Ubenedictus: 3. Catholic ministers may licitly administer the sacraments of penance, Eucharist and anointing of the sick to members of the oriental churches which do not have full communion with the Catholic Church, if they ask on their own for the sacraments and are properly disposed. This holds also for members of other churches, which in the judgment of the Apostolic See are in the same condition as the oriental churches as far as these sacraments are concerned. 4. If the danger of death is present or other grave necessity, in the judgment of the diocesan bishop or the conference of bishops, Catholic ministers may licitly administer these sacraments to other Christians who do not have full communion with the Catholic Church, who cannot approach a minister of their own community and on their own ask for it, provided they manifest Catholic faith in these sacraments and are properly disposed. |

But canon law tore a big hole in the name of ecumenism, i usually find it hard to understand but there is an opening that allows non catholics to receive confession in the church under certain conditions. The Byzantine empire was effectively faded from the Earth when her capital was invaded and burnt to the ground by the 4th crusade in 1204. That was a crusade called by a pope, financed by merchants of Venice and carried out by Christian knights to destroy the 2nd most important Christian empire after Rome!
Please study the crusades a bit more than you have already and you'd have a more balanced view. OH, i did study alot about the crusades esp the 4th crusade. U forgot to add that it was called as a defensive war to the holy lands, tricked into constantinople against the wishes of the pope. It was condemned by the pope with an excommunication against the vinetians. It was called as a just war. |

alfarouq: In addition to what Farmer 4life has said, scholars explained that the statement submitting willingly or by force to mean Allah has the power to enforce all humans to obey and always follow his commands like he did with the angels but he decided to allow man to chose whether to willingly submit or not. But there are instances he has also forced man to obey his will which include forcing all to eat, sleep, excrete, drink, etc whether such person is theist or atheist, old or young, rich or poor. Those that willingly submitted are the Muslims. Islam encourages peace and order but it does not support pacifism. Sometimes to establish peace and order, you need both the stick and carrot approach. So u mean sumtimes it is ok to kill people just so they submit to allah even when they dont want to, is that not the definition of violent? |

kjhova: Do a more tedious review of the crusades, man. Princes secure papal bulls from the pope as standard cover for plundering the Orient. Essentially, the crusades were mostly an immoral gang up by vile kings, princes and knights under the banner of religion to plunder, massacre and enslave the new east. Same way today's Jihads are savage acts by barbaric groups in the name of religion to maim, plunder and enslave. No pope is known to have ever condemned the Lionheart or any other king for all the atrocities committed in the middle east during the crusades. I will be eager to be schooled to the contrary if there is any evidence for such.
Regards. You have it wrong again. The princes didnt just secure bulls from the pope and then went on to fight people, instead it was the pope who usually called the crusade and gather the princes for war, d pope appoints a preacher to preach it and finally put many cleric in it as papal legates. It was a church affair not colonial. |

Farmerforlife: This incident is not authenticated. Scholars have long had issues with the stories of historians that have dubious chains of narrators. In most cases historians themselves have stated that all the stories they have narrated are not authentic (such as atTabari, who also related this incident). This is why Muslim scholars have differentiated between stories from historians and hadith from compilers of narrations. Also, in extracting religious rulings, only hadith narrations are relied upon in interpreting Quranic verses, historical stories are not.
As a by-the-way, even if we accept the story as true, we realise even from ibn Hisham himself that the prophet (ﷺ) was not very happy with the actions of Khalid ibn alWaleed it is ok if u reject that story as untrue and claim muhamed never sent someone to compel people to islam but that isnt the only story even in d hadith. can u reject all of them? what about surah 3:83 that seems to allow compulsion? |

kjhova: Your assertion is right that the need to stop Islamic expansion was a root cause of the 1st crusade. However, there were tens of crusades over a thousand years and many were nothing more than devious campaigns by greedy or overzealous European princes supported by Venetian merchants seeking booty. These crusades were countered by many Muslim jihads and in the period, wanton killing, maiming, raping and enslavement of many people were carried out by Christians and Muslims in the names of Allah and Jehovah.
I am not so sure that at any point in those thousand years Jehovah or Allah ever told their people that killing of other humans is bad. Actually it is the pope who historically call a crusade not the european princes. In each of those cases the crusade were planed against muslim expansionism as just defense. Many derailed into escalated violence and the popes who called the crusades are usually the 1st to condemn it excesses. They were trully defensive wars. |

The abrogated verses are clear (from the explanatory hadith), what verses abrogated them is also clear. We cannot just declare a verse abrogated because it does not agree with our desires. There must be backing evidence. I did a little play around muslim literature, see what i found: Ibn Ishaq/Hisham 959 - Then the apostle sent Khalid bin Walid… to the Banu al-Harith and ordered him to invite them to Islam three days before he attacked them. If they accepted then he was to accept it from them, and if they declined he was to fight them. So Khalid set out and came to them, and sent out riders in all directions inviting the people to Islam, saying, “If you accept Islam you will be safe.” So the men accepted Islam as they were invited. |

There were many crusades lasting over 1,000 years, organized by allied European kingdoms to ship thousands of warriors across the continent, over the Mediterranean and across deserts only to attack Muslim lands.
The whole purpose of the Crusades was to establish European (so-called Christian) control over the "holy lands" of Jerusalem etc which were Muslim territories at the time. They were not just wars by any fraction, they were pure colonial enterprises. You need to go back to ur history books. the 1st crusade were called at the behest of the greek patriarch and emperor against violent islamic aggressive expansionism. The muslim empires went about conquering the non muslim group with force, after the arabian penisula they enter persia, syria, jerusalem, jordan..., they were the aggressor on military conqest and the crusades were called as just wars to halt this violence. |

Yes, the second commandment forbids the worship of "images", whether of things in heaven, earth, or waters. The dictionary definition of an image is "a representation of the external form of a person or thing in art".
So when God forbids the making of, worshiping or bowing down to carved images, commonsense dictates that He wasn't speaking of one making a photograph of himself for probably identification purposes, but giving worship/adoration/reverence to such an image as either a representation of God Himself or a mediator. u wan begin lie! what u call d 2nd commandment has 2 explicit commands. 1. it forbids the making of all graven images for whatever purpose. 2. it forbids adoration given to images(idolatry). we are all guilty of the first command inasmuch as u have an image at home. i am not guilty of no 2. do u observe command 1? |
