Christianity Etc › Re: Who Is A Pagan And Idol Worshipper? by tpiah: 4:55pm On Jun 15, 2009
Pastor AIO:
. . . and a pagan is literally someone who lives in the countryside. What we would call, in nigeria a Bush man. Ara oko in yoruba. That is was then used to refer to non christians is an extension of it's meaning.

By reading the OP you will be able to gather that the meaning of idol is being extended to mean any human construct. Basically an Idol worshipper is someone who worships something that he has constructed. This would include conceptual constructs.
the NORMAL meaning of idol is something constructed with human hands and worshipped.

If you or the OP want to include a symbolic representation feel free to do so.

The group’s spokesman, Jomo Gbomo warned FIFA in the e-mail: “We will want to use this opportunity to advice FIFA to have a re-think about Nigeria hosting the under 17 world cup tournament at this time, as the safety of international players and visitors cannot be guaranteed due to the current unrest.
havent I said there are non-Muslim Talibans in Nigeria? huh

From Muslims rioting over Nigeria hosting the Miss World competition to this one.

Nigerians should stop deceiving themselves and look at their nature and history from a new angle.

Christianity Etc › Re: Who Is A Pagan And Idol Worshipper? by tpiah: 3:07pm On Jun 15, 2009
an idol worshipper is someone who worships idols that were physically made and created by human hands.

Or is something that can be seen.

If you need more explanations let me know.

@tpiah

Same reason you're calling yourself tpiah.
tpiah has no Yoruba meaning.

Besides, who knows if that decision you took some 5 years ago will go down well twenty years from now or that education you seem so sure you've acquired will earn you the much sought after proverbial golden fleece.
Higher education is an investment for the future, not for the present.

Its never too early to plan for life at 60.
Politics › Re: What Exactly Is Nigeria's Population? by tpiah: 2:45pm On Jun 15, 2009
Abagworo:
Funny!funny!nigeria is not up to 90 million.i was involved in osun-ifewara in atakunmosa.the figures were inflated 100%.infact we were given target figures that one must meet before being paid.my friend who served in katsina told me same.in the entire country, target population was given prior to the census. We can use school enrollment and registered business to do random estimate but the actual population of nigeria can never be determined anytime soon.
what's the exact population and demographics of Osun state? huh Rhetorical question.

@ topic

nobody knows for sure. And from time immemorial, Nigeria has always had extremely porous borders.

i slept with a guy i hardly know and after everything he gave me a large amount of money,i took it.does that make me a prostitute?
I should think so, especially if the man is a stranger.

He could also be trying to introduce you to the hooker lifestyle. Getting you hooked, as a matter of fact.

Did he leave the money on the side table or just handed it to you? Wee bit of difference though the same overall perspective.
Politics › Re: No Native Doctor Section On Nairaland Why? Are We Not Africans? by tpiah: 1:17am On Jun 15, 2009
you can start a thread somewhere listing and explaining the various gods eg orunmila, sango, ogun, amadioha, yemoja, and so on, as well as their personalities and peculiarities.

Like the oyibos do with their greek, roman or scandinavian mythology.

and while you're at it, explain the logic behind money rituals and things of that nature. Paraphernalia associated with native doctors.

Unless you're just trying to advertise some particular native doctor skills, in which case is your thread/request more suitable for the health section.

whats wrong with furthering your education? Especially since you dont want to get married yet. or you could look into business/establishing a company.

and why are you calling yourself ijapa? Any reason? huh
Politics › Re: No Native Doctor Section On Nairaland Why? Are We Not Africans? by tpiah: 12:18am On Jun 15, 2009
if you people want to start listing your different tribal gods AGAIN as a different form of tribal bonga bonga, then why not start your threads in the tribalism section.

Is the native doctor religion too big to discuss in the religion section? There are already different threads on Ifa, witches, mammy wata, money making juju rituals, masquerades, satanists and Ogboni. This present topic big pass? huh

All the 400+ tribes in Nigeria should start selling their native doctor wares and lets see them.

I believe it should be the duty of the moderators to identify such posts and delete them with a warning to any offending poster.
the moderators are only here to "protect" their own group's interests. These interests are tribal, religious, or some other social phenomena. The rules they enforce are for their own convenience, not others unless those others are their friends or "obligatees".

So expecting them to have an "unAfrican" attitude is really hoping for too much and very unrealistic.

A leopard cant change its spots regardless if its a moderator or whatever.

As Africans, we have to be aware of our own natures and stop being so surprised at what goes.

The internet is a powerful tool and thats why people are paying attention to what goes on there, and also bringing their agendas to the web.

From what I've seen, I'm not sure there's a peaceful way to stop tribalism. Just like there was no peaceful way to stop racism.
