Sad that all we got is PDP and APC.... |
No Buhari...no Atiku.... PDP and APC jokes as usual. |
Uselessman:Oyedepo's church collects N600billion in offerings and tithes yearly Note that he has to pay church workers , pastors, church businesses, primary schools, and secodary school from that. University budget too comes from there as well. So, he does not have N1 trillion sitting down somewhere. |
Uselessman:You may, but let's be frank, even if Oyedepo sold all he had and dumped it on the university, (and to be honest, I expect him to do so!)...it would only adequately fund the university....for a few years. It's like what I hear when Nigerians say we should...rightly...cut the salaries of all the rich politicans in the National Assembly and use it to fund unviersity. We spend N1 trillion on the National Assembly. That's a lot. But according to the ASUU-FG agreement of 2009...ALL our federal universities needed N1.5 trillion in one year for adequate funding...in extra funding. One more thing...I wonder why people complain about Oyedepo. Afe Babalola and others have non-church affiliated universites that charge even higher. And all of them have one thing in common...zero access to govt fund. At least....YOU went to covenant. You had access to good hostel and class room facilites as a result of high fees. I went to a public university . For N2000 (later N18000 per annum)...I got poor hostels (six per room in my first year), poor cafeteria facilities, poor labs, and poor libraries. And zero computers. |
ollah2:And sweeping it under the carpet would make the issue go magically away.? |
ollah2:Nigerians talk a lot about stuff. Religion is one of the most important things to a Nigerian....including the atheist Nigerians. |
Topmaike007:No, the guy you quoted has asked a valid question.... I know one guy who is where he is today because a missionary gave him free admission to the school he was running. If not for that missionary that guy would have ended up doing menial jobs for a living. The truth is, university cannot be cheap.(That is the truth ASUU and FG are dodging from...and why we have strikes up and down...) But I think we Christians can lend a hand. Run scholarships, help the poorest of the poor, sponsor a student, fundraising, maybe a joint scholarship fund funded by CAN which can be funded by voluntary contribiutons...and also by making it an investment fund...which would in theend at least cushion the effect. |
Elzak:The truth is that many of them CAN afford the universites. But to answer your real question....why can't these churches allow students to go to school for N20000 per annum? Because if they did...many of their universites would be bankrupt in one year. Church unviersities have to raise their funding. Even mega rich churches like Living faith don't have access to the kind of funding that government does to subsidise education. Also, many of them rich churches have to pay unviersity staff at par with what they pay in public universites. And in addition, many of these churches also have other businesses, as well as pastors, chruch workers, etc who also have to be paid...and who employ lots of people....that have to be paid. Universites are also very expensive.Average budgets of well funded universites can be above $100million yearly. Many churches don';t have that cash at hand....and even if Papa sold all his fine jets, etc...that would only yield enough cash....for one year. Then fees have to go up again. I know...I wish educaiton was free. But it can't. Back when our parents went to University for free...getting into university was much harder than it was. It took 2 years...during which you wrote O level, A level, and whatever matric exam the university you wanted to enter set for you. And you must pass at a high level (One of my uncles got 5 credits at Olevel...in the right subjects too. Back then, it was enough for him to get into a teacher's training college. Not that he regretted it...he retired as a Principal a few years ago). Now, entry to unviersity has become easier. Millions more students are in university than they were in the 1970s. And the funding is becoming more and more difficult. So, fees. Or we end up with half baked graduates...or we pay professors N30000 as salary...and expect them to grin and bear it. |
The problem is that the Change Nigeria needs is beyond APC and PDP. Watch as PDP wins this election, and by 2023 there would be this same article but with different names. Nigerians don't like fighting corruption. Like people like parties |
And that is why Nigeria is a backward country |
Problems here 1.Poor city planning.Somewhere along the line the plans for Surulere were thrown into the bin 2.Poor light....this one I blame government for not doing stuff like taking loans to fix power, paying bills for government parastatals. And I blame Nigerians. Many Nigerians don't pay their bills. Plus...I am on a prepaid meter. I pay less than $5 for light...,meanwhile AN average Ghanaian pays more. Ghana has 24/7 light...Nigeria does not have light. 3.Poor water. Again...government...how well do they plan. Then how many people pay their water bills. Is what we are paying sufficient enough to make the water people supply us with water 24/7 Kai....Nigeria needs CHANGE...not APC or PDP change...CHANGE. |
It's all very well...but the key word is sustainability. We once heard how we were the fastest growing economy in Africa...until the oil price crashed in 2014. |
gidgiddy:First off, thumbs up to you and @Volksfuhrer for a good discussion... Re abolition of the regions...that came about because of minority tribe agitation for states....the kind of agitation that partly led to the Middle Belt region creation. Sure Gowon was playing divide and rule there...but remember Gowon was from a minority tribe too.... The tipping point for me towards secession was the 1966 pogroms...the 'October round' in particular. Aburi for me was just medicine after death. The Rubicon had been crossed ages ago. |
hmmm hmmm The problem with this story is that we are supposed to believe he was 'poisoned' without any information as to how he was poisioned or why... Here we go 1.Vomitting out blood could be due to lung disease, liver disease or peptic ulcer. 2.Then there is this Alcoholics are more prone to getting their esophageal veins ruptured as they frequently have nausea, forceful vomiting and retching from drinking too much alcoholSo, he most likely drank too much alcohol that day....then died either from alcoholic poisoning....the vomiting out blood TOO could have caused the death... Throwing up blood is always a medical emergency, but it can be a sign of a catastrophic event in alcoholics. Patients who have a history of esophageal varices can die within a few hours from exsanguination after they have the symptom of throwing up blood. The guy was an alcoholic. He died when he had a rupture of the veins in his oesophagous...which led him to vomit up a lot of blood...he in essence vomitted himself to death. Don't drink too much alcohol guys. SAUCE Oh, he was not poisoned by anyone. If he was, he would have taken a long time to die. |
“In view of the apparent indifference of government to permanently resolve these lingering issues, some of which have persisted for over five years now, the Joint Health Sector Unions by this letter notifies the Federal Government of her resolve to resume the suspended industrial action by Thursday, 31st January, 2019. “Having waited for this long it is surprising that the following matters have not been resolved,” he noted. In other words....the same old song. Anyway....the truth is...healthcare in Nigeria has a lot of problems. There is the war between doctors and nurses...and then there is the MONEY issue. |
Nukilia:To everyone who is crying 'When Nigeria will make it'...this is why we are not there... 1.Education....In China...their education system is a strict meritocracy. Exams are extremely tough...and you must start preparing for their equivalent of our WASSCE years in advance. In Nigeria...when students are busy with miracle centers, exam cheats, etc.... 2.In China...people pay their light bills on time, govt and private firms inclusive. In Nigeria...where people bypass their meters, people refuse to pay bills because 'too expensive' and then expect a DISCO who has so many people and government agencies and business owing them to give them what they cannot give? 3.In China....economic development is measured in terms of industrial growth. In Nigeria...haaa... a) Our people and political class are obsessed with restructuring...which really means 'How we share oil money'. b) Our people believe that the only good job is a white collar clerical job....if you are a technician...you are an illiterate. c) When it is time to construct infrastructure....that is when the natives come and start demanding bribes. etc... Problem with Nigeria is that we expect a Hero to save us from problems we can save ourselves from. |
larryking540:China has a huge racism problem....yes, there are black guys making it there (I even heard of one guy, originally from Niger Republic, who is even a millionaire...but that's after twenty years of hardship and hustle...plus he happened to be in the right place at the right time too)...but there is a lot of very racist attitudes. One Gabonese guy , who has lived in China for 3 decades, married , even speaks the language fluently, and is settled there...was racially abused while walking with his wife one evening. After three decades.... |
kolaxed98:1.China persecutes Christians...even till this day. The only churches that are allowed to operate are churches that have ther sermons approved by government minders. 2. China is developed....because they don't have enough resources to be selling and sharing the money...so they had to go industrial. When we tell you Nigerians to stop arguing over oil money...or whether the Hausas are taking away all our oil money, or the Igbos want Biafra so that they can chop oil money....and instead use your resources in your state to build an industry like Dangote and Innoson do...you people will laugh at us...and then go and vote people whose only idea is how to share money Even those chanting for restructuring...most of them want more money. Actual development they don't want. Go and vote right people into office. Stop all this Sai Barber and Atikuloot jokes and games. We need leaders who will take us away from our chop and quench mentality. |
ollah2:Just saying... |
Rockyrascal:More like a nickname..he was born and bred in Kaduna town |
9jaown:Same for PDP too.... And while you are at it...vote out APC and PDP.... |
Bashir Abdullahi Mohammed, Oche Ogenyi, Adefila Taofile Kayode, Rabiu Aliko Lawal and Mmadu Mathew Hmm...this one na collabo across religion and tribe... |
kullozone:Then why did you say 'Naija women' ? Presumably that includes all Nigerian women, young and old..... |
He certianly had his heart in the right place Our enemies are the political profiteers, the swindlers, the men in high and low places that seek bribes and demand 10 percent; those that seek to keep the country divided permanently so that they can remain in office as ministers or VIPs at least, the tribalists, the nepotists, those that make the country look big for nothing before international circles, those that have corrupted our society and put the Nigerian political calendar back by their words and deeds. Like good soldiers we are not promising anything miraculous or spectacular. But what we do promise every law abiding citizen is freedom from fear and all forms of oppression, freedom from general inefficiency and freedom to live and strive in every field of human endeavour, both nationally and internationally. We promise that you will no more be ashamed to say that you are a Nigerian.Yet precceding that comment.. Demonstrations and unauthorised assembly, non-cooperation with revolutionary troops are punishable in grave manner up to death. The man made some of our latter day dictators look like kindergartners. In my humble opinion....Nzeogwu had no business commissioning a coup. And had he succeeded, he would have been a very brutal dictator. And let's not forget the monster he unleashed which led to the death of millions by 1970... |

NinjaMetahuman:According to Premium Times... PREMIUM TIMES reported last year that Mr Abubakar sold his estate in the United States, following his inability to enter the country. He denied that his inability to enter the U.S. informed the sale, saying he only sold the mansion because he no longer needed it as he was now fully based in Nigeria.Sauce |

GistFullGround:1.No, ASUU strike won't cease under Atiku....and saying that Atiku is good for universities because he established one in his home state is like saying Buhari is good for universities too...since at least 4 were established under his administration. 2. The problem is, under the terms of the 2009 agreement., ASUU got a promise from FG to pay 3 trillion in extra funding for universites over the next 2 years. That funding has been beaten down to 1.1 trillion over 5 years. 3.With oil prices falling...Atiku is not going to get funding needed... 4.Plus...as far as I am concerned, Universities in Nigeria need more than 2 trillion annually just to keep fees low. 5.The real issue around the strike is that neither ASUU nor the government wants to face the cold reality of raised fees....instead they pretend we have the money, somehow...when we don't. |
uzolexis:Thank you! ![]() |
SEONaijaExpert:It's all very well, but so long as our economy is hooked to oil, wealth ain't sustainable |
The problem with universities is funding. Government has not been able to honor the 2009 agreement in its entirety. So, either fees go up, or universities remain a mess, unable to attract funding or new staff |
