InvestmentRe: Oando Rights Issue Over-Subscribed By 14% by ttmacoy: 4:08pm On Dec 21, 2015
Interesting to note that Oando is now going through a third rights issue in about 3 years after reporting vey significant loses. I am suprisd no heads have rolled yet and investors are still going to over subscribe to the new offer despite the pice crashing to N6 resulting in loses for investors who have invested in the last 2 rights issue.

I still have concerns for Oando especially given they are yet to impair the assets acquired at the height of the oil price boom from ConocoPhillips.

Hey hmohammed, re your post below, in addition to looking at the skilled migrant programs on this forum which has a lot of information, another option you can try concurrently is to try to transfer to the Canadian office of your big 4 firm.

It's not an easy process and requires luck and networking but it is possible. No harm putting your self up for global mobility to Canada within your firm for either a secondment (which can be made permanent) or transfer while networking to find someone in the Canadian firm who can pull you over, and at same time working on the skilled workers programme.

House, please I need advise on steps to be taken to relocate to Canada. I have over 5 years work experience in Nigeria in one of the Big 4 accounting firms in the world. Thank you as you help a brother in need of your experience on the subject matter.
EducationRe: Is It Better To Study In The UK Or Study In Dubai by ttmacoy: 6:15am On Dec 16, 2015
What schools did they attend?

I definitely agree that it is difficult to get a job in the UK no with the changes but my point is it is not a case of the UK will not allow you stay but has raised the bar for those able to stay therefore the days of going to the cheapest university with low to easy entry requirements and banking on post study worker is gone. If your aim is to stay then we must raise the bar if not Canada an australia have more favourable requirements at the moment. I would advise poster to look at Canada or Australia instead of Dubai.

Even with the UK high requirements, it is still a better option that Dubai to me.

onila:
most of my friends that studied in the UK are all back in Naija

and I know many were gifted students yet cldnt stay
EducationRe: Is It Better To Study In The UK Or Study In Dubai by ttmacoy: 6:05am On Dec 16, 2015
No exactly true. The UK will allow you stay if you get a job with a company who sponsors you. This means attending good universities and being competitive enough to get into such companies who can pay the salary threshold.

if the poster is targeting good schools and believes he is competitive enough he can definitely work in the UK but if he is targeting just the ok schools which are cheap and have easy entry requirements then he will probably not be competitive enough for the top companies able to sponsor for work permit then the UK is not an attractive option.

I do not think Dubai is more attractive than the UK for international students at all. The universities in the UK are better than Dubai and there are far more job opportunities in the UK but you need to be aware that there is a lot more competition from not only Europeans but many other nationalities such as China, India etc

It all depends on your objectives after your Msc.

South Bank is not a good university in m opinion but depending on where you are coming from and where you are going it may or may not work for you. If you have better options I woke consider if not then it's what it is.

I would rate South Bank with London Met and East London universities, and considering our new finance minister attended East London it's not all doom I guess.

TravelUK Response To Nigerians Can No Longer Be Deported From UK by ttmacoy(op): 1:48pm On Dec 12, 2015
As you may be aware there was a story a few weeks ago about an organisation claiming nigerians could no longer be deport the from the UK as we are commonwealth citizens.

Well what you may not know is some gullible Nigerians have been spending money buying commonwealth cards based on the claims and this is just a way to scam us.

See attached letter from the UK Home Office relating to this matter.

I am surprised anyone actually believed the claims and spent money on this to avoid being deported. Desperation I guess but throwing this out there so we don't waste our money.

BusinessRe: Can Nigeria Replicate China's Economic Transformation? - BBC by ttmacoy: 12:04pm On Dec 06, 2015
It is definitely possible for Nigeria to replicate China's economic success, but many many changes need to be made not just at the top but with ordinary Nigerians.

One line that struck home the most in this article was the one below about our reaction to when things go wrong. We continually accept lower and lower standards to the extent we do not really know what is right or wrong anymore. We just shrug and accept, shrug and accept and that must change. There are many things that happen in Nigeria where in a country like China there will be consequences, but in Nigeria we find a way to justify it. Nigerians must go though a fundamental change in mentality for Nigeria to achieve such success.

Also one thing we need to consider when comparing both countries is it was easier for China because it is a communist regime where the party can enforce policies by force. Nigeria being a democratic nation will require a lot more work, cajoling, comprising across parties and with the different levels of government as well as good and change management to be able to implement similar changes.

Rikidony:
I say believe because the audio on the state broadcast briefly cut out.
In China, an audio glitch at such an important event would cause heads to roll in shame. In Nigeria, people roll their eyes and shrug it off.

It is just one small example of how the Chinese are known for getting things done, while in Nigeria there is a reputation for cutting corners.

CareerRe: The Hard Truth About Your Salary by ttmacoy: 4:20pm On Dec 03, 2015
Spot on.

And this is ignoring the fact that it will probably take some years for the entrepreneurs to build their business and have such steady revenue which at that time the bankers or other workers will not still be earning entry level pay.

Entrepreneurship is good for those who have the skills and ability for it, but it is wrong to give the impression that every entrepreneur is successful or wealthy. Many entrepreneurs make it and many don't same as many white collar types make it and many don't.

Also pushing everyone into entrepreneurship is very bad for the future of the country as critical areas such as science, medicine etc are ignored as everyone pursues money through business.

Many so called entrepreneurs in Nigeria have the wrong mindset as it is all about the money with no passion for service or desire to make a difference. Successful entrepreneurs are not just motivated by money but by the impact they can make in their chosen market.

Some people her eon nairaland also seem to have this impression that owning your business means you can sleep late and work whenever you want. Hell no, you work when your customers need you to work if not you go out of business. Owning your business brings about increased risks and requires a lot of work to build the business.
Nihilist:
This article is so wrong I dont even know where to begin

1. The average employee typically works a 5 day week or roughly 20 days in month. I completely disgree with the premise of the OP's dubious calculations, but even if the calculations were grounded in some sort of logic, shouldn't the OP be dividing by 20 instead of 30?

2. The OP also misses the point by comparing an employee and his steady income to Hawkers,Truckers etc with their irregular cash flow. Again I doubt the veracity of his stats with regards to the earnings of hawkers, truckers and co, but even if the stats were true, The OP still fails to consider that even though the Hawker could earn 2000 Naira in a day, he/she is not guaranteed an income of 120k per month unlike the Banker

The crux of the OP's assertion is Business Owners have the potential to earn more than employees. The OP fails to consider the level of risk that these entrepreneurs are exposed to.

For the vast majority of people, it is better to go to work and be guaranteed your 300k monthly salary jejely, than to go and out hustle with no true knowledge of when the next paycheck is coming.

EducationRe: Public Primary School In Manchester (pix) by ttmacoy: 4:10pm On Nov 29, 2015
Why do you think Indians are not being killed compared to blacks? Because they focus on education and hard work compared to many black communities in america where they drop out of school and get into drugs.

Please tell me how many of the blacks killed were educated people who worked hard and abide by the rules. the boy Laquan Mcdonald for whom there are protests going on in Chicago now, was he a law abiding boy taking advantage of the free education available? Were his parents people to look up to in society? Didn't he just rob a store?

besides I find the black lives matter movement to be discriminatory. a few white people have been killed by the police in the last few months as well and not one single peep from them, but when a black criminal is killed they bring out his best and most innocent photo and start protesting. i think the police shootings have more to do with police heavy handedness and over reaction that racism. Not saying there are not racially motivated killings but it's more a case of heavy handedness.

Please tell me of one black person who was law abiding working hard who got shot by the police. I have been treated far better by the police in the US than I have ever been in Nigeria. They greet me how you doing sir? You know why? because I do not go around committing crimes and acting dodgy and threatening people.

No matter how great Nigeria will be there will always be people moving in and out of the country. I have not said do not develop Nigeria but the reason should not be because you claim everyone is a second class citizen abroad and will automatically be a first class citizen in Nigeria. Also how do you expect people to sacrifice to help develop the country when we have a such an unbalanced society where it is not based on justice or fairness but on who has more money or knows the right people. I will gladly sacrifice for Nigeria if I know my sacrifice will be allowed to make a difference not wasted by some selfish tribalists all after their own personal gain.

EducationRe: Public Primary School In Manchester (pix) by ttmacoy: 3:28pm On Nov 29, 2015
Please let's stop deceiving ourselves with this talk of second class citizens.

I know many people in Nigeria who are second class citizens in their own country.

Countries like the US are so diverse and people from every nationality make it so if you are well educated, work hard and have dreams you can achieve them.

Im not saying there are not issues of racism but it's not as bloom out as we like to claim here and is it any worse than the tribalism we practice in Nigeria? We practice so much discrimination in Nigeria based on tribe religion etc.

If Indians had same attitude will we have Indians heading companies such as Google, Pepsi, Microsoft, former citi ceo, MasterCard just to name a few.

Many many Nigerians re suffer if worse than second class citizens in Nigeria so stop playing that card.

EducationRe: Public Primary School In Manchester (pix) by ttmacoy: 3:07pm On Nov 29, 2015
My brother that is the sad irony. On one hand though I can feel where our people are coming from after years and years of public office holders abusing their positions to loot funds, it creates an attitude of why pay taxes when it will just be stolen.

But I agree we need to change that mindset especially in light of falling oil prices and we also need to have accountability so people are confident that the taxes they pay are used properly.

We have a long way to go but we can get there only if we are ready to work and sacrifice together for the good of the country.

And Nigerians care for their country by exploiting their own citizens?

Why are you expecting the UK to be the one enforcing Nigerian laws? You mention France and its former colonies, do you know how much influence France still maintains in those countries and the benefits France gets? If the UK tried to play same role France plays with its former colonies you will about that they should get out and leave Nigeria alone that we are independent.

Well being independent means you are also responsible for maintaining law and order in Nigeria not the UK government.

Interesting how you have just tried to justify the corruption, stealing and wickedness in Nigeria by trying to blame the UK. Typical, it always UK or US fault but never Nigeria.

No matter what type of diplomat you want to get the UK have the right to deport illegal immigrants from their country same as Nigeria has that right as well. Only difference is Nigeria do not enforce their laws.

This has got nothing to do with mockery but simly following their laws.

Even Americans who are illegal in the UK will be deported and vice versa so we need to stop acting like this is targeted at Nigerians.

Nigeria also has every right to enforce it's laws and deport any illegal immigrants in the country. Nigerians and other nationals who are in the UK legally are in no danger of being deported.

Calm down and look at it logically. Put aside sentiments because he is your friend. You say he had a gun because everything is hot everywhere, reallyhuh? I lived in the UK over 10 years before moving to the US and I never had or know any one who had a gun so if he got a gun illegally then he committed an offence and is a criminal full stop.

I sympathize with him as your friend but that doesn't mean what he did is right.

Yes the UK have every right to send him back to Nigeria if he cannot get his act together and be a law abiding citizen so i don't get this entitlement mentality you have that the Nigerian government should not have accepted him.

He is in the US now right, please tell go commit another offence

Brev, can you read? Everything I posited is self-explanatory but cos you talk more than you listen, or probably cos comprehension isn't ya forte you keep jumping everywhere.

A lot of you are just terrible human beings and the only thing you came on the thread for is basically to gloat over the mishap of others and laugh at their expense.

I've a friend who was sent to naij last year despite the fact that he has been in the UK from year 2 in school, as a kid. He also has a kid (had the kid at age 19). He was the only one born in naij in his family. All cos he was arrested with a firearm for trying to protect himself - due to how hot everywhere was. He was never an illegal immigrant but his legal status was revoked by the home office cos he was deemed a threat to the society. He paid his debt to the society. Finished Uni with a 2.1 degree and his probation officer certified that he had moved on from that lifestyle. Yet the home office kept troubling him. Even after his legal status was revoked, he went to court three times and he won, yet the home office kept re-appealing. Last year they just took him to Nigeria cos fvcking Nigerian government allowed it to happen.

The only thing that saved him was cos he also has an Irish passport his mum got from him time ago and he moved to America with that. If not for that he'd still be in Nigeria now. Regardless, he can't come to the UK to see his kid. And there are loads of people like him who have been messed up the same way.

Listen, I don't know what you want - just go away. And next time don't jump into every discourse to expose ya ignorance.
