I am still wondering why the government agency had to run to the press over this matter.I mean its not logical for a 'theif' to declare a stolen item to the police.a thorough investigation should have been done before rushig to the press.most probably they asked for some part of the bar and guy refused to budge..

We deserve it and its not a bad idea.Such money should be welfare oriented..for the unemployed, the unemployable (dissidents, disabled, babies, school children, uni students, elderly) and of course to qualify for such, there would be strict evaluation and assessment on case by case basis.it cannot be for every Nigerian(should be income tested). Also there should be another headcount without flaws in which we would have the correct data of all Nigerians.Strong tax regimes should be made to drive this kind of welfarist system so that it won't go into extinction when our oil dries up.By the way,all I have written up here cannot be achieved within the present political and social framework...so I'm afraid if we want that in the next decade,we have to start planning now..no be by mouth

No one should bully, intimidate, or commit atrocities of violence against any human being. In additiom, my father claims to be a ranking member of the Redeemed church - very sad, that someone who goes to church practices this level of violence. What would jesus do.

I can see why your father disagrees with you oftentimes. He is a pastor/high ranking member of the RCCG, here you are always talking about bleeping babes...see your moniker sef..OBOWUNMI...

Pukkah:

The Nigerian arrangement is funny.

When it comes to spending money in public offices (constitutional or unconstitutional), they are public citizens.
They spend the money, travel, collect allowances and launch pet projects.

When it comes to full disclosure or accountability, either about their assets or their health;
The same people become private citizens and 'don't give a damn'.

Is it not a paradox - private citizens spending public money in public offices and refusing to give account to the public?

Jenkinson: @ darray

Am not new to Nairaland and I can't log into my NL account hence my new I.d! Arik did not send me and I am only angry at that idiot omojuwa because he feels his twitter popularity is a reason to bring a company down and criticize incessantly! Why should he have a lot of supporters praising him and when a dissenting voice arises to counterattack his waffles, the person becomes an enemy, voltron, 40 laptop guy etc. There are 2 sides to every story and I have given my own 2 cents about it, write your own in support of omojuwa and I will reply that Omojuwa sent you and paid you to defend him.

Nobody is talking about the kook of the whole thing which is that he accepts that he negligently forgot his iPad in an aircraft. Why should a company take liability for his stupidity? You forget your wallet in a bus and you want to blame the conductor for your stupidity? Does that make sense?

As much as i am not a follower of Omojuwa,i want to deduce from your sentimental comments that you are probably mad at this Omojuwa for having so many die-hard followers on twitter and facebook rather than the case at hand.Oga,something must have drawn these followers to the guy, try carve an identity for yourself too. The earth is big enough for all to exist without brushing one another.

DTaj: @Jarus, your piece: "Momodu: Abuse of columnism" is so apt...I'm also writing one and it should be published in the dailies in a few days. Momodu's column of last weekend was the most watery journalism piece I have ever read! He writes terribly bad, but the one on Sanusi was the nadir of stupidity. The guy should just shut up and face his glorified photography job at Ovation!

For all of Sanusi's weakness in having a caustic tongue and less diplomacy, well informed people, especially those very familiar with the internal activities of the banking industry (either at operators' level, Bankers' Committee, Monetary Policy Committee- MPC, Economic Management Team- EMT), etc know that Sanusi knows his onions, and is eminently qualified to assume his CBN role.

HISTORY WILL BE VERY KIND ON SANUSI LAMIDO SANUSI! Some daft, ignorant, tribalistic, uninformed commentators will praise Sanusi after his exit in 2014 (mark my word).

How will history be kind to this man if truly he was involved in the killing of Gideon Akaluka? He needs to defend himself fast on this allegation if it is a fabrication

MAYOWAAK: Who is Sanusi Lamido Sanusi Written by Uche Igwe

Probably the most disturbing is the allegation that Mr. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is both a supporter and sympathiser of religious extremism. Dependable academic sources documented that one Sanusi Lamido Sanusi alleged played a catalytic role in the public beheading of one Mr. Gideon Akaluka in Kano in 1995 on a false allegation of desecrating the Muslim holy book. A 2003 report from the Centre for Human Rights Policy at the Kennedy School Harvard University, United States of America, affirms that this singular event sparked off the religious riots where thousands of Christians were massacred. It was said that Mr. Sanusi was expelled from Kano and locked up in Sokoto prisons for two years by the late Sani Abacha government until his benefactors bailed him out. Now, hang on a minute- could it be the same person or a case of mistaken identity? Who really is Sanusi Lamido Sanusi? A cerebral economist? A reform minded regulator? An ambitious politician? Or an Islamic fundamentalist? The answers to these questions will reveal the real personality of the head of the apex bank and can give ordinary Nigerians fresh insights as to what the next move of the Dan Majen Kano may be.

MAYOWAAK: President Jonathan Should Sack Sanusi Now! By Eghes Eyieyien

So what happened? Sanusi's imposition of his wrong-headed, illegal, unconstitutional, Malaysia-style Islamic Banking policy exposed him as an Islamist. I subsequently also became aware of his inglorious role in the infamous Kano religious riot which culminated in the beheading of Gideon Akaluka in 1996 and for which he was incarcerated for two years in Sokoto Prison by the government of Gen. Sani Abacha. This vital factual information is, understandable not disclosed in any of his profiles. The Senate was misled by late President Umaru Yar'adua (who ensured that this information was not highlighted in his Security Report) to confirm him as the CBN Governor. I have challenged Sanusi publicly to come clean on this issue or sue me if I have maligned him!

Moreover, his incompetence, profligacy (he now wants CBN to be sponsoring the Super Eagles!! LOL!!) and inane monetary policies have damaged the financial services sector and badly affected our nation's economy.

President Goodluck Jonathan should sack this guy before he does even more damage! It has now reached a crisis point. And the time to act is NOW!!

God bless Nigeria!

Do Ekiti people need this? I wonder why Nigerian leaders are clueless. This governor has not even solved the basic education problems bedevilling the state, he is talking of a Samsung academy. How does this help raise the state's poor standard of education? How does this initiative improve on the facilities in the state owned schools? Why not solve the basic problems facing the education sector of the state? You need to go the state owned schools to know what i am saying. The secondary schools do not have proper science labs to train its teeming learners, the state university does not have modern facilities to handle science and engineering courses thereby churning out half baked science and engineering graduates year in, year out. These politicians just love to use our destinies to play politics, because i do not see any good fruit that will be reaped from this meaningless trip to SEOUL, South Korea

Politics / Re: List Of Pro-GEJ Paid Laptop Guys On Nairaland by tjadeba(m): 8:33pm On Jul 25, 2012
Pukkah: The standards in Nigeria have fallen so badly to the extent that the quality of mercenaries and paid government agents is embarrassingly low. It is worrisome that such an awkward and inelegant group is the one that has been recruited to pour encomiums on the government. Generally speaking, the group lacks tact, style, and panache.

Rather than adopt the honourable way of defending their principal, master, and patron - President Jonathan, either by refuting the misconceptions about him (with facts) and/or regaling us with his achievements; these unthinking apologists and robotic minions resort to mudslinging, character assassination and outright lies. Whenever they are beaten at their game of shenanigans, they simply change their dirty antics by going for red herring and other diversionary tactics. In their folly, they totally forget that their master and patron is an elected official and so is and should not be immune from criticisms.

Curiously, there are several of these permanently-biased posters in circulation - no thanks to the battered economy which has produced millions of under-employed, unemployed and unemployable youths. For most of them, now popularly and derisively tagged ’40 laptop group’, their posts on this forum stand out in their unparalleled idiocy, unbridled partisanship, and unprecedented sycophancy. Again, for this group, their posts reek of all sorts of errors, which make you conclude that their recruitment process must have been as arbitrary and handled in the same manner in which their principal is running the country. This kind of development is not good for our country and it is a sad commentary on the general state of affairs which, ironically, they are stupidly defending.

One of them did have the misfortune to come across me days ago on this thread https://www.nairaland.com/994976/reps-threaten-impeach-president-goodluck/4#11531344. Faced with obvious defeat after intense walloping, he abandoned the thread and fled with his tail between his legs. This type of fleeing or volte face, after a woeful performance, is unflattering for a supposed mercenary. Such a person is too shallow, lily-livered, and unintelligent to engage unpaid, genuinely-concerned, and passion-driven citizens.

My word to this group, and their leader, is that they should up their game and conduct themselves in a respectable manner. We need intelligent and hard-hitting people as government spokespersons and not oafs, knuckleheads and common party hooligans. We need eggheads that can sift the constructive criticisms out of the millions against the Mr President and pass them on for possible review and implementation for the benefit of our country; and not unthinking robots who see the President as incapable of doing any wrong. We do not need jesters and thugs who only excel at hurling insults and readily manifest their ill-breeding whenever they are intellectually challenged or defeated.

Should they choose not to carry out their ‘jobs’ respectably or in a honest manner, they should realize that every action of man shall be repaid and rewarded. Those who sow the wind shall always reap the whirlwind.

Ever since I started hearing about the way these Fulani people rob motorists, what baffles me is what they use the money they steal in doing. They are people who don't live ostentatious lives..they don't ride cars, they don't build mansions...what is the intended use of the money they kill people for? Do they use it to acquire more cows? fyneguy: Bros, I disagree with u on why the banks are retrenching. I was a banker over a decade ago and currently provide some tech solutions to banks, which put me in a vantage position to be privy to the real issues with these banks. ↲Truth is that most of the banks deal in volatile and unsustainable revenue streams. The managements of these banks are either clueless, lack creativity or both, as to how banking should be done for sustainable operations. What most of them do is accummulate short-term deposits and rush to buy treasury bills. Then, take usually fraudulent charges on customers' accts. Some banks built their deposit portfolio with ill-gotten pension funds, oil subsidy funds and other fraudulent sources. Once those sources dried up, they got into trouble. You should do a study on the deposit, loan and revenue characters of these banks, you'll understand why these banks, and by extension, Nigerian economy are in a sorry state.

Phones / Re: Why Is BlackBerry Seen As Prestigious In Nigeria? by tjadeba(m): 8:39am On Jul 02, 2012
IPhone and Android are more applications friendly - Fact, but how many of such applications are useful in Nigeria? So does one need to spend so much on data for just streaming video or chatting? As in I don't expect a lowly and averagely paid worker in Nigeria to expend so much on communication just because he/she wants use the latest phones.Technology deployment/use should match returns on investment or something near to it if not being used for business purposes. The idea people had about BB phones in Nigeria before now was "its just a fad" and it will soon fizzle, but I think its fast changing because of how the gadget has helped the way people communicate.Contrary to the OP's reasoning that its a thing of prestige, its more of an efficient and economical communication gadget.
Nigerian users don't buy new Blackberry phones- Fact, but they also don't buy new iPhones and HTCs,so regardless of how sales are currently falling or rising in the smart phone market,I don't think the Nigerian market counts a lot (just my thoughts), but a sales chart could disprove my theory o.

I remember i used to say this to myself years back that i wouldnt ever like to board local flights in Nigeria on a Saturday or Sunday. It may just be an unintelligent thoughts here, but its just the way its been happening..i think the attitude towards work on weekends could also be responsible for the fatalities and most times for slow emergency response.
