |
naunasabi:Most ASUU members children school in Nigeria...even in the public schools. As a university lecturer , your children even get relatively easy passage regarding admission, even if you are not from the catchment area. Some ASUU members kids also school in private schools....the minority school abroad. (And going abroad is not easy) |
PresidentAtiku:Well...in 2009....ASUU got a promise of 3 trillion naira from Yaradua. By 2012...the money had not been paid. ASUU went on strike twice...under your lord and savior GEJ and your lord and savior GEJ told ASUU some home truths, that the 3 trillion was not possible...and offered them I trillion over 5 years.(back when oil was above 100USD per barrel). Now the Lifeless one has told ASUU that even that was not possible...the thing was revised down again...and still govt cant pay. Unless you want govt to dash ASUU 3 trillion from our budget of 9 trillion for universities....just universities.... Look, the thing is ASUU and govt don;t want to increase fees...which is the only solution. |
PassingShot:ASUU might be selfish...but the truth is, ASUU is also fighting for the students. If ASUU does not get the funding they need....Vice Chancellors across Nigeria would have to....you guessed it....raise fees drastically. And that is not politically popular....nor is it popular among ASUU members too (whose kids too go to school). So, either government pays up...or fees go up. |
KINGwax007:They aren't 1.1 trillion is even far less than what was originally agreed on in 2009...which was 1.5 trillion per annum And that is the only sane alternative...because the other alternatives are allowing the status quo to stand, meaning producing poorly prepared graduates, or RAISING fees.... You cannot pay $200 for something worth $20000. |
afoobabs:The problem is not that the CJN is corrupt...the problem is that in Nigeria, we are a tribal society. People see things through the tribe. An attack on the CJN is an attack on tribal and political interests. It isn't an attack on corruption. The problem with Nigerians is, Nigerians like their corruption. We see corruption fight as a weapon to use against our enemies. We are all guilty of this. If a leader ACTUALLY fought corruption in Nigeria...prosecuted everyone without fear or favour..I guarantee that that leader would not only be overthrown, but would be murdered...and then in the years to come would be hailed as a 'hero, a saint'...while the chopping continues. |
Electricboy:A word of advice...stop hating people on the basis of their color or tribe. Hatred may make you feel powerful for a few minutes, but at the end of the day, it would wreck your life. And it won't benefit you at all. So, grow up, be mature...and stay healthy. |
See....developer Developing Japan.... The right way! P.S...These are the kind of people they give permanent residency permit...citizenship even. Other Nigerians take note...especially those Nigerians in some parts of Tokyo that are bringing our country's name into disrepute.... |
Not them LaVeyean comedians again! By the way, the Church of Satan...or the LaVeyean satanists are more of 'man worshipers'.... |
GIFTD:Thanks for showing me how much of a Christian you are not by your speech. By their fruits you shall know them indeed. Good e'en. |
RevenGeMission:Seriously...the number of NITEL subscribers never passed 400000 at any time in its history. Nowadays we have GSM companies with probably at least 15 million subscriber bases. |
NITEL's problem in my opinion was two fold 1.It was run as a government company.... 2.It also was not earning enough cash to keep it prospering. As for the privatization....yes, the company that bought NITEL was problematic....but they also had the highest bid. Still...other companies like ERICSSON bid for NITEL as well...wonder why government did not sell to them. 3.NITEL could not compete with the GSM companies...either in terms of technology or finances. If I was government...I would start a telecoms company as a GSM company. |
americaninja1:Good...then let's stop shouting about how Nigeria is not among the top cities...because OBVIOUSLY we can't afford it. We can afford better leaders, and better followers who would take us there. |
Nice....but I hope he also has the gift of faithfulness....that gift has no momentary value but is worth more than cars ,house, etc. |
post=74754934]CCT is not trying him for professional negligence but for criminal acts.MR Grills....there are many legitimate ways to make money. The Judge for all we know could have bought shares a long time ago that have appreciated...And it is a bit too close to the election to be running after the man. Wait till election done. Mr Racoon....stop using grammar. If there is suspicion of wrong doing...we got to investigate it. And let's be frank....Bubu or no bubu...our judiciary has corruption issues..and something must be done. |
americaninja1:And that is how we will continue with bad cities....... All those taxes they pay abroad...it isn't because people can afford them! |
Hmm, Gandollars is in soup. Hope something comes out of this. This might be the way to get him for bribery |
AngryNaijaMan:Gandollars is unfortunately immune from prosecution. And he has a backyard injunction preventing the state House of assembly from investigating him too |
Reno is right What is babachir doing out of jail? Ah well, grasscutters never change their fur That's why I can't vote for either APC or PDP. They are one and the same |
obonujoker:Yes, because most of you voted for them. And no,nothing for rigging. Most Nigerians genuinely love men like the ones you mentioned. That is why I always say democracy is hard work. The voting public's job does not stop at the ballot box. And the improvements needed to make our cities better need MONEY. They won't pay for themselves. You cannot demand good governance without working for it. |
Hopefully the Expo brings in investors who will eventually create jobs. Anything for the good of this country |
datola:Behind all those cities are 1.Strong and corrupt free municipal governments. 2.Taxes, heavy taxes. Those cities tax everything. In Nigeria? They wanted to start charging tenement taxes in Abuja. I doubt up till now that anyone has paid. Also in Abuja, four years ago there used to be something called parking ticket...until someone went to court and got it stopped. So how do you expect Nigerian cities to raise money for improvements. 3.Nigerians LOVE electing people who pay them to vote. And when those people take power...they calmly recover their costs, and do nothing for city development. 4.Nigerians that refuse to pay taxes for the Police to function well ? Nigerians that refuse to pay DISCO bills because they are too expensive? Nigerians that throw rubbish everywhere ? Garbage in... If you want your city to be a SUPER CITY....you have to pay the taxes, bills, etc for it. I used to live in one Birtish city that had a good transport system....and their council tax was about N40000 naira. If they start charging that in any Nigerian city...people will be out on the streets crying about poverty...the tax gets abolished...then suddenly at Christmas or Sallah, these same people will go and slaughter ram of 80000 or more. Good things are not matter of I dash una. |
And nothing will happen... This, after all, is NIGERIA. |
Princedapace:Bubu can do something to Akpabio....but for Kano...even if he tried...it always gets stymied by something called immunity. And even if they freeze accounts...as in Fayose's case...there are two problems 1.Gandollar did not use state funds in this case (he was paid a bribe...and paid in cash....and something tells me the money is hid somewhere that does not have his name on it) 2.Fayose's accounts were unfrozen by court order. God knows that we would have gotten immunity for publicofficers removed in 2006...as part of a package of laws..if not for Obj smuggling in third term for himself as part of that package that prevented the laws from being passed. |
Biglittlelois:Good am to you too. |
Biglittlelois:But if his name was YUNUSA....you guys would be telling a long story about Northern plots to catch young christian girls..... Thing is, girls in this country elope with both guys from both religions. And it is all because Nigerian mothers don't know anything baout bringing up teenagers. They look at them like little babies...when they ain't. And when this happens...we look for tribe, religion, etc. Not for the actual reason why? (By the way, I am a born again christian and I don't approve of her eloping or of Muslim or Christian men taking daughters away from other people's houses) |
Wow those CHRISTIANS....stealing young girls. from their parents houses! ![]() On a more serious note, Nigerians don't know how to handle teenagers. We think that they are always the nice lottle children they were when they were 3 years old and treat accordingly. When they do adult things...we are unprepared. Better we wake up |
