@ boladez: would you prefer the governor do nothing at all? whatever he does, it seems you'll still be annoyed in any case. ![]() |
desgiezd:personally, its annoying to hear someone like oziomatv being called Nigerian. It will only derail the thread. He will now develop some stupid attitude about how he's not Nigerian, like anyone cares what he wants to call himself. please stop making him think he's all that. Ask him why he insists on mixing with Nigerians on the internet and he wont be able to give a coherent response. |

DeepZone:you know how kobojunkie is now. The "junkie" in his user name isnt a joke. Na truth. The kobo part also reflects the state of his finances. Is it any wonder he has nothing good to wish for. Imagine someone only having kobo when others are having nairas, pounds and dollars. |
don't know why Nigeria had to be mentioned. Nigeria is in Africa, Georgia is in eastern Europe. I don't see the connection, unless there's something the authorities arent telling us. Or maybe its safer to mention Nigeria instead of one of their eastern European neighbors, who could take offence and enter the conflict as a Russian ally. |

@ Aiyetunje: it depends. There was a doctor friend who got lucky during his youth service years ago. He was posted to some governor's village and treated the governor's mother. The grateful governor dashed him a lot of things, including money. He really enjoyed his stay there. Some local governments pay well while others could care less. At the other extreme, another doctor was posted to one village where the local govt council neglected to pay his salary because they said they were at war with the neighboring village which also happened to be where the pay office (or whatever) was based. The other village (their enemies), didnt do the necessary paperwork required for the doctor to get paid. The doctor wasnt even from their side yet he was made to bear the brunt of their quarrel. Na only God saved that doctor from malnutrition. |
reindeer:Tell your friend to move to a metropolitan town after his youth service. Some people enjoy during their NYSC program while others suffer. I have some friends who made sure they werent posted to an out of the way place during their service year. One served in Lagos while the other served in Ibadan even though they're both Yoruba. Many other examples like that. And yes, most doctors work two or more jobs in order to make more money,. Nothing wrong with that. Same thing happens when they are abroad. They work two or more jobs- one regular job and one extra. However, if you're going around telling people that it'll all be bread and butter if only they can travel out, then its either you really dont like them or you dont know much about studying medicine overseas. There's no western country in the world where you can practice without first sitting for your board exams and once you get into the residency program, you can be worked to a frazzle for minimal pay. I cant drum this into people's ears enough. Nurses are far better off financially than doctors, especially in the US, until the doctor is able to complete his training and earn good money. And even then, much of your labor is for taxes, because you are taxed heavily on what you earn. |
ajadrage:as simple as that. Dont know why this basic fact is so hard for people to grasp. Every single successful country in today's world is a melting pot of various peoples. Its mainly Nigerians that carry their differences on their heads in perpetual mourning and whining. As if they're experiencing something no one has ever experienced before. Even all the so called tribes still have their own subdivisions. They arent united never mind all the lies people spout when they're trying to deceive themselves. I saw an old map in one of the foreign museums that nearly made my eyes jump out of my head. The depiction of the various Nigerian tribes would make many "nationalists" here gasp in shock. shior. |
nuzo:Stick to topic- this is about Russia, not Nigeria. You seem unable to concentrate on any topic unless Nigeria is mentioned. yet you say you hate the place. Pull yourself together for crying out loud. Rather than develop clinical depression and go on medication over the state of Nigeria, why not praise some country even if its Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, kazakstan or Iraq. If you can't praise anything at all then at least go out and get yourself a coke or something to take your mind off your problems. |
@ adrage: I'll have to print the article in order to digest it fully. |
she should have just left him with his uselessness instead of killing him |
either fight him and keep the baby or tell him I had the abortion then have the baby anyway. Either way, next time he opens his mouth to talk about anything at all, na big wahala be that. |
There are too many Nigerians abroad. They better stay there and not come back to use up the resources at home. they should just continue sending money abeg. Lets assume one guy left for example. His wife joined him and they now have five kids as well. Thats two people who left, but now returning as seven (like jacob returned to Isreal). Now multiply this by millions and you see we've got a problem. |

@ OP: actually, the question you should be asking is can you get a Camerounian passport in addition to your Nigerian one. Just in case there's some benefit to being Camerounian. |
DeepZone:Most Fulani speak the general lingua franca of wherever they settle, but they also have their own language called Fulfulde. A few outsiders can speak it, but not many. I did use to know a Yoruba woman who spoke their language fluently. And if you go to kwara, many of the Fulani there speak very fluent Yoruba. So most Fulanis probably speak hausa, and interact in the language, up north. Kanuris speak their own kanuri language. However, I guess most northerners can communicate in hausa regardless of tribe. |

Mashed Potatoes: Ingredients: potatoes, milk, butter/margarine, water, salt to taste.
[li]Dice and cook potatoes in water.[/li]

[li]When soft, add milk and butter. Amounts optional but the more milk, the better the taste. Dont overdo it however. Butter helps the fluffiness.[/li]

[li]mash all the ingredients together, stirring constantly. (like when making yam pottage).[/li]

[li]Season to taste. (with salt, black pepper etc. Could also be optional).[/li]
serve with ready made gravy or else make your own. Gravy: I generally just buy ready made since there's a brand I particularly like. Here are some recipes though. EASY GRAVY 1 1/2 c. milk 3 tbsp. flour 3 tbsp. drippings 1 tsp. salt Dash of pepper Shake half of the milk with the flour, salt and pepper. Stir into drippings and add remainder of milk. Cook, stirring constantly until thick and bubbly. Then cook 2-3 minutes longer. Makes 1 1/2 cups. http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1626,146187-254207,00.html drippings are the thick stock left over after cooking meat. Could be chicken, beef, turkey, etc. The bottom of the pot, so to speak. http://www.recipezaar.com/36279 |
reindeer:where is this doctor friend of yours in Nigeria? Is he a youth corper? that figure is well below the N50,000 a month my friend was paid close to ten years ago. Advise your friend to relocate to somewhere like Port harcourt, lagos, Ibadan or some other metropolitan town. If he's done with his youth service. And start residency ASAP, unless he travels out. |
I wonder oh. I've never heard a sermon on pirated movies. |
this is why the military has been able to rule Nigeria for so long. Nigerians underestimate them and ignore the fact that these guys receive top notch training from India, the UK and other countries. when a child provokes an elder, silence on the elder's part doesnt have to mean weakness. ![]() |
I think the problem is people who have Fulani blood, always want to identify with their Fulani heritage (especially when it comes to politics) , but at the same time they're in a quandary because its rather hard to proclaim yourself Fulani when you look more like your other tribe. The Fulanis have a very distinct look. And for example, you rarely see an overweight rural Fulani because their diet is not fattening, they have a lean look and they're very active. Cant say the same for the town ones, who are mainly mixed. The Fulani themselves seem to have attempted to find a compromise for this issue of intermixing and intermarriage, by labelling some parts "hausa Fulani". That way you know such people are mostly part hausa, part Fulani or just generally intermingling. |
DeepZone:Abacha is originally Kanuri though he was born in kano. Kanuris are distinct from Hausa, but Yorubas tend to group all of them together. They're majorly in Borno state (lake Chad). Sokoto is on the other side, and traditionally, used to have some rivalry with the Kanuri empire. They (the Kanuri) blocked Usman dan Fodio when he was conquering northern Nigeria. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanem_Empire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sokoto_Caliphate Babangida is Nupe, I think. Rumor has it his mom was originally from Ogbomoso, but who knows. Atiku seems to be Fulani, though maybe a town one. The town Fulanis tend to be easily confused with Hausa, since there's a lot of mixing between them. |
DRANOEL:my point is where are you placing all the Yoruba people in kwara? Did they all somehow vanish mysteriously, and have my kwara friends been lying to me about being Yoruba when they are actually Fulani and Sudanese. The Yoruba towns in kwara that I've been to, seemed Yoruba enough to me. Fulani who speak excellent Yoruba still don't call themselves Yoruba. Being mixed is a different matter entirely from what you're saying here. Wasnt babangida himself rumored to be from Chad? If somebody's great great grandfather migrated out of his birthplace and settled permanently in a different town, then that's the town that's of primary relevance to the descendants. Anyway, post links to prove what you're saying. You can skip Gambari's own. I've never heard of him being Yoruba anyway. |
DeepZone:Yoruba people dey eat bitter leaf nah. No be ewuro them dey call am? E don tay since I taste bitter leaf sef. That thing is very sweet. |
@ OP: are you the person involved here? I read this story in the paper yesterday. Didnt know people could be permanently banned from going to the US. I agree- you should appeal. |
this is why perpetual bad belle paralyzes the owner. take this site for instance. Nigeria has epileptic power supply. Assuming the site owner decided he wouldnt be able to do anything until the electricity situation improved, there'd be no Nairaland. Instead, he utilized what was available and went ahead anyway. Or lets say silverbird galleria decided nothing works in Nigeria, therefore there's no point opening a cinema. Whose loss would be greater- the average movie watcher, or silverbird owners who would have lost millions in potential revenue. As they say, heaven helps those who help themselves. You can limit yourself by the words coming out of your mouth. ![]() |
I tire oh. ![]() bra nko? any type of bra thats a sin? |
ow11:all this one na long story. Would you take your young male child to that church? |
@ Dranoel: maybe there are even no Yoruba at all in kwara? all of them could be Fulani and Sudanese. ![]() |
naijaking1:lecture yourself, plz. The captain assumed they meant juju. saying something appears magical, doesnt mean I think juju is involved. Some naija peeps no go kill me with their naija interpretation applied to everything. ![]() |
