femi4: There is no Human right in Religion. Pope is a religious leader and should be talking about the dos and don'ts not human rights
in catholic Christianity and orthodox Christianity there is Human Rights based upon the divinely established human dignity, I don't know about Protestantism and Islam... But over 70percent Christians believe God gave men certain rights.
jayson87: thats what religion makes people do... stupid things, waiting for one catholic to come justify this, tell me how goat blood translates to the blood of jesus
weytin concern goat blood and Jesus blood? Why not just ask why they do it instead of assuming a silly reason
Nodogragra4me: There is no completion of sainthood ... a saint is a saint while alive ...a saint is a follower called and justified once. When he or she does he returns as a spirit back to heaven ... there is no special long process that ends with the conferment of the title of Saint. It is not a church special title for some select few. It is God general name for his people while they live in flesh and blood
That your church procedures are not known to the scripture and therefore has no backing from heaven... It is religion of man and I am sure this iron bed man hopes to be one someday by reason of his iron bed and stone pillow practice
I will be shocked if few years from nos that metal contraption doesn't attract a special breed of followers who would go on a prim and to the bedside to pray
guess you are still a child In Christianity and you are ignorant that entering heaven aka glorification completes the justification process,
Nodogragra4me: You have exhausted yourself as nine inches and returned to Ubenedictus. I don’t have time again for your engagement on this thread but we will meet again on related issues
I am not 9inces, I only have one handle on nairaland, 9inces is a friend and a brother in the faith, we gist and share sometimes in the Catholicism thread, apart from that, I do not know him... His post is a bit philosophical and he engages atheist, mine hardly address such things and I hardly take on atheists in their arguments.
We are 2different people, though I consider it a honor that you think I am he, it means the faith we share is truly powerful
Mickey02: something happened in my parish that kept me thinking and wondering as well. During 1st Friday adoration, after station of the cross and the Holy mass, I saw the Catechist bringing the Blessed Sacrament (Monstrance) from the adoration chapel to the sanctuary. And i wondered why would the priest let or asked the Catechist to bring the Blessed Sacrament, I thought is a function to be done by the priest alone or bishop but i'm surprised that the Catechist, not even a Deacon or seminarian, just did it. As my fellow catholic, i don't know if this is right or sorry. pls solve the puzzle and confusion running through my mind?
that is a bit weird.
I know of Eucharistic ministers but this is the first time I am hearing of any body carrying a monstrance with the host inside and yet not a priest.
Ministers of holy communion are usually not permitted to officiate a benediction or carry a monstrance, canon law does not give them that duty, their job ends at distribution of communion.
Ask your priest if it disturbs you but I think it is strange
Shepherd00: What happened to all the Saints the Catholic Church worships? Why not put them up, but the statues of demons?
First the Catholic Church doesn't worship saints, we venerate their memory, statues of saints are found inside the church not outside, and no medieval architecture will use a saints statue to conduct water from a roof, it will be seen as disrespectful to use and image of Jesus or a saint for that.
Nodogragra4me: The death of Jesus Christ can't be the reason for rollback your church practicing bodily mortification. Everything churdtians do must either be expressly commanded or commended by the scripture.
When Jesus Christ went into fasting , the Bible was very clear about what he did. All the fathers of the faith in the scripture that fasted didn't go into mortification . The Scripture kept recordsmof cities that went to fasting and not one of the people embarked on mortification of their bodies. It was all about food and water abstinence and works of charity.
When jeus told the disciples that this kind goes not out except by fasting and prayer, he was referring to what he had already done not this your notification.
This man sleeping on hard surface for the sins of the world is only exhibiting his ignorance of the great commision to every one everywhere to go preach the gospel of Christ to the entire world. There is no scriptural precedent for his action and he can't possible be doing it for the world for the gospel says Jesus came so that WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH I him would be saved and not perish
It is whosoever believeth. He ought to have gone out to get men to believe rather than be sleeping on iron bed and using stones for pillows. He impresses no one in heaven with his ignorance
fasting itself is mortification, get out of ignorance
brainhgeek: No amount of sleeping on the floor can forgive your sins if you refuse to accept that Jesus is the redemption you need. You can he sober and wear rags cloths for 1000000years but without repentance and acknowledgement of the Messiahship of Jesus, no forgiveness. No man can erase or shoulder the sins of the himself let alone that of others. For ALL have sinned. Rom 3:23-26. Ignorance of this is dangerous and can lead to a feeling of self righteousness. Knowingly ignoring that fact is however disobedience + rebellion which before God are like idolatry and witchcraft. 1 Sam 15:23
who told you he didn't accept Jesus?
Why this totally of point post?
He certainly accepted Jesus and took up some mortification... What you find wrong with that is just your problem.
blueAgent: As usual you are twisting the scripture to suit your false doctrine that Bible verse is not about honouring those men you mentioned but is given to us as an example of people who had faith in God and overcame their challenges.besides None of those men were perfect or without sin as you people claim Mary is without Sin. Moses:disobeyed God Abraham lied several times. David was a muderer and adulterer. Jacob stole his brothers birthright. Sarah. lied Mary: am sure her sins are many. The list of great servants of God who fell one time or the other is endless. Only Jesus lived a Holy and perfect life no one else could have done that including Mary.
you simply asked me to show where people were praised in the Bible and I just did, those are people praised for their faith.
I didn't twist anything.
Now as usual you Have shifted from the issue of praise to the issue of sinlessness.
Before I go to that, do you agree that the bible records the praise of great men of God?
I hate people who go about shifting topic without admitting the initial point
Nodogragra4me: Firstly, you are amongst the negligible percentage of Catholics who circumstances have forced to reluctantly agreed that Christians here on earth are actually the saints not those in heaven.
Your official CHURHC position is that it is those who have died and have received special recognition that is calibrated by your CHURHC .....or ranked.... Tansi is still at the level of Bleesed ...the has not attain full star general of a saint in your church ... Are those qualified to be called saints who are like your Mary , alternate power source to Jesus. Even those who help carry out public execution of so called heretics ended up as saints .. even this scallywag called Shekaru that runs the Boko gangs is a leaner in the acts of committing heinous crime against humanity.
Scripturally, saints is the name used to refer to God's people here on the earth when they still have flesh coverings for their spirit and soul. Anyone that is numbered by God while here on earth , as his own is a saint of God not of the Catholic church and they can pray intercessory prayer while here on the earth for humanity but ceases as soon as they die because When they die they return as spirits into heaven for God is only a Spirit but God of all flesh. Here are some examples from the scripture:
9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness, because no man shall prevail by his own strength. (DRC, 1 Samuel 2:9).... Feet belongs to the flesh and wicked people are not in heaven to fight with saints
15 Saying: O Lord God of heaven and earth, behold their pride, and look on our low condition, and have regard to the face of thy saints, and shew that thou forsakest not them that trust on thee, and that thou humblest them that presume of themselves, and glory in their own
strength. (DRC, Judith 6:15)
5 For we are the children of saints, and we must not be joined together like heathens that know not God. (DRC, Tobit 8:5)..their fathers were God disciples
1 Unto the end; for the octave, a psalm for David: Save me, O Lord, for there is now no saint: truths are decayed from among the children of men. (DRC, Psalms 12:1)
24 And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth. (DRC, Revelation 18:24)
12 Here is the patience of the saints, who keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. (DRC, Revelation 14:12)
4 And the smoke of the incense of the prayers of the saints ascended up before God from the hand of the angel. (DRC, Revelation 8:4)
Is Jesus Christ dead? This Mumu question ought to be directed at your pope. To have your Mary answer your prayers whether at the same or respectively, she needs to be omnipresent. It is possible that your early pope's believe Jesus died kpatata on the cross hence Mary ascendency to the office of intercessory with a retinue of aides called saints to help her with the task ... Saint ubenedictus , pray for the pope to receive sense
all who have been justified by faith in Christ Jesus in baptism are addressed as saints in scriptures, physical death doesn't end it, instead it completes it.
When you hear the word Church, what comes to your mind?
Denomination? Church building? The body (fellowship, brethren) of Christ?
Jesus established the Church of Christ. Simple!!! He is the Head and Foundation of Christianity. Jesus did not establish the Roman Catholic Church, or Anglican Church, or Methodist Church, or Apostolic Church. He established the Christian church. Just make sure that the practices of your denomination conforms to the practices and tenets of the Christian Church. Is that too hard to believe.
You said the Bible is not complete, and is not the only way. I laugh.
Jesus is the (only) Way, the (only) Truth, and the (only) Life. Is Jesus in the Bible? If yes, that then makes the Bible COMPLETE, and the only guide any GENUINE Christian ought to follow, with the help of the Holy Spirit of course.
Please don't mention me again. You are in a VERY dark place.
this doesn't change the fact that Jesus founded a single community that speed to many places and that community is what is historically called the Catholic Church and that those called denominations that broke from her are condemned according to scriptures
Nodogragra4me: Your church prays to a supposed Mary, a woman without capacity to be everywhere at the same to attend to every single one of you. How does she answer your request? Mary is the go to Jesus of your church ... she has more airtime within your church prayer time than Jesus , the Holy Spirit and the almighty God. She is the alternate and trusted Jesus operating within your church
It is to her patronage that you people flies to. It is her that is hailed ..hail holy queen ... It is her alone that has a litany that takes a minimum 10 minutes to recite ..where her image is in your church compound , you never have that of a mature and standing Jesus .. it is either that of a small boy or a dying man on her lap ...never a strong man
Check your church calandar , it has more activities for Mary than Jesus Christ. Go and check it
Your church is the church of Mary ..the only group or society within your church that has pray a it core when they meet everyday is block rosary and the pray is to Mary not Jesus .. Jesus is an attachment sprinkled here and there but the core is Mary. Every other group is about meeting and what to do except the charismatic group that is not even acceptable in some parishes
I am not wearied because I want you to think in your private time all I have written and tell yourself the truth against what is actually the position of the scripture on all you have been trying to defend
every day, every mass in the Catholic church is still a celebration of Christ's death life and resurrection, so u are sad that in some of those days marry is remembered?
ochibuogwu5: gradually, the Holy Spirit is cutting a clear separation between "Christianity and traditional religion inside the Catholic Church" in the South East of Nigeria. THANK YOU JESUS CHRIST FOR THIS BOLDNESS!!! GREAT GRACE +HILARY!!!
this isn't new the bishops have been sounding this for some time, many villages have reformed their titles rite to accord with Christianity and some even give titles to priest to show that their rites have been totally reformed with no idolatry
Gargoyles are not satanic, they are architectural masterpiece of medieval times that was used to remove water from the roof to prevent water from destroying the mortar, they were made in an artistic way sometimes resembling whatever.
That particular art/architectural style began to wane as it was criticised by people like St Bernard of the Catholic Church who didn't like what they depicted. He said.
"What are these fantastic monsters doing in the cloisters before the eyes of the brothers as they read? What is the meaning of these unclean monkeys, these strange savage lions, and monsters? To what purpose are here placed these creatures, half beast, half man, or these spotted tigers? I see several bodies with one head and several heads with one body. Here is a quadruped with a serpent's head, there a fish with a quadruped's head, then again an animal half horse, half goat... Surely if we do not blush for such absurdities, we should at least regret what we have spent on them"
His criticism not withstandin, they are medieval architectural arts only recently in the 1900s did people start claiming they are occult.
They are simply old architectural designs with bad taste art
The Catholic church is the number antagonist of family planning in the world. The church is against use of pills and contraceptives, so to what end...
Eran jatijati
not true, Catholic do family planning, it is called "responsible parenthood " but they do not use the artificial and sometimes harmful contraceptives, they use the natural methods of family planning if there is good reason for it.
brainhgeek: Mortification should not be mutilation. However, mortification/spiritual exercise is not for God's benefits but for our benefit. He is God by Himself. Mortification or not, our worship or not, He doesn't diminish in personality. My initial argument about mortification was sparked by the fact that the late founder of block rosary slept on iron bed and block pillow because of the sin of the world. Sir, God is not appeased by that. He has given us just one solution, Jesus. Perfection is not by the flesh Galatians 3:3.
Our worship etc doesnt affect GOD's personality but it certainly gives God glory.
David slept on the floor, wore sack clothes and fasted for God to spair his son frm death due to his sin! Some people do that a pray for others.
brainhgeek: You sounded some valid points. Now we can get started. I wanted to get your definition of mortification clearly before knowing how to rwsponse. To many Catholics, it includes mutilating your body whereas it is subjecting your desires to focus and be on the same page with God. Mortification should not be mutilation.
Mutilating ur body is condemned in catholicism, a catholic priest is expected stop people frm any such practice if it maims the body or risk health.
Fasting itself is mortification, placing ashes on the head, etc is an expression of horor and outrage and repentance for sins, ascetic practices like feeding solely on honey and locust, wearing animal skin etc like John the baptist did also falls under mortification.
David also lay on the ground to plead for his ill child, along with fasting and sack clothes, all that stuff falls under mortification. @Nodogragra4me
brainhgeek: I have two questions for you before I respond to your response! 1. What is the reason for motification? 2. Is spiritual exercise the same as bodily motification? 3. Who does motification satisy? Men or God? 4. If Jesus is our model and He did not practice bodily motification on Himself, why should we do it?
1. one of its aim is to subject d flesh to d spirit. 2. yes just as the tire is part of a car, so is mortification part of spiritual exercise. 3. God, a body under d spirit glorify God. 4. yes, Jesus fasted 4 40 days.
