It's a battle. The devil has come to kill, steal and destroy. That is the reason a holy family should at every time not give in to sin. Every slightest opportunity to sin is a way for the devil to penetrate.

Seun: No, it suggests that the Ten Commandments are not the timeless moral standard that they are made out to be. They were written for ancient Jews and not for modern Christians.
It says “don’t give false testimonies” instead of “don’t lie” because their entire legal system was based on testimonies. There was nothing like “forensic evidence”, “dna testing”, “checking alibis”, “defense attorneys” or “innocent until proven guilty”. If any two or three people (i.e. Jewish men) falsely accused you of murder, you would almost certainly be stoned to death.
If God existed, he would have taught them a thing or two about forensics because the commandment didn’t stop bad people from giving false testimonies. Modern research has shown that even honest testimonies are not very reliable because people often remember things incorrectly. You made a very valid point but 'spoilt it' with your "if God existed" phrase. If God does not exist, I would have remained a thief, a proud fellow, a fornicator etc. by now. It was only God that could have saved and changed my life in the early hours of Thursday, the 18th day of November, 1999. It is only God that could have healed me of ulcer, ear ache, pile, typhoid and upper respiratory tract infection completely without medical treatment. God exists. May He save you too before you die I J N, Amen. |

uuzba: After admitting your errors publicly, please be prepared to face the consequence of the errors you have propagated publicly as well.
In the Bible, Jesus says, "if any one of you causes of these little ones to sin, it is better he have a mill stone (granite rock for grinding pepper) tied around his neck and then be thrown into the ocean (the stone will drag him down the water and die there), for I tell you, their Angels (guardian Angel of little children) are always before God (closest to God among all others). - To commit error is easy. To pay back for The error you commuted is hard. It may be hard to publicly confess one's faults but it is not impossible. And for your information sir, God is not like man. He does not condemn neither does He punish those who genuinely repent of their sins, including the serious sin of leading people astray. No He does not. He forgives. If an armed robber or ritualistic for instance, who has wasted lives genuinely repents, God will forgive him or her. God's mercy and grace is so marvellous, great and encompassing! But this is not a licence for anyone to go ahead in evil, expecting to repent some day and be forgiven. You do not know when you will die. If you die in sin and wickedness, you will be damned for all eternity!! Apart from that, God cannot be mocked. |

gbadekunle: By Ebriku John Friday, Abuja
The University of Abuja has concluded plans to formally decorate the General superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry and Deeper Life Bible Church worldwide, Pastor WIlliam Folorunsho Kumuyi with an Honourary doctorate degree award. The occasion of the investiture of the degree honoris causa holds on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the auditorium building of the university Main Campus.
The State Overseer for the FCT church, Pastor Joshua Esho, who broke the news at the church’s weekly TuesdayLeadership Meeting, said the GS will be in Abuja to receive the award. Before letting the cat out of the bag, Pastor Esho said, “I cannot hid anything from you. Before you start reading it in the newspapers let me inform you. The University of Abuja will be decorating our father in the Lord, the GS with an Honourary doctorate degree Award on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Praise the Lord!” He stressed that the award, which has been approved by the governing council of the institution will be bestowed on the God’s General of our Generation, Pastor Kumuyi in recognition of his immense contributions toward the nation’s development, giant strides in advancing quality education, laudable impact in the academia, monumental achievements in the propagation of the gospel as a globally respected televangelist spanning over fourth years and his towering contribution towards the spiritual well being of the nation. The event which will be well attended will witness the presence of Deeper Life Bible Church National oversees, will attract the 36 state overseers and senior leaders in the church as well as long time friends and colleagues of the renown man of God. William Folorunso Kumuyi (born 6 June 1941) is the founder and General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church situated at KM 42 on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Nigeria. He is the author of several books. In the early 1970s Kumuyi worked as an education lecturer at the University of Lagos. Pastor W.F Kumuyi was born into a Christian family in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State, Nigeria. He completed his secondary school education in 1961, and in 1962 started teaching mathematics at Mayflower School in Ikenne, Ogun-State, from where he proceeded to the University of Ibadan and in 1967 graduated with a first-class honours degree in mathematics. He became a born-again Christian in April 1964. Kumuyi remarried in October 2010 in London, about 18 months after the death of his first wife, Abiodun Kumuyi whom he married in 1980. In April 2013, Kumuyi was named as one of the “500 most powerful people on the planet” and Deeper Christian Life Ministry named as “the World’s largest Megachurch” by Foreign Policy magazine (FP). More on PASTOR W. F. KUMUYI from the Church website A Math Professor is Called to Preach! In 1973, while serving as Math Lecturer at The University of Lagos, W.F. Kumuyi started a Bible study group with 15 university students who had come to him requesting training in the Scriptures. By the early 1980’s that small group had grown to several thousand, at which time Deeper Life Bible Church was formally established. By 1988 the congregation had grown to 50,000, and now numbers 120,000 members, making it the third largest Christian church in the world. Dr. Johan Combrinck reports that the Deeper Life Bible Church not only has an attendance of 120,000 every Sunday, but has planted 500 churches in Lagos, 5,000 in the rest of Nigeria (with an independent estimate of more than 800,000 members in Nigeria alone), and 3,000 elsewhere (with missionaries to 40 countries of Africa) as the movement missionary contribution. (Source: AFNET). Dr. C. Peter Wagner, in an article titled ‘Those Amazing Post-Denominational Churches’ wrote: “By far, the most rapidly growing segment of Christianity on all six continents is a type of church that does not fit traditional categories or classifications. Missiologists have recognized its presence for some time, but it is such a recent phenomenon that they have not yet agreed on a name for it. Perhaps one title that would fit is the term ‘post-denominational.” “Go to almost any metropolitan area and ask to visit the largest Christian Church. Chances are it will be one of these new post-denominational churches’. In Lagos, Nigeria, it would be the Deeper Life Bible Church, pastored by William Kumuyi. Onrecent Sunday I saw 74,000 adults worshipping together, with 40,000 children meeting in a separate building across the street.” (Apostolic Team Ministries, Intl., Newsletter 09). How Did It Happen? Journalist Alan Isaacson provides a helpful study of this phenomenal ministry in his book Deeper Life, talking with many members of the church who told him how Christ has miraculously intervened and changed lives in response to prayer and the proclamation of the Gospel. In Pastor Kumuyi’s own words: “God, in the growth of Deeper Life Bible Church, has strategically and prudently used miracles to make all men come to Him’ (John 3:26). We take Christian living and holiness seriously.” According to Isaacson, The history of Deeper Life is very much the personal story of W.F. Kumuyi. He is a gifted man, clear-thinking and humble. He is a dedicated Christian and deserves the title “the man of God,” which his followers have given him. Since he was a young man, Kumuyi has devoted his time to reading and studying the Bible. He knows the Scriptures inside out, and has struggled to understand and apply them. As he shares that struggle and his love for the word of God, so people have been drawn to him for advice, or simply to listen. When he preaches, his message is clear, simple, and profound. Poor street traders who can barely read sit next to university professors, all equally captivated by the way Scripture becomes suddenly relevant to them. Pastor Kumuyi’s own Christian life developed because he took the Bible so seriously, and so the Deeper Christian Life Ministry has developed in the same way. In Alan Isaacson’s own words, he “preached Deeper Life into existence.” His sermons were captivating, wrote Isaacson, “I would classify him as one of the greatest living preachers, giving a straightforward Bible-based message, his sermons thorough, and always personally challenging. He always gave a wide range of cross-references which were read in their context, supporting, clarifying and expanding his main points. He spoke clearly and authoritatively to the Nigerian situation. He dealt sensitively with African culture, but also made a firm stand in highlighting the points where local culture was incompatible with the will of God. While stressing the high moral tone which is one of the virtues of most African cultures at their best, he was at pains to specify those aspects of local culture which were unchristian and even evil. In this way he was not only concerned with some kind of personal holiness, but also genuinely seeking the wholeness and harmony of the community at large, where truth, honesty, and justice should be the predominant characteristics. A Man With a Great Heart For God! He is not tall, and does not have a larger-than-life character. He does not dominate, nor has he accrued power to himself. He walks slowly, is relaxed, and has a gentle sense of humour with a warm smile and a twinkle in his eyes. He dresses simply, eats simply… and… could have assumed titles to himself. As the Deeper Christian Life Ministry developed – most people enjoy the trappings and regalia of status which followers gladly give. But he calls his followers brothers and sisters, and treats them as colleagues. W.F. Kumuyi was born in 1941 into an Anglican home. It was a very strict Christian home, he told Isaacson, “We would get up in the morning, read the Bible, sing hymns, and go to church regularly. When I went to secondary school I lost interest in the church because our principal taught us atheism. But after a while I thought again and started going to various churches in town. Eventually, in 1963, a group of singers and preachers from a Gospel church got permission to come to the school. I understood the Gospel message, and was born again on April 5th, 1964. I read John Wesley, Charles Finney, Spurgeon, and lots of other books. I got involved with the Scripture Union, and I grew.” From Professor to Preacher! He gained a first-class degree in Mathematics at the University of Ibadan; then went back to Mayflower School to teach. After five years he went to the University of Lagos to do a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and became a lecturer there in 1973; and that was when he started a small Deeper Life Bible Study group. In speaking to a group of Pastors under his leadership as General Superintendent, W. F. Kumuyi said: “Our emphasis should be on the practical side of going out. If the Lord comes, let him meet us working for him. Now every time I preach I try to mention evangelism. I have told all the Lagos District Coordinators and Zonal Leaders to spend half their time on evangelism and only half their time on their members. There will always be problems in the church: don’t let them take up all your time”. Concluding his book, Isaacson writes, “And, of course, Deeper Life are self-governing. Kumuyi is the founder & General Superintendent, and he carries a tremendous weight in pastoring the Gbagada (Lagos) church alone, quite apart from the (now thousands) of other congregations across Nigeria and the rest of the world. He is a remarkable leader, one of God’s people for this generation. Kumuyi has received a great deal from God, but he is adept at passing along what he receives. My feeling is that what God has given his people through Kumuyi will be kept and developed long after Kumuyi is gone. This has been God’s work, and to Him be the glory.” The renown writer, preacher and televangelist is popularly known apart from his crusades with the Monday Bible Study where he teaches the Bible systematically and expository his global audience via the satellite and streamed live on his Facebook handle as well as the Church’s handle To God be the glory! |

Seun: It means “you shall not give false testimony against your neighbour”, according to NIV. In other words, don’t falsely accuse your neighbor of a crime s/he didn’t commit. The Ten Commandments only forbid this specific type of lie. You can tell all sorts of lies without breaking any of the Ten Commandments. Your statement is against the letter and spirit of the Scriptures. It is suggestive that God permits believers to lie other than bear false witness against neighbours. What then was the sin of Ananias snd Sapphira? Your statement is a clear fallacy and blasphemy. You can only preach that to your likes. |

Let me assume that some or all of these allegations against the late beloved Evangelist Billy Graham are true. If so, it just means that he made some mistakes or committed sins which he may have corrected or repented of. This is why the Bible urges us not to look up to the best of men as role models. Rather, as Christians we should be "looking up to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2). It does not also imply that none can be perfect as some are insinuating. God cannot tell us to aim at perfection if it is a mirage (Matthew 5:48). Perfection is possible through the grace of Christ, our Perfect Example. |

OLAADEGBU: The context of this is Joshua 2:1–16, when the Israelites were spying out the land that the Lord has promised them. Rahab gave refuge to the spies, hid them, and sent their pursuers off in another direction while directing the Israelites elsewhere. During her discourse with the pursuers, she lied about where the men were. The passage reads:
"Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." So they went, and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab, and lodged there. After she hid the spies, she sent them off" (Joshua 2:1).
"And she said to them, "Get to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you. Hide there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward you may go your way" (Joshua 2:16).
This was a different direction from where she sent the spies' pursuers. This is where the relevant passage in James 2 becomes important:
"Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?" (James 2:25).
Which leads to the question: Was Rahab praised for lying in James 2:25 when lying is forbidden in the Ten Commandments? No sir. It was her faith in the God of Israel that was praised. Rahab was a sinner who exhibited saving faith which her family benefited from. |

Seun: Is lying forbidden in the Ten Commandments? I don’t think so. Please provide the source. Thanks. "Thou shall not bear false witness" means thou shall not lie. Rahab was a sinner as at the time she saved the Isrseli spies. She was a harlot as at then. So a sinner just have to sin. The Bible did not praise Rahab for her sin of lying. Rather, the Scriptures only praised her faith in the God of Israel which made her to risk committing 'treason' in order to save God's ambassadors (although they were strangers) believing that she and her household would be rewarded and protected by the Israeli God. She had faith in God which she put into action. That is the point. There are things a believer can learn from unbelievers. |

Boomark: I decided to join winner chapel around June 2017 after staying away from church for so long. And in the month of july I resigned from work due to some issues I had there. There was a day I attended a crusade in my area, and a woman called me aside and asked me what I do for a living. I told her I don't have any job. She said ok, that she got a message that am to become an evangelist. One of the female ministers from the crusade also told me the same thing that night, that I have a call. I began to wonder why God have not reveal anything to me if it is true. Some years ago, someone from the catholic church told me that am to become a reverend father and I rejected that. I believe that all Christians are 'called' by God.
I went to winners chapel Osisioma, the Aba headquarter and met the then assistant resident pastor for him to guide me on what to do concerning the message I received during the crusade. I told him everything and some of my personal life experience. He encouraged to join WOFBI(word of faith bible institute), a 2 week bible study program and to also speak to the resident pastor. I met the resident pastor and told him my story. He urged me to join WOFBI first. I told him I have little money with me since am no longer working and that I will need welfare to support myself if I should join the program. He asked when I joined the church and I told him. So he said I should go on and join the program, and also meet my homecell leader concerning the welfare.
The heart attack At the end of the program, I went to the resident pastor and told him that I have not received any divine direction. He told me to continue praying and also meet the homecell leader again concerning the welfare. I met the cell leader and he assured he is working on it. Days amount to weeks and I became frustrated. He kept on telling me that he will do something about it. My neighbours were the ones helping me sometimes with food. I could not believe what happened to me. I sent message to the then resident pastor(he was transferred to another church at the end of the program in August 2017) whom I first met and narrated what am passing through and my poor health condition, he never replied me nor called me. A pastor told me later that I must be paying my tithe and have been a member for upto 6 months to benefit from the welfare program. If they had told me this in the beginning I wouldn't have joined the WOFBI program. I would have known how to manage myself with the little I had then. So while I was still wondering what happened to me I had a heart attack. I prayed that God should not let the heart problem to kill me. Since then till now I still feel pressure in my heart area and have not been able to go to hospital because I don't have the money.
I was hoping that one day I will get money to treat myself. I never wanted to bring this here but I notice some sharp pain in my heart that woke me up early this morning while lying on my stomach. Out of fear I had to write this here. My brothers and sisters please I need help to treat myself. First of all, God calls us to repentance leading to salvation. After we have answered that call, He calls us to discipleship. He then calls us into the ministry. It is not another person that will tell you that you are called. It is the Caller Himself. Have you answered the first call to escape from the wrath to come? |

Christianity Etc › Re: What Are The Steps To Salvation? by UnchangeableGod: 5:52pm On Feb 07, 2018 |
PstBiola: Many people are looking for 'steps to salvation.' People like the idea of an instruction manual with five steps that, if followed, will result in salvation. An example of this is Islam with its Five Pillars. According to Islam, if the Five Pillars are obeyed, salvation will be granted. Because the idea of a step-by-step process to salvation is appealing, many in the Christian community make the mistake of presenting salvation as a result of a step-by-step process. Roman Catholicism has seven sacraments. Various Christian denominations add baptism, public confession, turning from sin, speaking in tongues, etc., as steps to salvation. But the Bible only presents one step to salvation. When the Philippian jailer asked Paul, 'What must I do to be saved?' Paul responded, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved' (Acts 16:30-31).
Faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior is the only 'step' to salvation. The message of the Bible is abundantly clear. We have all sinned against God (Romans 3:23). Because of our sin, we deserve to be eternally separated from God (Romans 6:23). Because of His love for us (John 3:16), God took on human form and died in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21). God promises forgiveness of sins and eternal life in heaven to all who receive, by grace through faith, Jesus Christ as Savior (John 1:12; 3:16; 5:24; Acts 16:31).
Salvation is not about certain steps we must follow to earn salvation. Yes, Christians should be baptized. Yes, Christians should publicly confess Christ as Savior. Yes, Christians should turn from sin. Yes, Christians should commit their lives to obeying God. However, these are not steps to salvation. They are results of salvation. Because of our sin, we cannot in any sense earn salvation. We could follow 1000 steps, and it would not be enough. That is why Jesus had to die in our place. We are absolutely incapable of paying our sin debt to God or cleansing ourselves from sin. Only God could accomplish our salvation, and so He did. God Himself completed the 'steps' and thereby offers salvation to anyone who will receive it from Him.
Salvation and forgiveness of sins is not about following steps. It is about receiving Christ as Savior and recognizing that He has done all of the work for us. God requires one step of us'receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and fully trusting in Him alone as the way of salvation. That is what distinguishes the Christian faith from all other world religions, each of which has a list of steps that must be followed in order for salvation to be received. The Christian faith recognizes that God has already completed the steps and simply calls on us to receive Him in faith. The only step to salvation which I personally experienced was repentance from my sins. Of course, my prayer for salvation that early morning of Thursday, 18th of November, 1999 was in the name of Jesus, my Saviour. I heard the gospeI, believed, repented and got graciously saved! Alleluia!! Christ has done it all. Salvation is not by works. It is by grace. However, there must be repentance before salvation. Repentance from sin is an integral part of believing in Christ. In fact, the first gospel message preached by Christ after His baptism and temptations was "repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand" (Matthew 4:17). He repeatedly preached repentance as the only avenue to escape perishing and being damned for all eternity (Luke 13:3-5). Any so called salvation without a complete turning away from sins amounts to self deception. Thanks. |

OLAADEGBU: "Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1).
"Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me" (1 Corinthians 4:16).
"Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample" (Phillipians 3:17).
"And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost" (1 Thessalonians 1:6).
"For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you; Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you: Not because we have not the power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us" (2 Thessalonians 3:7, 9).
We can see here that Paul was neither arrogant nor conceited when he said the words quoted above but he had to say that since the church was being led astray by false teachers and apostles as we can see happening in our world today. The church could not actually see Jesus but they could see Paul and compare his life and ministry to those charlatans and false teachers. There's the need of mentors who can give good examples of the life and teachings of Christ. So I don't see anything wrong in pursuing after godly traits in godly ministers or following their examples. I quite agree with your above points. There are always two sides to a coin. |

lonikit: God bless Kumuyi. he is a man I love so much and I'm sure many pple are stil in dclm bcus of the love they hav for him. but there is an element of boastfulness in this writeup. he is a man of humility so dont bring him down with much praises. I'm sure if he sees this, he wil not like it. why wil u write that " you betray heaven if u betray Kumuyi". Kumuyi is not the standard but Christ. I quite agree with you on this. |

Mummyjoy: Let's be careful, Jesus is the Man to look unto. Men no matter how highly placed should not receive more than necessary accolade. We're still wearing flesh until we cross over to immortality. |

Kaziar: Bros if Nigerians did not groan under pdp there would have been no reason for buhari to be doing what he's doing in power now Not necessarily sir. The current president of Nigeria was voted in primarily because the North desperately wanted power to return to them with the support of the Southwest who were willing to play a second fiddle. Of course, things were somehow bad then and the then opposition took advantage of that. But I make bold to say that people voted for the current government not necessarily because they were groaning. Most of the people who complained while GEJ was in power and thus voted him out are still willing to vote for the current regime despite the worsening economic and security condition of things because of ethnicity and religion! |

plaetton: This is the problem with middle east shithole religions.
This is the problem why TODAY, we Africans have no endouring moral and ethical philosophies that guide us.
In true African culture, there is no forgiveness without punishment and restitution.
There must always always be punishment and restitution before forgiveness. You are right sir. Restitution is scriptural. Restitution is a real evidence of genuine repentance. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Can A Church Remain The Same After The Demise Of Its Founder? by UnchangeableGod(op): 4:55pm On Jan 06, 2018 |
JesusPeople: That's a big question..
The truth is, the church might not be the same, the things is, the founder can't share all that God has communicated to him to a successor, many times, people are not ready to submit to new authorities or relate with new authority like they did with the founder.
For instance, there might be some trait the founder has on its members that the new or in coming overseer might not have.
I think, eye service is killing the church, not only that, we are of Paul, therefore if Paul is no more, we look of any other at the level of Paul, that's just my opinion I think I love your submission sir. You made a lot of sense to me. Kudos. |
