budaatum:not really... Those sentiment are not heretic, similar words were spoken by Bonaventure, he is actually a saint... A lot of Catholics today will say same it has no hint of heresy in it. Catholicism believe in faith and reason hence the church was the owner of much of the universities and was the sponsor for most scientist in Europe... We move from what is known (proven science) to what is less known.... Those sentiment won't put anyone in trouble with heretic hunters |
LordReed:defying the church ke, it is pretty hard to prove anyone is a homosexual, unless you meet him in the act. There was nothing for him to be accused of. A lot of people at that time could be unmarried, one can't just imagine that each one is a homosexual |
budaatum:his ideas were not that new. Bruno was a disciple of cardinal Nicholas of cusa, his interesting ideas were actually borrowed from the cardinal who had an uncanny intuitive mind that made him believe stuff that would take centuries before science could prove. Despite bishop Nicholas unorthodox ideas about the world he was elevated to cardinal and had no problem teaching what he believed... It was like corpernicius and Galileo, while the former actually had a good response to his theory and was supported by the Pope the latter who adopted the theory ran into trouble. Nicholas had the scientific ideas I was loved but Bruno had some other religious ideas that led to his condemnation |
Anas09:even Jesus ate with the Pharisees, that means he acknowledged them as humans, that is how he came to have many of those teaching opportunities with them. Good thing they still prayed in the same temple as the jews did you notice them? Ecumenism doesn't ask for that much |
StormInc:first the thread you earlier posted have responses by Catholics. Secondly the image below is justified by the fact that in the Bible images of cherubs were made and people prostrated in front of them, if that is not idolatry neither is this. In both cases the image portray God's glory and so it is not the image that is venerated of itself but what it represents. |

StormInc:the quote is probably from someone's private meditations it is not from church documents, if you wish to know what that quote come from then you have to find the owner of the meditations. The titles aka the mysteries are catholic doctrines and I will gladly explain those. The first mystery is the resurrection of Jesus found in all the gospels and in the writings of the early Christians. Second mystery is the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven found in the Bible and in the writings of early Christians. Third the descent of the Holy Spirit found in acts 2 and in the writings of early Christians. Fourth mystery is the assumption of Mary meaning that after Mary's time was completed was taken by Jesus Christ into heaven, in fulfilment of the enmity and victory prophesied in gen 3:15, this is not explicitly taught in the Bible but is found in the writings of early Christians and their liturgy. Fifth is the coronation based on scripture that promised a crown for the Saints and upon the fact that Mary of mother of the davidic king and thus queen mother, it is thus based implicitly on scripture and is found in the writings of early Christians. |
DAramis:I certainly will, I had already typed the response on my phone but I lost the post, I'll do it again. |
Kingdante:the fact that many Catholics are born into Catholicism means that the early missionaries have done a great job and Catholics are very much alive in transmitting their faith to the next generation which is a good thing. Secondly the Catholic Churches I frequented last year at Easter had lost of adult baptism, one was exclusively adults that other had over 20 adults baptising as Catholics. funny enough Catholics are encouraged to ask questions usually parishes organises several retreat every year with public asking of questions, again it is faith seeking understanding. |
Kingdante:funny enough Catholics have been on the topic, catholic do read the Bible and they have a plan that finishes the Bible every 3 years. There have equally been protestants who after studying the same bible end up in the Catholic Church many are even pastors. This manner of speaking you adopted is largely disparaging, I'm such you won't be happy if other people adopted the same tone when discussing with you. It is also instructive to note that the Catholic Church does not use the Bible alone, we are the church who put together the Bible, we were already existing before the Bible, having people who were taught directly and ordained directly by the apostles. So we do not only hold to their writing word we also hold to their spoken word which has always been believed and taught by the church. That is why even the Bible says to hold on to the word whether writing or spoken that has come from the apostles and it also says to know who your teachers are. For that reason there are many things that are not in the Bible in fact the word bible can't be found in the Bible, nor is the word trinity, hypostatic union but they are either implied there or at least not contradicted in the Bible. What I am confident of though is that the idea of denomination is expressly condemned in the Bible. |
StormInc:the Catholic Church is not a mosque, it is very easy to get to and find a priest, tell him you have certain questions about Catholicism and he will be glad to sit down with you and discuss them point by point. We don't kill people for asking questions, infact catholic priests have office hours for exactly that reason so they are easily reachable. In Catholicism you are allowed to question everything, you can begin from the ground and work it up it is called "faith seeking understanding ", that is why there is theology to explain what we believe. |
Kenekingisback:that excuse is actually not useless, did a whole American not complain that it's electronic process was tampered with? They can be hacked and that is the truth, Nigeria has not developed the capacity to handle such eventualities |
Nodogragra4me:sales of books in the church is still marketing so too is bazaar, the book you BOUGHT were SOLD and PROFIT was made, the good effect was that the book edified you. In bazaar people BUY small things with huge sums knowingly because it is to support the work of the church, the good effect is that the poor is helped and church projects financed. Funny enough there is a close biblical precedent, it is called redemption in the Old Testament, the easy one is when you can't carry your tithes to the temple because it is huge, you sell it off and carry money instead, there is also a way to redeem aka buy back your first born etc, in this case the offering during harvest is too much most can't be consumed and others the church has no need of so they are taken outside the church and sold off and the money is giving for the needs of the church. Of course you can find fault if you want but if you support the same sales of books and condemn bazaar then you are a hypocrite, sales is sales |
Nodogragra4me:don't start giving me titles on nairaland please. Many here have already giving you the reason for the bazaar, if that isn't good for you, I doubt my reasons will. |
PaChukwudi44:lol, He just provided the site, he thinks every catholic site is called a "missal ". |

StormInc:I have checked it and the source you posted is not a catholic missal, at best it seems like the private meditations of someone which was pasted on that site |
StormInc:yes dear, I am clearly saying it is not from a catholic missal simple. |
StormInc:you should know the site you got it from because that isn't from any church document. |
StormInc:they are not from a catholic missal simple, highest it should be somebody's private revelation or meditations |
DAramis:this is another issue, most times these questions about are just bait for close minded argument with everyone talking past the other. I have seen such before and frankly I hope it is not one of such predetermined mindset questions. |
OLAADEGBU:something close to that |
StormInc:ok, I am a Catholic and I'll be happy to answer your questions about the Catholic faith. Sorry I haven't been on NL for sometime now and it seems my fellow Catholics haven't been around either. First I have to ask you where you got those quotes from because those are not from the Catholic missal, I know because I do own a missal, it is not even from a recognisable church document so please where did you get them from. Even though I can't place the quotes, the titles are referring to catholic doctrines which I believe, if you need the historical context of those doctrines (not some quotes that can't be placed) I'll happily provide just ask though I imagine I will be slow since I am pretty busy. |
IamJix:so whenever he gives he should call d press? For d fun of it i just asked google, it says mbakas ministry has a charity arm calling multilive saver, he caters for over 5,000 students in each academic year, doles out million to settle hospital bill for d poor etc, he is also an employer of labour abt 10,000, he recently recieved an award from the U.S congress in recognision of his humanitarian and educational services plus philantropy to d poor. |
IamJix:I dont disagree, he went too far, no catholic priest should force people to give publicly, as for politics i believe it is d job of ministers to speak truth to power and prophecy is a totally different animal but i am grateful his superiors are ther to curb human excess. But i certainly dont agree with d insult campaign either, calling him self acclaimed, implying he doesnt give or calling him names are not acceptable. |
IamJix:TAKE A BUS GOING TO ENUGU, stop at holy ghost you'll find buses going to his adoration ground chikena. |
Wonders10:He is not self acclaimed, no catholic priest can be termed such, he was ordain by a bishop b4 thousands of people, he was anointed and hands laid on him, first as a deacon, then as a priest and thus acclaimed by the entire church to be a man of GOD. Not self acclaimed, it is not hard to find out who ordained him. |
ruggedtimi:You can go to enugu and take statistic, it usually is not hard to find somebody who knows people who recieved aid from him |
IamJix:There are many like you who he pays school fees for. giving is not his problem. |
Baroba:you think it is easy to derobe a catholic priest? do u imagine that derobing is a joke? |
Nodogragra4me:Care to explain what u mean without the name calling? |
blueAgent:that can only happen if Jesus is a liar who can't fulfill his promise. Jesus promised to be with the church till the end of time, he promised the gates of hell would NEVER prevail against his church. Jesus can never lie, as he promised the gate of hell can not prevail, i know his church can not be hijack, that mean u are the liar who do not believe in the promise and assurance Jesus gave as regard his church. u dont believe what Jesus says. |
