Very important! When it comes to medical radiation, the word SAFE does not exist. It is risk versus benefit. The practitioner can only deliver dose that are as low as reasonably achievable.

I speak from the position of authority and not personal opinion. As one of those whom the society has entrusted among other things with the responsibility of educating the people on medical radiation, I just had to clarify some concerns in your earlier post. This is not personal but a mandate. It is the moral thing to do.

Just like the former post, this response also needs to be corrected. First, regarding the analogy with Sun, need I remind you that there is distinction between non ionizing and ionizing radiation. For most part, the visible light from sun that reaches us is the first, while xray is the later. Even the lower UV spectrum energy is nothing like high energy waves. Comparing the sun we receive to xray in this instance is irrelevant.

Secondly, current standard of care regarding mammogram does not encourage yearly exams for women who are not predisposed. The reason is based on evidence centered on RISK VS BENEFIT principle.

Again, don't take this personal as I am obligated to respond
You are not obligated to respond to me. You are obligated if you so wish to respond to the original poster who has genuine concerns about what decision she should make and asked for advice.

Every woman with a breast is at risk of breast cancer. So annual mammograms after 40 is the current recommendation. No studies have shown that annual mammograms have led to any harm. Any form of radiation is always "not advised" However, if a pregnant woman was involved in a road traffic accident, she would have radiological imaging done on her with a lead apron. If she suffered a stroke, she would get a CT done on her with a lead apron. At that point, treatment supersedes a safe vs harmful debate.

In this case, the pregnant woman is not in need of treatment so her decision is entirely based on her and her alone after she has studied and come to a conclusion that is comfortable for her.

I don't need a lecture on the effects of radiation from you. If my theoretical and practical knowledge is insufficient, I simply ask google and read some more. This is the same advise I gave to the original poster before giving my personal and not my professional opinion.
You are entitled to yours and I am entitled to mine.

If this were an intellectual discuss I would understand your point but at the moment you're just throwing stones where there are glass houses. Pointless.

Give your recommendation to the original poster in terms that she would understand and then you would be making a purposeful comment. If not, this back and forth is entirely of no use to either you or myself.

sonnie10:
There is no amount of radiation that is without risk. In medical xray, one must choose between risk and benefits. In fact in more technical terms, it is said that under stochastic risk, no threshold is required for damage to occur. Radiation safety in pregnancy is not certain, sometimes even with the lead apron, as they could be scatter beams which could come from secondary sources like the imaging plates and the patient.

For developing foetus, the effective biological efficiency is high and posses higher risk of DNA damage. The standard practice for imaging women of child bearing is to let them make informed decisions about the procedure.
Kindly read my post again and note in paragraph one the phrase "informed decision"

On a normal day I would ignore your post but alas today is not a normal day. It is of no use to refrain from responding to someone who asks a question and yet swiftly jump to quote a post by another person who bothered to respond.

Safe is a relative term. Humans are exposed to radiation daily eg from the sun. Is it considered hArmful every single day? No. Is it a possibility however remote that it could be harmful? Yes. Does this mean humans should no longer be exposed to the sun? No.

Every womAn over 40 is recommended to have a mammogram done annually for breast cancer screening. Is that frequency considered not harmful? Yes.

This is my personal opinion as I stated earlier and not the holy grail.

Congrats to all who have received ITA. You would be helping others yet to receive theirs and prospective "swimming pool" entrants by sharing your timeline in detail. It is imperative that we keep the thread informative.
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by vcole: 9:11am On Jan 25, 2017
i would advise you get your medicals done here. cheaper and faster. its valid for one year.
esosa4real:
My dear..... If you know the brainstorming i have been doing ehn....hmm.....I am scared of getting things done fast and properly in Saudi. VERY DIFFICULT place....To get PCC self na war, Medicals is done in a very far place, will have to travel two days to the hospital, My POF will be complete in March....so I will likely submit latest March 30th!!

Honestly, I am considering not to go back self and just sort every here in Naija but then again I would then become jobless.....lol
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by vcole: 9:08am On Jan 25, 2017
Hi. Well, i'm sure you've already done a bit of reading about xrays in pregnancy, if you haven't then you should so you are informed to make a decision you are comfortable with.

Generally, most diagnostic imaging tests are at a radiation dose that is deemed not harmful since the individual isn't exposed to it regularly. In pregnancy, it is advisable not to get an xray done because of the developing foetus.....

That being said, if the pregnant woman needs an xray done for diagnostic and treatment measures, she would be given a lead apron to wear during the procedure. This should further limit radiation exposure.

The choice for you to get an xray done is entirely yours in this situation....otherwise you have the option of doing everything else and then getting the xray done after you are delivered of your baby(ies). smiley

If you were to ask my personal opinion, if i were the one, i would most likely get the xray done with the apron and get the medicals outta the way.
cathymia:
Thanks @dupyshoo for the info...I saw you mentioned on someone else's post that medicals should be done as close to the eAPR submission as possible...so it's ok to submit 2-weeks to the 90 day deadline right?

Has anyone on here gotten a Police Certificate from Ghana? (as a Nigerian, non-resident of Ghana)?

@vcole can you please offer some advice on medicals/pregnancy/eAPR submission...

Sigh. Which of the tests were you more comfortable with? Maybe a lil bit more practise in writing would help....
Pinkygrace:
@vcole @dupsyshoo and everyone who replied me, I have already remarked my Celpip writing and the band did not change from 8, for Ilets it will cost me 165cad to remark, am thinking of just rewriting either of the exams which cost 300cad
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by vcole: 12:11pm On Jan 23, 2017
great!! remember i have always been pro remarking especially when it was a british council nigeria conducted ielts. i truly believe they need a quality control assessment done. My husband's scores also moved a band upward.
dupyshoo:
For those who are missing out due to low score in one section of IELTS (Specifically, writing or speaking), I will advise you go for the option of remarking.

My younger sis just got her writing score changed from 6.0 to 7.0 after about 10 weeks. Her revised score is now 8.0,7.5,7.5,7 in LRSW. She felt they will not increase her score by 1 whole band but I advised her to go for it. Thank God!! She got it changed to the score she needed.
I am so excited as I can now help my sis with the whole process.

esosa4real:
Thanks for all your kind suggestions/advices @00DE00 @vcole @dupsyshoo But this is what I have planned, is it doable?

5. Then by the time Iqas + ielts is done, Add all these details to my application and submit eAPR alongside POF for 2, our medicals and our Police certificates. (BTW how will I even add the details?) huh you would fill the eAPR with your marital status as married and with your details as well as those of your spouse and then write a loe stating that you got married after creating your EE profile and that you accepted the ITA because your recalculated crs with your spouse included in your app did not fall below the draw cut off.
Kindly calculate what your possible crs would be with your spouse included....estimate worst case scenario ielts scores pls.

So this in summary means I will be marrying her few weeks POST-ITA and adding her details with all required documents before submitting eAPR. Pls any REDFLAGS to this? I don't wanna be disqualified oh..lol
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by vcole: 10:26am On Jan 23, 2017
IQAS evaluation process. You fill the app form on their website for eca for immigration purposes, then you pay online (ensure you have a card that can pay up to $275. You can use a card that is not in the name of the applicant). After which, you get an email of your completed app form and payment confirmation and a check list. You print out the app form and payment confirmation and the check list, sign and fill as appropriate. Attach photocopy of passport biodata page and photocopy of the degree and send via courier to the mailing address on the form.
Then, you go to the iqas website and download a form called "request for academic records" You fill and sign the top part of the form and send to the school to fill and sign and endorse the bottom half and add to the transcript and then the school sends to iqas.
esosa4real:
Hey Iphie longtime, I guess your in Cana now...lol

I just wanted to know if your aware of the method, IQAS usually employs to contact the UNI as regards verification? courier or email?

Or do they just work with the documents sent by the uni from the go? yes they do
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by vcole:
Hello everyone.

@fusion23 gosh! congrats dude!! how did you transmit your passport to the vo? vfs or via dhl? If you sent via dhl with a prepaid return envelope then i think you won't get a pick up mail (i am not entirely sure about this). It's if you sent via vfs that you get a pum (i stand to be corrected).

@specialrq (i hope i didn't misspell this), you can't edit your EE profile anymore once you receive ITA cos it sorta stays locked unless you decline the ITA. what you should do is to fill the correct info in your eAPR and mention it in your loe that the EE profile had a mistake and you made the correction.

@bimpsy, yes you would need to upload your child's passport biodata page and any other page that has stamps and/or visas during the eAPR but you won't need that just for creation of your EE profile.

@esosa4real, congrats! I am not well versed in the change of status from single to married while in the PR process. However, I suggest that it may just be simpler if you do get married soon and then create your EE profile as married. This will drop your crs since she doesn;t have an eca or ielts yet. You can consider getting her eca done asap as well as registering for ielts (maximise all spousal points possible). Evaluating the equivalent of her degree is different from the requirements for licensing as a mls. So, iqas or wes should evaluate her degree as a bachelors equivalent. If her school is one that has issues with evaluation (as per long processing times, issues with the office in charge not "receiving" verification requests from wes, etc), you may consider iqas as the rate limiting process at the school is sending the transcript and attached signed form. If it will be easier and faster to get her transcript, then iqas is your best bet. Cheaper and shorter processing time.
Dupyshoo's suggestion is also quite apt. Get your ITA as single now, make sure your pof is enough for a family size of 2, let her get her eca done and ielts in d mean time and when you are submitting your eAPR, you add her details. Bear in mind that you'll have 90 days to submit your eAPR. As long as your crs does not fall below the draw score with the addition of your spouse, your application should be fine accompanied by a detailed loe.

@maternal, you are a Canadian citizen. Lots of people wanna migrate to Canada same as they wanna migrate to Australia and other countries with well structured migration programmes. Its nothing new and has always been that way. So, I wonder why you are expressing surprise. Were you born Canadian, are your parents Canadian or did you migrate to Canada?

Used the blue passport. Applied for Nigerian passport before ita came but immigration talk say them no get money buy paper to print so it wasn't ready as at submission. However, you indicate the nationality (ies) of the child while filling the form.

Hello guys. Great job being done here.

Sent my masters degree for evaluation by IQAS on 19th dec, got a receipt confirmation on 22nd dec and today 18th jan I was sent my evaluation report as 'a 1 year graduate degree program'
Is above evaluation good to go?

Secondly, can one evaluate statement of result,If certificate isn't ready yet?

Will appreciate your feedbacks. Thanks
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by vcole: 10:50am On Jan 19, 2017
No link for that. EE only requires one perosn as the PA. dupyshoo dropped a link a page or two back with info on the documentation needsed post ITA. Several applicants have used joint accounts for POF and have not had issues with it.
optionese:
@dupyshoo thank you for that confirmation, next question is about requirements joint account . please is there a link on financial requirements for married couple ?thank you
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by vcole: 10:58am On Jan 18, 2017
Yes. I didn't claim points for work experience for my husband but I filled his job details while creating my EE profile. Post ITA, i only filled his current occupation under work details and provided a reference for that as he is self employed and reference and biz documents were easy to come by.
I moved his previous work experience details to personal history.
Also, as long as you have indicated that you did not get an eca done for your educational qualification then you have nothing to worry about. Simple upload your qualification as well as your ielts certificate under the slot provided for education.
boldinc:
Hey guys... vcole, dupyshoo... Really wondering tho...

My wife is the principal applicant, yet they require details of my work history and then go ahead to ask for reference letter for each as well. I never thought I would be asked for such, been preparing for wifey's all this while. That's a really major task for me!

Why do they need it tho? It didn't add any score to my crs.

Also, I didn't evaluate my degrees, but they asking me to upload for Education... Do they mean just the IELTS result?
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by vcole: 12:06pm On Jan 16, 2017
If you have a first degree relative - father, mother, brother, sister, child.....then you should declare.
If while filling your EE profile you already indicated that you had a relative (does this question come up? i don't remember), then you should do same with your eAPR
boldinc:
I guess not declaring your relatives in Canada won't pose a threat then...

I got my documents notarized by a notary public. You can get your documents notarized by any of the persons/bodies listed by MCC as acceptable.
There are notary publics at the courts as well as in private practice. If you want to get yours done by a notary public at a court, just ask the court officials if there is a notary public and they would direct you to the right office.
debeams:
@vcole, thanks, I've actually read ur detailed explanation and ''twas helpful. I was only trying to double check on de transcript issue- forgive my being overtly careful.
But if you don't mind indulging me a little more- please was it @ de court you notarized your doc coz on the list Judges are asked to notarize and in Nigeria, it's commissioner for oath that notarize for people. Hence my asking who notarized/certified your duplicate copies of forms & Degree for you. Thanks once again.
TravelRe: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program Connect Here by vcole: 11:48am On Jan 16, 2017
Hola. Police certificate can cost anything between 5000-8500 or more depending on your bargaining power. The official price is probably a ridiculous amount but no one knows it. I paid 7500. Yes, you just go to the finger print section of Alagbon and speak to an officer. We waited in the office for maybe 30 mins after our finger prints were taken and the certificate was issued. Max. amount of time you would spend may be an hour or so.
Bro, police open on weekends for police report? hmmmm......I doubt that.
You only get a proof that you have completed the medicals and you upload this to your profile. Obviously the immigration gets the results directly. I think we got our medicals done on a wednesday and I submitted eAPR on a sunday and got medicals passed on monday.
Qlife is the cheapest. I got mine done at the children's and consultant's practice.
boldinc:
Hey vcole... How much did it cost to get your police certificate and could you get it same day? Wonder if they open on weekends. Also, when you did your medicals, was it the results you got and uploaded or just a proof of medicals taken? One the hospitals insists the only send results to embassy and give a proff of results taken to the applicant. The other gives a result to the applicant... the latter is cheaper tho. Qlife, the 3rd seems to be the cheapest and they also offer a generated form and not the results... So I guess Qlife it is then.

For those interested in the costs I can share if needed.

Anyone who got ITA recently and has gotten a police certificate and medicals?

Please click on my moniker and read my previous posts. i gave a detailed account of the eca process with mcc.
However, your question is confusing. There are different kinds of SVRs and if you read the MCC site clearly under instructions for eca, it tells you to initiate an svr for your medical degree/diploma and NOT for your medical transcript.
When you do initiate and pay for your degree svr, it generates a document list which a cover page each for each document that they require you to send to them.

She can fill the details of her bsc and tick that there is no eca for it. It won't generate a slot for that if she does. I think this is what i did for my husband's bsc if i'm not mistaken.
dupyshoo:
Yes, don't put BSc. under education if you did not evaluate your BSc. If you do, you will be asked to submit ECA number for it.

Hello everyone,

Big congrats to everyone who got their ITA yesterday! I finally got mine too! grin

Please I have a question, i don't know if anyone can help me shed a light on this situation.
My husband has a younger brother (8 yrs old) that he has been taking care of for about 5 years now, even though their father is still alive and mother is deceased, but he (the father) has signed a sworn affidavit (Consent of custody) with the High Court releasing all responsibilities of the brother (food, clothing, shelter, schooling, etc) to my husband. Can we claim his brother as a dependent child when filling the forms on PR? or can we only claim our birth children? There was a space where we were asked how many children we had, and we don't know if we can include him since we already see him as our child.

Kindly help to clarify please.
