You are right some people (minority do this due to beliefs. It i illegal though if you prevent someone getting medical attention due to belief eg a parent not allowing his child to be treated. If that child dies you will be charged with manslaughter. There is a case that happened recently in Spain and the parents are in custody. NaLaugh: |
You are right. I will also add mutual respect between husband an wife. If they both have mutual respect for each other and love each other as you said then there would be no situation of husband feeling like he cannot control or wife being rude. Strong and open communication between both is also key. Strahovski1: |
yea depends on where he is. As has been said already on the thread saying where he is based will yield you more specific answers. Regarding Air Maroc, best to call them to ask how much it will cost. FreeWorld23: |
Depending on the country he is residing in, isn't it just easier for him to buy the food stuff there? Most major cities in America and the UK have lots of Africa/Caribbean stores and even in London you have all these Asian stores that have started stocking African/Nigerian food stuff. FreeWorld23: |

Will probably be cheaper and less stressful than trying to send food from Nigeria. FreeWorld23: |
Iran did not thrive during the sanctions, their economy was under strain but I agree they are better able to adapt to low oil prices since they have been under sanctions past few years. wirinet: |
How do know they didn't give any reason to back up their claim? Were you there or is it through that short article that already know every detail of the discussion? You haven't seen the details of how agreement signed and you already conclude. lofty900: |
That's not exactly true. Negotiating out of court settlement is normal during civil court cases. It can also be a way to delay. It has been adjourn till March and then they bring something else up. idnole4: |
It's all part of th strategy. If you follow legal cases you will notice they take it court to frustrate the government and at some point depending on how the case is going the government may decide to settle out of court for a lower amount. All you will hear is MTN and NCC and settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. Reportersgame: |
What enemies? This is all a result of Nigeria not preparing for the downturn by saving and diversifying the economy instead choosing to squander and waste the oil boom and now blame oyinbo enemies. Was it oyinbo enemies who was distributing billions in the last administration or was it oyinbo enemies who failed to ensure we were n dependent on importing crude oil? kennyman2000: |
If the first leg of the return ticket is no show most airlines will cancel the return leg automatically. She should check the specific airlines policy before buying. TheCongo2: |
While I see the logic of your point here the main issue is even though American citizens and LPRs are liable to file taxes when living abroad, this does not mean they pay taxes to the US unless the tax paid in the country they live and work is lower than the US tax liability. Given Nigeria's income tax rate is lower than the likes of the US and UK, Nigerians earning in those countries will not be paying any tax. It will probably be those who work in countries with lower tax rates than Nigeria or tax free zones that will be affected and I'm not sure how significant the funds raised will be. But anyway we need to strengthen the tax collection system in Nigeria starting with those earning in Nigeria before embarking on such an endeavor if not we risk having a very inefficiency system which will probably cost more to run than it will bring in, I agree though that we need to overhaul our tax system and attitude to paying taxes as Nigerians. The government also needs to play it's part by giving Nigerians the confidence that taxes raised will be spent judiciously and wisely. Wyttcat: |
Yes we don't have things like earthquakes, sub-zero temperature etc. in Nigeria but I still haven't seen how we have used that advantage. Japan is a country that suffers from earthquakes and they have been very innovative in finding ways to build buildings which can withstand earthquakes. Countries like the US etc. have cities with sub-zero temperature during winter yet they find ways to advance and continually improve. Scandinavian countries have very very cold winters yet the standard of living and quality of life is so much higher than Nigeria despite the fact we have very good weather. China has extreme weather as well and yet despite that have been able to grow rapidly over the past decades. Dubai has extreme weather as well and yet see what they have achieved. As they say necessity is the mother of invention, so I think if we had extreme weather or such in Nigeria it may have pushed us to be innovative in our thinking rather than depend on oil and keep praying for miracles. Yes we can look at it as we have a lot to be thankful for (which in my opinion is just accepting mediocrity), but we can also look at it as Nigeria is like the servants in the bible who buried their talents and keeps praying to God, and God sits there shaking his head saying Nigeria oh Nigeria I have given you everything you need to be a great nation, but yet waste your potentials and keep calling my name. When you were fining billions of dollars did we think of black people? They used to buy from Iran before sanctions stopped them and now they are going back to Iran. ooshinibos: |
And what do you consider rock bottom prices because there was an article in punch where it said many Nigerian oil fields have a cost of production already lower than or rapidly approaching the current price of oil per barrel which means some are already extracting oil at a loss at current prices. Please explain the rationale behind securing a loan to build pipelines to sell our oil even cheaper as I assume that's what you mean by rock bottom prices. Why would China give such a loan as you must know such loans are based on what China gets out of the deal. It's not because they are nice. MansaMoussa: |

The US is not aiming to monopolise the oil supply but simply to b energy independent so they are not at the mercy of a few oil producing countries. This all started after the 1973 oil crisis where OPEC intentionally placed an oil embargo on America and the West causing an oil crisis. President Nixon pledged that America will be energy independent and every president since then including Obama has always made that a priority. It has always been public knowledge so there is no conspiracy here. Even when shale started to grow everyone said it wasn't possible, it was a lie, it was Propaganda and now it is real and the US is pretty much energy independent and now an exporter. Even China has massive shale gas reserves but have been unable to extract them as they are not close to water sources which are required to pump out the oil. You can be assured the Chinese government is spending money investing in finding a way to extract that oil and also be independent. smitez: |
Many of the shale operators going out of business are the smaller players. The bigger operators are a lot more resilient and are spending a lot of money to find cheaper ways of extracting shale oil. At some point the industry will align to lower prices by cutting costs etc but I just don't see prices going back that high. Also don't forget these shale operators are independent so if prices rise to a certain point where it is economical for them, they just restart production an prices will fall again. The US exported oil to China for th first time ever this week after the lifting of of export ban. Iran plans 500000 bpd and is targeting India the same importer all exporter wants to sell to after the slowdown in China. I believe there will be continued innovation in shale and other non conventional sources of oil. No one wants to be at th mercy of the few oil exporters. Also I read that China used to opportunity to double it's strategic oil reserve to 190 million barrels which means if oil rises soon too quickly they can influence it by using their reserve to push down demand. The oil boom is over and the likes of Nigeria and Venezuela need to face the new reality. ladyF: |
Actually Iran selling oil benefits the world economy, it's oil producing nations that are suffering especially those who depend on oil revenue. Oil importing countries like China India and many others are loving the low oil prices in fact India dictates conditions to buy your oil. Gas prices very low in the US so benefits consumers and other sectors who need to use fuel as it reduces costs. ViktorMartins: |
It's not going to rise soon an definitely not going back to the $100 + anytime soon. ladyF: |
And why would OPEC impose sanctions on the US for production when the US is not a member of OPEC? OPEC is a oil cartel and not a regulator so I don't even see how that will work. I know oil prices are crucial for the likes of Nigeria and other oil producing countries but let's take a step back and look at it from a global economic perspective. Lower oil prices is beneficial to the many non oil producing countries e.g. China, India etc and the oil producing countries had their fun during the oil boom. The high oil price of the last few years have made us feel entitled in Nigeria like it is our right for oil prices to be high. No it is not our right. Oil is a commodity and will rise and fall based on demand and supply. I don't recall the oil importing countries shouting when prices rose over the last few years. mazeltov: |
Depending on your relationship you can apply for a Fiancée visa or Spouse visa if you are married. The link to the requirements for Fiancée visa is below, but you must be able to prove you are in a relationship for at least 2 years. If she is really serious she may consider visiting you in Nigeria a couple of times over the 2 years as well as save correspondence and any other proof that you are in a relationship. https://www.gov.uk/remain-in-uk-family/eligibility lasisi69: |
That is the problem isn't it? Our culture frowns on it so it is always swept under the carpet and never talked about. It doesn't mean it doesn't happen because it does a lot in Nigeria, it's just never dealt with properly e.g. Obasanjo was accused of sleeping with his son's wife wasn't he? Haven't we seem it on nairaland to many people as well? We have a culture that pretends to be holier than thou by pretending such things do not happen and just sweeps them under the carpet. I would rather a culture where you can speak about issues and get good advice from open minded people rather than one where you just have to shut up and keep quiet to satisfy culture and be suffering inside or ge insulted by people who are pretending to be holy but are so corrupt ad sinful when they think no one is watching. How many marriages do we have in Nigeria where the wives are so unhappy but cannot talk or do any thing simply not to lose face for culture? Drabeey: |
Because their culture and tradition is different from your's doesn't mean they don't have culture and tradition. Why are we so quick to put down anything that is different from ours. utenwuson: |
Oh please stop playing that card. Being a pastor doesn't mean you should not be held accountable. Nigerian pastors have used do not judge and touch not my annointed to keep Nigerians in bondage making it a taboo to ask questions. Just keep quiet and do what pastor says, no need for common sense. Yet with all our supposed holiness and tons of churches with constant prayer, what has been the impact on Nigeria? Please tell me. Daughterzion: |
Exactly. We need to always specify we are talking about Nigeria in this situations. Angela Anrendt an SVP at Apple earned more than Apple's CEO in the last year taking in $26m in salary, share options and other benefits. She was paid over $70m the year before in order to lure her from her role at Burberry so yes there are people who become rich as employees. You need to identify your strength and skillset as not everyone will or can be a successful entrepreneur and not everyone will be rich as an employee. We like to ignore the numerous businesses that fail in Nigeria every year, and when you go into business simply for money not because you have a passion or have identified an area here you can make impact, then more often than not that business fails. People like Zuckerberg did not drop out of Harvard to start Facebook simply because of money but because he had a strong passion and belief in his product and that he felt he could build a business which will impact billions of lives. http://fortune.com/2016/01/07/apple-angela-ahrendts-pay/ Lets even come closer to home, didn't Stanbic's Sola David-Bortha earn N170m a few years ago? We are looking for quick money now and ignore the benefits of working hard to build your expertise and credibility. Everyone in Nigeria wants to be a billionaire tomorrow. bidemi12: |
Wow what a second class citizen #sarcasm. |
Omo you harsh oh, sold to China lol. tensazangetsu: |
OPEC or should i say Saudi Arabia (because all OPEC members pretty much do what Saudi decides irrespective of who is OPEC president) wants to maintain its market share by maintaining production levels in the hope that the continued fall in oil prices will lead to the demise of higher cost oil producers such as the Shale industry from the US. So far it has not worked as the bigger shale producers have proved more resilient and continued to drive down the cost of production through technological advancement. Smaller shale operators have shut down, but overall US production has not reduced by much as many of the larger operators are still producing oil. How long either the Shale operators or Saudi can go on remains to be seen. Saudi is able to pursue this strategy because unlike Nigeria they have been able to build a huge reserve during the oil boom of about $700bn while Nigeria had about $30bn when oil prices started to fall. Same with the likes of Venezuela. Important to note that Saudi reserves are dropping rapidly as Saudi have to fund budget deficits and also cover falling revenue and at some point they may have to admit defeat to Shale if the hale industry can continue to persevere. Please explain what conspiracy you speak of? When oil started rising from $10 to $140 I didn't hear any shout of conspiracy, but when it crashed as all commodities do all of a sudden there is a conspiracy. Interesting that you ignore the fact Nigeria did not make use of the oil boom to develop it's infrastructure and diversify the economy instead choosing to squander and waste all the money. Yeah real conspiracy. sammyj: |
I don't think this is the kind of person we want to use inspire Nigerian youth. It's not all about money and many times when they show off money like this that is unexplained and unverified then it usually is too good to be true. Infact this guy actually reinforces the yahoo yahoo reputation of Nigerians because his so called wealth is unverified and tbh I don't really believe it is all legal. JAZES: |
Yes North Korea's main ally is China, does that mean the US Germany and UK will fight Nigeria's war? No France maintains strong ties with former French colonies and will protect them, but Nigeria does not have such ties or agreement with the UK so yes we have allies, but no the US, Germany and UK will NOT fight Nigeria's war.
