Twitter is only being factual here |
Oh boy, this is more than Rocky Balboa o. As in the guy is literally a mass of walking rocks. |
Kjhova, You are very sound! The logic of your submissions is excellent. Thanks for the refreshing enlightenment about the history of the Yoruba political landscape. Omonnakoda is just playing the devil's advocate by not wanting to follow popular opinion. But he should realize that being different from the crowd in itself does not automatically connote wisdom or correctness. His arguments for RFK and Akintola have been weak and will do little to convince anybody. |
Jokerman:Can't you read. I said the Phenomenon has won the World Cup golden ball and the silver ball in 1998 and 2002 respectively. He also got the best player at the Copa America 1997, which are all testament to his individual greatness. Cristiano has never won any of these including the European version of the Copa. That's the hallmark of individual greatness and these are facts. That being said. Cristiano does not hold a candle to De lima in terms of ability to do magic with the ball on the field of play. If you call that sentimental garbage, then I'm afraid you know nothing about football. Several top football personalities, including Jose Mourinho, Cristiano's compatriot have made the comparison and attested to this fact. |
Jokerman:Lol, as if you are lover of Messi. Yes. These players can actually terrorize opposition all game long consistently. They have all won the World'cup's best player which demonstrates their overall influence throughout the tournament and not just goalscoring. And don't u ever insult Ronaldo da lima, by mentioning CR7 in the same breath as him. Imagine the effrontery. Have you ever watched Da Lima play? Even it's not easy for me to say Messi is head and shoulders better than him. |
bayelsaowei:Yeah you are so right, I really don't understand at what point the standard changed. Imagine Messi having 3 assists and pulling all the strings in a single game and peeps were saying he's out of form. How?? I remember Zidane against Brazil in 2006 WC. He was mesmerizing the entire Brazilian team with outrageous skills. He didn't score, but assisted the only goal of the game. He was awarded the World Cup's golden ball on the strength of that performance and would have won the world player of the year if not for the headbutt incident. Can you now imagine a CR7 fan's comment that assists and how the game is played don't matter in football? That's why I regard them as ignoramuses in football matters. Even Ronaldinho's performance against AC Milan at San Siro in 2005 UCL semifinal. He didn't score, but we all remember his infamous leg over that sent Gattuso to the cleaners, his mesmerizing assist for Ludovic Guily. And he was rewarded for that. If it was Messi, I bet they'll say he had an average game lol. |
stanliwise:Bro despite everything I've said about Ronaldo's penalty prowess, I won't deny that he's a great goalscorer, in fact one of the greatest goalscorers in the game's history. He's in the class of Gerd Muller, Romario, Di Stefano in this regard. No one can take that away from him. My point is he offers little else other than that. And that's where the likes of Messi, Maradona, Ronaldo da Lima, Pele, Zidane and Cryuff trumps him. |
stanliwise:Zlatan scored 79 penalties across SEVEN leagues bro (Serie A, Dutch Eredivisie, EPL, La Liga, French Lique 1, MLS and Sweden) ![]() Just give it a rest bro, I know you wish to boost CR7, but it's not working. Facts are facts. |
stanliwise:CR7 has missed 22 penalties in his career. With respect to penalty conversion rate, there are a handful of players who are better penalty scorers than CR7: Matt Le Tissier was the best penalty scorer as he had a conversion rate of 98% (48/49 penalties). Others with better conversion rate than CR7 include: Alan Shearer, Frank Lampard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. |
stanliwise:Noted. But it looks like you are the one watering down C.Ronaldo by emphasizing on penalities as his area of core competence! For your information, Pele was known to refuse taking penalties at times as he felt it was an affront to his scoring prowess to be gifted free goals. Over 20% of CR7's goals are penalties. |
PopeFlatino:You are right. If you even consider this, of all the sensational news available about Messi yesterday, that is: -Messi scoring brilliant four goal haul -First player to make 1000 goal contributions -Highest number of hattricks career wise and la liga -Eibar plays tribute to Lionel Messi saying they cannot but applaud him even though he has made them suffer a lot - I will not wash my cloth after hugging Messi - Braithwaite Knowing that it would be totally indefensible to ignore Messi after his otherworldy performance, one of the incompetent Mods then proceeded to chose the least complimentary of the news as a front page item i.e I will not wash my cloth after hugging Messi, a newspiece with focus on Braithwaite, who many people don't even know at all, as the subject, and with scanty reference to what Messi actually did to warrant such statement. They then proceeded to issue CR7's news with him as the unmistakable subject, "CR7 scores in his 1000th game", with no interference from an obscure Braithwaite and his likes here. How so convenient ![]() I'm sure it's that Ogbiwa mod and Obembet or something that are the principal culprits. That's if they are not the same person. |
Whobedatte:Lool, Are you just knowing?? I've noticed it for like a year plus now. Only that they are now making it more obvious. Messi's superiority dey pain dem die!! |
See performance. Pls wake me up when CR7 achieve this kind of performance in a single match. Just look at the sheer quality of the goals, something penaldo can never match. All his hattricks, na penalty and tap-ins. Nothing ingenious like Messi's output. Messi has always been more than just goals. I have always said this. The goals are just the icing on the cake. It's the play, the dribble, that feint, the mesmerizing sprint, the subtle pass, nutmeg, the slalom, the precision, unparalleled vision, name it! That's what we are talking about. That's what we got with breathtaking Ronaldinho even though Eto'o was scoring more goals; with Zidane even though Raul was scoring more goals. That's pure football artistry which sadly is what CR7 fans can never understand. The above notwithstanding, please note this below:
|
pahars:Seriously I am baffled by Nairaland's show of shame in partisanship. It's like Seun doesn't realize that some of his mods are allowing their personal sentiments override their sense of objectivity in reporting newsworthy events. How can Messi win one of the biggest individual sport awards, the Laureus Sportman of the year, and it did not make frontpage, despite several comments on the news item in the sport section And then Messi now makes just a simple comment that renders CR7 in good light, then boom it goes to the front page straightaway?? This is turning sense upside down! Outright unprofessionalism! What I have observed is that the mods are always pained by Messi's perceived superiority in the footballing world and are always doing everything to downplay his prowess, which includes ignoring his successes and magnifying his rival beyond reasonable proportions. It will never change the fact that Messi is the GOAT. |
yungsmart:I wonder as well. There's a lot of anti-Messi sentiments here. Meanwhile, If CR farted and it made the news, it'd have been on front-page since. |
Congratulations to Lionel Messi, the greatest player of his generation, for another landmark achievement. He keeps breaking boundaries adding yet another feather to his cap as THE ONLY SOCCER PLAYER TO WIN THE PRESTIGIOUS LAUREUS SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD. To highlight the importance of this award, the maximum record is held by Roger Federer, who is a five time winner of the award. The organizers, in recognition of Messi's incredible individual contributions on the field of play, had to break their protocol of not considering team based games for the award. A testament to Messi's individual brilliance on the pitch across all key parameters i.e goalscoring, playmaking, dribbling, passing long or short, technique, control, free-kicks name it. As seen in the last few games for Barcelona, even when Messi is not scoring, he remains crucial than ever for the team's results. He created barca's last six consecutive assists across three games. The first player to do so in a top-tier European league in a long while. The GOAT undisputed. cc: lalasticlala |

You mean an eclipse of the sun or moon is more prolific than this guy An eclipse happens like once in at least every 5 - 10 years! While waiting for this guy to score, there would have been like: - at least 200 plane crashes, as rare as plane crashes are - Seven major volcanic eruptions, as rare as they are - Six world cups - Twenty four Big brother Nigeria shows! - a newborn baby would have finished college and gotten married Just imagine. I officially present to you Greatest Conman of All Time |
cr7lomo:I think I’ve schooled you before, I won’t mind doing it again for free. You obviously lack a footballing brain. Messi has already won the Globe Playmakers award last year. Isn’t that an award primarily hinged on creating opportunities for your team by way of assists? You are so ignorant that the very reason you are mocking Messi for is a recognized award that Messi has actually won. Please don’t quote me again if you don’t have anything sensible to say as I only engage in people with at least a modicum of footballing knowledge in order to preserve my own intellectual integrity. You can insult me all you want (I don’t expect any critical thinking from you), I won’t reply anymore. In your blissful ignorance, you failed to see that I did not criticize her for supporting CR7, I support Messi and I make no apologies for that. But that she was perpetually on the look out for anti-Messi posts like she is on a mission (in futility). I don’t see anti-CR7 fans live their entire life constantly seeking for negative opinions about CR7 to post on NL. Emmanuel Petit is entitled to his opinion that Messi can’t cut it out in the EPL (Aguero, Silva, Torres, Yaya Toure comes to mind), Jurgen Klopp is also entitled to his opinion that Messi should always win the Ballon D’or as the best player every year. Both of their opinion does not change the fact that Messi is the greatest player of his generation and that, I know, is beyond your mental grasp. The truth hurts, I know. |
obembet:While the guy is wrong for insulting you, you also appear to have a full healthy dose of bitterness for Messi. What's with all the anti-Messi posts you diligently seek for and bring to NL all the time? Even after a night where Messi recorded a hattrick of assists in a scintillating performance and helped Barca to victory which you conveniently ignored, you still went to look for negative energy just to get Messi bashed? Your second name should be bitterleaf soup ma'am. If life is about looking for negative opinions of others to be able to survive, then I'm afraid there are millions of anti-Messi fans on social media globally that you can scrounge after and bring their worthless opinions to NL for you to gloat over and hide your inner pain. But you know one thing, every player, sports journalist with a footballing brain have always acknowledged that Messi is the greatest footballer of his generation. This is a matter of fact (highest number of Fifa world player & ballon d'ors) that a million Emmanuel Petits and his likes cannot change. |
Pathetic. This beggars belief. If a very average footballer earns 20,000 pounds per week for 10 years without any increase, he'll have grossed over 10 million pounds (over 4billion Naira) during this period. Now consider an elite footballer who earns multiples of 20,000 pounds a week for up to 15 years, who most likely would have grossed over 100 million pounds, then also add mega income from endorsements, you are probably looking at 150 - 200 million pounds (60 - 80 billion Naira) from a glittering career. How can such a person go broke ?? I can understand Ifeanyi Udeze or Femi Opabunmi going broke. But Ronaldinho, how can you be broke?? It's just beyond my understanding. For David James, you don't need a soothsayer to tell you a huge chunk of his dough ended up in the purse of those sweet in the middles. Mynd44 front page please. |
So, the crash was likely due to Pilot error. So so sad as it was an avoidable death. RIP KB |
While I mostly agree with you on the criteria for being a world class player, I think the examples you gave are too restrictive. Any player can be a world class player. It does not have to be only the top 5 percent. My own criteria for a world class player goes thus: 1. Quality 2. Consistency in delivery 3. Impact in pressure moments/big games 4. X-factor You don't have to have won trophies to be a world class player. But I agree that eventually a world class player will have to play in a big team. There are many world class players over time in the EPL. Man Utd - cantona, scholes, Nistelrooy, CR7, Rooney, Ferdinand, Stam, Vidic, Giggs, Beckham, Schmeichel, Van der saar Arsenal - Bergkamp, Henry, Pires, Vieira, Campbell, Van Persie, Fabregas. Chelsea - Zola, Lampard, Drogba, Terry, Cech, Makelele, Cavarlho, Cole, Hazard Liverpool - Owen, Gerard, Torres, Riise, Salah, Mane, Coutinho, VVD, Becker |
True, I agree, there was a greater catch to the classico when CR7 was involved. Messi had extra motivation to humiliate Real Madrid whenever CR7 was playing. |
livebyday:Nuclear weapons in the hands of a nation that is ready to sacrifice its own existence on the altar of radicalism? That will be the end of the world! |
yorubademon1:That, my friend, will be Armageddon! |
All the goodwill gained by Iran over the US attack on Suleiman have been wiped out. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. This is gross level of incompetence from Iran. It is beyond stupidity, on a global scale. How do you shoot down a plane that took off from your own nearby airport under the pretext that it was a hostile aircraft? It is as if Mr Bean was handling their missile weaponry. Yes that is exactly what they are, Jokers! Trump will just be sitting down and smiling That being said, I don't trust that the US did not use some technology interceptory intelligence to befuddle the Iranian defence system The coincidence is just too co-incidental! And one of the key rules in warfare/ intelligence they teach is that; "There's no such thing as a coincidence" |
Cotton:You re wrong. The Finance bill also contains provisions exempting companies with annual turnover of less than N25million from paying or filing VAT returns. |
donoro:It's debatable. Lewy too doesn't have a UCL trophy. Personally I'll put both of them in the same class as they are excellent poachers. That's why I said they are equal. |
Jokerman:Oga u no dey read mathematical sign? I put equal to, you re saying greater than. |
South America>Europe>Africa Reasons Neymar =Mbappe>Mane Aguero = Lewandoski>Aubameyang Messi>Ronaldo>Salah C'est Fini |
Dybala11:Apologies, but please verify things before you call them lies, otherwise you become the liar. Messi did not only play against and win Ronaldo's team in 2009. HE ALSO PLAYED AGAINST REAL MADRID IN UCL SEMI-FINAL IN 2011 AND SCORED 2 SPECTACULAR GOALS AT THE BERNABEU TO SEND MADRID AND RONALDO CRASHING OUT OF THE COMPETITION! Please check it out on youtube if you are still unconvinced. If you are ignorant of the above, then I shouldn't be arguing with someone with limited football knowledge. |
