Hello everyone. Good to see that the thread is progressing. @ehrnie, there is no need for you to commence the process for obtaining a Canadian drivers license since you are only going to do a short landing. Reason being that it's illegal to hold 2 operator licenses at the same time in most of not all the provinces. The UK license can be exchanged for a Canadian one when you eventually move as long a it's valid at the time. I do not know what province you intend to land in but I can speak for Alberta based on my personal experience. Your pr card app is done at the airport. It would help if you provide an address for it to be mailed to at that time. Your SIN can be obtained form the service canada office within a few minutes. Take your international passport and copr along. Your health card....you apply at the nearest license and registry to you and the card gets mailed to you within 7 days. A bank account can be opened in one day. I'll recommend Scotia bank. Call beforehand to schedule an appointment and take along your ID - international passport and copr. You'll need a proof of address. Easiest way to do that is to purchase a phone line and use the bill processed for that as proof of address. (Ensure you cancel your cell phone plan after the first month). 30 Likes 17 Shares |

@deeore, technically your application was not refused. I think they explain about what fees are refunded based on what happens. I think you fall into the incomplete application stage....during the preliminary checks where they check the documents to be sure everything was submitted. This usually means that you should get both your app fee and rprf refunded. Pls confirm this as well as timeline expected for refund. This has happened to quite a number of applicants in the past. Just as a bit of advice, during the eAPR process, its important to scan all documents, merge and convert to pdf and then save each file to be uploaded under the names for the place holders. Ensure your adobe acrobat reader is up to date. Then even after uploading, you can click on each one uploaded already, it sorta downloads again and you can view it again to be sure nothing was lost in transmission. I did this a lot during mine because I had read of glitches like this online. Also, sometimes uploaded documents just "vanish" from that app oh! Also did you read the message that was sent to your cic profile when it gave you a status of "further action required"? Usually, you see a little arrow beside any message you get on your profile which you click and it downloads the letter or message. They may have given you 7 days to upload a valid passport and you may have missed that message. All the same, its all good. There would be no prejudice for any future applications, just note your old UCI and or application number and ensure that you fill it in your next eAPR and explain in a detailed LOE what happened. It is a delay but nothing you should be too worried about. @beckyhopeful, the VO can request a schedule A for any reason. No hard rules on these. Most people say that you are asked for a schedule A if you answer yes to any statutory questions. Well, I did have a uk visa refusal which i disclosed during my eAPR and I never got a schedule A request and did not upload one upfront, so you see, its neither here nor there. Someone mentioned something about FD tenure ending, there is nothing to worry about. In fact, that should be a plus in my opinion, because that means that the funds would be available in your account, lol! As long as you maintain the funds requirement between now and your PPR you should be fine if the VO requests for an updated POF. Congrats to all on the progress of their respective PR journeys. 12 Likes |

@babachi, you may wanna hold off on registering for any exams until you land. There is a possibility of a review which would reduce the exams to 2 instead of 3 starting from next year. Well, as I am sure you already know, no license means no doctor job. There are physician assistant/clinical assistant jobs but you need a certification for that which you would pay for and in the grand scheme of things you may not wanna do that. There are also medical assistant jobs....like office assistant for a clinic, pays well but you need certification too. Bottom line is to get any job that pays okay and then work on your licensing exams or going back to school, etc etc. Please bear in mind that it may take you anywhere between 12-24 months to get licensed.... @40manlappy and @babachi congrats. @emiye, don't worry ppr is coming. It's just paper work. If you look through your gcms carefully you'll see a part during the copr section that will probably say "print queue" I submitted my app Nov 6th and was approved Dec 29th but took about 4 weeks before ppr came. Someone asked about pof being in forex or local currency. I think it's all up to you really. Ircc won't mind either or both as long as you meet the funds requirement and can show proof of source of funds. @optionese, my sister I follow you exclaim oh. It's a hilarious marra 4 Likes |

Congrats @slowlybtsurely, as your moniker goes, it has all worked out in the end. Super happy for you. @jolao, you mentioned that your spouse is working in a non clinical role, that is what I referred to as his other job. It's pretty simple, fill his work experience as it is. If Mr X worked as a gardener from 2010-2011, then janitor from 2012-2013, then chef from 2014-2015, that is how Mr X should fill his work experience. I got your pm but I'm not responding to pms from new members as all questions are best asked and answered on the thread for maximum benefit to all. @nekypalo, I recently contacted iqas as someone I know had a similar issue. Iqas would not send you any mail acknowledging receipt of your transcript until they have received your application form and proof of ID and copy of certificate. So they would have your transcript but would not have a file opened for you because they didn't receive your application form. The person I spoke to informed me of this and also said that if you send your documents by fax, you have to call immediately you send it to confirm that they have received it otherwise most times it just gets lost in transmission. She also mentioned that most of the applications sent via fax come out as illegible and blurry on their end and so sending the application forms via mail is their preferred option. So, I'll advise that you resend your application form n other documents asap. @40manlappy, @boldinc, @onlineise, @ugoiyke, @esosa4real, how mar-kate? 4 Likes 1 Share |

@wunmi, you need to prioritize your immediate desires and ultimate goal. Your decision to get separated or divorced is a long term one that only you can decide. You are married at the moment and cannot at any point now or in the future apply as single. You would either apply as married, or legally separated or divorced. Unless you have a divorce settlement, you would be unable to apply under the category of divorced. As long as you have a spouse, whether accompanying or not, he is required by IRCC to obtain a medical report and police clearance as part of your application process. In my opinion, I think that if you do intend to migrate in the near future, it is easier to find a way around your domestic situation and get your spouse to get his medicals and pcc. I assume that if he intended to "illegally migrate" to the states then he really should have no squabbles supporting a Canadian pr app unless you are the one insisting that you would not list him as an accompanying spouse....In that case, he is sure to dig his heels in. So you need to decide if you wanna compromise now and get your ducks in a row and migrate or if you wanna wait until you obtain a divorce before you go ahead. Nothing stops you from getting separated or divorced after you have migrated. 4 Likes |

what is included in your reference letter under job description? your job title is not as important as the job function. your NOC is decided by the work responsibilities listed in your letter which should match about 70% of the NOC job functions listed for the category you choose to select. mokaz: 2 Likes |

Thank you @optionese. @boss13 stop trying to shove a pill down people's throats. You are not IRCC or a VO. No one here makes the guidelines, only IRCC does. The guideline clearly states that the account should bear the name of the PA. If my spouse has the funds and is willing to put them towards pof, then why can't he/she send the funds to my account? A VO is at liberty to think this way or not. Neither you nor I can say. There is a rule on pof and I posted the screen shot from the cic website in my previous post. Stop trying to be an authority when you are not. There was a time during student visa applications to the UK and other countries from Nigeria, embassies would very willingly grant visas to intending students with their sponsors bank statements, proof of source of income and letter of sponsorship. There was also a time when the same UK embassy would require that the funds for the student MUST be available in the students account prior to visa application. Even if the sponsor of said student is the parent. We must at all times remember that Nigerians are always treated with special scrutiny during visa applications, no thanks to our fellow citizens who have knowingly and unknowingly broken the rules before. Also our reputation as a "fraudulent" country does not help. Sticking to IRCC rules is the way to go. In addition, if you read my timeline you'll see that my pof was accompanied by a long LOE. My spouse transferred some of the required funds to my account and my loe as well as his clearly stated to the VO that it was done so as to comply with the rules as stated in the IRCC guideline regarding POF. All bank transfers for said purpose had documentary evidence as well as his source of income via documentary evidence of his current job. I had no issues with my application. In fact, I submitted my app on Nov 7th or so and gcms shows PR was approved on Dec 30th. I have no personal experience of any Nigerian who has successfully used a spouse's account as pof. I have only read of other nationalities. Enough talk on this issue. Let each applicant do as he/she seems fit. optionese: 11 Likes |

Below is a screenshot of the IRCC's latest guideline for POF as regards eAPR applications submitted from January 2016 and beyond. Please let ALL persons take note of what it says. I am quite uncomfortable with the recent notion that your required funds can be in a name other than yours. While it may be "acceptable" for the pof to be in a spouse's account, that is a discretionary decision that the VO chooses to take. It is NOT the guideline. Also find below the IRCC guideline for lock in date for age. Someone brought this up earlier and it may not have been noted by ITA hopefuls and recipients. Worthy of mention is that your age is locked in at eAPR SUBMISSION and not ITA receipt. So if you have a birthday after receiving ITA and before eAPR submission, you would lose 5 points for age and should re-calculate your CRS to be sure it doesn't fall below the cut off for your draw before submission. 3 Likes 2 Shares

The eAPR, PCC slot always has multiple in brackets in the upload section for ALL applicants unless that system recently changed. If you are required to submit 10 pccs, you'll merge all into one pdf file and upload in that single slot. the eAPR process does not generate multiple slots for PCC upload. Your occupation in your NOC used for the purpose of FSW does not have to match that on your marriage certificate if the period of employment is not synchronous. Simple reason being that it is at the applicant's discretion to choose which occupation he or she desires to migrate under as well as the number of years of employment he/she desires to claim points for. For example, if an applicant studied microbiology in school and worked as a laboratory scientist for 2011-2013 and got married in 2012 and the marriage certificate bears lab scientist and then same applicant changed jobs and became a sales manager for 2014-2017, the applicant can choose to claim only 3yrs for work experience as a sales manager and there would be nothing wrong with that application. There is the portion of the eAPR where the applicant is required to fill appropriately their activities over the past 10 yrs or since they turned 18 yrs. This is where you fill in all your info as regards employment or unemployment, schooling, etc. Basically what you have been doing with your life. Lol! Things like previous jobs or roles feature here. As with ALL applications, if you have areas of discrepancy, like the case of a poster a few months ago who noticed that he had a wrong occupation filled on his marriage certificate, the applicant should make moves to apply for a correction and also wrote a letter of explanation to that effect including any documentary evidence available to support. Nobody's application is set in stone and there is no need for unnecessary panic as there is no one size fits all approach. Follow the IRCC rules and where you have genuine concerns about any areas that you feel may appear ambiguous to a VO, utilize your LOE to explain alongside supporting documentation. 11 Likes |

It is your insistence on the spouse's account being submitted as pof that is the issue here. The guideline to any PR application is what IRCC has clearly specified in their section under mandatory documentation. It is clearly written that the proof of funds should bear the name of the principal applicant. IRCC does not and has not stated on any official correspondence that the POF should bear the name of the spouse. Personal experiences from applicants all over the world have led to individual interpretations of this rule based on their individual experiences with the VO who manages their individual cases. I use the word individual so many times in the above sentence because every application is individualized. The guideline is the IRCC recommendation. Based on this, if a PR applicant intends to follow the rules, said applicant should POF that bears his/her name. In this case a joint account bears the applicant's name and complies with the rules. A spouse's account does not bear the applicant's name and according to the IRCC rules does not comply. That VOs choose to accept a spouse's account based on their discretion does not make it the guideline. A spouse can at any time he or she desires willingly give funds to his or her partner. It makes sense to any VO that a gainfully employed spouse or one with a source of income for instance from a business can provide funds in bulk sums to his/her partner for whatever reason he/she so desires. Whatever investment said spouse chooses to engage himself in is actually irrelevant to the VO in this case seeing as the spouse is a dependent on this application. The funds invested in a cooperative did not fall from the sky, it came from somewhere. A letter of explanation more than suffices because it EXPLAINS why the funds were transferred, when they were, where they were sourced from and can include evidence of the transfer instruction as well as evidence of gainful employment or business. Hi everyone. @post ITA thread, anyone can create a thread. You simply moderate it and hope that people contribute meaningfully. As regards the entire eAPR process post ITA, i find it funny that anyone who has bothered to read this thread and bothered to click on dupyshoo's posts or on mine would mention that they have no post ITA info. Major problem is that we do not like to read, we want easy fixes, quick answers, etc etc etc. It amazes me that an individual who intends to make a move as serious as relocating to another country and intends to utilize funds for this process cannot read every single info available on the said process. Anyway like they say "we are all different.......personal circumstances may not allow mr x or mrs y read....yadi yadi ya" If we all on this thread take time to drop our posts when we hit a snag and find a solution and so on, there would be loads of info. Canadavisaforum has a lotta info mostly because its populated with Asians who freely and liberally share their experiences. Bottom line, read, learn, share. Asking questions repeatedly over issues that have already died and been buried is quite annoying. This thread is currently over 490 pages and yet my fellow naija bro or sis will still ask "how can i register for ielts......what is the wes timeline.....i have 2 degrees, which should i evaluate......etc etc etc" Simple questions that you can ask google and it will answer you. Wes and Iqas sef have provided explanations as regards the different statuses on your evaluation, IRCC has clearly explained what degree to evaluate. CRS tool, simple q&a gives your score estimate.......like really, why can't a prospective applicant just read. Okay, okay if all this fails, what happened to using the search bar Anyway, i don rant finish. Congrats to the latest ITA recipients. Kindly do your best to submit as soon as you can. So many things wrong with this response in my opinion. The spouse can and i advise should transfer the funds to his wife who is the PA. He ony needs to write a letter of explanation that he did so to assist in meeting the funds requirement for their family size. To further support this, he can opt to include his work history and reference letter under the employment section of his own form during eAPR just to show that he earns an income however this is not compulsory. The PA should submit her 6 months' bank account statement and any evidence the cooperative can provide to show how long the funds she invested with them were held for and so on. The spouse does not need to provide any evidence from the cooperative. The PA should use her international passport as it is and should not use any 'new name' or fill any other name anywhere else as there is no evidence of such a name on any of her documents. A marriage certificate suffices to show prooof of relationship to her spouse. Boss13: 4 Likes |

Someone asked about moving around with kids n school age.....can't remember who. Well, you need your kid(s) with you for most of your documentation like for landing, SIN, health card, etc. However if you do not intend to take your kid(s) along for other things such as opening a bank account for yourself, you would have to make proper arrangements for care for them unless you have family or friends to do so. Compulsory schooling starts at 5yrs for kindergarten and 6yrs for grade one. 3-4yrs is preschool age and is optional and not part of the public school system. You can opt to keep your child at home till 5yrs or enrol in a daycare, dayhome or preschool all of which are privately owned and therefore you get to pay. Your child has to have attained the age for the class by Dec 31st of the school year. So for instance, if your child is to start grade one by Sept 2017, he or she should turn 6 on or before Dec 31st 2017. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Hello everyone. I landed last month in Calgary. Its been a struggle trying to post because I've been quite busy but i'll try to share my experience thus far. I have a toddler and I am currently pregnant so we decided not to take a direct flight from Nigeria. We flew medview to London and spent a couple of days there then flew air canada to Calgary. Medview........let's just say that would be the first and last time we would fly them. They were totally disorganized at the Lagos airport in terms of checking in passengers and there was so much uproar which ended up in the flight being delayed by over an hour. However, the aircraft we used was quite large and the leg room in economy was quite spacious and they made up for all the drama with the food which was quite savoury especially if you have a taste for Nigerian cuisine....they had fried and jollof rice (fried rice wasn't great at all, jollof was nice), pounded yam and egusi, amala and ewedu. The pilot more than made up for the delayed departure by landing us in Gatwick only 5 mins later than schedule. Down sides - no in flight entertainment. Air Canada was good. Aircraft was lovely, in flight entertainment, cabin crew and meals were lovely as well. They are also kid friendly and leg room was good. Flight was smooth until landing which became quite turbulent due to the weather. Flight duration was 8.5 hrs. At YYC, it took about 20-30 mins to get from the aircraft, go through immigration and pick up our baggage. Then we headed to the department that handles landing and had to wait for about 2hrs before it got to our turn. We landed on a Sunday so I don't know if that was the reason for the long wait. However, I realized that if one of us went to that department and took a number while the other picked up the bags, it would have accelerated things a bit as that was what some people did. Landing took about 5-10 mins. We had booked a hotel nearby to stay for the first night and they sent us a pick up at the airport. We had found an apartment 2 months earlier on rentfaster.ca and a friend had helped view it and pay a deposit on our behalf and we were to sign the lease which was to start the day after our arrival. We had intended to rent a car the next day, go to meet with the landlord at our apartment, inspect and sign the lease then go get a few necessities since the apartment was unfurnished. However, come morning we realized that we couldn't rent a car because we required a credit card which we did not have. Let's just say things started getting a bit frustrating from that point on..........mostly because moving around is expensive by uber or cabs and although where we live has a good transit system, moving around with a toddler and a bump ism't exactly a glass of wine but oh well, so far so good. Lesson to be learnt - land with a functional credit card and plan to rent a car or buy one as soon as you can especially if you have a family. Then proceed to commence the process for obtaining a drivers license for the province in which you reside. As regards documentation, we got everything done in the first week...health cards, social insurance numbers, etc. It isn't a complicated process at all. My impression of Canada (through the eyes of Calgary) thus far........Its a diverse community and most people are pleasant. They make eye contact with you and converse easily. No one has a problem understanding you if you speak proper English with your Nigerian accent. Everyone we have met or spoken to on the phone always always ask you how to correctly pronounce your name and usually get it on the first or second try. Calgary seems lovely to me, the kind of place I would like to raise my kids in. A few things I have learnt thus far......mobile data plans zap at the speed of light here. Getting a home internet is a huge help in that regard. The weather is actually good this time of year. Child care is expensive so for families with preschoolers, factor that in as a top priority. 138 Likes 28 Shares |

@ladobet, when it comes to immigration, more is better. Simply get an affidavit declaring that your old passport with passport number xyz and bearing name xyz was lost at xyz date. In your application, under the statutory question that asks if you have been refused a visa or entry into any country, indicate yes and explain the country that refused you a visa and the reasons given at the time and when. Upload any evidence such as rejection letters if available Also when submitting your application, explain in detail about your old passport and the travel history on it as well as the previous visa rejection and attach the affidavit of lost passport. This should more than clarify any grey areas to your visa officer. @epudome, yes you can request for a remark within 6 weeks of your ielts exam. Someone asked about submitting fd without bank statement. I'll advise against that. Remember ircc is not only interested in your bank balance but is interested in your financial history. 1 Like |

It's obvious thepiidgin does not understand what the child care benefit is and has not even bothered to read about it....just as I said in my earlier response. First of all it is not for low income earners alone. Whatever income the family earns is put into a scale and whatever you are eligible for, you get. So I wonder where the "I know for a fact that if you're getting benefit you are a low income earner" came from. The information is readily available online and there is even a calculator to estimate what you are eligible for based on your annual income from the previous year after filing your taxes. That being said, you don't have to apply for any form of benefit if you don't want it. However if you do give birth to a Canadian child it's automatically applied for and as long as you continue to meet conditions for residency within Canada, you would get it. This is a living in Canada thread for Nigerians who are moving, have moved or plan to move to Canada. It follows that conversations about government support would be carried out here. It is not a "how not to live in Canada" thread. Like I said in my earlier post, the brilliant minds who sat down and laid down those policies are not dumb. As regards maternal's response, I think only someone who cannot comprehend the use of sarcasm would take offense. When the phrase that referred to welfare ....free housing, etc. It was actually meant that the Canadian benefit is not welfare. I don't know if TheCongo2 has existing beef with maternal but it sure came across as such. Attacking and using capital letters doesn't exactly convey the sharing of an opinion with the intent to contribute useful information. In my personal opinion, thepidgin was brash and her comment was quite off putting especially as it was not value adding to the thread. 46 Likes 3 Shares |
