I keep wondering; Can you win a war against someone who is willing to lay down his own life? These guys are suicide Bombers and the only way we can overcome them is by using a non aggressive approach, |
Whatever the move GEJ makes, one fact i know is that he has good plans for this country but he almost allowed himself to get derailed by crazy advisers. So the best he can do now is to clean up his almost dented image and move in the right direction. Nevertheless, the yardstick i personally will use to judge his competence is the power sector which must be greatly improved before the end of the present dispensation. 4 yrs is long enough to give us steady power supply at least to a great extent. |
be more articulate crossman. Lets be objective and not dogmatic here. The teachings of ROR are very sound and inspiring but what we are saying is that IT IS NOT FREE AS THE PUBLIC ARE MADE TO BELIEVE BUT PAID FOR BY THE CHURCH MEMBERS AND PRINTED BY PASTOR CHRIS PRINTING PRESS WITH PROFIT MAKING MOTIVE. END OF STORY. GOD knows i have nothing aginst him making profits but the public should understand this fact. |
inedi:We need to understand the context of the termmScam the original poster meant. The message in the book is life changing and please we all need to understand that but the truth is that IT IS NOT FREE. Members pay for it and you need to see how serious the issue of Rhapsody books aquisition by members is taken so seriously even above the welfare of the members who pay for these copies. Ok let me bore you a little" I happen to be one of the Haven mebers which are known to be financiers of the big projects embacked upon by CEC and buying a specific number of copies on a monthly basis is a non negotiable duty of every member. Precisely in 2010 febuary, i was robbed in my apartment and good sum of money was stolen from me with lots of valuables. I shared this occurence with my fellow Haven members and not even one of them asked me afterwards how i fared but they were quick to remind me of my monthly pledge of a certain number of copies i usually buy monthly. Ok let me draw you further back. In 2001, i had a terrible accident which left me with a spinal cord injury and before then, i have been a strong member of same Haven giving good donations to foster the evangelism activities in the church but believe me, not even N100 was giving to me or any physical aid was so ever but shortly after i got back in shape and continued my membership, we were asked to donate hge sum to buy a car for the pastor of that branch. So sad. So when you see me write this way, don't think i am against the gospel the ROR conveys but believe me, these pastors which includes most of these so called pentecostal churches are very self centered and money driven rather than the word of GOD The ROR is been paid for by members and believe it or not, some profits are made from the printing which makes it a profit making venture so the scam in this is making the public believe its a free gift whereas members are COMPELLED to buy these copies in huge quantity. The point im making is this and please understand me: What are churches doing for the poor in their midst when we have pastors living in affluence? |
davidzfarm:My brother you are right. when it comes to giving, i love doing that and infact that is the ministry i operate in. As a giver, i love giving my tithe/offereings/seds in general to christian organisations involved in genuine humanitarian duties like the 700club/TBN and other cgurches really doing the work of the missionaries. I don't bother myself giving towards building bsiness centres in the name of Churches or to pastors who fly jets while members are so impoverished. The Bible says the poor we will always have amongst us nevertheless the bible encourages us to help the poor but look around you and see wat is going on inchurches. I am looking forward to seng a church that will be so commisted to helping the jobless in their midst giving them soft loans to start a reasonavle business but all they tell them is to give give and give. We see many innocent children dying due to lack of funds to do an expensive operation and we have churches with criminals as pastors all around. If every church in Nigeria operates a joint account with say 3 pastors as signatories depositing just 1000naira every month from every denomination branches scattered all over the country and using this money to fund critical medical operations of Nigerians who have no money and also start an empoerment programs to help the poor in starting a good business, i believe the world will be a better place. Please lets wise up, what we have in N igeria are criminals in the name of pastors charging a fee from people who want to worship for new year's eve service using over crowding as excuse GOSH! some Men of GOD are just criminals. |
I have been a strong member of the Haven in christ embassy before i left the church. I CAN SAY WITH ALL CONFIDENCE THAT R.O.R IS A BIG SCAM. Yes the teachings are very ok and i recommend that every one interested in understanding the indepth teachings of GOD should buy it but the truth behind the giving out of these books, i can say its a real sad tale. You need to know how the pastors and workers take this issue of rhapsody books so seriously that nothing else matters and not even the welfare of the members matter. The biggest scam is the independence day edition where members are compelled to buy so so much to give out to people whule Pastor chris enjoys the profits accrued from printing these books since the printing company belongs to him. I am not here to bring down any pastor but the truth must be said. |
Brilliant,revealing and thaught provoking. |
Giving tithe and offering to Churches is not really a bad idea but we must not neglect the poor amongst us. Many churches are just fond of neglecting the needy. I have always wondered why Churches can't come togther to have a dedicated bank account with maybe 3 signatries and deposit say 1k monthly which must be done by all branches of all the denominations in Nigeria as this will go a long way in helping the sick in need of urgent expensive treatments and maybe help people in genuine need of financial aid. But go to most churches today and all you hear is Bring!Bring! Bring! never assisting the poor. Everybofy wants to become pastors setting up churches ianyhow. GOD HELP US. |
I will be glad if we can have Buba Marwa an Bakare for president and vice respectively come 2015 |
This Lady is extremely pretty just like my wife. |
This is Madness |
I will be glad if Buba marwa and Pastor Bakare team up for president and vice respectively. I chose Marwa for president simply because of his Hausa origin and active governance while he was the Lagos state administrator and ofcurse Bakare needs no introduction. |

kushe:Seems you don't know your country enough. With GEJ price reduction, 60% of Nigerians are saying thank GOD and maybe 20% are still agitated. See friends, lets be reasonable. Even if we all know there was no subsidy in the first place, lets see what will come out of this new price regime. We are no longer spectators and we are very certain that there will be more revelations in weeks to come. What i am trying to drive home is that even if we will be paying extra N50 per litre asume actual per litre cost is N40, i believe the excess can be used to build more refineries as we now understand the rough estimate of building one refinery to be 1billionusd and create more infrastructures. We are wiser and more informed now so lets move ahead and stop been unecessarily adarmant and by the way, Labour and government are expected to work together on the new price regime which means there will be transparency in excess fund management. |
Lets face it. We all know there is a subsidy been paid by Feceral government which is as a result of gross incompetence and corruption over the years. We also know that the subsidy been paid can not be over 500billion naira even with increase in demand and never 1.3trillion plus as claimed by the federal government. We also know that what we have in nigeria government system is carbalocrazy and not democracy. In view of all these and to foster a way forward, N90 or N100 will be too much but we can manage. With N90 or 10n per litre, we will now understand that no subsidy is paid any longer and we now have added tax infused in the pricing to ensure we get infrastructures that ought to be a normal duty of a responsible government. We can't continue the protest by holding on to 65N even when we know that is the ideal stand, it is now our duty to ensure that the proceeds made from subsidy removal is judiciously spent, |
Another melodrama. |

Talking about Electricity supply. For me, i dont mind 400% increase because i am fed up. I spend not less than 6k every week fueling my Generators amounting to 24k monthly and i presently do monthly donation of N700 to PHCN for 8hrs supply every week. So 700 x 4 = N2,800 for stable supply of electricity. Abeg i will even pay N5000 saving about 20k. El Rufai is very correct. |
hmmm, i pray it will not end in deadlock and we may likely see a reduction of pump price to maybe N100 or lesser but i doubt N65. |
Brilliant points by El Rufai and the economist as well as Senator Tokunbo |

How true is this? |
uzowulu4me:Please pal i am very sorry to say this but i think you need to be a spectator on this forum rather than make a fool of yourself or maybe you are just looking for silly relevance here. I don't know whether some people are just mentally retarded or just decide to exhibit foolishness. Please show me in the history of the world where a president increases the price of an essential commodity by over 100% overnight. no one is saying don'r remove subsidy if at all there is any but do it gradually. You need to see how many folks are stranded right now unable to travel back to Lagos simply ue to this sudden madness of Jonathan. And by the way, is it a do or die affair? the people say revert back to 65N then give them what they want and forget the so called infrastructural development which may never come anyway even with N300 per litre. THIEVES |
For the very first time in my entire life as a Nigerian, i'm seing a very exellent policy been made by the CBN/Fed govt. This will encourage people to have a bank account, reduce theft cases to the tune of millions of cnaira and generally give total serenity to the business world. Nice one. |
Wait o, Wetin dey happin sef?, shey na by force? Give me i no want then keep am. You say you wan remove subsidy to helep masses and masses say dem no want subsidy removal then return plice back to N65 and dey look as masses say dem no want. Simple. Abi another tin dey inside? |
I saw this peice and it seem to make alot of sense, decided to share it with fellow nairalanders to see another angle to fuel subsidy removal debate. Comments are welcomed. Finally The Hidden Truth About Fuel Subsidy Comes Out No doubt, many Nigerians have not seen the facts about fuel subsidy this clearer before: On December 10, 2011, if you stopped at the Mobil filling station on Old Aba Road in Port Harcourt , you would be able to buy a litre of petrol for 65 naira or $1.66 per gallon at an exchange rate of $1/N157 and 4 litres per gallon. This is the official price. The government claims that this price would have been subsidized at, N73/litre and that the true price of a litre of petrol in Port Harcourt is N138/litre or $3.52 per gallon. They are therefore determined to remove their subsidy and sell the gallon at $3.52. But, On December 10, 2011, if you stopped at the Mobil Gas station on E83rd St and Flatlands Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, USA, you would be a able to buy a gallon of petrol for $3.52/gallon. Both gallons of petrol would have been refined from Nigerian crude oil. The only difference would be that the gallon in New York was refined in a US North East refinery from Nigerian crude exported from the Qua Iboe Crude Terminal in Nigeria while the Port Harcourt gallon was either refined in Port Harcourt or imported. The idea that a gallon of petrol from Nigerian crude oil cost the same in New York as in Port Harcourt runs against basic economic logic. Hence, Nigerians suspect that there is something irrational and fishy about such pricing. What they (Nigerians) would like to know is the exact cost of 1 litre of petrol in Nigeria. We will answer this question in the simplest economic terms despite the attempts of the Nigerian government to muddle up the issue. What is the true cost of a litre of petrol in Nigeria? The Nigerian government has earmarked 445,000 barrel per day throughput for meeting domestic refinery products demands. These volumes are not for export. They are public goods reserved for internal consumption. We will limit our analysis to this volume of crude oil. At the refinery gate in Port Harcourt, the cost of a barrel of Qua Iboe crude oil is made up of the finding /development cost ($3.5/bbl) and a production/storage /transportation cost of $1.50 per barrel. Thus, at $5 per barrel, we can get Nigerian Qua Iboe crude to the refining gates at Port Harcourt and Warri. One barrel is 42 gallons or 168 litres. The price of 1 barrel of petrol at the Depot gate is the sum of the cost of crude oil, the refining cost and the pipeline transportation cost. Refining costs are at $12.6 per barrel and pipeline distribution cost are $1.50 per barrel. The Distribution Margins (Retailers, Transporters, Dealers, Bridging Funds, Administrative charges etc) are N15.49/litre or $16.58 per barrel. The true cost of 1 litre of petrol at the Mobil filling station in Port Harcourt or anywhere else in Nigeria is therefore ($5 +$12.6+$1.5+$16.6) or $35.7 per barrel . This is equal to N33.36 per litre compared to the official price of N65 per litre. Prof. Tam David West is right. There is no petrol subsidy in Nigeria. Rather the current official prices are too high. Let us continue with some basic energy economics. The government claims we are currently operating our refineries at 38.2% efficiency. When we refine a barrel of crude oil, we get more than just petrol. If we refine 1 barrel (42 gallons) of crude oil, we will get 45 gallons of petroleum products. The 45 gallons of petroleum products consist of 4 gallons of LPG, 19.5 gallons of Gasoline, 10 gallons of Diesel, 4 gallons of Jet Fuel/Kerosene, 2.5 gallons of Fuel Oil and 5 gallons of Bottoms. Thus, at 38.2% of refining capacity, we have about 170,000 bbls of throughput refined for about 13.26 million litres of petrol, 6.8 million litres of diesel and 2.72 million litres of kerosene/jet fuel. This is not enough to meet internal national demand. So, we send the remaining of our non-export crude oil volume (275,000 barrels per day) to be refined abroad and import the petroleum product back into the country. We will just pay for shipping and refining. The Nigerian government exchanges the 275,000 barrels per day with commodity traders (90,000 barrels per day to Duke Oil, 60,000 barrels per day to Trafigura (Puma Energy), 60,000 barrels per day to Societe Ivoirienne de Raffinage (SIR) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and 65,000 barrels per days to unknown sources) in a swap deal. The landing cost of a litre of petrol is N123.32 and the distribution margins are N15.49 according to the government. The cost of a litre is therefore (N123.32+N15.49) or N138.81 . This is equivalent to $3.54 per gallon or $148.54 per barrel. In technical terms, one barrel of Nigerian crude oil has a volume yield of 6.6% of AGO, 20.7% of Gasoline, 9.5% of Kerosene/Jet fuel, 30.6% of Diesel, 32.6% of Fuel oil / Bottoms when it is refined. Using a netback calculation method, we can easily calculate the true cost of a litre of imported petrol from swapped oil. The gross product revenue of a refined barrel of crude oil is the sum of the volume of each refined product multiplied by its price. Domestic prices are $174.48/barrel for AGO, $69.55/barrel for Gasoline (PMS or petrol), $172.22/barrel for Diesel Oil, $53.5/barrel for Kerosene and $129.68/barrel for Fuel Oil. Let us substitute the government imported PMS price of $148.54 per barrel for the domestic price of petrol/gasoline. Our gross product revenue per swapped barrel would be (174.48*0.066 +148.54*0.207+172.22*0.306+ 53.5*0.095+129.68*0.326) or $142.32 per barrel. We have to remove the international cost of a barrel of Nigerian crude oil ($107 per barrel) from this to get the net cost of imported swapped petroleum products to Nigerian consumers. The net cost of swapped petroleum products would therefore be $142.32 -$107 or $35.32 per barrel of swapped crude oil. This comes out to be a net of $36.86 per barrel of petrol or N34.45 per litre. This is the true cost of a litre of imported swapped petrol and not the landing cost of N138 per litre claimed by the government. The pro-subsidy Nigerian government pretends the price of swapped crude oil is $0 per barrel (N0 per litre) while the resulting petroleum products is $148.54 per barrel (N138 per litre). The government therefore argues that the “subsidy” is N138.81-N65 or N73.81 per litre. But, if landing cost of the petroleum products is at international price ($148.54 per barrel), then the take-off price of the swapped crude oil should be at international price ($107 per barrel). This is basic economic logic outside the ideological prisms of the World Bank. The traders/petroleum products importers and the Nigerian government are charging Nigerians for the crude oil while they are getting it free. So let us conclude this basic economic exercise. If the true price of 38.2% of our petrol supply from our local refinery is N33.36/litre and the remaining 61.8% has a true price of N34.45 per litre, then the average true price is (0.382*33.36+0.618*34.45) or N34.03 per litre. The official price is N65 per litre and the true price with government figures is about N34 per litre (even with our moribund refineries). There is therefore no petrol subsidy. Rather, there is a high sales tax of 91.2% at current prices of N65 per litre. The labor leaders meeting the President should go with their economists. They should send economists and political scientists as representatives to the Senate Committee investigating the petroleum subsidy issue. There are many expert economists and political scientists in ASUU who will gladly represent the view of the majority. The labor leaders should not let anyone get away with the economic fallacy that the swapped oil is free while its refined products must be sold at international prices in the Nigerian domestic market. The government should explain at what price the swapped crude oil was sold and where the money accruing from these sales have been kept. We have done this simple economic analysis of the Nigerian petroleum products market to show that there is no petrol subsidy what so ever. In the end, this debate on petrol subsidy and the attempt of the government to transfer wealth from the Nigerian masses to a petrol cabal will be decided in the streets. Nigerian workers, farmers, students, market women, youths, unemployed, NGO and civil society as a whole should prepare for a long harmattan season of protracted struggle. They should not just embark on 3 days strike/protests after which the government reduces the hiked petroleum prices by a few Nairas. They must embark upon in a sustainable struggle that will lead to fundamental changes. Let us remove our entire political subsidy from the government and end this petroleum products subsidy debate once and for all. It is time to bring the Arab Spring south. This piece was written by Izielen Agbon Izielen Agbon He writes from Dallas, Texas. izielenagbon@yahoo.com He is former HOD, Petroleum Engineering Dept, former ASUU chairman, University of Ibadan, trained many operators in nation’s energy industry with practical experience on our practices and policy focus in the last 20yrs. |

When i see posts like this making the front page contents i regret registering on this forum. Seems so many people on this forum are either illetrates or very foolish in their reasoning. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD~ NO ONE IS REALLY AGAINST SUBSIDY REMOVAL BUT NOT OVER 100% HYKE. Ghana government only increased pump price by 15/30% and not over 100% as done by our visioness governments and ofcourse that was done after much consultation and not through deceit like our Callous president did after allaying our fears that the subsidy removal has ben suspended till April. So please i will advice anyone who knows he is not well informed or dogmatically daft to desist from making posys here abi na by force to post comments? Habba |
Its so disheartening when i read posts from some people and it amazes me how the mental faculty of some function. No one is anti Jonathan or against subsidy removal in the real sense. If this guy makes a good move then lets commend him and if he makes a wrong move we simply criticize him. The way the presiden removed subsidy was too harsh with over 100% increase in pump price and any body with the lowest IQ should see that this move is totally wrong. If he increased pump price by say N20/N30 after due consultation i believe there will not be any uproar and i must say that this move to sanitise the power industry would have come first before making any move to remove subsidy on pms. So please lets be reasonable and stop making bias posts about some people that are pro or anti GEJ policies. |
This matter tire me o. Goodluck says he swore to act in the people's interest and now the majority says no to subsidy removal then why remain adarmant? REvert to N65 and forget infrastructure if this will be the resultant effect. Abi another hidden agenda dey? |
