Really long time. . .
I want to ask please, if my daughter is travelling from the US to Nigeria on British airways and will be having a less-than-two-hours stop over in Heathrow London. She is just 4 months old and she has both the Nigerian and US passport, but none has visa in it. And she will be travelling with the Nigerian passport, and US passport will be checked in. Does she need a UK transit visa?
Expect your responses, y'all. . .

Did you see the terms of contract signed? If not then stop assuming it was an audit not review. It was not an audit, they were asked to review and ascertain if indeed money was missing and they released a report saying they could not get access to information they needed but based on assumptions made based on other available data they gave an opinion. Besides saying be hey should have cried out when they didn't get the information they need is wrong. Their contact is to the Ministry and it would be a breach of they went to the press. I am sure they must have informed oweala or someone that they didn't get access to nnpc data. They cannot go public with it as that is playing politics and not professional. They must be objective and independent doctokwus: Yeah. But the point is that PWC was contracted to carry out an audit as attested to by ngozi okonjo iweala. When it was not getting necessary documents, why didnt it cry out or withdraw? What we should ask ourselves with all sincerity is this:had PWC been contracted to carry out a similar assignment in America or an European country and 2 very important corporations refused opening its books, would it not have come out to distance itself from continuing d audit,in order to save its name? But PWC has peculiar standards for operating here, they get contracted for an audit, but ended up doing a review while collecting auditing fees. |

They have different approaches to immigration lol. It never used to be this hard in the UK but with the EU and the fact citizens from about 27 countries (can't remember how many) already have open access to the UK, if they don't make things hard it will just go haywire. Right wing parties like UKIP gaining popularity across Europe as well making the bigger mainstream parties also try to show they are doing something to control immigration. zeezahbee: Lol, UK and strict rules. I was actually referring to getting married and moving to spouse visa instead of work permit especially when it came to the employer having to lie about advertising it etc. Not only would him moving to spouse visa at that point give him freedom to change employers if needed, it's also quicker to move to ILR 3 years as opposed to 5 years with work and would have eliminated the need for the employer to do that. Worry357 is right there is a possibility of him getting arrested of it was when he had over stayed because they ask for your passports but now he has leave to remain it should be straight forward to switch biolachick: @ ttmacoy For someone to get married in uk, won't they be required to have legal status in uk? That's our plan towards end of the year. We are planning to go back home to Nigeria to do our wedding coz his parents are based in Nigeria. After that, the plan will be to change his visa then.
Our plan has always been to get married in Nigeria so his parents can be there but seeing that he overstayed before, there is no way he can go back home hence the reason why we followed the DLR route for now. |

According to below there was a reason the bridge was built that way and it is not unnecessary. Alternative would have been to build a bridge that opens and closes to allow the ships through, but this would probably be more expensive given the length of the bridge and disrupt the flow of traffic. The Eshima Ohashi bridge in Japan – the third largest of its kind in the world - rises sharply so ships can pass underneath.pussygotlips: Unnecessary construction |

Since you are British and have a kid together, why not just marry him (if really in a serious relationship)? That way he only needs 3 years to ILR and if he was previously on work permit that would count towards the 3 years. You don't need to do a big fancy wedding foe now, go to the council and register your marriage with 1 or 2 witnesses and get it out of the way instead of extending every 2.5 years for 10 years. Unless i am missing something. biolachick: Thanks so much bebe2. My Partner's own is 2.5years. He will have to keep renewing evry 2.5years then after 10years he can apply for ILR.

No I am not bitter. Those friends you refer to i commend because they TRIED and didn't get in. My point was to those who come on nairaland looking for schools that doesn't charge application fee, is cheap, doesn't not require toefl and gmat and yet feel entitled to give scholarship and funding. Those are the people I am referring to. Yes he was lucky to get into notre Dame, but with that luck came the fact he aimed high and achieved and it took hard work. He would never have gotten in if his attitude was i don't want to do any exam or anything and just look for schools with easy entrance requirements. slimmy05: You're beginning to sound bitter. People have different reasons of being here you know? Ripleplus, did brilliantly well and sure knows what he wants. He is a very lucky dude to get into Notre Dame. It's not just about the profile, grace also comes with it. I have a friend with a 4.0 Masters (US) and also a 3.7/4.0 undergrad, 2 research papers, I can keep going, still didn't get in. |

He sounded like a serious student who ha splats and knows what he wants compared to a others who just read like I want to study abroad. Also he is going for a PhD which let's face it you must be committed to get i to phd programs and even consider one. DeeTus: Congrats. Basically, full-funding was the key to your success. I got my visa this morning, thankfully. Here is my transcript as I remember it. The whole thing took like 3 to 4 minutes.
VO: Good morning, how are you today? Me: I'm fine thank you. Good morning. VO: May I see your passport, I-20 and SEVIS documents? Me: (hands them over) VO: Please place your right four fingers on the scanner... Me: (does as requested) VO: I see you're going for a PhD in Computational and Applied Mathematics. Why the University of Notre Dame? Me: There are only a small handful of programs in the world with my current research interest i.e. in silico research in Computational Haemodynamics. Of the better programs, Notre Dame is one, and Stanford is another. Stanford is just beginning its own Computational Medicine program this Fall. I applied to Stanford as well but sadly I didn't get in. On the other hand, I got into Notre Dame with full funding and it has my exact research interests. VO: Computational Haemodynamics? Me: Yes, the study and computer simulation of the Mathematics and Physics / Motion of Fluid-Structure Interaction in Blood Flow. It has diverse applications in the treatment of cardiovascular ailments and in other heart monitoring therapies. VO: (smiles) Wow, the Mathematics and Motion of Blood Flow? (typing fast on the computer, probably googling to see if I was bullshitting) Me: Yes indeed, the Mathematics and Motion of Blood Flow. VO: Okay, do you already have a Masters degree? Me: No, I don't. I got admitted on merit into the University of Lagos for an MSc this January but just as I began registration, I also got the Notre Dame admission in February so I didn't bother resuming at UNILAG. VO: I see. What was your undergraduate degree in? Me: Electrical / Electronic Engineering. But I have been working as a programmer and self-studying postgraduate mathematics since I finished at the University, so I have the required background for computational and applied math. VO: (smiles) How do you hope to fund your way through school? Me: I received full funding from the department I applied to. It covers a tuition waiver, stipends and health insurance. VO: (Flips through my passport) So you've never left Nigeria before? Me: (smiles) No, I've never left Nigeria before. VO: Congratulations, I'm glad to tell you that your visa application has been accepted. Please pick up your documents at this location (circles location on my documents). Have a nice day! Me: Thank you. Have a nice day as well.
P.S. I just took all sorts of documents to the place for nothing, she didn't even look at them. I was also worried about two things but she didn't even ask: (a) Worried I'd be asked about strong ties to Nigeria, which I don't really have. (b) Bothered I'd be asked how I will intend to apply my study when I come back to Nigeria (cos I didn't want to lie... well, it's possible sha)
I'm really grateful, especially after seeing her deny every single person that went to her own dock ahead of me. Last last sha, na God win. |

You are wrong. They were sentenced to death and their lawyers were the ones trying diff elegant options to try to change it to life. If they executed them immediately people will scream they have not exhausted their legal options and that's abusing their human rights. When sentenced to death, you have different options such as appealing etc which lawyers use to try to change the sentence and it may work sometimes especially if you can prove the first trial went wrong or they price their innocence. In this case they could f and they have exhausted all their legal options. For him to marry and have kids on death row is his problem. The woman must be stupid to have 2 kids for a man on death row. onatisi: bros I get ur point but u need to understand why everyone is against this executions . 99% of these condemned have been on deathrow for the past 10years and even more, one of the nigerians to be killed tomorrow was sentenced to death in 2003 ,and even while in prison he got married and have 2 kids, if they were executed immediately they were sentenced then I guess it wouldn't have been so hurtful, but allowing them to have the feeling that they would be having life imprisonment only to turn around after 15years to kill them is somehow sad. Secondly, try and google the cases and stories of those to be executed most of them were tricked into it ,not knowing what they were carrying. A particularly sad case is the uk grandmother of 63years old lindsay sandiford and the filipino lady with 2 kids ,their stories are very very sad . What will eventually happen is that if the 2 australians and french citizens are killed , indonesia will suffer diplomatic crisis with the western nations and the indonesia president won't last long in power. |

Unless your plan on going to Indonesia was to deal drugs or commit a crime, you have no problem. I have visited and it's a lovely country and I was treated well. Why do you think? Because I was law abiding. I do not condone capital punishment but they have their reasons for being so strict about drugs and that is their law so people need to stop trafficking drugs through their country or face the music. ehie: so sad..can never go to Indonesia in my life. they are heartless |

I agree if the University is at fault they should be held liable, but from the story the canisters of helium were found in his room and this suggests he put them there for who knows what. Also the fact the police have said his death is not being treated as suspicious means they don't believe the University or anyone else is responsible. The way i read the story, he was doing something with the canisters of Helium in his room got out of hand and killed him. Helium gas leaked out of room to building and alarm was raised which meant building evacuated and Police and Chemical team called. The Chemical team first ensured the building was safe for entry and the Police conducted room by room search, discovered his room was locked, broke in and saw his body beside the canisters of helium. Unfortunate and my his soul rest in peace. Sounds like a bright intelligent young man. TRIBUTES have been paid to a student found dead at his Southampton halls of residence.

Wow... Ok that's serious, wasn't aware of this change. Means your main route to settling is to get a job with a company willing to sponsor you for work permit after studies now. cao: ttmacoy, the new policy means you can only stay a maximum of 5 years as an international student in the UK. So meaning if you've already exceeded the 5 years already (maybe from a previous UK degree, masters with year in industry or whatever), then you'll be unable to apply for a visa. In fact the school would not even give you an acceptance letter. |

What do you mean by 5 years as an international student i.e. what does the change in as mean? Just asking you had to study for 10 years as an international student to apply for residency in the UK. cao: The changes which the Conservative-Lib Dem coalition made affected a lot of students - both legal & illegal. In their attempts to cover the student to citizen loophole, they've now made it a maximum of 5 years to stay in the UK as an international student, unlike all the previous international student laws, they made this one count retroactively, meaning all your previous years now count, regardless of whether or not you completed your degree. |

Well said. It is a big issue which just seems to be getting worse. We're approaching the point where we hav a large number of so called foreign graduates in Nigeria but very little from the very good schools compared to the 70s and 80s where Nigerians were sponsored by the government to attend the Harvards and Oxfords. Now it's about which school is cheap, does not ask for GRE and Toefl and has no admission fee. Dangerous precedent. worry357: So many students in so many countries fall into the trap of picking the cheapest school. Cheap school reflects in the quality of the teaching. So when potential employers see the name of a cheap school they rate the student as a poor candidate, so very few job oportunities.
