Foreign AffairsRe: U.S Denies Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iranian Foreign Minister Visa To UN Meeting by tundess: 2:18pm On Jan 07, 2020
maestroferddi:
Knowledge is a boon...

There are precedents: Ronald Regan stopped Yasser Arafat from attending a UN meeting when he was president citing the latter's position as a threat to US national security.

There is actually a law from US Congress forbidding foreign diplomats from setting foot on US soil for UN commitments if they are deemed threats to US national security.

Trump knows his onions...
But not history....

The UN held its session in Geneva and gave audience to Arafat anyway.

Move the UN.
Long overdue. It was only situated in NY post WW2 to get the US to join. Some Europeans felt the League of Nations failed partly due to the fact that the US was not party to it.

Remember, the US under Reagan at one point designated Mandela a terrorist and he remained designated such till 2008. cheesy

For those that can, read....
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/hudson-de-dollarization-americas-escalating-democratic-oil-war-near-east
"The assassination was intended to escalate America’s presence in Iraq to keep control the region’s oil reserves, and to back Saudi Arabia’s Wahabi troops (Isis, Al Quaeda in Iraq, Al Nusra and other divisions of what are actually America’s foreign legion) to support U.S. control of Near Eastern oil as a buttress to the U.S. dollar. That remains the key to understanding this policy, and why it is in the process of escalating, not dying down."

If your zeal for any of the stripes of Abrahamic religions blind you either way, it's all about the $, America's balance of payments re her 800 military bases globally ( refer to Trump tweeting that Iraq must pay if it wants US out, or the US seizure of Syrian oil fields etc) and America's support for maintaining the $ as the global reserve currency. Basically America as Mammon.

What I love about Trump is he has exposed more for what the US really is whereby the veil of "liberal democracy" has fallen so easily away and revealed the duplicity and hypocrisy beneath.

Putin is laughing in Swahili.
PoliticsRe: Eeben Barlow: US Funded Buhari’s Campaign, Says Military Contractor by tundess: 12:20pm On Jan 07, 2020
Every Nigerian should be deeply concerned by these revelations and demand GMB set up a public and transparent Presidential Board of Enquiry into the Chibok Abductions.
But they won't.

Mr. Barlow's allegations suggest that a foreign power actively stymied efforts to rescue the girls and more so, propagated a misleading narrative that GEJ's govt was inactive in trying to remedy the situation. Turns out these narratives were false. GEJ's general incompetence contributed to ppl believing the propaganda. And his admin's corruption.

However, Where are the girls now ? What efforts has the govt made to locate or negotiate the release of the remaining girls beyond tweets and communiques?

I still blame GEJ who had fifth columnists like Hassan Tukur in his cabinet. Notice how, when they mention corruption, his name never comes up ? GEJ also turned a blind eye to blatant incompetence in his security apparatus. Every bomb that went off in Abuja, Ihejirika collected money "for counter-terror operations ".He was also easily manipulated by his kinsmen and those interested in maintaining their snouts in the trough of public monies ( ie Alison, Adoke and Puis Anyim, ppl who can't win a polling unit in their states).

The conspiracy to remove GEJ was broad-based across the elite and foreign powers. But clueless Goodluck never had a sense of how wide it was.
The only comfort GEJ can take is that the foreign powers have exposed themselves as being against the interests of any country but their own. Bear that in mind when looking at this US-Iran palaver.

Ps: I laugh every day "Kwanker", OBJ and "SocGen Buki" are shown the rod by GMB. They deserve every flog they get from his admin. since they enabled it.

Whatever the truth of Barlow's assertions, GEJ was still a Dillard for keeping Ihijerika, then Badeh.
In saner climes, we'd have had a national enquiry/white paper/presidential panel into how Chobok occurred and who was responsible. The fact that the PMB govt hasn't speaks volumes to me.
Following on, we've had a Presidental Panel on Arms Procurement in the Armed Forces (The John Ode Panel). Where is it and what are its findings ?

Better you laugh in Sunni. Those boycotting were Kurds and Sunnis, for obvious reasons. Those in plenary called for the expulsion of US troops

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/05/iran-ends-nuclear-deal-commitments-suleimani-killing-iraqi-parliament-us-troops

"Abdul Mahdi said he had been due to meet Suleimani on the morning he was killed by a US Reaper drone on a road leaving Baghdad airport.

“He was to come to me with a message from Iran responding to the message we delivered from Saudi to Iran,” he added. Suleimani and an Iraqi official, Mohammed al-Hashimi, otherwise known as Abu Jihad, had acted as conduits in a recent Saudi-initiated move to de-escalate tensions between the two regional heavyweights.

Shortly after Abdul Mahdi’s statement, the US announced that it was suspending operations against the Islamic State (Isis) in Iraq and a five-year-old training mission to equip local forces."

Who does the Iraqi govt have to stand against ? Iran or the western and GCC funded ISIS ?

I laugh in swaili..

Entire mps indeed - get your facts right - they were not told to leave - an iraqi govt that can't stand on its own is telling usa to leave.. Lol.

The plenary was highly boycotted, they hardly formed a quorum, besides they are only grandstanding - Iraq cannot survive without foreign aid - military and economic aid in millions of dollars from America.. grin grin grin[/quote]

Richdad50:
shocked

A war scenario between US and Iran will play out like these in the battlefield but, do remembered that it will be remembered as the shortest and most brutal (on one side) conflict in recent history. The US will drag Iran just like a father beats up his neighbors son.

Iran's will first release their first grade missiles (mostly antic Russian missiles and a few SU300 missiles into Isreal and US bases. These missiles will 100% be intercepted by Patriots defense system and the most advanced missile defense system in the world known as the Aegis. With powerful ground base and air missile interceptors, the USA will be able to track, define, and eliminate the direction of the missiles minutes from launch.

Now, the USA will launch their precision (by far the most advanced in the world), laser guided cruise and ballistic (may not need intercontinental)missiles from different launch locations around the middle east. This will also include the ship frigates and strike groups. They will hit Iran defense systems, military complexes, strategic posture and positions, energy, and power. Do know that the US have the Russian SU300 in their arsenal strictly for the purpose of testing.

After the heavy bombardment of military positions (not ground troops), the B-1, B-2, F-35 (Fifth generation jets) will enter into the Iranian airspace. They will drop heavy payloads on more Iranian positions until the entire Iranian sky becomes dark with smoke. There will be no day but night for many days in Iran.

I just laugh when people talk about WWIII. Please from where? Iran! Lol. Iran is too little. The weight, power, and advancement of the US military technology far outweighs any its closest rival (Russia and China) by 10 years. The level of research and innovations from Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Gunman, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Boston Dynamics, etc makes them the most technologically advanced, advantageous military in the world.

Foreign AffairsRe: Mourners Attend Qasem Soleimani's Funeral Ceremony. Iraq Asks US Forces To Leave by tundess: 5:28pm On Jan 05, 2020
There are tweets saying Soulemani was asked to come to Baghdad by the Iraqi PM, to hear an offer from the US to mediate with Iran over certain issues. He travelled from Beirut commercially and was on a dip passport. It was whilst being ferried from the airport that he was assassinated.
If I were Iran, I'd be building that nuke bomb asap. Also, Kim in North Korea is watching. He'd be foolish to denuclearise now.
Foreign AffairsRe: 3000 U.S. Soldiers Deployed To The Middle East After Soleimani's Death by tundess: 5:19pm On Jan 05, 2020
Opiletool:
In that same Iraq war you quoted, over 30,000 US soldiers died.
I think you meant 3000 KIA, tens of thousands wounded ? Iran has roughly 4 times the population too of Iraq. Regime change from the air then is the only option.
Has it ever happened ? Libya 86 ? Nope. Serbia 99 ? Nope. Iraq, various times ? Nope.
To regime change, you need to get your hands dirty, ie, boots on ground. No way US tries that.
For those with spare time read the PNAC document from 1996. States clearly the aim.for the US is "full spectrum dominance". States also which countries are to be subjugated (Iraq, Syria, Lybia and Iran).
The chief of staff to late PM Ariel Sharon said the road to peace in the middle east led through Damascus to Tehran. Make of recent events, in the light of those aims, what you will.

I'm all for war because our oil will sell grin
The troops pictured will not venture out of strongholds. Iraqi parliament (you know, the ones that voted with purple fingers all those years ago ?) just passed legislation asking all US troops to leave.
If not, they are occupiers and resistance to occupation is legal under just war doctrine.
Soulemani's aim was to eject the US from Iraq.
If Trump sez "pound sand", he's a liar who promised to end forever wars and he suffers electorally. Also, US troops in Syria are exposed. If he leaves, all that Twitter stuff was bluster. Iran can also supply the Taliban to their east. Lots of US troops wandering around there. Plausible deniability too. Trump has been trying to negotiate an exit there and the Talibs are insisting they will "win" whatever Trump sez.
Iranians invented modern chess. They have no where else to go but their country. Who blinks first ?
Also, notice Europe's silence. Deafening.
I'd like to add that the US has options too apart from kinetic. IS is being decimated in Idlib by Russian air power and the SAA. Maybe the Turkish, Saudi, US team can help them extricate vis the Turkish corridor.
But Trump has an election campaign to begin and needs campaign money. If he were to cut and run, the neocons won't cough up. So is Iraqi occupation a necessary further expenditure in blood and treasure ?
Foreign AffairsRe: Trump: US 'Targeting' 52 Iranian Sites, To Strike If Iran Attacks US Assets by tundess: 4:21pm On Jan 05, 2020
Iraq parliament has asked US to leave Iraq. Totally.
As predicted.
Soulemani was coordinating the process. Hence his "threat".
If they say "no", they are occupiers and the "liberation" is a sham. Also, makes US troops "occupiers" and resistance using IEDs, EFPs etc from Iraqis with Iranian irregular augmenting them. Recall Basra in Southern Iraq became a no go area because of Iranian "special groups". Remember what happened with the last occupation ? Death, Broken limbs, PTSD and a massive Veterans bill that America will be paying for two generations.
All this and Iran hasn't fired a shot.
If I were Trump, I'd take the opportunity to quit Iraq and the ME altogether. He campaigned on reducing forever war. Here's his chance.
Unless the Saudis and Irsraelis ask him to finish the job off. But do they have a vote in he election ?
Like I said, we haven't even reached kick-off and we can see how his will all end.

Foreign AffairsRe: Trump: US 'Targeting' 52 Iranian Sites, To Strike If Iran Attacks US Assets by tundess: 9:16am On Jan 05, 2020
The US will be forced out of the ME. Soulemani death was the tribute. First Iraq by being asked by the Iraqi govt to leave, then Syria.
Soulemani had been rallying Iraqi parliamentarians to put together legislation calling for US removal from Iraq. In other words, he was an "imminent threat" to US continuation in Iraq.
If you're interested, read below. If not, wave Old Glory.
Clausewitz wrote that war also exists on a moral plane. If the US strikes as Trump has boasted, it is the sure sign of its decline, much like Suez was for Britain and France. There are many conservatives in the US who are appalled by Trump being co-opted to do Israeli and Saudi foreign policy. And it's not a stretch to imagine a false flag attack on a Saudi installation being blamed on Iran. Trump would therefore have to react. Interesting times.....

Sulemani has been travelling all across Iraq and Syria rallying pro-regime forces in both countries for years. From Damascus to Aleppo to Raqqa to Mosul to Homs. Hizb'u'llah factions have proudly posted his pictures on their websites whenever he ventured to the front lines.
He was the leading actor/strategist arrayed against Israel on the Iranian side by dint of him heading the IRGC Quds Force.
Israel had every opportunity to take him out in Syria.
But they didn't. Think about why........
Foreign AffairsRe: Qasem Suleimani Killed In US Airstrike Near Baghdad Airport by tundess: 11:47am On Jan 03, 2020
No American president has lost re-election when at war. Economy strumming along, Trump looks likely to win in 2020. Bush did also. Food for thought.
Iran will escalate, gradually. Where ? Anywhere there are American troops, from the near to far East. Also, South America. Recall, Iranian special groups caused havoc in Basra and southern Iraq during the Iraqi occupation precipitating the transfer of power to Iraqis.
Those believing Iran is powerless miss the point; the Iran-Iraq war only lasted as long as it did because the West supported Saddam with chemical weapons tech and battlefield intelligence. Let's see how this plays out.
Btw, saw on RT a program with Prof. Michael Hudson. He made a really good point; that Trump is actually the Democrat candidate and that Democrats are trying to pick the most likely loser to Trump's candidacy. To wit, Trump has continued the neoliberal policies of Wall St, etc, increased the military budget, extending it to Space Command etc. You hear nery a squeak from Dems about that. If things go tits up, it's Trump's fault not the Dems. Think about it.....

Their money, their governor.
Expanding an already adequate airport to 'international ' standard seems redundant when the current airport appears more than adequate. So we're to believe that air passenger traffic through Uyo will now be international in scope and number to justify this boondoggle? As others have said, this seems very white elephant in intention and by design.
If I were him, I'd sink my funds into a deep water port and build a serviceable road to link with the great eastern trading centres of Aba and Onitsha, in collaboration with the SE governors of those states. You can imagine the multiplier effect vs this airport fandango.

Northern, Western England and Wales (ie Brexit Britain) punished affluent Southern and Metropolitan England and London, particularly, again. These areas want Brexit and want the referendum result respected.
Corbyn was forced by the remainers in his party (like Chuka, though he left) to promise another ref'dum should he have won. He should have trusted his instincts and backed Brexit. If he'd had done that, the result would've been a lot closer.
The idea that Corbyn is anti-semitic is laughable and his media treatment was bias typified.
It is these same areas for which the Tories have no plan, that will suffer Brexit most. Trump is promising a "massive" trade deal, more stimulating than EU trade ? And they believed that ?

The one good thing to come out of Trump's appearances at these international gatherings is that it finally nails the myth that personal relationships are better than old fashioned diplomacy based on national interests. He can't go to a meeting of heads of state/government without falling out in public with multiple members of the group. Macron was wrong in that NATO is not brain dead, the brain of it's putative head is infantile.

Why no capabilities demo ?
Interesting design I'll say that; very different from those being fielded globally like the Courgars, Caimans, Oshkosh etc. I've always wondered why our defence procurement plan doesn't just go for proper wheeled APCs ? What are the longer term plans for infantry vehicles ? The CoPP didn't say. Do we stick with MRAPs, IFV or APCs ? What were the lessons learnt from the the French Op. Serval and on-going Op. Bakhrane ?
Is the gun station remote ? Looks serviced by a PKM type weapon. Vehicle seems to have no stand-off sensors packaged for IR, NV capability. No 30mm grenade launching package. You can go on YouTube and see the grenade launching or gatling gun type capabilities these vehicles can have.
We claim we have built and are fielding drones. How successful have these drones being in turning the tide in the NE ? I fear, like our "space command", "cyber command" and drones, this MRAP production is more a PR pledge than anything substantial.
I'm willing to bet all those senior officers would not ride that thing into Gwoza right now.
