You are right in principle. However, showing symptoms will mean that the virus is spread faster in our dense population, and our already weak healthcare system will be overwhelmed by sheer numbers of people requiring intensive care which may lead to more fatalities. If many people are asymptomatic, although they can also spread the disease during this period, the fatality rate should be lower, as more people will recover quicker. I made this statement based on observations that the infected Nigerians living in Nigeria reported so far have all been asymptomatic i.e the one from the index italian case and the Ekiti driver of the American. All the sick ones are those that returned from COVID hotspots.

Why didn't he order the person to self quarantine in line with government directives.

This is why I say government just has to change its strategy if it has any. The Nigerian that cannot obey a simple traffic light will not obey a complex self quarantine regime. It has to be made mandatory the way it is done in China, a cou try that has experience of what this pandemic can do to a country. In China all quarantines are done in government establishments to ensure probity.

If our government cannot take the sensible decision of suspending visas and closing borders to all but a few countries with zero cases then it should declare a state of emergency in all international gateway states of Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Portharcourt and commandeer all hotels and medical facilities within proximity of those city airports for mandatory quarantines. It may not be for as long as 14 days but no one should be allowed to walk straight into society and decide by him or her self whether he or she is a threat to society. That is just idiotic.

The government should step in and quarantine the entire staff of that company and decide by itself when their premises and operarions can resume, not them. Nigerians are not their brothers keeper. They cannot be trusted to do what is right. Goverment must be more assertive. If this thing hits the core of society and it begins to empty out police stations and debilitate prison wardens and grounds soldiers then we wil take it seriously.

How are you sure he died of high fever, even the source you quoted says it's a suspected case of coronavirus. Also, High fever is one of the strong symptoms of Corona. Like I stated, only the location of death is different (Canada instead of Italy). However this does not mean the man did not die, or that his cause of death is not coronavirus.

There's nothing to understand better. Of course I knew he was sick. But Nigerians in general were referring to him as half-dead which was symptomatic of the sentiments against him.

I know that being sick was outside of his control. However, you don't also get automatic medals for just being sick. There are provisions in the constitution to address such situations. Yaradua didn't really do anything significant to warrant his tenure being considered as our best democratic dispensation. Those who think so are just hypocrites, or they've lost their memory.

I'm baffled by the several comments here. It's like a lot of people have deliberate amnesia. Yaradua was heavily criticized by Nigerians for not being in charge during his Government. His Govt was predominantly reputed for being slow and he was always referred to as the half-dead president. It took the intervention of Femi falana and Co to successfully get his family to handover to GEJ.

That successive Governments were worse does not make Yaradua's tenure good and a fairytale as is being presented here.

At this rate, I'm sure Buhari will be hailed as the best thing to happen to Nigeria by 2030!
