I think you need to sit down and understand what you’re doing. You don’t just “shift” to an immigrant visa, you do that either by marriage or having a company sponsor you for a work visa.

First possible error, you're switching from Biotechnology to Management, the two courses don't really match, your current work field is off what you studied, also I don't think you gave her reason as to why you decided to switch. Another is, I don't think you should bother yourself with telling her what you graduated with, since she didn't directly ask for that.

Second possible error, the finialcial part I feel the answer is a bit vaporized, you should have included some possible figures and expand your reply.

I might be wrong sha, but if I ever get rejected, I will ask the VO why I was rejected before leaving.

The level of misplaced arrogance… for someone who has never faced a VO for a student visa interview and can’t get himself a school for study…

To the person whose visa was denied, please ignore much of the nonsense here.

1. She’s going for an MBA, considering the job she described, this fits. She describes being the managing director of a private company, getting an MBA would make perfect sense. The issue of courses matching doesn’t really apply… even doctors earn MBAs here.

2. The response to the financial part is confusing. What does it mean for an answer to be “vaporized”? The OP’s mother earns more than enough to cover an $18,000 deficit.

The most likely reason for the refusal is one the OP herself mentioned. Her visa interview was on the 4th and her orientation is on the 7th. There is no way to grant her a visa in time for her to meet that date. She would simply be turned back at the point of entry. She should have asked the school to give her a letter extending her start date and included that with her I-20.

No, VOs never tell you why you were rejected, they tell you to read the rejection letter they give you.

This is the danger with people thinking they know more than they do, simply because they read a few transcripts.

Non-immigrant visas are meant for short term visits. 3-6 months is not a vacation. Even citizens from visa free countries are required to apply for a visa for any stay longer than 3 months.

I've been clear from beginning about what I want, I stated my history, my current hurdle and politely requested for help. The question was about getting some recommended schools I'll apply to, did you ever read where I said someone should help me out with registration and funding, if that was what I wanted, I could have easily applied via an agent, read to understand, don't assume things.

The interview is the easiest part of the stuff if you know what you are going for, what you are studying, have the right funding and what you will do with the degree. The hardest part is getting the school, course of study, application requirements and funding. So do the basic first before reading transcripts. You don't have admission and you are reading transcripts. What are you going to relate the transcript with. Nigerians and backward integration...

What I'm focused on right now is getting admission, funding is looking good at the moment, I noticed some schools usually make scholarships available for students with good gp, that can also help during the 2md year up, as for school, that prompted my first enquiry on this thread.

Why I'm reading transcripts, I've come to realize that for you to be successful at something difficult, study the pattern of people that have gone through that process with a success and also those that failed it, that would give you a guidance to minimize your chances of failure. Studying like we know, takes time. I hate going for an interview without adequately preparing for it. I'm familiarizing myself with the VO likely tough questions since it looks like the interview process is the hardest.

This is all over the place and you don’t seem to have a clue. I’m glad you said that success requires you to learn from those who have done this before… well here we are, and you seem to be treating our advice as a waste of your time.

To say the interview process is the hardest betrays your ignorance. You have no major picked out, are here begging someone else to give you a list of schools, have no idea the requirements for funding… and interview transcripts are what you want to read? My take is you are quite lazy. You want someone else to suggest a school and major for you, help you figure out funding, while you do only what engages you. Good luck bro

Little wonder. Thing is I dabbled into many activities during that gap, I wasn't idle through out. Also, I'll be registering my company this month. I don't know if that can serve as an option, my initial plan was to come back and set up a technology hub for youngsters. I'm not really interested in staying in the US for long, maybe just have it as a second nationality then run back to Naija. I've been studying people's transcripts and making points for possible questions and possible answers. The hurdle right now is gaining admission, i would have gone with the UK option but let me face the US first and see, I don't know why I'm not scared of the interview stage, maybe it's false confidence but I feel this strong positive energy that it won't be an issue

You’re starting from the wrong point. Transcripts are not very reliable as you will be interviewed based on your unique set of circumstances. In this case, you’re 31 applying for a bachelors degree. Do you have a consistent record of employment? In what field? How is it related to your proposed major of study? Why now and how does the new degree help you after you are done?

What you should be focused on first is figuring out what major/school/financial support. Once you have all that squared away, you now have the time to sit down and think through potential interview scenarios.

He could go for EB2NIW now too. EB1 could be quite difficult for him to prove. EB2NIW processing times are quite fast now. I have seen a person that was approved in less than 2 months!

I do not doubt that he could, the only drawback I see is in not having a US degree. There are several EB1 categories. EB1A is obviously the toughest. EB1B (researcher) should be super easy for a postdoc with published papers.

Would be quite difficult. He should consider taking up a postdoctoral position. He can then apply as an EB1B (researcher). This avoids the perm stage but is substantially easier than the EB2NIW.

You can find single women without the liability. She’s demanding you take full financial responsibility for a child that isn’t yours with no regard as to how that affects you. Her overriding interest seems to be how she benefits from you and nothing else.

Depends on many factors. I assume you’re applying for a EB2 NIW, in that case your degree, and how you sell its importance is critical. Any other EB2 filing will require an employer to file on your behalf and would need you to wait until completion of your studies.

Honestly, there’s no 1 cap fits all or specific pattern to this thing.
One of the first people that boosted my confidence with applying was back in 2020 when a friend I met told me she got approved back in 2019 while she was still on her regular OPT post graduation from her master’s program, she had zero publications or citations, she had only included one of the unpublished papers she had written as part of her coursework while doing her master’s program.

I also do not have any publications or citations. I do not have a PhD degree as well, though I have two advanced degrees ( A medical degree and A masters degree).

In my opinion, one of the most important factors remain your proposed endeavor, what is the strength of your work? Can you find relevant articles to support how important this is to the United States? Can you find important statistics to show the trend of things in that field?

In my case, my proposed endeavor and current work is in Infectious Disease Epidemiology, I looked for important government articles and other articles by key organizations (CDC, Harvard, John Hopkins etc) to support and show the national and economic importance /substantial merit of my work.

Also, you have to go all out when writing about how you are well positioned to carry out your proposed endeavor. This is your opportunity to “sell yourself”, DO IT WELL!

“The second prong shifts the focus from the proposed endeavor to the foreign national. To determine whether he or she is well-positioned to advance the proposed endeavor, officers consider factors including, but not limited to: the individual's education, skills, knowledge, and record of success in related or similar efforts; a model or plan for future activities; any progress towards achieving the proposed endeavor; and the interest of potential customers, users, investors, or other relevant entities or persons.”

The above is quoted from the USCIS policy manual for EB2NIW. Read this manual thoroughly, it will guide you!

Letters of recommendation from experts in your field are also strongly encouraged!

Overall, you know your situation better than anyone else. If you believe having your PhD degree will boost your application and give your application more strength, then by all means wait for it!

It was just a piece of advice. I happen to disagree with the “anybody can get it idea” when that money can help those who are regulars on the very thread that got him where he is today. The vast majority here don’t even know the thread he is talking about.

Of course everyone posting in the first 1-2 pages wants first come first served… because that means THEY get the money.

My suggestion for a fair award is to go to the US student visa page and pick the top 10 or 27 folks there who are consistently helping provide advice and help. You can also include posters who may be struggling with paying application fees. Most of those asking for money here contribute zero to the very thread that supported you 10 years ago.

Your brother’s visa is tied to the school starting January 3, if your brother does not travel on that visa, he’ll likely need to reapply for another visa.

Abroad life get as e be. You get all the amenities of life but oftentimes forfeit the close knit community lifestyle one has built in Nigeria. Truth be told na availability of basic amenities and security of lives and properties keep people for abroad. The things we 'kabash and reskete' at vigils and church services for in Nigeria na normal normal for abroad. It's painful say our leaders don institutionalized poverty thereby making it a political tool for political campaigns. If our leaders fit have the fear of God for once and begin upgrade Nigeria with the billions of Naira at the disposal, Nigerians go japa-less. I miss Nigeria but the level of insecurity, Kidnappings that way dey scare me walahi. Imagine 40+ people slaughtered in Southern Kaduna and el -Rufai the dwarf of a governor hasn't moved a finger! May Nigeria get it right in 2023! Amen!

The Nigerian communities aren’t really as close knit as we claim. Here in the US, a large number of Americans live and work within a few miles of their extended family. Many have annual family get togethers and thanksgiving/Christmas holidays are strictly family time. That isn’t the case with Nigerians. Closeness isn’t what we have, it’s a tendency for chaos, being overly involved in the lives of our neighbors and restlessness.

This makes no sense. It’s no secret that every culture is different. The problem is too many Nigerians want to go to an abroad version of Nigeria, devoid of the culture of their hosts. I’m sure you could get the exact same education in nigeria. You could have saved yourself millions of naira
