Better stay separated and Sta alive.
Marriage is a test of character. It forces you to be sincere with yourself. Because one day, you must stand before
God, completely naked and answer to your life. If you are a truthful person, your marriage will work out. Even if you
are a bad person, but are struggling to be good, marriage is that opportunity for you to right your life. You will love your
marriage.
-
There is so much fakeness in people's characters. Pretenders everywhere. You may have money and go around splashing
and having lavish wedding, or even donating the highest amount in church and sitting on every high table. Nobody may question
you how you got it. But that your husband/wife WILL question you, day and night.

Marriage questions every item of your life.

You are still not getting me; I am not talking of the likes of your IT student, who is lazy and not ready to learn. I am talking of those who have it in them to make positive changes but not accorded any form of opportunity, yet being tagged unemployable.
You mentioned Bill Gates; go back and read his biography and see that he came from a privileged home, which most of us cannot boast of. His real breakthrough was the opportunity to intern at IBM from where he was able to practically execute his OS project which is now known as Microsoft but how many big firms are giving out internship opportunities to the so called average kids here in Nigeria; except for Andela, most multinationals internship is now based on who you know.
Now to the question of grades; it has been killing us from day one. We focus too much on grades and end up learning too much theory in order to graduate with first class and the likes while our foreign counterparts work on research and inventions.
This is not to downplay the essence of taking our studies seriously; for example, I graduated with a distinction and second class upper which I did concurrently because I focused so much on graduating that way but what is the essence of such grades when we can't convert it to practical innovation; partly due to our level of exposure; thanks to the so called employers who called us unemployable or why do you think government is pushing so much for local content and technology transfer.
The real essence of knowledge is in its ability to liberate; not just to have it. With the number of first class and distinction graduates we have in Nigeria, we should be able to better our lives and innovate, but like I and you know, the educational environment doesn't give much in terms of exposure and practical learning, yet the work environment too is now playing stereotype, so what is the future of the country with such a culture.
Truth is if not for the large number of graduates being churned out in Nigeria; with employers being able to pick as they like, nobody will call another person unemployable. They have too many choices for the few openings relative to the number of willing workers or can the employers do the job all by themselves; it is not about entitlement but a symbiotic relationship thing.
I really see where you are coming from but even though I am gainfully employed in a very good firm with over seven years experience, it is not just about me but every other person who desires such opportunity, so let us drop the unwholesome labeling of graduates as unemployable; let us all assist in working on their deficiencies while giving them opportunities to excel in what they know how to do best. Most celebrated inventors today are failures in other thing; Bill Gates just had a tennis match with Roger Federer to generate funds for a philanthropic venture but his inability to beat Federer doesn't make him a dunce; this is my exact argument. People should not be measured and called unemployable based on only our predefined metrics; tell me they have challenges and I will agree but to label them as unemployable is inadmissible.
I however like your pattern of thinking; it shows self reliance and hope you can give the Nigerian graduates more opportunities to showcase what they have in them and you will agree with me that nobody is unemployable.
--
Been some days. Didn't know this topic was still on.
Well, we must tell ourselves the truth. In this country called Nigeria, Employers do not need graduates. Simple.
-
I once worked in a firm that did some type of construction related things. I am adept at all things computer.
Guess what? They had no electricity. No light!! End of story.
Some junior technician blew up one of the Generators...
-
The man had no light... and with that, he had lost interest in computers. I was useless to him. There were other
competitors in the market now, a market that he once dominated. No number of graduates can revive that
company. Even Chinese had entered the market and were also constructing same thing the guy used to construct.
-
How many graduates do you need to solve that problem?
-
I work now in another firm. Number ONE: This firm has light and inverters. Therefore, computers work. So I'm useful once more.
-
But the firm needs contracts from clients to survive. No matter how inventive we are, if we cannot get clients in
a highly competitive market, there will be no money for anybody's salary.
-
What we need, is Nation Building.
Say no to importation. Tell ourselves, "We can do it".
This is what America, China, UK, Europe... This is what they do. They all know that if they import recklessly, they will lose jobs.
So they take pride in their home grown industries and DO NOT import. China = Zero!
This is what makes the local industries have jobs.
It is this jobs they can give to graduates. They give them brief training and the job is done.

I come from a family of academics, all through my life, i was practically raised in the university and i can tell you the problem with Nigeria is her educational system. Due to the massive attention given to degree holders over the years, a lot of person s who would have been better off going for vocational training in various forms of labour are forced to go get a degree. Now when these persons apply to these universities for the courses of their choice, its either they dont do well and are denied admission or they are given a totally different course that they have no interest in to study. Therefore you have someone who would have been a talented lawyer studying Fine Art, or a talented fashion designer studying Mass Communications, someone who would have been a talented Doctor studying History, and the list goes on and on. These persons come out and become misfits because the system choose to push them into a different area rather than horne those God given potentials in them. Also the issue of curriculum where u have computer science and engineering students learning fortran rather than current programming languages and trends, Students in 2017 are still being taught the same courses using the same processes used in 1987. Even the professors most of who are living in denial do not upgrade their books. More than 80% of Nigerian Professors do not know how to use a laptop at an intermediate level. Very few can comfortably type their full CVs without asking from assistance someone else. After watching Black Panther, i realised the power of education and its potentials which we tend to overlook and disregard in this country. Education goes beyond having a degree or certificate. Unfortunately that is the only aspect we see. Hence the rush for certificates and degrees and yet it is not being translated into factories and industries. The concept of being Unemployable only arises because people are coming out of our educational system and there is no place for them to fit in. Even if all the industries needed were built today, it will collapse because the persons we are churning out of our institutions are not competent enough to handle such infrastructure because the system did not prepare them for it.
I studied in UK. Post graduate. What I noticed about the the undergraduates, the industry comes to the university to tell the university what to teach the students.
Not all students go to university. People are so creative that they can get on with their lives without a university education. Employers are more concerned with what you can do for their company than how many degrees you have.

Their parents do not pay for their undergraduate studies. At age 18years, each person has his life to live and gets out of Daddy and mummy's house.
If you feel/think that University is meant for you, you take a student loan offered by the government. Pay your tuition and accommodation then do your degree. So their undergraduates are very focused on what they want to achieve and where they are going to work. They are mini-business men, investing in their future.
When they graduate and get that targeted job that they already had before entering the university, they pay back the student loan to the government. It is taken from their salaries.
---
If a person already has a job and does not feel that a university degree is worth his stress, he does not go to one. He can just buy books and read. Or go to a library and update himself.

Check the bold statement; this is why we are not getting anywhere in this country. Inasmuch as organizations expect you to add your quota, they have a role to play in your training and career development. It is so funny you said teach you and pay you; the teaching and training is to empower you to do your job with expertise and technicality. Why are we building a different culture here in Nigeria whereas when you travel overseas, tools, training kits, mentoring and career development are part of what employers make available to you; this was s however practised in some multinationals. Not aiding employee development is one of the reasons employee's loyalty in Nigeria is at the minimum as the employee has nothing to gain from his organization other than monetary compensation while he is being milked dry hence, immediately he sees a higher paying employer, he resigns and moves on without any feeling; such culture needs to be changed.
I've tried to convince you to see yourself as the employer. You still want freebies.
-
Do multinational companies take dull graduates with 3rd class and train them? Usually 1st class or 2.1. If somebody can gain 3rd class in same school that another is gaining 1st class, it means the 3rd class person is quite slow in understanding some concepts. Why should a business looking for profit waste its time and resources retraining you that did not pass your uni courses? The table has turned. This is when YOU must show that you have something to offer. No matter how small. Stop waiting to be trained in everything. Train yourself. Try to find out what the business does and ask questions. They will answer.

Who trained Bill Gates and the Facebook boy? How about the Amazon man Jeff Bezoz? Who trained them?

If you keep carrying entitlement attitude it will inhibit your from even yourself. That Innoson man, who trained him?

You won't believe how much training we are giving that IT guy in my office. He won't read any new books. Just to press WhatsApp and Facebook on his phone. My boss doesn't have his time again.

Read about Bill Gates life. This is picture of the Encyclopedia Brittanica, the 10volumea of Macropedia and the 20 volumes of Micropedia.
It contains all topics in this world from A - Z. Each one book is about 1000page. Bill gates parents had it in their house. He read EVERYTHING before even entering University.
Today, you have Wikipedia which is also A-Z of all topics but updated.

You made a very good point by requesting that we add value to organizations to earn our keep but I guess that is a digression from my grouse. My advocacy is a level playing ground for all applicants; giving the unemployed opportunities to learn and give their best to job opportunities than asking for 10 years experience from people you put age limit of 28 years on.
Now to the issue of value, the business environment is highly competitive and demands ingenuity; most Nigerian organizations maintain stereotype operations such that things are done the way it has been done in the past without support for innovation and flexibility. Staff members who may want to bring about change are scorched and castigated using the parlance of 'don't outshine your master' therefore limiting the input of creative workers, yet they blame all workers at the end of the day, when evidently, they were never given the required opportunity.
In conclusion, I am not talking of the lazy worker who just needs a job to get by and make salaries; I am talking of those who crave to make things happen yet not given the opportunity and unfortunately labelled as unemployable.
Level playing ground.
YOu want the industry to give you opportunities to learn. As per you want them to teach you and pay you salary. Free teaching?

Where I work, there's this IT student who is always pressing his phone, whatsapp and facebook infront of his PC.

My boss too has a phone. But he's always doing a lot of MSExcel calculations. He hardly looks at his phone when in the office. The IT and other gradutes have not taught him anything new. He is the one who is even teaching them how to perform one calculation or another.

How do you think he feels about the IT student and gradutes?
-
If you really believe that you can bring change to an industry, you should understand the full workings of that business and why they do things the way they do them. Your change may step on a lot of unpleasant toes that you are not seeing due to your inexperience.
-
You must see yourself as the boss himself and wear his shoes to know what he is feeling. Don't just criticize him. Only then can you pass accross your new idea with your own eyes clearly open.

Nigeria is not a native English speaking nation and will never be....
English will be still be taught as a subject right from primary school and everybody will still be able to communicate in english....
What I even notice is people who learn English as a second language actually speaks better english than those who picked it from the street....
The latter's accent and pronunciation have already been corrupted by the bad english on the street....
Besides this is about producing a productive workforce in this country .....
Are u happy with the certificate graduates we have on the streets....
If not, then u join the disruptive innovation movement....
I did an MSc overseas. The industry came to the univerity to tell the University what to teach the students.... Software textbook etc. Even how to go for interviews and write CVs.. They only need 3years for their Engineering because everything is on point. No wasting time.
-
This only happened because the Industry is viable. It has money.
It has money because it is producing things that people are buying.
People are buying things from their local industry because they DON'T want to buy imported from China. They love their local industries and want their local industries to survive. They are not jealous of other countries.
They love each other. They don't laugh at each other. They want to remain united to each other. They are not fighting each other. They all speak one language properly. They don't favour anybody according to tribe. It's only their one language they know.
-
Their government does not allow import from China to compete with their own local industry. They told their government that THEY, THE PEOPLE can manufacture EVERYTHING they need. They openly criticize their government if it is not performing.
-
Also They respect each other. If somebody does not have gold watch, nobody will look down at him.
-
This all happened after many years of the people always FIGHTING FOR THEIR RIGHT.They did not allow corruption to go unpunished.

I weep for this country; the majority of our educated youths are unemployed. Having gone through the hardship of academic stress in our tertiary institutions, we cannot but wait for that day when our hardwork would pay off. Unfortunately, we are now out of school and still awaiting that day when we would be gainfully employed. We are yet to stop depending on our parent's benevolence; not because we are not trying to get a job but because the employers wouldn't employ us. The painful part is sometimes, we are so sure we did wonderfully well during the interview yet we never get the offer. Sometimes, the employers promise to get back to us, but if we wait for eternity, we still wouldn't get called. Based on all these unwholesome events, we tend to begin to believe that we are actually unemployable as quoted by the op; whom I so much respect but disagree with on this assertions. I have only six things to tell you about the lies they tell us.
1. They say majority of us are unemployable just to cover up for the fact that they never wanted to employ us in the first place. It is just a case of calling the dog a bad name just to hang it or how do you explain going through five stages of an interview only to be dropped at the last stage due to no verifiable justification.
2. They demand from us what they themselves do not have or how can we explain employers asking for a number of professional affiliations and certifications which the employer apparently does not have. They joined a system that aided their career development through these trainings and certifications but they in turn expect you to have it before joining the organization.
3. They ask you to cheapen yourself by trying to underpay you or in the case of the ladies, make you go the long mile, only for you to reject such advances then they later come and say you are not qualified.
4. They use recruiting firms to employ you so as to contract you as a contract worker; these were same positions and job role for which they were gainfully employed as of their own time. In the recruitment process, they would set questions most of them cannot confidently answer well just for them to make majority of the applicants fail; this is easily observed in job test where applicants are asked questions not related to either the job being applied for now the experience expected to carry out such roles; why measure a fish capabilities based on its inability to climb a tree.
5. They make us apply for job openings that they have either filled up or have already handpicked people they wish to give the slots to; Nepotism is the order of the day.
6. More than 85% of applicants for any job opening would end up not getting the job because there are limited openings. However, it is in less than 10% of Nigeria job openings that applicants are selected on merit.
In conclusion, do not be deceived, you are not the problem, work harder on becoming better, gain new skills and don't ever give up; you will get your own job.
As much as I understand your pain, you have to realise that this country's over dependence on imported products has done so much damage to our local industries (we all drive cars and yet none of us can make a tire. Dunlop is gone).

If there are no local industries, where is the money coming from?. You the graduate, can you help the company earn this money? The little money they still have is what they use to pay salaries. Each time Chinese products flood our market, another person's job is NO LONGER required. The company quietly releaves him of his duty. If you cannot help the company earn more money or gain stronger ground in Nigerian market or stop the Chinese imports that are running our industries out of business, why should they employ you at all?
Do you just want to collect salary, watch the company fold up say "E kpele O" and waka comot?

Thus it will be difficult to use it to teach complex science topics....
Thus medium of instruction in our higher institutions can remain english especially abstract and pure science courses.....
However our local languages can easily be developed to teach basic sciences and maths in primary schools and junior secondary school...
Theb when will the children learn English? If their early education is in each of their local dialects, what language should COMMON ENTRANCE be written in? SSCE? NECO, JAMB?
-
We know that children learn languages faster than adults.
Teach them the English when they are still Children. Otherwise they will never learn it as adults. They won't even be ablebto understand JAMB in English. And no hope for University with all the textbooks in English.

What u wrote up there validate the reason why people should be trained in the language they are familiar and comfortable with....
Very few Nigerians can fully articulate and express their thoughts in english without interjection of local language....
And that's because they don't fully think in english....
A child is best trained in a language he/she thinks....
A child's thought process cannot be in one language and yet u are teaching the child in another language....
It makes understanding and assimilation difficult....
And this is the main reason Nigerians find it difficult to connect with their environment and exploit its potential....
I just don't understand the ignorance being displayed on this thread....
My father didn't learn mathematics in school but ISIRO...
yes, he was taught maths in Yoruba in primary school....
Yet he came out with 2.1 in maths and chemistry from U.I.....
His basic understanding of maths is exemplary....
And he's among few who can fully express himself in both Yoruba and english independent of each other....
Forget all the science terminologies....
Teach maths and basic science in local language and watch how the knowledge base among students expand and students becomes more innovative, creative and curious by default.....
Every year WAEC/NECO result has been woeful despite teaching in english language....
So what's the big deal about the language......
I'll come back to advocate why MATHS MOST ESPECIALLY should be taught in LOCAL LANGUAGE....
If you are in a kingdom, learn and speak the language of the kingdom.
-
No matter what tribe you claim, or mother tongue you speak, you are in the Kingdom called Nigeria. You need to learn English because this is the language of this encompassing kingdom. If you refuse to learn or speak English, you create problems for everybody else in this kingdom. Because everybody cannot learn your village language because they want to talk to only you. They will speak as I am doing now, in English.
-
If you continue refusing English then you are cutting yourself off from the kingdom called Nigeria. You are destroying it. The politicians will attain power, and mess up and dupe up of our national wealth because we are all TOO BUSY FIGHTING over our differences instead of jointly understanding and speaking English, working as a unified BODY and holding each of them accountable.
-
When YOU become our president, what language will you use? Will you also become nepotistic like Buhari, address only your people and appoint only them?

The government will set itself up with having to justify 700 + plus local dialects to justify everybody. It cannot do that.

Learn English and make progress. During Easter and Christmas, go to your village and educate your parents, grand parents, chiefs and elders in your own local language all that you learnt in English. Leave the children to continue learning English.

So, we continue in darkness.

The sad thing is that religion is co-opted into this mess.
You know those great world leaders that lead by example and have a simple life style. They wear one cloth. Such leaders were able to convince the masses to work together so that the entire nation will benefit. In such counties, the system works.

People refuse to pay bills because they do not like the system that rewards our rulers with lavish life styles and no accountability.

Our rulers owe us accountability and we owe each other the Truth to bring them to justice instead of currying favour from them to gain one contract or the other.

Questions to be asked:
1. Was there a pedestrian bridge nearby?

2. Was there any speed limit on boldly written on the said road?

3. Was the person knocked down on a zebra crossing?

4. Is the road an expressway?

Get well soon
-
I re-learnt how to drive in the UK. I took driving lessons for 1year so I could delete my Nigerian style of driving from my head. However there are great differences in the types of road. The place they call expressway is always outside of town. No houses in that area. So no pedestrians can even get there. No foot bridge or zebra crossing there.
-
The one they call town road is the single lane road with zebra crossing. They hardly ever build foot bridge because it is hard for anybody to be climbing steps up and down. Even if you don't want to read speed limit there are so many traffic lights that you can't even speed.
-
Pedestrian kerb is clearly cut from road. And of course no sand or potholes anywhere.
-
My instructor told me DO NOT drive
1. If you are tired
2. If you are hungry
3. If you are angry/quarrelling
4. If you took medicines
5. Stop driving and rest every 2 hrs.
(And these guys don't even have hot sun in their country.)
-
Since I came back to Nigeria I have continued practicing all these. Our roads are designed differently. To be frank badly. Having expressways in built up areas, people are tempted to run across it to get something from the other side quite frequently.

As a pedestrian, I find it quite difficult climbing footbridge that is nearly 3 stories high because I want to cross express way that is built right in residential area.
-
I only advice motorist to obey the rules. Do not drive continuously for long hours everyday. One day drive another day use public transport. The pedestrian is at your mercy. Driving is a great responsibility.

There is a man called Innoson. He is producing... But others are still importing. You are placing a very
unfair competitive advantage against him. A car is made up of thousands of pieces and sub components. Many industries come together to produce each of these. Paints, Seats, Glass, Body, Welding, Chassis, Rubber tires, Ceramic brake pads... Mr Innoson cannot produce everything today-today. Rather than patronize him, you are purchasing 2018 Range Rover. You are not even investing in his company. You are not even producing leather for him to use to make different type of car seats.

Engineers are treated this way because this particular country can always import what ever products it needs from outside.
Here are a series of images to show what I mean.
The Iphone you use is designed in by american Engineers and fabricated in China. Nigeria just imports finished Iphone to use.
This renders all Nigerian Engineers useless in this process, design or manufacture.

The washing machine and home appliances that you use are designed and manufactured in western world. Nigeria just imports
the finished equipment to Alaba, Game/Shoprite, MegaPlaza..
This renders all Nigerian Engineers useless in this process, design or manufacture.

All the Cars we're all bragging with up and down, are designed and manufactured in western and eastern countries. NIgeria just imports
the finished cars. Cos Charis, Globe motors, Germain motors..
This renders all Nigerian Engineers useless in this process, design or manufacture.
-
If Nigerian Engineers are useless to all these processes, how can you expect to get paid more during your NYSC?
-
This is a sad reality you have to accept unless you can do something about our excessive importation.
...
I typed all these terminology into Google images. The result never brings up black people industry. Only white people industry.
-
The 1st and 2nd image is a Chinese company making one of either Android phones or Iphones.

Those who have earned money by facebook, whatsapp and instagram, please let us hear your stories.
A lot of us waste so much money buying data to run these social media services but in reality no money comes in from the other end.
We just continue living up to the hype of "having" social media. Swipping and swipping day and night.

If that is how it is for you better not to give birth.
Do not abort
So not use contraception either.

Leave other people's children alone. Just face your work.

It is those who buy the table spots for N1,000,000 and above who are stupid.

He offered a price that is BS. But Nigerians hate each other so much that they want to show that they can afford it. So they pay. This same Nigerians will be looking for N10 to give beggers in traffic jam if they even agree to wind down their car window

Questions asked?
No matter the country, they will always ask
"Why do you want to come to xyz country?".
"Where will you stay in xyz country?"
"What will do when your visa expires?"
-
I believe these are the most important. There are many other questions which just add on to these ones.
-
These 3 questions alone can determine your character. An insincere person, or a truthful person.
-
A friend of mine back in 2004, used to play golf in his father's club. A small boy like me. His father was opportuned to be in that golf club. My guy, did not even have kobo. He was just doing Daddy's good boy.

He went to apply for US visa. They called him for interview and asked him why he wanted to go to USA. He told them he wanted to be playing golf.
-
Shikena.
They gave him.
-
Guy went there, joined one golf school. Nack ball small before beginning the main koko.He married a Naija girl with USA greencard.

Juat say what you want to do. You yourself, make sure you are telling the truth. And don't sound like a begger. Oyibos hate beggers.

But what we have is people defending these guys and asking them to continue even when they have clearly failed the nation.

If you accept a position where you are SO high above all other people, you will create panic a chaos among the lower ranks. And you have to start watching out for your own security. This will later progress to you killing the poor people who disagree or oppose your views.

You will make yourself into a monster.
CultureRe: Why Do We Pay Bride Price In Nigeria? by uuzba(m): 4:05pm On Mar 06, 2018
MDsambo:
In Islam, women are not owned by their families and should not be traded with. If bride price is paid to the bride's family, then I think that makes her no difference with a goat being sold in the market.
If one pays bride price according to Islam, do they pay according to tradition?
-
As per, are you saying that Islam (religion) is the standard and overrules village tradition?
-
For Nigerian Christians we have 2 masters to answer. According to Christianity, you don't have to pay any bride price. (That's what Oyibos do).
But we all have villages and cultures. So before you even start speaking about Christian (not paying bride price) , you will have to answer bride price by tradition.

seguno2:
Is that a sensible question?
Why can’t blacks get the cure for HIV/AIDShuh
Are we intellectually inferior to whites? Have we accepted that fate?
Are we discounting the blacks who have performed excellently in schools against whiteshuh
Why are we so cursed?
Nothing physically wrong with us. It is that backwards chief in our villages that is the cause.
We have cultures that we honour. Everybody here is doing one-leg Education, one-leg village.
As long as we still have village chiefs who do not request any intellectual prowess from his people, all we do is go to school, read books, score high ranks. Then go visit our villages and continue assbackwards traditional practices...
Tradition is a way of life... But there's now internet and massive education. Tradition can be changed now.

Tear away these same black africans, nigerians, from their villages and put overseas, where they don't have to go to their villages every Christmas anymore or are unbound from these village chiefs and you will see wonders. We same blacks start getting first Class in foreign universites,, breaking world record, building fastest computer and electric car.

It is the archaic village chiefs that is the problem not us.
