Christianity EtcRe: Which Version Of Bible Is Your Preferred Choice? by Ubenedictus(m): 1:00pm On Jan 02, 2019
TATIME:
Really funny indeed Sir, but that's how we are able to remain virtuous in the midst of countless religious groups claiming Christians.
If everyone is a Jehovah's Witness there won't be any weapons on this planet again because we've taught ourselves to leave vengeance to God who will judge all wickedness! Isaiah 2:2-4 Romans 12:19, Hebrew 10:30
The Catholic Church has been in existence for almost two millennia now yet they can't end racism amongst their members, Jehovah's Witnesses are just 160 years(as assumed) and they've succeeded in eradicating politics and weapon carriers in their midst!
the bible also teaches that it is just to violently oppose an unjust oppressor who seeks your life, that is self defense.

There is no racism in the Catholic Church.

It was obviously in reference to sanctimonious bullies who thought their knowledge of scripture was enough and that science could reveal nothing.
or maybe you are reading him incorrectly, I guess there are some of my quotes that makes me sound like an atheist but without context it can be anything.

Not that I wish to get into an argument about the Catholic Church, least not with you, whom I just happen to have immense regard for with your intelligent reasoning I daresay, but there clearly were times when the Catholic Church did oppose ideas (and not only scientific ones) that were contrary to those held by the Church, and some of those who held them were classified as heretics.

I hold the position that the explanation of the universe and how it came about as depicted in the Bible was early day 'science', a position I have defended on here somewhere. But like all scientific explanations, they are subject to revision when we see further than the earlier scientists did. The Catholic Church, more so than some, has learnt this lesson hence The Catechism of the Catholic Church asserting "Methodical research in all branches of knowledge, provided it is carried out in a truly scientific manner and does not override moral laws, can never conflict with the faith, because the things of the world and the things of faith derive from the same God". I have not yet come across a Catholic ignorantly insisting the world is 6000 years old or that evolution is a myth for instance, as some do. In fact, to some, the Catholic Church itself is heretic and ought to be on my list!

Thanks for the information about Nicholas of Cusa. Giordano Bruno's influences were rather vast, and also included Giovanni Pico della Mirandola (24 February 1463 – 17 November 1494) an Italian Renaissance nobleman and philosopher, and Marsilio Ficino (19 October 1433 – 1 October 1499) an Italian scholar and Catholic priest and influential humanist philosophers of the early Italian Renaissance, as well as Arab astrology (particularly the philosophy of Averroes), Neoplatonism, Renaissance Hermeticism, and Genesis-like legends surrounding the Egyptian god Thoth. It is his vast learning that has been my influence and makes him my favorite, though I daresay, almost on par with Jesus Christ. I guess my approach to him was via hermeticism, so Nicholas Cusa may be somewhat under my radar, but he most definitely was an important influence on him, as you've made me aware, and which I am most grateful for.

Please continue making the dissemination of such things a goal. When we read that "we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places", some of us do think it is this stony ignorance that we fight with our girted loins, our breastplate of righteousness and shod feet and shield of faith and helmet of salvation - the armour of truth that we deploy to quench the fiery darts of the wicked who peddle ignorance that leads to perdition. As Christ said, some give stones when asked for bread, so some take duty to speak boldly to make all things known. And whether we be followers of Paul, or followers of Apollos or are heretics or atheists or Catholics or Christians or Muslims or whatever else we may be considered to be, in as much as we are people of the world, Grace is with those that love the truth in all sincerity.
1. The Catholic Church was certainly opposed to whatever it considered against the Christian faith but a consistent look at the church and science lead me to be assured that for the church science is not a enemy of religion, not today, not 500ys ago or 1000years ago very few scientist gets the stick because from the time of Augustine the church has been clear that the bible isn't a science book and reference events as the science of it time allowed, hence the allegorical interpretation is used if the literal conflict with the scientific, that rule date back to at least the 4th and 5th century which is why science was not the problem of the inquisition.

2. Even the scientific method, the Big Bang and many more was developed by Catholic scientist, why would Catholics deny that even though we know even science doesn't have all the answers. And there exist alternative theories.

3. I believe God is truth, if we do seek the truth in all sincerity I believe we will end with him.

Have a pleasant day

you need to go back and read up the council of Nicaea, it was a councIL of bishops, if there was no Christianity where did Constantine get the bishops from? Funny enough you said there were two options, how come Christianity was an option when you claim it hadn't been formed, Mithra was never discussed at Nicaea and after the council was open Constantine took a back seat

As usual you are twisting the word of God. Jesus was referring to the Church as an insistution and not just one Church especially not your Church.
Jesus Christ formed just one church not many denominations, there is ONE faith as there is ONE Lord and One baptism. Not denominations, in fact denominations are sinful according to the Bible. So yes the passage is speaking of the church as an institution and that institution is that which was established by Christ and his apostles, I. E the Catholic Church.

JMAN05:
I dont know where you got the understanding that Jerome posited that apocryphal should not be read. I think Rufinus did say that. Jerome from my understanding is saying you can read it, but not as an authority as we do to the inspired scriptures.

2. Jerome's letter to Laeta was on the education of her daughter. In other words, books to rely on for education of the child. That is not to say she was to carry all rose books and give to her when she is still a child for her to read. Don't misunderstand that point.

3. From what I read in your comment, it seems we come to some agreement. My point is that Jerome never viewed the writing in addition to the 22 as inspired and authoritative. The issue seem to be on the word "apocrypha". Well, if you agree that Jerome never viewed those books as inspired and authoritative as Genesis Exodus etc, am very much OK with that. That's my point irrespective of the word used.
1. That means you are ignorant of Jerome's attitude to the apocryphal, he taught that they shouldn't be read and brought great harm, I already quoted that but for the dueterocanon he says they are rightly read for edification.

2. As for your point 2 you have simply agreed with me, that is a list for the education of a child not an exhaustive treatment on the canon.

3. I have been clear that Jerome did call them scripture and thus inspired, I have also been clear that Jerome regarded them as having lesser authority than the protocanon, the same way jews classed the Torah above the prophets and writings.

I have also been happy to remind you that Jerome is one church father and that as usual the council overrides any single individual.

Well the Bible is no more a book that's based on laws like do this and don't do that stuff my friend. Before Jesus came, Israelites were to live by the divine laws but when Jesus arrived as the Messiah or Christ everything changed!
Jesus taught His own followers by examples, He lived by principles whichb He Himself actually taught! So to address your TWO QUESTIONS
*God told the Israelites never to imitate any of the customs or traditions of those pagans HE is driving away before them. Before and after the commissioning of Christianity, you can never see a worshipper of God celebrating birthday because it's the custom of pagans. Genesis 40:20, Matthew 14:6
*Jesus is the foundation of Christianity, so the first century Christians restricted all their celebrations to that which He laid down for them, that's why people hated them back then just as other nations hated the Israelites for restricting themselves to whatever their God says. John 17:14
Satan is a REAL person and he is responsible for misleading all the nations of the earth(2Corinthians 4:4,1John 5:19) how? It's simply by festivities, customs and traditions that will draw them away from God UNKNOWINGLY! 1Corinthians 10:19-22
Whoever wants to feel free as in participating in any festivity of his/her choice can't truthfully remain a Christian(2 Timothy 4:10) because you won't know when you're going to the extreme and Satan is a master in the game! No wonder Jesus admonished His OWN followers to keep following His footprint. When you hear the slogan "Jesus is Lord" many love reciting it often but the true meaning eludes their senses. It simply means you can't just participate in anything you like since you're STRICTLY walking on the footprint of Jesus, you have to meditate thoroughly on every thought, words and actions of the one you're calling "Lord" otherwise JESUS won't count you as one of His sheep(those who only act on Jesus' orders)! Matthew 15:9
After Jesus came the Holy Spirit said this.

Col 2:16

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

I can’t be going back and forth with you..... now you sounding pained, take it easy.

I said Eastern Orthodox Church sir,

Anybody with internet can get the history of the origin of the bible, I mean anybody and don’t act like you got information not available to the public(those kind of information are locked up in a secret library in Rome that even most cardinals cant access)

Anybody can read the bible and understand with the help of the Holy Spirit, and you will be playing yourself if you think or believe that the Holy Spirit is found or available only to catholics cos at the end of the day God is not interested in which set you belong to be it Anglican or Pentecostal.

Your last paragraph really got me laughing, Legion of Mary is both good and holy .... what makes it holy sir educate me? Is it biblical? You talking about intercessory or mediating, if you claim to know the bible so well wouldn’t you have known that 1 Timothy 2:5 says? JESUS is the only mediator between man and God and nobody in between wasn’t that what Jesus died for? ( and pls don’t tell me about that wedding at Canaan that happened before the death if at all)

I have some questions for you sir...

- Do you know Praying repetitive words using Rosary beads is forbidden.

If you truly read your bible you should have Seen that in Matthew 6:7

- why does the pope have to choose who are to be called saint and who aren’t ? Was the average Christian in the church at Philippi called a saint, in distinction to bishops and deacons? You can check these scriptures to confirm 1 Corinthians 1:2, Philippians 1:1 .......Maybe you missed them when you read your bible sir

- Do you know every according to the bible every bishop must be married? Check 1 Timothy 3:2-5 How come the Pope woke up on morning and felt celibate men commit less sin and ban priests from getting married also see what the bible says regarding those dogma and culture against marriage Timothy 4:1-3

- Do you know Baptism is full immersion in water, not sprinkling? It’s still in your bible

- Do you know the Dogma and culture originated by the pope is forbidden by God? It’s in your bible in Mark 7:7-9

Let me not even go into the Bowing, knelling and kissing of images of Jesus and Mary both at the grotto and on good Friday ( also practised in Legion of Mary and almost every society in the Catholic Church)

Let me no go into infant baptism too.

I can go on and on and on..... before i left the Catholic Church I wrote over 1000 of such practises that were against what the bible says.

If you truly read that bible you would have seen so much contradiction, ask questions and do a lot of thinking.

I bet you don’t even know the connection between the Catholic Church (Jesuit priest) and the Freemasonry.......

The deception is real my brother.... peace be with you.
the eastern orthodox church wasn't there either, that church had not even been formed.

All this long story doesn't remove the fact that you lied

Christianity is about Jesus of Nazareth, the young man who lived nearly 2000 years ago.
He is the one referred to as Christ or Messiah or Anointed or Chosen.
The group name Christians is derived from Christ, so it simply means Christlike, if you're truly a Christian,
*You must not carry weapon for any reason. Matthew 26:52.
*You must stay clear from politics. John 6:15
*You must be obedient to rulers but say NO when their orders contradicts scriptural principle. Matthew 22:15-22,Acts 5:29
*You must see those having the same faith with you as your brothers and sisters,so a Catholic member from Nigeria shouldn't take up weapons to kill a Catholic member from Ghana for no reason whatsoever! Matthew 12:47-49
*You mustn't bow before any images be it that of Mary, Peter,Saints or even the Cross! Exodus 20:4,5, Matthew 4:10
*You must not call anyone a Christian brother, if such a person marries more than one wife! 1Timothy 3:12
*You must make it clear to all those listening to you that "they must also become zealous evangelizers of God's kingdom message" 2Timothy 4:1,2
Of course all those who lived before Jesus aren't doing these because they lived when the Messiah (Christ) has not come to establish the way to salvation, that's why Jesus could rightly say NONE of them including John (the Baptist) is qualified to enter God's kingdom! Matthew 11:11 So they're NOT Christians!
They will later be resurrected and taught all these principles(Revelations 20:11-13) then whoever bow to the instructions from God's only begotten son among them will be allowed to enter God's kingdom, but whoever disagrees will die THE SECOND TIME meaning never coming back again! Revelations 20:14,15
The Catholic Church is a religion based on human reasoning, that's why it's impossible to conquer racism amongst them! So they're NOT Christians.

This might be the case today Uben, but it sure wasn't the case where some of the heretics we've mentioned here are concerned when people were burnt for stating scientific truths that contradicted the church's "religious truth".

The fact that the Church don't take to similar attitudes today of placing religious truth above scientific truth is a credit to science and its methods and is attested to by the fact that there are hardly modern heretics, per se. Not many accept religious evidence above the observable, even in the Church.

Catholic Church and science is somewhat balanced on the issue.
actually it has always been the case, the Catholic Church has always pioneered, sponsored and promoted the sciences.

Except for Galileo I can't find any other scientist who was punished for his science, instead the attitude of the church has been that the Bible teaches how to get to heaven and not necessarily the science of it. The exceptions to this attitude are few and far between.
