Terry68:No more subsidy. |
eyinjuege:I made it clear that this writeup is hinged on religious angle and i concluded by stating the disparities so that people can draw the line between man made radition and God's ordinances. Bride price is a tradition and we should abide by traditions tha are IN LINE WITH SCRIPTURES. |
adajiboyy:it is a common knowledge ha a barrel of cude sold so well for 90 to ocer 100 naira in the days of GEJ so there was excess crude profis to service subsidy payment unlike now that it is sold between 30 to 40naira |
cathodekazim:Another biological weapon. |
NevetsIbot:I read, and sometimes i just start writing stuffs on nairaland. |
Iamsok:lol..must you display toutery to make a point? you can counter the thread intelligently without using low-life words. Anyways the truth remains that subsidy removal in the long run will pay off but no withou huge sacrifice from us. In the days of Jonahan, the arguement was that crude oil was selling well in he intenational market which generrated enough money to pay subsidies but today we are all aware tthat he price of crude has droped and this has made it very hard for the government to sustain subsidy payment. He good news is that we now have a governmen i believe is "less corrupt" meaning we just might see great improvement. Just imagine what 1billion nairra in a thousand places can do...les give this governmen a chance. |
Isaacmacdon:lol...your abrevations no get mate o. |
Standing5:You are right but then you must understand that the rend is same in other countries who have increased the pump price..even venezuella increased by over 1000% in 20 years. With a decline in the crude oil cost,it has become extremely difficult for the government to fund the imported product. |
Isaacmacdon:The fact is that there are still many Nigerians who needs to know what is going on. |
Over the years Nigerians have been faced with series controversies surrounding subsidy removal and many Nigerians have frowned against this with great ferocity each time the government of the day makes any move to remove it either totally or partially. Many opposition bodies have used this to campaign against the government of the day and that was the case during the period of President Goodluck Jonathan and many Nigerians were also made to believe that it was indeed a callous move by previous governments to inflict hardship on Nigerians but just yesterday,we got a very surprising news that the APC led government have decided to finally remove subsidy as Petrol will now sell for a maximum of N145 per liter.. The question on the minds of many is why was there a strong move against this in the past? could it be to lack of proper sensitization of the populace by the previous governments?or was it because the lack of trust in the previous administrations or shall we say we have suddenly realized the true picture of the situation on ground? I guess these are questions we will continue to ask ourselves but this write up will address the reality and advantages of subsidy removal from a very layman's perspective and professionals are welcomed to shed more like and correct any form of misinformation. THE REALITY FUEL SUBSIDY: Understanding the madness called “fuel subsidy” requires a walk down memory lane. However, let me start by saying a country like Nigeria, which is also the largest crude oil exporter in the African continent, imports fuel into the country.YES we know this makes no sense. Unfortunately, it does. Nigeria has four national refineries that are barely functional because of the country’s poor planning and maintenance culture, and even more, our refining plants are aging while the pipelines linking these plants have lacked adequate investments and they are terribly unreliable to support uninterrupted domestic production and sadly enough as determined as the government are in ensuring that these refineries are repaired, some interest groups have taken up the habit of destroying these facilities thus Nigeria is forced to refine its crude oil resources outside its borders and then it imports the refined products, mostly from European suppliers, to satisfy the energy needs of its large population. WHO BENEFITS MORE FROM FUEL SUBSIDY? Now lets assume the governments spends an average of N40 to subsidize a litre of petrol that is bought by each Nigerian,it means for every 20 liters you buy, the government helps you to pay N800. But the truth is that the rich benefits more because in a month they buy thousands of liters to power their office, homes, cars and so on while an average citizen with a tight budget might just manage to buy 50litres in one month. Lets ask each other this question;Does it make sense for a government to spend over 1 trillion naira on fuel subsidy yearly to help the rich while lesser amount is marked for other infrastructures that would impact more positively on the average man? Now lets take a quick look at 7 advantages of subsidy removal: 1. IT REDUCES CORRUPTION IN THE DOWN STREAM SECTOR: According to the statement made by the former finance minister and coordinator of subsidy removal, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala. “ The removal of oil subsidy will drastically reduce corruption in the down stream sector.” Moreso, deregulation will also help to end the waivers enjoyed by powerful “cabals” at the expense of the Nigerian people...this needs no explanation. 2.PROVISION OF BASIC AMENITIES The Nigerian governments spends over 1 trillion naira on fuel subsidy each year and this has made it extremely difficult to provide other amenities that would impact more directly in the lives of the citizens. However, if half of the money spent oil subsidy is channeled to other sectors of the economy, Nigeria would have been better for it. Consequently, the money saved from subsidies will be used to improve infrastructure, building good roads and bridges, fund agriculture, pay higher salaries, improve education and health sectors. 3.REDUCTION OF GOVERNMENT DEBT According to the words of the former Central Bank Governor, Malam Sanusi, one of the long term benefit of the withdrawal of the subsidy is the reduction of government debt and at least help direct that debt to the finance of infrastructure that should create jobs and more inclusive growth. However, it is important to note that Nigerian government often borrow to enable it finance this oil subsidy so as to make the petroleum pump price affordable to a few rich Nigerians who operate or control some of the devices which actually consume the petrol. 4. TRANSFORMATION OF THE PETROLEUM SECTOR A lot has been said of corruption in this nation, and the time is now to effect the change we need. Reformation of the oil sector which is the life wire of the nation could take the lead. 5. INCREASE IN FOREIGN RESERVE AND SAVINGS With subsidy removal, Nigerian, government will get to keep more of the money raised from sales of its petroleum product and savings made on its foreign earnings, this will uplift the countries foreign reserves and greatly improves our ratings by international agencies. 6. ESTABLISHMENT OF MORE REFINERIES It is noted that since 2000, government of Nigeria had issued licenses for refineries, but none was been built for these reason. This is not unconnected to the financial and structure imbalance created in the huge sums, of money expended on petroleum subsidy. However, it is obvious that with subsidy removal, Nigerian government can now use the money saved from subsidy to build refineries which will inturn provide enormous opportunities for employments of our jobless youths. 7. MAKES WAY FOR TRANSPARENCY AND COMPETITION IN THE OIL INDUSTRY When petroleum subsidy which is rife with corruption and unhealthy practices is no longer there, transparency and healthy competition will return to the petroleum industry. Lets give the government a chance and make this sacrifice with hope that we will have a new story to tell.Yes we may see a sharp increase in the price of commodities and transportation but in a short while, we will see the positive outcome just as we now see in previously deregulated sectors. |
THe problem with GEJ led government was that they failed to sensitize the populace coupled with corrupt antisidents but right now we have come to understand that subsidy removal is the way out so that over 1trillion naira spent yearly on subsidy can be used to pay new minimum wage, aide gas flaring, invest in power generation, cut off corrupt carbals and finally end incissant fuel scarrcity. Imagine where 20billion is marked for rroad construction in a fiscal year and over 1trillion for subsidy. Our refineries are not allowed to function due to nigerdelta militancy but with deregulation of the downstream,it will be a great deal. Say YES to subsidy removal. #teamremovesubsidy. |
Reference:He said he is willing to negotiate but it is highly insensitive for these militants tto tow that hideous lane....if they like let them steal billions of crude to enrich themselves but subjecting innocent Nigerians to perpectual suffering by blowing up pipelines is insane and that does not communicate negotiation but war. |
Reski:your last line justifies the position of Nigerians who were against the move. |
Oil theft may be understood but blowing up pipelines is toal madness. This is not Jonathans era where billions of naira is paid monthly to militants. |
Akkord4gov:His story sounds real unil that part where he abscunded. If your hands were clean you would have walked home even if the whole armedforces were there so for running he has indicted himself. I was once accused of shooting someone and policemen came looking for me but i was not at home. When i got back and my neighbors old me,i went to the station by myself and walked into the office of the IPO and narrated wha happened. The next thing he said was "i believe you because you did not run" and i paid a litle sum as bail and went home almost immediately. I was only reporting at the station from time to time until the case was unraveled. So bro,sorry...me i no believe sey no be you kill ya wife. |
akeensbussy:You are chronically ignorant so sop showcasing your ignorance. You dont judge the legitimacy of a system by tthe approach of tthe participants. The greed of Nigerian traders as a result of economic demands have urned Nigerians tto easy preys. Many nairalanders have called me wanting to invest and the moment i tell them they should expect average of 10% monthly they back off because they expect more...then they go on to lose all their money and people like thatt start ranting about how dangerous fx trading is. even in sport beting, those who make money stake reasonably by choosing one or two matches and stake wiselyy but a typical naija person will pack 10 games and foolishly believes he can forcast the outcome of 10 games...how dumb. The ban on fx and sport betting by seun have made me conclude on his level of IQ and i advice him to leave that hole he is and get exposed. Bill gate gave millions of dollars to develop the online fx biz and some banks in Nigeria are also doing the biz and these organizations are not dumb. Nairaland is fast bcoming a joke and i will advice you to stop showcasing your shallow mindedness to a biZ you know nothing about. |
Ishilove:In that case lets just start reading thread topics and then draw conclusions. Im highly opinionated and i admit when i make mistakes but on this,i will continue o maintain that the title is excellent for the points i raised...i just pray that our youths develope the reading culture. Thanks. |
oyb:What is this one spewing? so in your mind you are making sense abi? oshisco.com i strongly believe that Seun, you and every other mental toddlers reading this should sit your ass down and think with your brains and get this message clearly. Im always quick to point out my age so that the teenagers or people in their 20s reading my writeups will come to terms with the fact that i have passed the age of reproach and i have seen things at 41. When i wrote this i did with 100% mental stability and when i gave that title i knew what i meant.... Ishilove is one nland lady i respect cos i sense she is matured but when she faulted the write up i knew something is wrong somewhere and i guess the same fauxpass was made by seun and many people who twisted the article so get this one more time... Domestic violence starts in one day and usually established after the second act either from the man or woman. My first and sixth point epitomizes my notion. A lady dates a guy who slaps her then she goes ahead to marry him please what do you make of that? love or madness? A lady willingly rains insults on a man to he point that he reacts please what do you say to that? Ok according to the 6th point,a man suddenly turns violent and you fail to report him to the police or leave the union abeg who is to blame? so which ever way you look at it you will see that ladies are 100% responsible for the domestic violence we see by either neglecting the signs, aggravating it or tolerating it. Im utterly disappointed at Seun for being so intellectually vulnurable to the extent of apologizing for having one of the best write up grace nland home page instead of shallow childish and vague contents asides those of national interest and im deeply appalled by the low IQ of as many nlanders who condemn this wite up. I will stop here |
bakynes:This is the thread Seun apologized to ladies about and removed it from front page titled."6 facts that prove that women are the main cause of domestic violence" below is the write up. *A man who beats a woman is a beast and do not deserve to live with humans but with fellow beasts in the jungle...No matter how provoked you may be as a man, please never raise your hand to beat your wife.* It is no longer news that many women have lost their lives through domestic violence and the more we try to put the blames on the menfolk the more we will continue to blind our eyes to the fact that indeed, many women are the cause of the domestic violence we see today because they fail to understand some important aspects of how most men are naturally wired and below are 6 facts that point to this... 1.Negligence: Yes this is one fact many ladies will not deny because there is no accidental character and the signs of a violent man would have been there . It is quite amazing that many ladies get beaten up by a guy they are dating and this guy will still go ahead and become their hubby and i keep wondering what these ladies were thinking saying i do to a guy who beats you up. Many ladies usually believe such guys will change but the honest truth is that a guy who beats you up while dating you may kill you when he becomes your hubby.RUN. 2.Sophistication:Many people will wonder what this has to do with domestic violence but it has a whole lot to do with it. Sophistication is the bane of today's woman and the number one reason why many ladies find it hard to get a man to settle down with. Many ladies are too sophisticated to come to terms with the fact that they are married, they still want to live a life of a spinster while married and these set of ladies will not hesitate to tell their hubby the need for him to help out in the kitchen, the need for him to cook his food and even take care of the baby and subconsciously, these ladies gradually bruise the ego of the man who may continue to stomach these things until he gets pushed to the wall and reacts in a violent way. No matter how highly placed or sophisticated you may be as a lady, please understand that you are a wife and a mother and you must learn how to joggle these roles without turning your hubby into a domestic servant...if he decides to help out please let it be his decision. 3. Misguided utterance: This is a very common fact among the women folk and it is so sad that many ladies do not even realize they are guilty of this because they just might believe they are making sense not knowing that they are bruising the man's ego and killing him bit by bit mentally and emotionally. Misguided speech sometimes come in a very subtle way from the lady who may have no clue. For instance a lady footing the bills telling her hubby that "she can not go out all day and still come home to please him sexually" or "he can not satisfy you sexually", or funny words like "you should be thanking GOD for having me cos there are better guys out there" bla bla bla common.... A man is an egocentric person and any word that bruises his ego could bring out the beast in him. 4.Infidelity:This account for many cases of domestic violence leading to death. Yes men cheat as well as ladies but as a lady please be extremely careful when it comes to sexual infidelity. Scientists have proved that the effect of hard drugs on human is the same effect a heart break gives. If you must cheat on your man or hubby please i advice you just break up with such first rather than staying in that affair and cheating because the resultant effect is always a dangerous one. 5.Use of abusive words:This is no doubt one reason why many gentle men have turned wife beaters. There are some women who can use their tongue to set a house on fire and you need to hear how some ladies speak to their spouses. Many ladies are very erratic in speech and it is not all men that are gentle or can walk away as men are always advised. Please ladies, learn to bridle your tongues to avoid stories that touch...be submissive,be humble.be calm in your speech and avoid getting confrontational because men hate confrontations...remember...not every man is a gentle man so try to always. maintain a status quo.Understand when to keep quiet to avoid heated arguments which usually leads to violent reactions from the man. 6.Gullibility:Yes many ladies are very gullible when it comes to handling domestic violence. There are some guys who just make it a crazy habit beating up a lady at any slight opportunity even if the lady exhibits an angelic nature. If a man beats you once, assume its a mistake but if he tries it again, please don't go back to your parents or waste your time reporting him to family members..go to the police immediately to report him and let him be invited to write an undertaken never to touch you again while you also maintain a proper decorum but if his madness persists, please leave that marriage or relationship immediately whether you have a child for him or not...it is better to remain single and happy than to lose your life.Gullible ladies who have listened to funny advices from family members to remain in a violent marriage for whatever reason are not 6 feet below....Be reasonable. Hope this makes sense. |
joek:Seun will come and advice you because he believes ladies are the victims...honestly to slap this Seun guy dey hungry me and i have been looking forward to slapping him since 2007. |
bibinwaka:As a lady you get sense pass Seun. |
koastar:Seun should come and answer the question. He believes ladies are victims but the story just made it clear that the man had been the victim for a long time but just one weak moment from the guy the world is now reading this. I had a sharp tongued ex that can use her mouth to kill a man...she would not mind running her mouth as she wants but for 12years i did not raise a finger to touch her even when she told me just a year into the affair that she prefers that a man beats her because she is sturbborn and sharp tongued. i tolerated for 12 good years until i lost it 3yrs ago and slaped her lap for insulting me and immediaely apologized but for where...she took pics of the red spot on her lap and sent it to my sister and mum and they all lashed ou at me not knowing how i tolerated 12yrs of verbal assault and despite my apologies to her she just held on to that. Seun apologized to ladies on my thread for my title...6 facts that pove that women are the main cause of domestic violence...and even removed the thread from fpage..how dumb and unreasonable. Now come and read this and apologize to me. I reiterated the need for men never to raise their hands to beat women yet stated clearly what should be avoided but its so fortunate that some people have a deep myopic mentality. |
tosinjay:Can you quote a scripture that says bettting is a sin? I dont bet or gamble but i hate it when i see people display arrogance and intellectual stuntedness such as Seun is displaying calling fx trading gambling. |
johnson232:Just ignore that guy and many others who never read beyond the title..little wonder why we have so many uneducated graduates these days. This is why i respect lalasiclala because he makes sure he reads tru a tthread before sending it to frontpage and there is no way he would have put this there if it was not ok...the best seun would have done was to suggest that the title be modified rather than take it off from fpage. This tthread is presently on over 10 other blogs and i even saw a blogger modify the title by adding "sometimes" which gave a calmer title. 6 Facts That Prove That Women Are Sometimes the Main Cause of Domestic Violence. |
ndcide:THAnks bro..my candid advice to seun is that he should calm down and use his head before he destroys nairaland. it takes nohing to give a developer money to create an interactive forum like this where people can relate without baseless archaic rules and i will advice he removes fx,sport betting and binary option from that list because those are legit business else he will only be making a huge mockery of himself and im even begining to wonder about his level of educaion cos no graduate will ever put that up. |
Doubleagent008:My guy im never agains constructive or even destrucive criticisms but i just love to set the tables straight and infact i hate it when people agree too much with my write ups but when it comes to this matter i need to let seun understand that he crossed the line for many reasons. He is myopic and egocentric with a totalitarian approach o a site people developed for him. look at his new rule 17 and see if is normal for an educated fellow in the 21st century to put that there despite the opinion poll. Who is he to ban sport betting and legitimate fx trading? The point is that Seun is gradually using his pride and myopism to destroy what he has worked so hard to built. |
cococandy:Obviously even Seun will eat his words the moment he sees this misguided comment from the ladies he called victims. You are one troll i have and will continue to ignore because you are uncultured. Real women who deserves respect from men dont go about trolling and cursing... |
onegig:If a lady wrote this i will understand but coming from a guy or apparently a boy calls for concern. Firstly im 41 no 40 and secondly you can send your CV o me and i will give you a job...you are indeed outrightly shallow minded and mentally docile to juxstapose a passion with joblessness. The crop of youths we have today are so dumb mentally judging from what comes out of their shitty cerebellum. Did you take ime to read that article or you just read the title like most people did? Apparently you need o read again before showcasing your shallow mindedness online. |
talk2alabama:Im no sorry o say that ever since i joined tthis forum in 2007 i have observed tthe myopic tendencies of Seun and till date he still exhibits ttthat same traits. 95% my threads have a unique way of drawing traffic and tha is because of tthe catchy titles i give them and the original tittle was...6 facts that prove that women are the main cause of domestic violence.... The moderator modified it by bringing the latter phrase to be the first which makes it look even more catchy which is aimed a drawing peoples attention. Seun has proved tha he knows absoluttely nothing about creativity else he will understand the need of raffic generation with topics... As for many Nigerian ladies,i weep inside for their level of intelligence cos many of them are inellectually dumb and this is unfortunate. My joy however is that the message has been passed. Do have a great day bro. |
YinkaDiva:shey you can now see how true this title is? If we look deeply i will be clear that the signs have always been there during courtship and there must have been a first time of that happening. Seun get this clear..you dont pay me a dime neither do i need a dime for writing top notch articles on romance section so try and mellow down on your totalitarian approach to issues and if not for my passion for writing i would have made up my mind to stop writing on nairaland. One of your rules states that each poster is responsible for whatever he or she writes and nairaland has no business in such opinion so just respect hat please and stop showcasing odoriferous myopism. Any humble person would have simply opined for a change in title but you seem to have this innate pride you need to work on. |
talk2alabama:Even Seun was blind to it so what do you expect ? |
