My brother, is there any group in Nigeria that is not marginalized?

The North have ruled this country for so long, what can they show for it in terms of development. It is a common knowledge that the South is more developed than the North.

Touch a Yoruba man, he will tell you he is marginalized. The same goes for the Niger deltans, the Tivs, the Ebira and so on. In as much as I believe in part in what Nnamdi Kanu is doing, however, his approach and agendas are questionable.

Ask yourself, how many igbos did he consult before embarking on this fight. unlike Ojukwu who has a solid reason for his fight, Nnamdi Kanu does not.
Other groups who are marginalized by the North have a choice to continue suffering the marginalization or opt out. We have chosen to secede from Nigeria. That the North has nothing to show for how long they have been ruling Nigeria according to you, is not a tangible reason we should continue being marginalized by them. I dont know of any other agenda NNAMDI KANU has. His agenda to lead us out of the stranglehold of Nigeria is what I and majority of Igbo's support. NNAMDI KANU is not fighting any war, he is agitating peacefully for Biafra to secede from Nigeria. It is funny to say NNAMDI KANU did not consult a lot of Igbos before his freedom struggle according to you, yet about 90% support him. He does not need to consult anybody. Igbos are long fed up with being in Nigeria and a leader emerged in the person of NNAMDI KANU. My point is that NNAMDI KANU did not commit 'sin' in being uncompromising and fearless in his efforts for Biafra to secede from Nigeria. Such insinuation of wrong doing is mere propaganda from the One Nigeria propagandists. It does not hold any water. Thanks.

And what 'sin' did NNAMDI Kanu commit? That he is an uncompromising, courageous freedom fighter, who risked his life and convenience for the marginalized people of the Southeast to be free from Nigeria. I may not like some of his comments and approaches, but he did the right thing. There may have been collateral damages to our people as a a result of the illegal onslaught from the people who do not want us to be free but that is all part of the price of freedom. Moses was not a sinner when he led the people of Israel out of Egyptian bondage. The people of Israel were even made to suffer more when Moses announced their impending freedom and they blamed Moses for their plight but their freedom eventually came to pass! (Exodus 5:4-23). SHAREWIDE=IPOB/ARMY: WHAT HAPPENED IN ABIA STATE EXPOSED.
THE REAL STORY!

Let me tell you what happened. You can go to the bank with it…

The five governors met with Nnamdi Kanu, asked him what his issues with Nigeria were.

He told them "We want a referendum".

They offered him money.

He refused.

They asked him if he will slow down at least for them to be reelected.

He refused. He stated clearly "there must be referendum."
The five governors stood infront of the press and promised to take his complaints to the presidency.

They met with the presidency.

They told Buahri “Mr. President, this guy cannot be bought. He wants Biafra by all means”.

Buhari asked them. "What can we do"?

They said. “We will give you Nnamdi Kanu, will you give us second tenure and allow us to loot?”
Buhari said “Deal”

They then devised a plan. In their plan, the army will come to Abia (and other eastern states) claiming they are going for Operation Python Dance 2.

Ikpeazu will then tell Kanu to relax that nothing is happening. He is covered. After Kanu has relaxed, then the army will attack.

This plan almost worked the first time. The plan also involved stationing the military all over South East to contain the Backlash after the assassination. However, something happened. The military men did not expect the boys at the compound not to run when they arrived. They were surprised at the suicidal nature of the boys ready to die to protect Kanu. So they retreated.

Ikpeazu again must act to make Kanu more relaxed so the army can then mount the second and last Maximum attack.
That was why Ikpeazu made the announcement about the Army withdrawing on Friday. That announcement was to induce Kanu to relax, sleep in his house and feel like he has been victorious. This will enable them attack, kill him and withdraw on Friday.

That attempt also failed. So Army was not happy and made an announcement on Friday indicating they will no longer withdraw.

They called the five governors and told them “You guys are not keeping to your side of the bargain”.

Now, they entered into their meeting and fabricated their last plan. “Let us proscribe IPOB, so Kanu will be shot at sight anywhere he is seen”.

My advice to Ndi Igbo. ... Kick these 5 governors out by all means.

PoliticsRe: Misconception About Rwanda Genocide And The Igbo Agitation by UnchangeableGod: 6:11pm On Sep 13, 2017
bilms:
Misconception about Rwanda genocide and the Igbo agitation
By Abdulrazaq O Hamzat

After the genocide experience in 1994, Rwanda continues. In remembering its dead population during the ugly tragedy, a museum was created in their honor with a bold inscription written on it ‘’Never Again’’. This is the best that has happened to those victims of human cruelty.

With the above understanding, it has become imperative for we at the Foundation for Peace Professionals to re-direct a certain misconception about the Rwanda genocide that is being thrown around by analysts, when they are commenting on the implication of ethnic based secessionist hate campaign in South East Nigeria, which may lead to similar thing as experienced in Rwanda.

While most commentators are right in quickly referring to the Rwanda Genocide experience in other to caution agitators about the consequences of their actions, it is important to bring us to another perspective that is yet to be properly looked at and fully appreciated.

In 1994, when the ethnic based hate campaign began in Rwanda, the total population of the country was just a little over 6 million.

Hate campaign by Hutu agitators against Tutsi eventually led genocide, which claimed almost 1 million lives in about 100 days. The casualty figure of lives lost within that short period of time is over 16% of the total population of the country.

Nigeria today has more than 180 million populations and 16 % of it is a little below 30 million.

What happened in Rwanda that year was the gruesome murder of innocent and defenseless 16% of its total population due to perceived filling of marginalization and expectation that the mass murder of another ethnic group may possibly lead to separation.

The question we must all ask is that, what happened to Rwanda after losing 16% of its population in mindless killing? Were the expectations of those who lead the hate campaign fulfilled? What does the 1 million lost lives amounted to?

The answer to the above questions remained a united Rwanda.

It was too late, when those who expected division as a result of the mass murder discovered that the killing of their fellow country men and women will not make a country divide. Those who also thought that instigating hatred against fellow country people will help them in their quest for separation were also disappointed. This point to the fact that, if you promote hatred against other ethnicity in your country for whatever reason, you have to be ready to live with the hate, because it won’t help you fulfill your separatist agenda.

In a report by UK Guardian to commemorate 20 years of the Rwanda genocide, victims were reported to have said, they now live in the same country with those who killed their families. The killers are our neighbors now." One respondent said.

Furthermore, one of the perpetrators of the hate campaign and killing, Thomas says he learned a lesson from the killing. In his views, "You find out killing is not a solution''. ''We killed thinking we would get something and we found out it only brought misery."

What they didn't want to do before, which is ''tolerance'' is what they have now learned to do the hard way. The people are now learning to tolerate the people they hate, though difficult, but necessary. This was made possible through the gacaca court arrangement.

The name Gacaca is derived from the Kinyarwanda word umucaca meaning “a plant so soft to sit on that people prefer to gather on it”. Originally, Gacaca gatherings were meant to restore order and harmony within communities by acknowledging wrongs and having justice restored to those who were victims.

After the conclusion of the Rwandan genocide, the new Rwandan government was having difficulty prosecuting approximately 130,000 alleged perpetrators of the genocide.

Originally, perpetrators of the genocide were to be tried in the ICTR (International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda); however, the vast number of perpetrators made it highly improbable that they would all be convicted.

Given that there was insufficient resources to organize first-world courts then the Gacaca system had to be preferred over the only alternative to the Gacaca system for local communities which might have been revenge. Rwanda implemented the Gacaca court system which necessarily evolved to fit the scenario from its prior form of traditional cultural communal law enforcement procedures.

What must be understood here is that, in this 21st century, any secessionist group that gained notoriety with hate speech is as good as a nuisance and misplaced agitation. It will never achieve its aim. Rwanda teaches us that, not even the death of 16% of the total population will change this fact.

In other words, you can instigate hate as much as you want in your agitation, you can even lead the country to war and genocide, but one fact is clear, you will never achieve anything. Not the separation, not the fulfillment. So why promote hatred among people on the basis of quest for separation?

Additional lesson learned from Rwanda is that, instigating hatred against fellow human being on the basis of ethnicity will not be rewarded by the global community. Hate speech is a crime in international law. The world didn’t reward Hutu’s in Rwanda; it won’t reward any other agitators in any part of the world.

The Nigerian Civil war, which claimed about 3 million lives, also offers another lesson. Despite losing that magnitude of casualties, the aims of the promoters of the war were never achieved. The global community will not aid personal ambition of individuals or groups, at the expense of the general good.

It is on this basis that the Foundation for Peace Professionals is calling on the leaders in South East region to prevail on their sons and daughters to allow reason prevail.

The need for peace cannot be over emphasized. All those who succeeded in their agitation across the world only did, because of their decency and peacefulness. The world saw that though they are agitating for a cause, but they did it decently within the confine of the international standard. The same cannot be said of the agitation in the South East. I appeal that we shouldn't allow Nigeria become a 21st century Rwanda, which only offers 16% of its dead population a slogan, never again.

Abdulrazaq O Hamzat is the Executive Director of Foundation for Peace Professionals.
www.fpp.com.ng
You are so wrong! The interest and agitation of about fifty million Igbos and their neighbours to peacefully separate from Nigeria is not personal interest. The interest of another region to be lording it over and marginalizing others in the name of one Nigeria is not in the overall good either. I do not support hate speech but no one talks about the injustice and genocide against his people smiling or laughing. It is ideal to be decent in our agitation but when you know that your subjugator does not understand decency, you employ aggression. Even God applied same principle in setting His chosen people of Israel free from the bondage of stubborn Pharaoh and the Egyptians. We support peace - peaceful separation. But from your writeup, your definition of peace and tolerance is that we continue to grudgingly allow subjugation and shortchanging of our people and interests. You are wrong sir. We do not want war. We want peaceful separation from Nigeria. It is those who do not want us to go that are associating our quest for freedom with war and threatening us with same. May God bless lovers of peace, justice and freedom. May those who want war and killings never get it and may those who want peaceful seperation achieve their aim I J N, Amen.

Just like I thought; exactly the trick you ppl use to deceive the gullible among you through distortion of the realities on the ground, because you already know that those you will sell these lies to are too lazy to bother to cross check.

So you think by just picking a few of the appointed positions to make an example is sufficient proof enough to justify your claim - how childish and myopic; do you think everybody is that gullible?

If you really wanted to be fair and honest, you would have provided the list of all the appoint-able positions, side by side with the list of who the president appointed along with a break down of their tribes/regions, to show how the Igbos were left out and marginalised by this administration.

Once again, I challenge you to prove otherwise - pls do the needful.

Your other point concerning quota system pertaining to school admission and employment are not relevant to the present argument; so I set them aside for now and not address them.
I thought your desire is to prove me wrong - that the president of our country, who made the famous quote 'I belong to everybody, I belong to nobody' is really not marginalizing any group. Of course, each of the Southeast States has a Minister according to constitutional requirements - Foreign Affairs (Enugu), Labour and Productivity (Anambra), Trade and Investment (Abia), Science and Technology (Ebonyi), Minister of State for Education (Imo) and the one given to Mr Joe Igbokwe (the Lagos State APC Spokesman). Aside that, there may be one or two other appointments (please I stand to be corrected). I make bold to say that the marginalization of the Igbos or the Southeast did not start today. They voted massively for former presidents Obasanjo and Yardua and what did they get compared to other major tribes? Yes, the CBN Governorship of Charles Soludo and the Ministry of Finance of Okonjo-Iweala who was later transferred (or demoted to Foreign Affairs) upon which she resigned. It was actually during Jonathan's administration that the Igbos got dome sense of belonging in appointments, though not in infrastructural development. The Igbo's have been the proverbial endangered species in Nigeria. So it is not peculiar to this administration. I understand that the Igbos massively supported Jonathan and rejected Buhari just like the Yorubas did to their kin Obasanjo in 1999 and the core North did to Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 and almost throughout his administration. I learnt, rightly or wrongly that some people hardly forgive either by their nature, upbringing, tribe or religion. President Muhammad Buhari is in charge and he has the right to do whatsoever he wants with the power given to him through popular votes. He also has the prerogative to appoint whosoever he wants into whatever position. Hoqever, my candid advice to him is that he should not abuse power or use it to victimize anybody or group for their dissenting views. If he wants to fight any societal ill, he should make it wholesome without partiality or with political motive. The country is seriously divided. If he really desires the peaceful coexistence and unity of this heterogeneous nation, he should as much as possible eschew tribalism, religious bigotry and every other form of discrimination. There is nothing anybody will do that everybody will applaud, but the president should remember that power is transient. May the Almighty God help our amiable president to do the right thing, take the country to the promised land and carve his name in gold I J N,

I thought you would say Amen but you didn't. You know the truth. There is nothing hidden about president Buhari's appointments, projects, priorities, body language and dealings since he was sworn in as president: All but two of the highest ranking military chiefs are northern Moslems, including the Minister Of Defence, the Minister of Interior, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief Security Adviser, the Inspector- General of Police etc - none is from the Southeast. Virtually all the most sensitive, influential and lucrative positions are controlled by northern Moslems with a few reserved for the Southwest. What about the Secretary to the Federal Government, the INEC Chairman, the EFCC Chairman, Minister of Petroleum Resources (who doubles as the president), the Minister of the Federal Capital GMD NNPC, the Accountant General of the Federation, Comptroller General of Customs etc. There was unexplainable delay in the confirmation of the current Chief Justice of Nigeria who happens to come from the South south causing needless tension until the providential emergence of an Acting President who took the bull by the horn. What about the external appointments that a sitting president influences one way or the other?: the UN Deputy Secretary General, the OPEC Secretary General- all from the Moslem north. Recall that one was recommended by the presidency for the African Union top position but did not win - also from the Nigerian Moslem North. Are all these coincidences? So none of the Southerners who happen to be more educated is eligible for any of these positions? What of the quota system of admission into Unity Schools whereby a child from Anambra or Ekiti is required to score 70 plus to gain admission while a child from Katsina or Zamfara can score less than 5 and get admission to the same school! Ditto with Universities. (This has been in practise for several years though it was not kick started by this current government). Yet when it comes to employment and government appointments, products of quota system are preferred! What of the Northeast Development Commission that is in place barely 7 years after Boko Haram boys destroyed their own place themselves whereas the Southeast that was destroyed by the Civil war from externak aggressors for more than 40 years has not been repaired despite Gowon's proposed three Rs. This is not to talk of the 2014 Confab Report that favours restructuring so that there can be fairness and more even development which the present government is reluctant to implement apparently because the status quo favours the North. This present government is glaringly favouring the North to the detriment of the South in several ways. There is no presumptions or assumptions, conjectures or innuendos about these takes of discrimination. It is real. This government is setting a precedent. I hope you will not complain when it becomes the other way round. Thanks.

Just stick to the issue at hand, which is about the content and intent of the president's (97% vs 5%) speech.
Here is the transcript of the speech; and if you are a good student of English Comprehension; then lets see how you or anyone can twist what he said and give it an entirely opposite meaning - just be honest for once.

Below is the text of the president’s statement in question. The ones in bold is the part that was deliberately left out.

“I hope you have a copy of the election results. Literally constituencies, for example, that gave me 97 per cent, cannot in all honesty be treated, on some issues, [the same way as] some constituencies that gave me five per cent. I think these are political realities.
While certainly there will be justice for everybody; everybody will enjoy their constitutional rights, where the party in constituencies that by either sheer hard work made sure they got their people [to vote] and ensure their votes count, they must feel that the government has appreciated the effort they put in putting the government in place. I think this is really fair.
[But] By the constitution, no state can be excluded from government, so there is no way even if I were to show gratitude to those constituencies that voted heavily for me against those that didn’t even vote for me, they have the protection of the government. And I have made an undertaking that I belong to everybody, I belong to no body. If I come clearly and marginalise a certain group because they didn’t vote for me then I have already contradicted myself and I am sure people will be quick to pick that against me.”

Here is also the video clip for those who want hear directly from the horse's mouth and not rely on the above transcript.

Now lets analyse the entire speech: you will notice that the first part containing the 97% vs 5% merely lays the foundation concerning the expected political realities and norms of rewarding those who voted for you - i.e. that was what usually happens after such victory.

The middle part of his speech allayed the fears of anyone with such anticipation by referring the protection of the constitution.

The final and concluding part of his speech clearly spelt out his own intention on what he intended to do - which was NOT TO MARGINALISE ANYBODY by referring to his earlier quote of belonging to nobody and belonging to everybody.

How anyone could be so pathetically dumb to miss or misinterpret his clear message is amazingly shocking to say the least.
First and foremost, the 'reality' of treating some constituencies better because they voted for you is out of the question. It is only vindictive people who do so. Olusegun Obasanjo did not do so against the Southwest after the 1999 elections, Goodluck Jonathan did not apply this philosophy against the North after the 2011 elections in spite of northern protests and mayhem. Secondly, a leader is a leader of all after elections. It is not just the constitution that should force a leader to be fair to all and prove opponents wrong. Thirdly, the actions of the president so far in terms of appointments really contradicts his 'I belong to all' rhetorics. He has shown that he belongs firstly to the Muslims, to the North and the APC in that order before other Nigerians. Action, they say, speaks louder than words. Thanks.

Where did he say Igbo wasn't marginalised? He never said Igbo wasn't marginalised. What he said is, marginalisation of Igbo in Nigeria would be a child's play compare with what would happen within. In your church mind you know what he was saying is true. You know there are different sections in Igbo land and one would want to exert superiority over others when time comes.
You claimed every sections of Igbo agreed to the leadership of Ojukwu. Mr. Man, you're lost to what they are discussing here. There are differences between political leadership and secessional leadership. People join forces together by convenient during secession struggle but no political issue is not like that. People will always look out for what will favour their side and that's why you hear the common saying, politics is all about interest. Frankly speaking, it's same interest that birth Igbo agitation for secession and would also come up at the smaller unit, even at the family level. That's why you hear fight for kingship within same clan and even in the church. Fighting for space will always come up till kingdom comes.
In that case, it is not peculiar to Biafra. Just like in Nigeria and other parts of the world, a lot of people from varying interest groups would want to be president or governor at a time but just one person will clinch it at the end of the day. Others will then wait till the next election period. This has been the case in several Igbo and other Eastern states. So why make it sound like it doesn't happen elsewhere and using it to campaign against Biafra actualization. He has no point then. He only makes sense to those opposed to Biafra. But you can't do anything about it. Biafra is coming. We are ready to make mistakes and learn from it. Thanks.

Ipob or Kanu is just a political machinary, after the end of 2019 general election kanu will go silent. Note this bro
If KANU becomes silent, the demand for secession from Nigeria will not until Biafra is achieved. Note this bro.

This man is great.

He always threads the path that many fear.

I remember when he said Jonathan would lose 2015 election, despite being a friend to Jonathan and his wife, despite being a leader to a congregation where 90% was for Jonathan, without getting any financial support from Buhari, he said the mind of God.

He was punished for it, castigated, rubbished, humiliated, yet he continues to say the truth.

He is bold and strong.

I believe he is a true man of God.

He says everything without fear or favour. This his illustration reminds me of Sudan. When South Sudan thought secession would be the answer, alas, South Sudan is still fighting while North Sudan(Sudan) is in peace now.

Igbo, think twice. Ask for support, presidency, more inclusion, be friendly, attract investments, don't hoard your resources ( everything you own is 95% igbos', no nation develops like that).

That is the way forward, Biafra is not the answer.
He is wrong in saying Igbos are not being marginalized in Nigeria. He is also wrong is saying Igbos from some States will not allow Igbos from other States to become president. State creation is an artificial thing from the Nigerian military governments. Late Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu was from Nnewi, yet he was accepted by people from across Igbo land including the Efiks, Ogonis and Ijaws. I never heard anyone saying no to late Ojukwu's leadership because of where he hailed from. Thanks for your advice. In a few years, will hear about Biafra and you will shout waooooh!

Story story story!

how have the Igbo's been living for decades now before the evil contraption by lugard ? yet remain prosperous.

Mbaka is living in an imaginary world controlled by his allegiance to the evil machinations of the govt in power.

Intolerance is found in every part of Nigeria that is why from south to north you hear people talking of leadership positions by zoning.

Nigeria presently is a failed project concocted by the white man.

I don't support this argument. How were Igbos treating themselves for the over 900 years before the British joined them to Nigeria? Did the creation of Nigeria eliminate any problem the nations that formed the country had within before the British colonised us?

If you want to preach one Nigeria you should do so and not bring up imaginary reasons to foster unity. If Nigeria benefited everyone less calls will exist for secession. Just restructure this country, eliminate the problem of religion, and eliminate heterogeneity and all these calls will cease.

For me, I believe in Peace and Justice. I have no problem with anyone, no matter how silly they appear, wanting to secede. We can copy the Rwanda model to make Nigeria work. If they are not willing to act like Rwanda then they leave no choice for calls for secession. We have to sacrifice a lot for Nigeria to work and our leaders think this sacrifice only exist in words.
