Now that's INTEGRITY. Besides USs' major fear is that if he doesn't resign, his extra-marital affair can be used as a blackmail against him into compromising his position and rubbishing the CIA. The govt just doesnt get its priority straight. These kind of decisions are responsible for keeping a large percentage of nigerians in perpetual poverty. GARRI (x7): PDP vs FASHOLA:Gov is rude to non-Lagosians – PDP
On November 9, 2012 · In News
4:04 am ..
BY DAPO AKINREFON THE Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has asked the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Raji Fashola to adopt a more diplomatic, civil and honourable manner of addressing residents of the state. In a statement by its state chairman, Mr. Tunji Shelle, the party berated the governor for threatening non-Lagosians to leave the state or be ready to face his manner of governance. The party stated that “it is very unbecoming of the state Governor to be quick in asking non- Lagosians to leave Lagos State whenever such persons seek redress or demand their rights as Nigerians.” It will be recalled that Mr. Fashola had warned that Lagos State traffic law and other laws must be obeyed and that those who are not ready to obey should leave the state. While faulting the remarks, the party said “we are taken aback to hear a governor, lawyer and indeed Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, threaten or make statements suggestive of ignorance to Nigerians.”
Gov. Fashola It added that “under no circumstance can anybody, not even the president, deport any Nigerian from any state in the country. The right of a Nigerian to live and not be discriminated against is guaranteed under the constitution of our great country. No law can thus be made to frustrate or erode such guarantee. The Governor ought to know this and remain civil.” The party, however, called on The Presidency and the National Assembly to call the Lagos State governor to order to respect the “sacrosanct right of every Nigerian to live in any part of the country,” adding the he should be advised against taking steps that can expose Lagosians outside the state to hatred.” …They are playing ethnic politics – ACN IN A swift reaction, the state Publicity Secretary of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, said “PDP is playing cheap ethnic politics with the hope that it will wake their dead party from the grave. “There is no truth whatsoever in the allegation and it is typical of PDP to relish in manuf- acturing and spreading gossips and falsehood about Lagos, hoping they would hoodwink Lagosians with these.” In addition, he said “For the avoidance of doubts, Governor Fashola is accommodative of non-Lagosians in Lagos and has many of them in his government in high positions. He therefore cannot be threatening non-Lagosians. “He meets regularly with non Lagosians to interact and rub minds on how to enhance peaceful co existence because he realizes that Lagos is a melting port for every Nigerian and he works to uphold this tenet. “If Governor Fashola ever warns Lagosians who constitute menace to others, such warnings are within his constitutional powers as the Number One citizen of Lagos State. Such warnings are to all Lagosians and never restricted to non- Lagosians. Igbokwe continued: “But Lagos PDP, desperate for straws to anchor their miserable political hopes, will go viral and twist these facts with the hope they will con unsuspecting non- Lagosians. “It is a tragedy that a party that should be advertising its strong performance with power in the centre and majority of Nigerian states is not doing that because PDP has wrecked Nigeria…” …Pleads with lawyers LAGOS — Meantime the governor has also emphasised how important it is for lawyers to collaborate with government to provide free legal services for indigent persons living in the state. Fashola, who was a guest of honour at the Lagos Public Interest Law Partnership Stakeholders’ Meeting in Lagos, noted that without the support of private legal practitioners, the dream of ensuring adequate access to justice by the state government may be unrealistic. This was coming as the state Attorney General, Mr. Ade Ipaye disclosed that the Lagos Public Interest Law Partnership Stakeholders’ Meeting was aimed at improving access to justice and promoting law and order through the collaborative effort of the ministry of justice and private lawyers practicing in the state.

Obi said government was not happy with the way the last intervention fund was used, and wanted to ensure more prudence this time, and involve the manufacturers directly. “The ministry is not happy with the way the first intervention fund was disbursed and used. This time, the intervention fund which we have proposed, and are now waiting for approval from the Presidency for, is to the effect that when approved, the money will not be given to the airlines directly. They will not have access to it. Rather, the money will be given to aircraft manufacturers who will then deliver the brand new aircraft to Nigeria, where Nigerian airlines will have access to them. “They will be given some criteria before they can access them, and we are working on those criteria. You know there has been a dearth of aircraft in the sector. This is the way we want to assist them this time around”, Obi said. FG is so unserious, they are not happy with how the last intervention fund was disbursed, yet no one was put in jail for that. From thirty aircrafts, they'll buy and disburse one to each airline, making ten, and as usual the remaining cash will end up in peoples pockets. This is another "WHITE ELEPHANT PROJECT" i tell ya. lollydyss: Nigerian Girls Invent Urine-Powered Generator Possibly one of the more unexpected products at Maker Faire Africa this year in Lagos is a urine powered generator, created by four girls. The girls are Duro-Aina Adebola (14), Akindele Abiola (14), Faleke Oluwatoyin (14) and Bello Eniola (15).
The generator is on display at an exhibition in Lagos Nigeria where people from the tiniest villages to those from big cities are talking about making stuff. This is part of an initiative by ‘Maker Faire Movement’ which seeks to showcase how traditional handicrafts can be a solution in the wake of expensive robot.
Their invention ensures that 1 Liter of urine gives you 6 hours of electricity.
The system works like this:
1. Urine is put into an electrolytic cell, which separates out the hydrogen.
2. The hydrogen goes into a water filter for purification, which then gets pushed into the gas cylinder.
3. The gas cylinder pushes hydrogen into a cylinder of liquid borax, which is used to remove the moisture from the hydrogen gas.
4. This purified hydrogen gas is pushed into the generator.
via BBChttp://www.naijapicks.com/2012/11/nigerian-girls-invent-Generator.html?m=1 ON SECOND THOUGHT, ME THINKS THE GENERATOR RUNS ON URINE (THEY'VE FOUND A WAY OF HARNESSING URINE TO PRODUCE ELECTRICITY)INSTEAD OF WHAT THE TOPIC IS INSINUATING. BUT ALL THE SAME, THESE GIRLS HAVE DONE WELL UTILIZING THEIR INGENUITY WHICH AFRICANS HARDLY DO EXCEPT IN THE CASE OF CORRUPTION. AM I WRONG? |

Okija_juju: I died..
Students with their Urine powered generator at Maker Faire Africa in Lagos
Now on the face of it it ticks a lot of boxes – developing nation ingenuity, young kids sticking it to the energy companies and the green credentials (hey – urine’s a renewable resource right?).
But I’m not so convinced.
The claims
The claims is that “1 Liter of urine gives you 6 hours of electricity.”
Wow, 1 Litre of urine and 6 hours of electricity.
The following is on the site explaining it.
The system works like this:
Urine is put into an electrolytic cell, which separates out the hydrogen. The hydrogen goes into a water filter for purification, which then gets pushed into the gas cylinder. The gas cylinder pushes hydrogen into a cylinder of liquid borax, which is used to remove the moisture from the hydrogen gas. This purified hydrogen gas is pushed into the generator. Along the whole way there are one-way valves for security, but let’s be honest that this is something of an explosive device…
What is in Urine?
Going to that bastion of semi-reliable information (wikipedia) – I find that:
Urine is an aqueous solution of greater than 95% water, with the remaining constituents, in order of decreasing concentration urea 9.3 g/L, chloride 1.87 g/L, sodium 1.17 g/L, potassium 0.750 g/L, creatinine 0.670 g/L and other dissolved ions, inorganic and organic compounds.
Ok, so nearly all water – and 9.3 g/L of urea. Hrmm.. On the face of it and with limited research into the chemical energy in urea – that’s not sounding like something that is likely to power a generator with a 10-40% efficiency (and that’s being very generous with the range).
The apparatus
Let’s take a look at the picture from here.
https://nathan-lee.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/IMG_4498_resized.jpg
The setup
Now it looks to me like a very daggy looking battery (the “electrolytic cell”), several water filter holders, a modified gas cylinder, some tubing, clamps and a generator. The bit from the generator to the electrics is pretty non-contentious – have seen similar things – a light to provide some load/indicator that energy is getting through and some powerpoints to plug the stuff in you want power to.
The “electrolytic cell”
Can’t really see what’s inside that or how it is filled up with urine etc – but keep in mind it’s got to be well sealed enough to pressurise the gas cylinder via the water filter thing in between. Also curious about the wires leading from it to the generator. What’s up with that?
Close-up of the battery and generator
https://nathan-lee.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/batteryAndGeneratorCloseup.jpg
Have they just hooked up the battery to an inverter perhaps? Surely people will expect the generator to be running while it is powering the lights. Or is it supposed to close the loop on supplying power back to produce hydrogen?
Water purifiers
https://nathan-lee.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Water-Filter.jpg
Next in the chain is the first of the water filters. What’s it for? “The hydrogen goes into a water filter for purification, which then gets pushed into the gas cylinder.” Ok, let’s go with that. First up it has no filter in it. Next up: it’s not pushing liquid through and a “water filter” only makes sense if you’re pushing water through it – I’m not sure what the point of it is – surely the gas would just bubble straight through to the exit? e.g. the liquid in it is irrelevant like blowing into a glass with a straw not in the water – the air doesn’t magically go down into the water – it just stays at the top. If you filled it to the top you might get a bit of water blown out initially but then it would have cleared a path. If it had a hose down it you’d get a sheeha/bong type result – but how it is currently I don’t see how it does anything. It’s ok, these kids don’t hang out with the drop-out pot-heads enough to know how to fashion a bong out of an Orchy bottle. Even if you tipped it upside down during operation it would proceed to blow out all the water until it was clear and then the gas would flow straight through.
Here’s how they are usually set up to filter water:
Water filter.
So water comes in – is pushed or pulled through the filter – and then flows out. If you don’t have the filter there – the water just flows straight out.. If you tried blowing air through – it’d just flow straight to the exit.
So you could take that out of the system – a sign of many “perpetual motion” and “free energy” machines where they stick a big coil, magnet or a mystery big resistor or something in there.
The gas bottle There’s some things wrong with the gas bottle too.
https://nathan-lee.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/bottleCloseup.jpg
Some suspect bits on here too
No clamp on the “input” – which I’m not sure what that is and how it works. Looks like a repair job, but not sure what that other bit is – looks like a plug or something on the side of it. The corrosion might be because they welded the wrong metal on there? But generally you don’t want too many valves/openings in your tank as it is a point of failure – certainly not a big drain sized opening or whatever that is.
Another water filter
https://nathan-lee.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/filterWithCrapOnEnd.jpg
Then there’s the next bit – don’t have any idea why you would have filters on the stuff going out to the atmosphere (I presume that’s what that is).
What is all this on the end?
Huh? Why would you care about filtering whatever comes out that bit – either they’ve hooked up their sham rig incorrectly (e.g. this stuff with the filters should be hooked to the electrolyte cell or to the gas tank or somewhere that makes sense. Double filtering something that is going nowhere – why? Again, those could be removed for the same impact.
And finally – 6 hours of running a generator on a litre of petrol is probably pushing the friendship a bit – 6 hours of running a generator on 95% water content – unless it’s uranium or fairy dust disolved in it is probably a stretch.
Conclusion
While I’d love to believe the story – I just don’t buy it. There’s either something very wrong with their setup or it’s just pointlessly complex for no apparent reason.
I’m labelling this a quack gadget – in line with the perpetual energy machines, magnet only motors.. Urine powered generators are in good company.
But happy to be proved wrong and we can finally harness the grubs who piss in the street and the urinal at the pub could run the lights.
Anyone else got any thoughts?

RKVINTLTD: Hello Nairalanders !
I salute your ideas to the contribution because every one idea is important consideration on this matter.
May I tell you that A child is owned by persons (Father & Mother), without the 2 one can not hold. Once a Child is born, the responsibility and upkeep becomes the liability of both parents.
Considering the issue on ground;
It is only the man that is working, the woman is not working, the woman is always at home She knows the behaviour of the children more than the father. She surppose to have been informing the Father about the behaviour of the children right from their early age as they grow for the father to intervene.
No matter how, The father also hold it a point of duty on at least once a week to monitor and examine the attitude of the children. The children would have been caught unaware by their father if he actually monitors the children under his care. After all Father is the head of the home.
Many spoilt children today are as a result from break in marriage, Father's negligence, improper monitoring of children, idleness of the children, mix with pears and social interractions which depends in where the child lives.
The environment a Child lives have a great influence on his behaviour since behaviour is a learned attitude from the society. Exposition to bad attitude is a common thing in our society today, take for instance; children living their both parents' home to watch Football Championship leage outside their home, the children mixed up with bad boys smoking indian hemp and Gambling.
Finally, I will say both the Man and Woman are responsible for the misfortune of their wards or children. Shifting blame now is not the issue. 'Whose parents are these children ?' or 'From which Family are children from ?'
We parents need to take proper care of our children jointly and monitor / control their behaviour. This is our duty as Parents, nobody is going to do it for us. Any problem created by one family becomes a cluster of societal problem which we are facing in Nigeria today.
Everybody want to be rich at all cost without even working hard. No one is ready to go back to Farm, No one is ready to go through the pains of getting the knowledge required to become a professional or an inventor.
How to get rich quick is the attitude of youth of today. Few youth can only be found reading at home today or going to the Library, except those preparing for exams, which surpose not to be so. Children should be able to read through their notes about what they were tought in school on daily basis.
Our Government as well need a lot to do, to provide Library facilities in all schools and make is compulsory for students to read after school hours before they go home.
Probably Student could the grouped to study on schedule in the Library and closely monitored by Chief Librarian who schedule time since the Library may not contain them at a time.
Public Library need to be sponsored by Fedral Government well enough if they want a children of High value in life and to the society.
Both parents are responsible for the falt or misconduct of their children. The chidren that committed an offence before the age of 18yrs are taken to Infantory court or Infantory Tribunal because they are still not ripe enough to be judged by the Law of the land, therefore their parents are to be blamed for their misconducts.
Thanks. TOO LONG AN EPISTLE! |
