VTJN:
congratulations for achieving this great feat. Would you advice someone to relocate to the US through study route? MSC or PhD which one is better? Is there job readily available after school or it's mainly based on one field/area of specialization? Thanks
Either MSc or phd is fine. There are jobs available but depending on your course of study, some majors are better than the other.

Whether it's via scholarship, sponsorship, marriage, dependant visa, work visa, student visa

Kindly tell us how you were able to make the money you used to travel abroad. The job or business you did that helped you raise the money for your relocation.

Pls be sincere, as someone out there might be of benefit to the thread.

PS: Pls kindly stay off if you don't have something meaningful to contribute other than discouraging those that wants to relocate.
Got a full-ride fellowship to do a Ph.D. in the US. Got an industry job a few months before defending my thesis... and the rest is history.

Was 90% through my NYSC when the opportunity came. The cost was minimal - only needed ~N200,000 for a flight ticket + $1000 pocket money. I was paid a monthly stipend that took care of living expenses.

Good day everyone, I have been a silent reader and learner here for a while.
My interview was on Tuesday May 2nd and I just gathered myself to share my transcript and it went thus

VO: Good morning

Me: Good morning ma'am

VO: I see you're going for an MBA program....

Me: yes I'm going for my MBA in xyz cus I was given promotion as Head of Operation that'll be leading my team on a new project but I need an Intl degree in project mgt before I could assume my new position

VO: who's going to pay for this

Me: my husband, he's a medical doctor and own a hospital here in Lagos with a staff strength of 28

VO: what do you do

Me: I work at Xyz as a risk analyst (didn't talk further cus she wasn't paying attention)

VO: are you married

Me: yes

VO: children?

Me: 2

VO: alright, thank you for your time unfortunately you're not qualified for this visa this time...

Please 🙏 I need your corrections please and where i can do mock interview cus I intend to reapply next week.
I also need your suggestions if asked why I was rejected last time
That's where you goofed. You outed yourself that you were not being truthful. Companies looking to promote employees to sensitive positions requiring additional training typically would sponsor that employee. In this case, your company seeks to promote you to a position but is not willing to pay for the added training required for that position? Does it mean the training is not relevant to your job then?

The truth is my husband is a good man. He chose me, I chose him, and we are happy together. Aside from the current financial issues and law problems we don't have any other problem.
He stood up for me countless times against his sister and asked her to leave me alone. But whenever he does this, the sister gets so mad and says I've come to scatter their family and she begins to report to elders, who now turn on my husband and ask him to draw his sister close as the father of the house after the demise of his father. If he doesn't oblige, he'll be totally isolated from the family, even if his mother is sick or God forbid dies, he won't be informed, nobody picks up his calls or when they answer they sound so cold. The worse part was when my daughter was born, aside my family, none of them congratulated him. This is what they use to get to him and it hurts him so bad, and he ends up blaming me. I hate seeing him in this mood and I'll always encourage him to go back to them. I'm sincerely tired of this vicious cycle, I don't know how long I can continue living like this. This his sister is married, but she doesn't want any of her brothers to be.
Mark 10: 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;

8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

Your husband needs to read the above verses again and again. You and his child are now his family, he should be prepared to walk away from those who do not wish that family well, including his sister.

Your thought process and jumping on my post is what’s absurd. The vast majority of schools accept unofficial transcript and gre score for the initial review process and only ask for the official files after you’re recommended for admission. DO NOT BE STUPID OR ANNOY ME.
Now that you're annoyed, what are you going to do about it? undecided

I dont see anything wrong with Naija applicants asking to know the name of the school. The school is not going to lower their standards to accommodate all applicants. Once their funding pool is dried up, new applicants will be required to bring $$ if approved.
Some schools love having Naija students come to their programs.
Fair enough. But viciously bullying people for choosing not to state the name of their school is wrong. The name of the school has nothing to do with the purpose of the thread.

But financial aid is not considered a loan??
Depends on what it is. If it is a scholarship/TA/GA/work-study/grant, then that doesn't come with an obligation to repay and is ok. A loan is a different story. You have an obligation to repay.

Generally the US health care system is not free like you have in the UK or Canada, but you have programs like Medicare for seniors and she can also use emergency services in hospitals. My opinion is just speculation on why she was denied at her age which before is unusual but Nigeria don cast now even elderly people dey japa.
You have to qualify for Medicare and it is not available for visitors. Emergency services are also taxpayer-funded so understandable why the VOs would not want anyone to come to burden the system.

Hello everyone,

Please I need your help, if I apply for financial aid from my university will it be a problem for getting my F1 Visa approved because the school will include the loan I have secured from the university in my I-20 and I don't know if that will be a problem for the consular to approve my visa. I already have a scholarship and the school offers loans for international students.
This will be a challenge. You will need to pay the loan back at some point, which suggests to the VO that you have no intention of leaving after your studies and clearly cannot afford your study.

I previously checked out their mechanical engineering MS program and their Environmental Science PhD program and I don’t think their MS in Mechanical Engineering funds their students and the PhD requires one to find a supervisor. The fact that they require official transcript and gre score is even more annoying.
They should just give you free education without doing anything on your part? Absurd.

I no need to sabi u Mr Sabinus wey dey hoard basic info.. by your singular act, you have shown that you’re a selfish user. We’re encouraging young, motivated and driven Nigerians to apply and get admitted… but you’re worried about ur selfish self. Good luck in your lonely journey.
"Motivated and driven Nigerians" do not need to know your school and program. They already have their own plans and are here to exchange ideas. The majority of folks here are not interested in going to school, are not motivated, and have no idea what drive is. Hence why they get super angry if you don't share your school name. Let's be sincere, he has gotten far more abuse than fraudsters on this thread while legitimate questions and requests go unanswered. Why? Because too many hang out in the shadows, waiting for someone to drop their own success story so they can simply copy it verbatim. We see it here all the time, one person gets lucky at one program and all of a sudden, entire Nigeria is now applying to that program.

This thread worked better in the old days when everyone had their own plan and this was a way to compare notes and ask detailed questions. Today 10% are doing their work, 60% are hiding around waiting to copy and the remaining 30% are just wasting everyone else's time.

You mean you mentioned the school after people started calling you out angry

The wait time can be frustrating and sharing a school name could help alleviate someone’s frustration. And most times, people say “congratulations!” and just pray they get an offer - not to wish yours is rescinded.
...and that right there is why everyone is flailing him for not sharing the name of the school... not because they care about him at all.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by TWoods(m): 8:04pm On Feb 10, 2023

You’re gatekeeping school and you’re expecting people to come forward with information for you? No be juju be that? Nigerians! SMH. will mentioning the name of your school cause them to rescind your offer?
Go to the phd channel and see how people help themselves. Nigerians and crab in a bucket mentality na 5&6.

If you are an aspiring PhD and you have this mentality, omo, you need to work on a lot of things. Smdh.
Meaningless. Many of the people angrily demanding for school aren't doing so for altruistic purposes... merely for their own selfish interest... and that is the hilarious part of it. They don't want to do any work, just tell them about the school so they can apply too.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by TWoods(m): 7:58pm On Feb 10, 2023
Zihno:
Why the secrecy? A lot of people share their school, their academic profiles etc on forums all the time. Maybe it’s a Nigerian thing because this isn’t the norm on Reddit.

You can’t book an appointment yet. You need the 1-20 and you should pay the sevis fee too. Electronic (Emailed) I20 are acceptable. There’s enough time for visa waka. August is still far.
There is a reason... most on Reddit are genuinely there to help you. Most here are intellectually lazy and looking to simply copy your exact scenario. If he mentions the school and program, rest assured that the program will be deluged with applications from Nigerians in no time, all asking for the same thing.
