The rule of the thumb is that you switch off your engine on any standstill that exceeds 60 seconds. That way you'll be able to preserve your precious fuel.
I don't think you have experienced Lagos traffic. If you have you would understand why that rule is ineffective. First of, all the cars for road go chance you for front finish the whole time while you're busy starting the car and putting it in gear. Also, God help you and your car battery is not 100, maybe when your battery runs down from repeated cranks starting and switching off you'd know the feeling..lol

See? This is what I mean when I say most Nigerians have taken an oath to be serially unfortunate in life and so truly deserve whatever ill that befalls them. You would have expected that with the current pulse of the nation, that disappointing chimp and his cohorts would have been pelted with stones, and not even pure water (cos it is expensive now).

But what do you see? Hopeless runts jostling for junk.

Shame!
TravelRe: What Is Your Cost Of Transportation Daily From Work To House by Treadway: 9:00am On Feb 02, 2024

If you're spending 52k to fuel your car every week, it means that one kazeem (road side mechanic) has stolen your catalyst. Better take that car to a mechanic to get another one so as to reduce your fuel consumption.

You should not be spending more than 45k per month (not per week) on fuel. Let me use the Lexus RX350 2010 to explain. It's fuel tank is 65 liters. And with a full tank, it can cover up to 630 kilometers.

So if you buy fuel at 605 per liter X 65 liters = about 40k.

If the distance from your house to your place of work is 15km, it means you'll be covering a distance of 30km per day.

630km ÷ 30km would give you 21. Meaning you should be able to cover 30k for 21 days. If you remove weekends you'll see that a full tank should be enough for you for one month.

And mind you I'm using a V6 engine to calculate this. It would be much lesser if it's a 4 plug engine.

Also, try to avoid buying your fuel in bits, today you buy 10k, tomorrow 5k, next tomorrow 8k...if you buy fuel that way you'll be cheated cos the attendant would just be selling you air instead of fuel.

Just wait until your fuel gauge drops to "E" then fill your tank to the brim. When I was using my former car (muscle) a filled tank can carry me the whole month. Cos where I stay to VI was less than 15km.
why you no come factor in Lagos traffic for this your calculation.....lol

when we say y'all are not deep thinkers it will seem like insult, when it isn't.

If you are in the garri value chain as a farmer or distributor you will sell cheap cos you don't import cassava abi? Let's even say you don't recognize some of the fertilizer used is imported, as a farmer or distributor will you only eat garri, or you will also go to the market to buy rice, beans, meat? Are the prices of those ones also cheap? personal transport costs nko, cheap? Your children school fees nko, cheap? Your rent nko, cheap? Clothing and shoes nko, cheap? Peradventure the person come get dreams to buy generator, or fridge or television, all those things nko, cheap? Where do you reckon he would earn/make the money to pay for all those??

Thinking deep is easy o, all you have to do is not stay on surface level.

Here is a guide that can help you in future... you ask yourself, how much deeper can I think this thing through?

You seem to have a weird fascination with draconian and heavy-handed tactics. I recall you were the one also justifying hamas and vilifying US.

Definitely at some point you benefited from the dorm account balances you were referring to fund your travels. Speculation exists the in every sector in a free market economy. Naira has shown a high level of instability since APC took power, and the current speculative activity reflects the poor handling of the foreign exchange situation by the current and past presidents. The current speculative activity is the result and not the cause of naira's instability.

Also, do not assume everyone operating a dorm account is doing so for speculative purposes. If businesses project that they will have to buy FX at a higher rate to fund their activities in the future, it gives them a high incentive to lock in prices by buying FX now so they can hedge against FX losses in the future.

Obj and GEJ managed to keep the exchange stable and speculators at bay, the chicago accountant may go to them to learn one or two.

Why are you so bitter as if you are from the sadEast part of Nigeria.

Every presidential candidate promised to remove the subsidy and regularised the Dollar so that the forces of Demand and Supply can determine the rate rather than the CBN wasting Billions of scare dollars to defend the imaginary rate that we've been using since 2009. Emefiele+Buhari later made if worse.

Tinubu got the job he campaign for, so the bulk is on his desk!

However, The elite citizens have also moped up every available dollars save/sit idle in the bank while the industrial economy that we want to revive is crying for need.

We have created an unnecessary artificial scarcity, thereby contributing to the problem, but we all want to blame the Govt.

As at November last year, over $29billion is currently sitting idle in all domiciliary account across the country, yet we dey cry say no dollars. WHY?

Why should we dollarised our economy for non productive adverture at the expenses of our local economic drive and the mases who dont have the opportunity to edge thier naira to save in dollars.

If possible, the Govt should just "borrow" all those idle dollars cool temporary and return it when the economy is stable...but I doubt if they have "Political Will" as most of the politicians are also culprits.

So Mr Thread, your bitterness will only gives you HBP if you don't disect the real issue without sentiment and emotion.
I'm not bitter, on the contrary I'm smart just like the horde of people holding the dollar, a concept you couldn't understand even if it hit you in face. So I'll leave you be in your wanton delusions and ignorance.

Last week I created a thread talking about how my japa plans have been crushed due to the increase in dollar.

Many adviced me to invest in dollar, this was the advice they gave me months ago but I did follow through because I wasn't sure.
My last thread hit front page and 90% of the comments were advising me to invest in dollars, one even quoted that in the past 10 years, the dollar haven't fallen but it increases every year.

One even called me a weak minded person and I am scared to take risks.
After everything I thought to myself, since so many people felt this dollar will keep on rising, maybe I should invest afterall life is all about risks.

Well guess what, dollar have decreased, I invested 3M in buying dollars and now in today exchange rate. I have 2.6M now and I either cash out now or hope it will increase.

Right now, I am very angry.
Those giving me advice should come and contribute the 400k for me o

Another thing, do you think the dollar will increase or should I just cut my loses.
I am so tired 😫
hope you've been reading the news. I remember how you threw away money cos you were listening to 'hopists' rather than listening to realists who were giving you sound advice based on data. I bought almost 2k dollars around the time you bought yours and I'm still holding.....

I have been seeing similar comments. Please what magic do we expect anyone in power to do to salvage the situation? I believe the path he has chosen is the best out of the hard choices available. Things may be hard now but in my opinion, we will come out better.
wrong

Just a clueless person who decided to toe a clueless path earlier toed by the clueless cow-herder and has only succeeded in fucking things up for everybody. Buhari removed subsidy and floated the naira in 2015/2016. This exact thing happened. That was why the dollar moved then from 150/160 to the 350/360's.

Subsidy returned innit? Dollar rate worsened innit? We didn't come out better innit?

Fast forward to 2023, Mr Bola THUBV decided to do same thing, and even worse so, at the same damn time.

Subsidy currently still being paid innit? (Estimated to be about 200-300/litre) Dollar rate worsened innit? How we gonna come out better, when everybody with sense including me is holding the dollar so I don't get swiftly ruined?

YOU DONT REMOVE SUBSIDY AND FLOAT THE NAIRA At THE SAME TIME IN OUR PECULIAR SITUATION. THAT IS MADNESS.

In less than ten years they have made the value of the naira diminish X10. I didn't give a bleep about abroad in 2015, didn't give a bleep about abroad in H1 2023, but I MUST give a bleep about abroad now, whether I like to or not, cos the main problem now is everyone has lost confidence in the naira. The jig is up, and the only way out is that we become a producing economy, which is not possible at this current time and in this current environment.

Bola THUBV has hit the iceberg. The end was inevitable from then on. Like some have said before, Nigeria is about to be the largest prison on earth...and the majority of those who will be stuck there utterly and thoroughly deserve the things that will swallow them.

Nigerians generally want to be oppressed. The way we wholeheartedly submit to oppressors and attack those who care about us is alarming. See now, for more than 8 years of Fulani herders going around and killing people, nobody has protested against it. But if it was Goodluck Jonathan that coughed, people would be on the street. If Peter Obi became president and 100th of this happened, everybody would have been on the street. Cowardice is the problem here. And cowardice is the main expression of ungodliness..
I was just venting on this same topic this morning with my wife. I have never seen such a congregation of spineless, directionless cowards. This morning I was angry and venting about NYSC. Now imagine that useless scheme that has lost its usefulness, still ongoing simply because the spineless parents can't unite to say NO. You train a child from baby to an adult graduate, and then send same off to probably end up dead in a car accident to or from one useless state, kidnapped OR they get butchered in some useless state. The ones that are not killed, kidnapped or maimed basically just waste one year of their lives and youth. Imagine if 90% of parents just agreed not to send their wards for NYSC, the scheme would die the death wey e suppose don die since, but NO. They still fall in line and the stupid ones who end up losing their kids, realise a little too late that they did indeed have a choice, and if they had exercised that choice maybe their ward would still be alive. I can't for the life of me understand how a congregation of this much people time and time again only seem to agree to unite to remain subservient, to remain caged and hopeless, rather than unite to be free, to chart a new course or change a terrible status quo. Just look at the last elections, we have the power, but we rather use the power to stay in shackles, to by our own selves limit our choices and potential.

The Nigerian people amaze me. Smh

The naira died when the so called 'expert' came in and foolishly followed the exact footsteps of the cow herder, but even worse cos he did both at the same time, and now has failed on both ventures.

Removal of subsidy and devaluation of the naira at the same time! Today, subsidy remains, and the naira is toilet paper. Grandstar hope you also remember our convo last year. You HOPED a seasoned expert in the person of the CBN gov would arrest the inflation and downward spiral of the naira. Hope we can now see that it isn't even top on their list, if at all there is a list.

Buhari did same in 2015/2016 and everyone including Dangote lost money. Ain't it madness to think that y'all would expect smart people to lose money again thru the exact same misadventures a second time?

Who with his head screwed on right would keep their money in naira since the decisions of June 2023? Patriotism be say make I allow govt ruin me and make me poorer ba? Esp a govt that I'm convinced is doing this on purpose to ensure Nigeria remains the poverty capital of the world, so they can have their way with the poor easily.

Lol. Virtually everyone who has even a little means is holding the dollar cos we don't want to get burnt. The naira is dead and gone. Only a miracle can reverse it, the miracle being that we suddenly become a booming exporter earning a lot of Forex, but how many years/decades do you reckon that will take?
