It is not expressly stated in Nigeria constitution to have a democratic President and Vice president from same or different religions.

But then the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, is the grundnorm. The highest law in the land of which every provision is binding on all and every other law bows to.

According to Section 1(1), “This Constitution is supreme and its provisions shall have binding force on the authorities and persons throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria”. Nigeria is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious nation.

The whole idea of Section 14 is that our diversity in ethnicity and religion must be recognised and factored in while composing any government and no ethnic or religious group should be allowed to dominate others or be discriminated against.

As a matter of fact, Section 14(3) states and I quote...

"The composition of the Government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons form a few States or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that government or in any of its agencies."

The government of the federation is composed of three arms of government, the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary.

The Constitution expects that our ethnic and religious diversity should be reflected in each arm of the government without any section dominating another and religion is clearly sectional.

This simply means that the executive arm must have a balanced representation of a multi-religious nature of the country hence it becomes a constitutional breach

Apparently this has been the situation since 1999 when we had Obasanjo and Atiku, Yaradua and Jonathan, Jonathan and Sambo and presently Buhari and Osinbajo.

If this has been the norm since 1999 what could bring about a distortion in this balanced representation come 2023?

Does this promote equity and fairness?, should Nigerians accept or reject this anomaly?

I only thank God that some notable Nigerians are already queuing behind the tender plant from Adamawa to request for restructuring of our nation.

Having said these, you would see that Tunde Bakare may not have been wrong when he so prophesied. It is likely we have been looking for the Tender Plant in the wrong places when he has always been before our very eyes. But I think that it is important for us to go to ask Atiku Abubakar, (like John the Baptist did when his believe in the Messaiahship of Jesus waned for a little bit) ‘Are you the Messiah? Or should we expect another?

Could the Emergence of Atiku as PDP candidate bring the prophecy to pass?

Time will tell.
