@therationa,

The answers have been given earlier in other Nairaland threads and other websites - if only you would redeem your integrity by not trying to sound smart as if you suddenly have put your thinking to work! wink

WHY have YOU been avoiding the invitations offered you several times to stand and defend some of your own assumptions? grin Perhaps the reason why no one initially even bothered saying anything here is because they do not wish to be entertained by recycled and already stale arguments!

Already defended, so please stay on course. Do you care to honour my invitation to defend your own assumptions wher I have offered that invitation several times? grin

Right. Now see the following links where these allegations have been addressed:

(#1) - the same otiose argument from Horus:
My response: (https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-14450.352.html#msg1160762)

(#2) Again, he tried to whip up the same otiose argument:

You can see that all you have done here is simply change the topic of the thread/discussion from "Cannibalism in the Bible" (Horus) to "Human Sacrifice In The Bible" (therationa). Do you see why I earlier hinted that you've perfected the art of plagiarism by harvesting these arguments and dressing them up as your own? tongue

Now you can either indeed rest your otiose arguments; or come forward and enter into a discussion where you can hold your own assumptions and defend your misgivings to a logical end. Do you care to do so? grin
No GOOD god would prescribe such awful acts onto his children, however sinful they may be. This is simply preprostrous that you admit that a due punishment for being sinful.

BTW, STOP accusing me of plagiarism. Anyone who READS the bible should know this stuff , and I spent a lot of time reading the bible as a kid. To show you that I know them does not make it plagiarism, does it. There are many millions of people out there who are also aware of the MONSTROSITY of the bible but would rather stay quiet. I just don't stay mouth shut.

after eating chocolate ice-cream, marshmallows and almonds, i looked back at the "evidence" for cannibalism in the bible from our resident atheists and realised it was not worth a response.

I asked for EXAMPLES of cannibalism in the bible and all they could produce were instances that were not meant to be taken literarily.
Where are the actual examples? surely these accusers shld have been able to find one.
How do you know there were not meant to be taken literally? The context does not say so. Granted, most of the text does not say it happened, as it is reported in the future. But that is ducking the point. This is GOD saying HE will make people eat other people.

Is this acceptable behaviour? If you had found such a text in the koran of the Aztec holy book what would have been your opinion?

But Lamentations 4:10, actually reports it as having happened. Check it out.

Lol. . this is precisely the excuses that cheapen your intellect. It is like asking if there was any corroborating evidence of any rainfall in Jerusalem in 33 CE. grin

Of course, if you cannot find such "corroborating" evidence, you assume that Jerusalem would not have experienced rainfall in that year (or perhaps in any year at all). Good one - the argument from silence which has become your first-aid when you have had nothing in defence for your own assumptions! grin
Goodness. Why are you guys in the habit of making insults like - "cheapen your intellect". I worked for many years (10 years) as a Civil Engineer and learnt in the course of my career how to detect signs of ancients earthquakes. Of course, if it not found, this does not mean the earthquake did NOT happen. Only that if the signs are found, it strengthens the case as reported in the bible. Got it.

Foreign Affairs › God Selects The Rulers Of Countries; G W Bush, Sadam, Pol Pot, Abacha, Hitler by therationa(op): 1:04am On Feb 16, 2008
Apparently, it is God who is responsible for selecting the rulers of countries be they democratic or otherwise, dictators, tyrants or benign rulers. If this is the case, and given God's omniscience, you would expect God's selection procedure would ensure only the righteous and just are made rulers of their countries. However, this is not what really happens. From time immemorial, we have seen rulers pillage and destroy their countries, to the detriment of their own citizens; think of most of Africa. Nigeria is a case in point. One of the most religious nations on earth, with the level of privations not untypical of the 15 century. What is happening with God's ministration?

This is what the Apostle Paul had to say about the rulers of countries, Romans 13;

1 Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
2 Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you.
4 For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.
6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing.
7 Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

In the light of the above, should an oppressed people seek to overthrow a corrupt and unjust ruler?

Few Christians and non-christians are aware of the monstrous nature of some parts of the bible, a book unwisely sometimes called the Good Book. A more apt name would be more like the Monstrous Book. Yet this book is claimed in some quarters to have been inspired by God. Can a good and loving god command acts of cannibalism? Here is the evidence;

Deuteronomy 28:53-57
Because of the suffering that your enemy will inflict on you during the siege, you will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you. Even the most gentle and sensitive man among you will have no compassion on his own brother or the wife he loves or his surviving children, and he will not give to one of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all he has left because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of all your cities. The most gentle and sensitive woman among you - so sensitive and gentle that she would not venture to touch the ground with the sole of her foot - will begrudge the husband she loves and her own son or daughter the afterbirth from her womb and the children she bears. For she intends to eat them secretly during the siege and in the distress that your enemy will inflict on you in your cities.

Lev 26:29

You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.

Jeremiah 19: 9
I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh during the stress of the siege imposed on them by the enemies who seek their lives.

Lamentation 4:10
With their own hands compassionate women
have cooked their own children,
who became their food
when my people were destroyed.

Ezekiel 5:10
Therefore in your midst fathers will eat their children, and children will eat their fathers. I will inflict punishment on you and will scatter all your survivors to the winds.

2 Kings 6:26-29
As the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried to him, "Help me, my lord the king!"

The king replied, "If the Lord does not help you, where can I get help for you? From the threshing floor? From the winepress?" Then he asked her, "What's the matter?"

She answered, "This woman said to me, 'Give up your son so we may eat him today, and tomorrow we'll eat my son.' So we cooked my son and ate him. The next day I said to her, 'Give up your son so we may eat him,' but she had hidden him."

There may indeed be more instance of cannibalism, but these are the ones I have been able to find. I have already started a discussion about human sacrifice in the bible https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-112584.0.html.

CANNIBALISM IN THE BIBLE;

I will inflict punishment on you and will scatter all your survivors to the winds.

for someone who has made about 30 threads in less than 1 month you are not one to talk about evasion tactics.

Now get the truth rammed down your throat you hypocrite . . . you can't claim to be asking for the answer to 5*5=25 when you don't believe that 1+1=2.
It is either you believe God exists or not, to jump from there to asking whether His word is valid or not is not reasonable.

We started out by trying to take u through our persuasions thinking we were interacting with an individual with a capacity for rational reasoning. . . now we know better we will continue to serve you your own unpalatable dish of inconsistency and dishonest approach to issues until you show that u are ready for a reall discourse.

How many times did Stimulus call you out to thrash out issues? How many times did you cleverly dodge them by running like a scared rat to open another thread?

4Him:
you are desperately confused. When the God was talking about visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children he was talking to them AS A NATION not as individuals. He wasnt saying Mr. Lekan if you steal $5 i will cane your two daughters NO!
There are instances in the bible (i gave the example of Achan, also Korah in the wilderness) where whole familes have perished because of the actions of the head of the family but these are few and far between.

Moses struck the rock instead of speak to it, his two sons did not pay for that sin neither did their grandchildren. David took Beersheba and killed her husband YET solomon became king of Isreal. There are tons of other examples like that.

However when the leaders of Isreal caused them to sin, they and all the land of isreal paid for it either by being defeated in war (read the prayer of Gideon) or by going in to captivity (babylon). Daniel was full of the spirit, a wonderful man of God and YET he was in captivity for the sins of his ancestors.

That was why i gave the examples i did where whole nations can bear the brunt of the actions of their leaders. Of course it is bizare to u because it makes a mockery of your attempt to see that as a "contradiction" in the bible.

I can't say i blame you confused souls.

Therationa, it is not compulsory to be a christian. I am surprised that you are married to one with the level of hate that you keep inside.
So are the 10 commandments individual commandments OR are they communal (national) commandments?

If the Nation as a whole did not adopt other Gods, was it OK for individuals to adopt their own personal gods, since you suggest that that law was given as a National commandment?

I would have liked something like: It is the world of God because;

It contained the truth the origin of humankind, the origin of the world, it correctly predicted the development of supercomputers, it correctly foreshadowed the event of the world wars etc.

But you are playing evasive games. This shows you are not prepared to stick your neck out for what you believe. You are only comfortable amongst the credulous and ignorant, so you can bamboozle them by quoting and jumping from verse to verse showing off your skills of memory, but nothing else. What a way you underuse/abuse those little gray cells.

4Him:
Again more reason for me to believe you really have not bothered to read that which u are quick to castigate. The above in highlights is NOT a part of the 10 commandments . . . maybe the one you manufactured yourself.

Lets use a simple analogy . . . when the US went in to remove Saddam Hussein, many Iraqis were killed NOT because they were Saddam or because they supported Saddam in power but for the simple unfortunate fact that they were Iraqis!

Another analogy . . . Iran is suffering under the burden of international sanctions because of its leaders . . . isnt that monstrous? Is it the fault of the 5yr old Iranian boy who also has to partake in such sanctions?

Thanks to Abacha, Nigeria was in 1995 labelled a pariah nation and its citizens barred from travelling to western nations . . . was Abacha our fault? Isnt that monstrous?

In the old testament . . . such was the case too. A man was held accountable for his family. When Achan sinned in taking the spoil of Ai, his family perished with him.

With the new testament God decided to change it . . . now it is "whosoever believeth on Him shld not perish but have everlasting life" . . .

If that is inanity then leave me alone to bear the consequences of supporting such a "monster".
I wrote my last piece from memory but my drift was well on target. Now I have looked it up and I quote from my bible;

Exodus 20: 5: You must not worship or serve any idol because I am the Lord thy God, am a jealous God. If you hate me, I will punish your children, and even you grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

How did I get it wrong? In my previous post I was quoting from the Old English version I learnt as a child.

BTW, the examples you gave are just bizarre. Nowhere in civil society are people deliberately punished for the crimes/offense of their parents. And I meant DELIBERATE. Everyone suffers in wars, innocent and the culpable, not least the children. But that does not make it a deliberate act to inflict cruelty on the non-combatants. In fact there are specific Geneva conventions that serve to limit and prohibit such acts.

But the bible is replete with instances where women, children and animals are ordered to be killed by GOD for the acts of their fighting parents. What kind of GOD is this?

Would you not expect compassion from such a GOD?. And you call yourself a Christian. If you are a Christian, I would hate to be friends with such a person with such twisted morals.

What a MONSTROUS god you defend.

4Him:
What is the contradiction here? That the author of Genesis mentioned the same thing 2ce?

Please don't just start reading from verse 20 because you are looking for "contradictions". God clearly indicates in the earlier portions of this chapter that indeed there used to be a law that children were punished for the sins of their fathers.

Ez 18:1 The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying,
2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?
3 [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, ye shall not have [occasion] any more to use this proverb in Israel.
4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Very easy to understand . . . God was simply saying this in anticipation of the new covenant that was to come with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that there would come a time when no longer would children have to pay for the sins of their fathers but EVERY SOUL would have to account for his own deeds.

the only thing "contradictory" here is what YOU want to see.
This is breathtaking inanity. If there really was a time when children paid for the sins of their fathers, this makes you god all the more MONSTROUS. In fact, in the 10 commandments, it say something like "visiting the iniquities of the father on the children on the fourth generation".

This is simple monstrous. Why do you labour to defend/support such a monster?
Christianity Etc › What Is The Evidence That The Bible Is The Word Of God? by therationa(op): 10:03pm On Feb 15, 2008
It is claim by Christians that the bible is the inspired word of God, and we have only their word on this. But how could a skeptic go about verifying the Christian's claim? Is there any evidence within and/or without the bible that proves that it is the word of God?

If a skeptic is presented with a copy of the Qu'ran, the Bible, and other religious text from other tradition, what attributes or criteria could she use to select the most likely to have been inspired, given that they all claim to possess the word/truth of God?

OR

Should we just accept the claim because it says it is?

Christianity Etc › Re: Jesus' Tomb Found? by therationa(m): 9:45pm On Feb 15, 2008
This is very interesting subject. Before the programs is aired, I would like to get viewers to think about what would constitute good evidence to verifying that this probably Jesus's tomb.

Firstly, where would they go for such evidence? Roman records, Jewish records or Christian records.

If any of these records are consulted for corroborating the physical evidence on the tomb, how would you validate that record? For instance, in the Christian record, it is said that on the event of Jesus resurrection, there was a Great Earthquake which helped rolled the stone from the tomb entrance. Are there any corroborating evidence of such a massive earthquake in Jerusalem around 33 CE?

Is anyone aware of any prophesies that have been fulfilled, not fulfilled or still to be fulfilled. Please, can you share such informations with us.

If the prophesies have been fulfilled, can you state what the prophesy was(is), how and when it was fulfilled.

For the un-fulfilled prophesies, can you state why they remain un-fulfilled and when they are expected to be fulfilled?

4Him:
you're tripping over your own feet. Whether God exists is tied intimately to whether the bible is His word. You can't separate the two because God expressly declared in the book of St. John that He is His word!

Now back to your weak analogy, christians, great ones and mormons believe in the existence of "a god" . . . not just God. The christian believes that his God is clearly distinct from those of others and the rationale for this is in the bible.
This is just an evasion tactic. If you were debating with a m-uslim the existence of God would not be the issue. It would be whether the bible/qu'ran are his inspired words (or whether Jesus is his son or God; or Mu-hammed is prophet)

So before I believe in you God, I need to verify that what you claim to be his word is indeed his word. If it does not stand the test of my scrutiny, I reserve the option to not believe.

BTW, having a strong believe or conviction about something does not make it a fact. The ancients strongly believed that the Sun revolved about the earth, or that the earth was flat. Both of which turned out to be false, however strongly these believed were held.

If you are sincere in finding answers to the myriads of questions that you flood the website with it will be wise to get to know the Creator and Ruler of the universe and to intimate yourself with the author of the Truth book otherwise you will continue to grope in the spiritual fog as you were.
Are you suggesting that one must FIRST believe in God to understand these things. What kind of circular logic is this?
Christianity Etc › Re: On Conversion To A Religion (christianity Or I-slam) by therationa(op): 5:10pm On Feb 15, 2008
olabowale:
@Therationa: Have you ever been able to proof the non existence of God, you esteemed friend? At best you are not certain that all that you see around you just happened by accident. Then the possibility that your limited knowledge of your enviroment, is a proof that you do not know everything, or do you? Then Gods nature is in what you do not know. And you do not know whats happening in the next room to you. Let me show you how poor your knowledge of yourself is: you have never seen your back, except if you set up mirrors to give you imagery of it. And then, it will be the opposite and your brain will have to adjust to it. If your knowledge about yourself is limited how then you think you can disprove the unseen? Afterall, you are not more than a semen and an egg! And truth is the absent of falsehood. And truth is always one, but falsehood can be many: each time changing to adjust to new ideas. Knowledge that is beneficial is very direct and is always complete according to the needs of the one who seeks it.

2) Sure. If you put each to a test, with complete desire to find truth. But of course you must devorce yourself, first of all preconceived notions, that could be detrimental to your getting the truth directly. For example; when I was on the part of cerifying that God is ever existing, I first asked myself this Question: How did I come about? Then I came to the time of the first man, Adam. I this covered that Adam did not come from Ape as the darwinist will want us to believe. I asked myself, if I were from Ape, why hasn't another Ape become a man since then? If I were not from Ape, then the whole Darwin idea is dead and I must have been created anew. Then I must have a Creator. I called mine God, because I am a Great One and I believe He is One: Indivisible.

3) One of the most important thing is His name: God. It is His proper name. Then He lets us know at least 99 of His attributes. One of them is Alqahr: The Irrestitable; simple means everyone need Him and He need no one. Another is that everyone will perish, including all known and unknown beings; except Him. And He is the Lord of the day of Judgement. He also says He is the only One who can protect and the only One who can punish (Both, in truth).

4) If you divest yourself from all that you have known, then you should have no problem with your heart letting you know the truth. You should try finding truth yourself.
Many, many many thanks Olabowale. This is how I expect to see responses to these questions. Unlike the evasion I am seeing from my Christian friends. Looks like they have something to hide. Or maybe them do not know.

Let this be a lesson for those Christians out there. I shall need to time to digest your response though. smiley Many thankx again
