CultureRe: Oyibo Or Oyinbo..which Of Them Is Correct? by Ufeolorun(m): 4:11pm On Mar 16, 2012
odumchi: I prefer "oyibo" as opposed to "oyinbo" simply because it maintains the original feel of the word. The word "oyibo" itself was a nickname given to Europeans by Igbo people since they found it difficult to pronounce "onye Igbo" and instead said "oyi ibo" when referring to Igbos.

Oyinbo just sounds weird to me but I guess it's a matter of preference.
Oyinbo is two words joined together that's rooted in Yoruba language hence makes more sense than your onye igbo story but your story is funny though
. lol
Yin=scratch bo=peel. I think the first yorubas who saw the white men thot they have peeled skin that's why they looked reddish hence Oyinbo

Ogbeni razist,
Aregbe isn't a seccessionist ok!.why would he want Nigeria broken when Oodua republic is achievable within Nigeria,we can always enjoy the benefit of being Nigerians and also integrate our communities from Ogbomosho to Owoh-madeh.
What would an Oodua republic offer us that we can't get in Nigeria?
The republic is already there, present within this current contraption.

PoliticsAregbesola,Ooni, Sultan, Bayero, Others Renew Calls For Nigeria’s Unity *nigeria Can Be Great. by Ufeolorun(op): 1:43pm On Mar 12, 2012
By GBENGA OLARINOYE
OSOGBO—In the wake of a heated
debate on national unity with particular
reference to disagreement between
some northern elements and their
southern counterparts over derivation
and fiscal federalism, some traditional
rulers in the country including the
Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saa’ad
Abubakar and the the Ooni of Ife, Oba
Okunade Sijuwade, have advised
Nigerian leaders to drop all
impediments to national unity and work
together for the overall development of
the country and ensure cooperation
among the diverse ethnic groups.
Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who hosted
the eminent traditional rulers, the Emir
of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, the Emir of
Zauzau, Dr. Shehu Idris, and other
traditional rulers from the state, to a
reception at the Government House,
Osogbo, also added his voice to the call
saying, “Since there is no other country
we can call our own, Nigerians have a
duty to ensure the continued
cooperation of all entities for peace and
progress.”
The governor, who had been accused
of championing a secessionist agenda
because of his belief in regional
integration, said, “I want to seize
opportunity of this visit to call on all our
political leaders, spiritual leaders,
military leaders and traditional leaders
to drop whatever it is that is beclouding
our focus to build a virile, united,
country that we shall be proud of.
I commend the sacrifice and
commitment of these leaders. Nigeria
is a star in Africa. We all must rally
round that focus, that potential to
make it not just a mere big nation but a
nation that is big in population, big in
size and big charting a course for all
the black people of the world.”
Aregbesola commended the role of
traditional rulers in the country.
He said: “We can be great. Our
traditional rulers are already showing
us the path to greatness. Unity is the
basis of progress. Let all of us come
together and work towards the
progress, development and peace of
our nation. We have no other country
we can call our own Nigeria is ours.
And willy-nilly, we will be accountable
for what becomes of it. It is our desire
for our nation to be as great as other
nations that are great. And for the
greatness to happen there must be
stability. A major implication of this is
the fact that today; there are some
issues in the core of the North,
particularly Kano. So, if the Emir of
Kano would leave the instability there,
take the time to visit us here at this
moment, it is a major sacrifice that
must be recognised.”
Responding, the Emir of Zauzau, Dr.
Shehu Idris, said that for centuries,
traditional rulers had provided a way to
promote unity among the ethnic
communities in the country, stressing
that the unity of Nigeria was not
negotiable.

Gideonyte,
I am not against resource nationalism cos it will reduce corruption where there's no oil but the argument for  resource control is getting worn out and will become stale by the time the real picture of what's going on now comes out,
Right now and at this moment the oil wells belong to the federal government of Nigeria. People have grown up with, and depended on the fact that  the oil belong to all Nigerians, its now left for those who think its fair for them control it to convince others who have grown with a  sense of entitlement to the oil.I think part of the convincing should be the proper usage of the concessions currently enjoyed but a situation where you approach for more concession using this same excuse as before is unacceptable.
The continuous insult and threat being thrown at other Nigerians too won't get them anywhere and that's a fact.
PoliticsRe: S-south Youths Urge Oil Firms To Relocate Headquarters To N-delta by Ufeolorun(m): 8:37pm On Mar 07, 2012
The Federal Government is planning to spend a total of N305 billion to execute projects in the Niger Delta and run interventionist agencies for the region this year, an analysis of the 2012 budget has shown.
At least 29.6 per cent of region-based Federal projects for the year, valued at about N116.5 billion, will go to the six South-south states which are among the nine Niger Delta states, according to an analysis by a House of Representatives caucus.
In addition to this, the Niger Delta region will benefit from a number of other the Federal allocations through the interventionist ministry, the NDDC agency and the Amnesty programme to the tune of about N189 billion.

Out of this figure, the Niger Delta Development Commission will get a statutory transfer of N54.69 billion, the Ministry of Niger Delta will receive nearly N60 billion and N74 billion has been budgeted for the Amnesty programme for ex-militants.

And the greed continuous.please lets pay more attention to the  laulau allocation on amnesty alone. This resource control issue has now turned a joke.

@Ufeolorun agreed dat crude oil is not a product of the hardwork of any man. But hope you know how drilling for oil has affected the ecosystem of the SS/SE. While you the comfort of your unviolated SW folks in the Niger Delta are going through hell bc u have to be fed. 22 yrs ago an oil spillage in Bori rendered 4eva useless a huge plot of land owned by my family. I do not need to mention how that affected the economy of my family. I have to ask you, have u gone through any thing like that?
Read what i wrote very well.I have no problem with policy geared towards  making life easier for those who feel the impact of crude exploration don't get me wrong,in fact i support the idea that the !3% goes straight to the local governments where exploration happens.I fully support resource control for one single reason;oil has made politicians from from my neck of the woods very corrupt and has  also disconnected our people from the age-long love  for political engagement.I know by the time they go back to cocoa farm, them no born the father of any politician well to try steal or deceive them.
Don't pull the rug from under the feet of any state until the federal system is restructured and a moratorium instituted to allow states innovate on how they gonna survive without federal money.
The issue of offshore oil-exploration  should also be addressed properly. The idea of calling people parasite isn't right cos no state in Nigeria is really productive.
PoliticsRe: Budget: North Rejects Southsouth’s Vote On Revenue Formula by Ufeolorun(m): 4:45pm On Feb 28, 2012
Jonathan is the president of Nigeria and he needs to set the country on the part of proper federalism and if he's unwilling to do this he has no moral right to continue this miss-allocation,its unfair and really unjustified.I am with the northern caucus on this and i think the SW caucus should join them.
13% derivation, fine know problem,Nddc fair enough,Niger-delta ministry huhdoes not make any sense to me and now this.
Restructure the country so people can start looking inwards if you cannot or you are not willing to then stop this unjustified nepotism.

The usual noise making and rants of calling others parasite is absolutely senseless taking into consideration that the crude isn't  the result of the hard work of any man.We are all parasite dependent on crude nature provided.

PhysicsQED:
I think the claim may have something to do with Oben: http://www.edo-nation.net/2006okpa5.htm

But I doubt that any oil wells were actually appropriated from Edo state. I think Oshiomhole is grandstanding and feigning indignation over a non-existent problem and has been misinformed. I may be wrong, but I doubt that there is a real case here.

What do you mean "unproven"? How is he supposed to "prove" that what he said happened?  huh huh With secret audiotapes, photographs, and documents?

He named some names and made very specific accusations about the actions of specific people. The only thing that doesn't count for much is the idea that a totally unknown octogenarian concocted this story for no other reason than to expose himself to possible public squabbles/disputes or public embarrassment while in his golden years.

A suit alleging libel is definitely something that has  to pass a formal test of scrutiny.

The only groups in Akoko-Edo that could be confused for Yoruba are the Ebiroid groups. Can anyone here name any one actual Yoruba group in Akoko-Edo for the edification of the rest of us? Merely speaking Yoruba does not make one Yoruba just as speaking Hausa does not suddenly make one Hausa. Groups in the Middle Belt that speak Hausa instead of their own languages are still not Hausa.

And names are not a definite indicator either. There are some Igbo and Yoruba with Edo last names, but they are Igbo and Yoruba and don't claim to be Edo.

That said, I think Afemai really applies to Owan and Etsako, not to all the groups in Edo north, so I agree with you that that wikipedia entry is probably not accurate. That doesn't mean that Akoko Edo is actually Yoruba though.
You need to give up man.lol!
Non-Hausa People in the north who speak housa  don't give their children housa names notoriously (like the Akoko-edos do with yoruba ).Don't confuse Arabic names with Hausa names,a lot of them(N. minorities) are Moslems.
Akoko edo area consist of different groups, among them are people who speak a form of yoruba and bear undiluted yoruba names.
Its an insult to these people to say or infer that they copy stuffs or names that's basically their culture.
The bamideles,Oguntoyes, Olawales in Akoko-edo didn't borrow their names.its basically what they kno as theirs.
Why are they the only group in Edo state  with the word Edo attached to them/Lg?

coming from someone who comes from a region with the highest number of drug traffickers . highest number of nigerians in jail in south east asia.

http://allafrica.com/stories/200812020502.html

Tuesday, December 2, 2008
Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),  Mr Ahmadu Giade,   yesterday lamented the rising  profile of hard drugs related   cases in the South-east,  saying that   the agency  had begun an awareness campaign  to address the problem.
Giade  at a press briefing in Enugu  to flag off  the South -east Zonal awareness campaign on the prevention of illicit drug crop  cultivation said that  the  South-east  accounts  for the  highest  number of drug traffickers in the whole country, adding  that  the crime is being perpetrated by a  few  misguided individuals in the society.
According to him,  “The South-east  from our records has the highest number  of drug traffickers in the country. At  the Murtala/Mohammed International Airport in  Lagos from where  the agency arrested 165 suspected drug traffickers between January and October 2008, 95 of them nbsp; are from the South-east, representing 57.6 percent of the total arrests.
“At  the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport  Abuja where    88 suspected drug traffickers were successfully intercepted within  same corresponding period, 56 out of those arrested are also from the South East representing 63.6 percent.”
He disclosed that what was amazing was that available statistics also show that over 98 percent of drug suspects arrested by  his agency  at the airports were found to have ingested deadly drugs like cocaine and heroin.
“Unfortunately, they engaged in this suicidal and ignoble act for 'peanuts'. Sadly enough, they realised that their action not only endangers their precious lives but also brings the image of our country to disrepute, ” he said.
Giade disclosed that between January and October this year, a total of 1,138 suspects were arrested  with  a total of 2, 877.911 kilogrammes of various narcotic drugs, which according to him were  mainly cannabis.
He disclosed that  a total number of 115 suspects  arrested were prosecuted and all were found guilty and convicted.
But  he  expressed concern  that  the situation  is  taking a dangerous trend since  the cultivation of the drugs have started in the South East.
He said,  “This area, which has gained notoriety in illicit drug trafficking, has also recorded so me cases of cannabis cultivation and abuse. For example, the Abia and Imo commands destroyed about four acres of cannabis farm while a total of 506 persons with drug abuse problems were successfully counseled and rehabilitated in the South East.”
According to NDLEA boss, the fear was that the situation could be worse if they do not give it priority attention it deserves.
Noting that the people of the South East  were known all over the  world for their  ingenuity and hard work,  he  however cautioned that the hard earned reputation must not be soiled by  the few lazy ones  engaged in drug trade.
You started here;https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-877453.0.html
You should be ashamed of yourself for unnecessarily dragging one of the states which virtually made the western region a successful and rich one in the mud,you r a shame for allowing  people whose home and surrounding can never be compared to what Ondo has to offer to  chat nonsense about the state. The internet has provided a platform for some of these guys to anonymously vent their frustrations on their supposed enemy, the victim-hood/us v.them mindset is real  and they are ready to go to any level of dirt even without a push from childish poster like you.
