jesmond3945: yes it is still very much a lab thing unless you are doing gis or remote sensing were you can do some programming. A country being rich in mineral resources might need geologists but right now western countries are cutting down funding on anything exploration and going renewable so nobody needs them. Your marine geologist is what he is a marine scientist and not actually a full geologist. They are asking for his help because he veered into full blown data analytics which still IT. Not actually a full geologist? I give up. |

jesmond3945: we are saying the same thing. because of he goes to study geology he would end up in the lab with samples. Geology is good in countries with huge mineral deposits. How many countries in the west care about it. when they are even cutting funding due to climate change We ain't saying the same thing!! My point is you still think that geology is done in the lab!! My marine geologist friend has never been to the lab in ages!! A country being rich in resources doesn't equate to them having renowned geologists!! My friend is did his masters in a low resource country, see geologists all over asking for his help in analysing their geological data. It's all based on your determination. |

jesmond3945: only gis and remote sensing which is not even in demand in obodo oyibo. infact geology has been struck out from SOC, UK my Geostatistics friend would seriously beg to differ. He is flying with his marine geology Msc. If you are a geologist, and you can program, demand for your services will shock you. They are still in demand but just no longer in the conventional sense. Nowadays it's no longer about analyzing samples in the laboratory, the question is how good is your modelling and programming? And what geological problems can you solve with them? |

I have been in a similar situation as the op a few times. I have a very good friend who girls can't seem to get enough of. Dude was actually a blind bat to women till I showed him the light . Once I introduce my girlfriend to him and she starts falling for him she becomes instantly useless to me!! Some will even compare the dude to me to my face, trying to make me feel like shit because he looks richer than me! Instantly I call my man to let him know another meat is ready for him. Women!! Many of them are brainless!! They see mansion, fine car, success and they start looking at you like you're worthless. Not knowing that what they are seeing is nothing compared to what they have. Dude, call you guy, settle with him and leave that girl. A girl who loves you will put you first no matter what. You will meet her. |

philip0906: Someone clearly used your head to play tinko, yet you claim she's seflessly loving? Does that make any sense to you? Used me how?!! The girl is naturally kind at heart. I don't say that compliment lightly. No pretence whatsoever!! She can go the extra mile for people she cares about without expecting any favour in return. If not for her olosho mindset, I would have locked her down. I know many good-girl-oloshos who are happily married!! Their blind husbands are very happy. She was just unlucky I found out. Naturally good girls are scarce!! Talk more of the olosho free ones....I don't even know if they exist. Next time I meet a girl like her, I will calmly do what most men do these days, take her one corner and tell her to start planning her retirement before we go anywhere in the relationship. |

What she didn't have in looks she made up in character. Girl was so loving I never felt the need to cheat despite being surrounded by beautiful women in my base at the time.
Then she mentioned something about her HOD always giving her all her exam scripts days before her exams, I was like why would he do that?
Till there was an urgent need for her to spend one week with her uncle, and I shouldn't call her during that period else the man would report her to her parents.
Doing the maths I realized: Uncle = HOD!!! That's why baby girl is on first class!!!
I removed her from mind, she tried to use sex to rope me back (many of them always do that) without success.
It pains me because I still haven't met a girl as selflessly loving as her. |

Medical doctors worldwide has never required PhD for teaching clinical medicine. Not even in in the US, UK or other climes.(except in in university in Uganda where they award PhD automatically when you complete your fellowship. The fellowship programme which spans 5 to 10yrs is the only requirement worldwide to become a professor in medicine In those countries you mentioned, there is an emphasis on research with or without a PhD. Nigerian consultants have never felt the need to research, they all feel work experience quantifies as research. The NUC is trying to nip this thinking in the bud by insisting on research experience via the PhD route. Only place the NUC goofed is insisting on using only the PhD, they could just insist on qualified teachers having specified number of top research publications before being qualified as teachers |

bamdexfarms: Nice write up, however some of your points are not valid anymore. 1. The current amount for blocked account has increased to 10,500€. 2. Houses in East Germany are cheaper and more affordable. However lesser jobs. 3. It's very important that you learn German even before you arrive here. Learn it up to A1 level at least else you may be frustrated. Most of the less stressful and lucrative jobs may require you to speak German to a certain level. 4. If you have a choice, avoid East Germany. Blocked account money has increased!!! |

This is ridiculous!!!!! Are we actually disputing the merits of getting a PhD as a lecturer?!
People arguing really need to read and see how it is done in the developed world.
Someone here said the hands on experience they get while working is enough? Seriously?!!!!!
So someone teaching a subject for many years, is better equipped to teach about it than another who is renowned for his research on the same subject? |

Erudite190: The Race has been Set, To everyone that has gotten the success mail/sms, you have been called to become a better person to yourself, your family, community and our dear country, Nigeria. I urge you to always remember the promises you made to yourself and your God while struggling for this wonderful opportunity; don't throw any single one of your promises away in the process...a brief reflection, at intervals, on the days of little beginning is very important on a man's journey to greatness.
To those that didn't get it (even if some people might still be called tomorrow/Monday), the best you could give yourself right now is to sit up on your chair and redesign your plans, because the race is more fierce on you. I mean do it right this moment that you're still angry, don't wait until tomorrow, exhaust that energy of anxiety on your diary or laptop, and when you're done writing, save it permanent somewhere and go to bed. Wake up tomorrow and start working on whatever you have genuinely designed from now till the next 6months and see what would become of it. Don't give a damn to people who will start telling you how bad the country is and how you can't make it here or elsewhere; work with confidence and courage, and don't let hope off your mind at any moment. You definitely have learnt something very important during this process, which certainly will catalyse your progress in whatever you would engage yourself henceforth. Go and make exploits somewhere else because you're born to be great...
Meanwhile, congratulations to all the successful ones, and congratulations to you that will take on a new direction right from this moment. May God bless us all.
Finally, @Sir Jarus and any other persons that might have good contribution to this serious case. My friend got this job, but he has left to Germany for his MSc, right now he is in serious confusion, whether to come back and take the job, or to reject it and continue his MSc programme. NNPC is his dream place of work, which makes the whole stuff more complicated, if it were to be any other offers outside NNPC, he wouldn't have given the idea of coming back a serious thought. Please Jarus and the rest, your well thought professional advice...thanks in anticipation. He has to come back!! No choice. NNPC is a door to the industry. Even after the MSC he will still be searching for a way in. Come back grab it, spend a few years getting the necessary skills, then leave for a better offer (Canada preferably). I know others that have followed this route and are doing very great!! It is not everybody's destiny to be a civil servant for the rest of his life. |

obailala: Your much touted English skills seem to be failing you by the second. Efcc has already said the picture isnt their office and that it's a fake and misleading picture. The efcc doesnt even have to disprove anything cos there's no evidence that that is their office. How exactly do these emotion-driven outbursts on this thread "its a lie! Its a lie" prove that the picture is efcc office?
Like I said before, I'm not an efcc staff and have no benefit fighting for them (cos I know that's what your brain thinks, you see everything as an 'us vs them' battle). I wasnt defending anybody in my earlier post, I was only expressing shock at how humans like yourself have replaced common sense with emotions and sentiments.
It's meaningless to just post a picture of a detention centre and claim it is efcc office, and then start asking efcc to disprove it. It's even more meaningless and ridiculous when a mob of people jump in and start saying, "yes! It is truly efcc office, they are lying!" The bolden here!! Concluded there is no evidence means they don't have to defend. Hence why I posed: WHAT IF SUSPECT RELATIVES IDENTIFY THEM FROM THE PICTURE? You jumped the gun here. |

obailala: But that's exactly what I'm saying. The picture doesnt prove anything, so it will be thrown out in court. This picture could as well be a SARs or DSS or police detention centre; nothing ties it to efcc besides the word of mouth of one fellow who took a picture. Overflowing emotions dont win cases. I am saying you are also jumping the gun by saying it doesn't tie to EFCC when there is also nothing to prove that assertion. You are doing that which you are accusing others of doing. Well, it's up to the suspects in the picture to tell their story. Till then, cheers. |

obailala: I wasnt defending anyone; too bad you couldnt figure that out despite your self acclaimed English prowess. Why should I defend inhumane treatment of people by rogue officials?
I was only pointing out the folly in asking Efcc to provide evidence that the picture wasnt their office. #CommonSense101 - You cant accuse a person and then turn around and start asking them to provide evidence. The accuser should have provided something more implicating than a random compound picture; that way the efcc wouldnt be able to deny. But the EFCC hasn't disproven it as a "random compound picture". You see your folly? You're carrying a blade not realizing it is pointing at you. |

obailala: Funny how so many people are asking the EFCC to show a real picture of their office/detention as proof. That's such a childish and dumb request, the EFCC can simply provide a picture of a nice looking serviced apartment and claim that's their office.
When a person makes an accusation, the onus is on the accuser to provide evidence that proves his accusation is real, and not the other way around. Its only when the accuser has provided implicating evidence that the accused may be obliged to respond meaningfully. This one defended and attacked with two paragraphs without knowing it. People and English. |
