PoliticsNSITF Spent N5.7bn On DSTV Subscription, Fuel Allowance by U09ce(op): 2:03pm On Jul 19, 2018
A report by the administrative panel of enquiry set up by the minister of labour and employment has shown that staff of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) spent N5.7 billion on pay TV subscription and fuel allowance.

NAN reports that Chris Ngige (pictured), minister of labour and employment, received the report on Wednesday.

Ishaya Awotu, the chairman of the panel, said that there were irregular allowances totalling N5.7 billion paid to staff and management.

“These allowances were paid without the approval of the National Salary, Incomes and Wages Commission,” he said.

“Some of the allowances were management staff allowance, staff education allowance, DSTV subscription allowance, and dressing allowance.”

The others were generator and motor vehicle fuelling allowance which were not provided for in the Condition of Service of the fund.

Awotu said the internal audit department of the fund did not audit the accounts between 2013 and 2017, which violates section 1701 of the financial regulations.

“There were several transfers of funds in bank accounts without authorisation and approvals. The sum of N15, 737,757,697.91. was transferred from one account to another.

“Evidence to show the approvals and payment vouchers authorising the transfers were not presented to the panel.

“The panel observed that N2.9 billion was expended on computerisation and other related lCT equipment.

“Despite this expenditure, not much was achieved on computerisation of the Fund”

According to the chairman, various taxes worth N2, 650,731,225. 93 were deducted without remitting to the appropriate authorities.

Ngige said another committee would be set up to implement the recommendations of the committee.

“This is not my report, but a report of the Federal Government of Nigeria. Those findings, especially about overseas trips which were unauthorised will be dealt with.

“This report will be fully implemented and areas of lapses corrected. Many government organisations have gone under because of situations like this.”

Someone who is not on ground is claiming that the protest was peaceful. How did peaceful protesters stabbed a policeman multiple times leading to his death? This stupid Shiites have now grounded commercial activities in the city centre. People have closed shops since noon for the fear of unknown.
For people that are sympathetic to this Shiite lot, please can you ask any of your relative/friend living around Zaria/Kaduna axis whether the Shiites are really peaceful? Don't just come online and start defending what you know little about.

A former US state department top expert on Nigeria has asked the American government not to sell 12 warplanes worth $500 million to the Muhammadu Buhari administration. TheCable understands that the order for 12 A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft was to enable the Nigerian military to “finish off” Boko Haram insurgents who are still operating in Borno state. But Matthew Page, writing in War on The Rocks, an online policy discussion platform, accused the Buhari government of violating human rights and misplacing his priorities. He also alleged that the Nigeria air force officer who went to the US to negotiate the contract in July 2015 “has since been charged with corruption”. Page wrote: “The Department of Defense will soon notify Congress it plans to sell 12 A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft to Nigeria. Both countries hope that the propeller-driven warplanes — tailored for counterinsurgency operations — will bolster Nigerian efforts to combat Boko Haram, one of the world’s deadliest terrorist groups. U.S. policymakers also want the sale to be a visible symbol of their strong desire to do more to help Nigeria combat terrorism. “Unfortunately, the sale will be a Pyrrhic victory for five reasons: It is way too expensive, it undermines U.S. corruption policy, it overlooks recent human rights abuses, it won’t help Nigeria fight the Boko Haram of tomorrow, and it won’t foster closer defense cooperation.” According to Page, who co-authored a forthcoming book, ‘Nigeria: What Everyone Needs to Know’, the country should be encouraged to buy a squadron of Brazilian-American turbo-props which are “way cheaper”. “[$500 million] could, for example, buy twice as many MI-35M (Hind E) Russian-made attack helicopters,” he further suggested. Here are his five reasons..... READ MORE ON THE LINK BELOW https://www.thecable.ng/nigeria-orders-n157bn-warplanes-us-little-problem

For the facts, almajiri was never the root cause of Boko Haram. BH was nipped in the bud around 2009, but suddenly reincarnated in 2010 during GEJ's administration. I am not saying that GEJ was complicit in their resurfacing, but he cannot escape the charge that he allowed to BH to fester swiftly under his watch. He was allocating huge sums of money in the name of fighting insurgency, which however ended as lubricant for private elitist pockets.

EducationFG Orders Reintroduction Of History In Schools by U09ce(op): 6:01pm On Sep 29, 2016
Following the criticisms that have trailed the suspension of the teaching of history in schools, the federal government on Thursday ordered the reintroduction of the subject in basic schools across the country. Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who called for the disarticulation of social studies in the current curriculum of basic schools and reintroduction of history as a subject, said this has become imperative given the critical nature of history to the nation’s socio-political development. The Minister made the call in Abuja Thursday while addressing delegates at the 61st Meeting of the National Council on Education Ministerial Session. He also urged the Council to consider making the study of Christian Religious Knowledge and Islamic Religious Knowledge compulsory for both Christians and Muslims to the end of Senior Secondary School. Adamu said the reintroduction of history as a subject on its own in basic schools will give the Nigerian child a self identity of who they really are. He added that Nigeria owes both the present and future generations the responsibility of removing all inhibitions against opportunities of acquiring morals and ethics as taught in the religious traditions. “It is only the study of history, our own history, that can explain and give meaning to our very humanity and that is why we must study it and teach our little ones. It is also not enough that they merely know who they are; we must teach them about their God. “Since it is said that if you want to destroy any nation, it’s either first the family is destroyed, then the education is destroyed and the third the social morals are destroyed and in Nigeria we owe both the present and future generations the responsibility to remove all inhibitions against making our children acquire morals and ethics” At the Council Meeting, the Minister also launched the National Teacher Education Policy , NTEP, and the National Quality Assurance Policy, NPEQ According to the Minister, the National quality Assurance Policy, NPEQ, is an assurance system for institutions below tertiary level and for expected standard of practice in Nigeria. On the other hand, the policy identifies the pivotal role of qualify teachers in the provision of quality education at all levels. “The objective is to produce highly skilled knowledgeable and creative teachers who are capable of producing globally competitiuve students, the policy seeks to ensure that teachers recruited, trained and re-trained based on explicit standards,” he said. On the theme, ‘Education Council Meeting ; Teacher Quality: A Tool for Sustainable Human Capital Development’ , Adamu stated that it was informed by the need to draw the attention of policy makers, technocrats, professionals, and stakeholders in the education sector to the indispensability of the teacher in human capital development for the achivement of national goals.
