HigherEd:Thank you for presenting those facts. I agree absolutely now! |
Gudfrie:I tell you brother. The leaders are aware of thes too. But the foundation is destroyed: what can the righteous do? Everyman for himself now o. Ko lo ri di ori mu ![]() |
genghiskhan007:CU is coming up. But I don’t think it’s at Unilag’s level yet. Sometimes the best way to argue is to present facts. Standard of admission, quality of graduates, employment prospects, facilities, school environment and how conducive they are, plus academic offerings and R & D. I don’t see CU beating Unilag in half of these. The Alumni’s of Unilag are also well placed. At best CU is top 5 behind UI and OAU. |
austin2all:With God... all things are possible! |
Iwanttoto:It’s not preaching sir. It’s a personal thingy. A nation is only rich when the people are rich. We won’t do well, if you are left behind. That’s what the talks talks is saying. |
I am mortified by all the PR on Ambode’s projects. They are basic things that governments need to do. It’s almost time for elections. We need to be sensitive - the government may be showcasing these stuffs to hoodwink citizens for votes. We must judge each leadership according to their innovative policies and initiatives. Tinubu, and later Fashola’s, efforts with BRT, waste management, infrastructure (e.g. Eko Atlantic) and sports changed the face of Lagos. Ambode is simply building on that. Only initiative I see over the Internet is the LASEMA, which is highly commendable. Please let’s stop gratifying these guys when they are simply doing their jobs. After’ all they are getting paid for it. |
Congratulations bro. It’s this kind of news that pushes a lot of youths to pursue the fast lane (Yahoo). They tend to forget these guys paid the dues with a lot of hard work and ‘street smart’. But Who can blame them? Average youth studies at the Uni/Poly. Spends roughly 3 years passing Waec/Jamb and gaining admission. Spends 5-6 obtaining the degree due to strike. Graduates, and proceed for NYSC. And for law and medical students; undertake compulsory Bar and Housemanship of about a year and half. Guy/lady is now like 25/26 - and some dimwit companies will put up adverts for graduates not more 25 with 2 years experience! Some others won’t study for degree. He/She does not want to study at higher levels - and quite rightly, we don’t all have to. He’s left with petrol attendant, street-side school teacher, or learn some trade and earn a meagre 8 - 15k; if so blessed. Dads/Mum are retired a couple years. Others only privileged to set up shops and businesses. But business is very slow - for obvious reasons. Inflation is at its peak. Consumers don’t have high purchasing power - because the income (minimum wage for instance) is not commensurate with the higher cost of living as a result of bad economic policies. So what are we left with? About 70% (guess) of economically active citizens who are not contributing meaningfully to the economy. Reality is starker. There are no alternative careers for youths to pursue. There is no Asda or Morrison’s that youths can do apprenticeship and make a good life, Just like Timaya. There are no mildly strenuous pensionable train or bus stations that our 50-70 yr olds can work, pay taxes and make a good life for their wards. There are no benefits whatsoever for new born babies - moreso, for being a Nigerian. #We must all wake up - and empower ourselves. This is not about building a multi-million naira house like Timaya. It’s about making a good life for our family, and building a sustainable community for our future generations. We can’t afford to make the same mistakes our fathers did. |
HigherEd:Laudable! But looks too PR. |
In a couple more years... sex will be a social norm. Kids will have sex at their leisure Females will walk the streets unclad Males/married men will have multiple sex partners to the ‘obvious of the wives’ Weird sexual desires - such as we are beginning to witness in the dolls will be the in-thing. #and before we know it., we would be back to the days of Adam and Soddom and Gomorrah - albeit without any shame or remorse! |
MIKOLOWISKA:That’s another angle. But lots of folks these days even have babies before marriage. |
Nothing wrong with staying off marraige... if you not financially and emotionally stable for the life time decision. African parents and marraige are like 5 and 6. Its almost like it’s taboo not to get married before 35. If you ask me, it’s not so much about the choice of the life partner... it’s more about the showbiz and social respect amongst their peers! #but I may be wrong, after all the marraige isn’t the ceremony. |
nwabobo:This man was elected based on his experience and nationality: must everything be tribalised in this country? And you wonder why everything isn’t working for the Nigerian government?.. A nation divided against itself CANNOT stand! As we grow older... we should teach our children better,... we can’t afford to create the same hatred and problems that our fathers brought us BETWEEN... This is an argument I put to all Tribalists on NL.. “To the international community., ‘We are, first, Nigerians, before we are Yorubas or Igbos and Hausas.” I do not like the British-imposed amalgamation. But the fact is, if he succeeds, the Nigerian judge succeeds... if he fails... the Nigerian Judge failed. A fortiori, please quit all these hate speeches when a member of other tribes achieves something significant... if anything, we should pray he succeeds. The ICC is known to prey on African leaders, because they are ‘supposedly’ ruthless. But Who is more ruthless than the American and British leaders who commit crimes against humanity in the guise of doing ‘good’. I pray God grants the learned Judge the wisdom to do good by himself, family and his nation. |

AnonHq:Alright sir! |
joan1678:Many thanks for your comment. Not at all. I know nothing of the medical profession. |
AnonHq:I am sorry if you think I am petty, I suppose you are not objective enough. Perhaps you can provide the figures that the highest paid doctors collect. And show me the highest paid doctors on the list of richest men. I didn’t want to respond to your bias thought before: I would rather provide you with facts, but I think I need to educate you a bit. You should be exposed enough to know that investment bankers, hedgfund managers and even international corporate lawyers get paid more than your highest paid doctors. Go and read about M&A deals or perhaps the significance of Canary Wharf to the Uk. I thought payment has nothing to do with what makes a profession noble. I would have thought you’d mention the fact that Doctors save lives... and saving lives is what they are trained to do. When you talk about the real world leaders or top of the hierarchy like you call it, check the statistics of the life movers... even military men rank higher! So pls quit making wrong assertions because of some difficulties you guys go through with educating yourself in Nigeria. To be honest I don’t even think anyone thinks of doctors of some special deal here: everyone is rich enough to make a good life here. Ts poverty that made education really attractive in Nigeria. Try get out of Nigeria and you know what I mean. |
AnonHq:May be in Nigeria sir! You should take your time to read on the Wall Street, Silicon Valley, Canary Wharf and Chancery Lane. I am sure you will be convinced you are wrong sir! |
Blackfyre:Big Amen boss... and you too. |
Lovely write up. But from experience... many awesome things that people do and we bear witness to, are by sheer grace of God. Quite a number of people - Davido being the top of my list - do not fly alone, shed their old habits etc... like you have mentioned... but they have gone ahead to carve a niche for themselves. I think we are what we are, and will be what we will be,... by our determination and the sheer grace of God. #lovely write up still. |
Krucifax:Mere semantics bro. Good analysis btw |
People won’t mind their business... is it their lie? ![]() Dude said he gave a speech at Harvard.. so what? And that Olabisi lady will sit in her ‘cubicle’ typing some badly-punctuated, error-ridden hate speech against her fellow Nigerian. #awon Thomas gbogbo. Pelu eleyi Olori funfun yen Na to pa ara e ni SAM Josh. |
Excellent one! Life is in a constant state of flux, but We need to stay relevant, no matter what, whichever legit way! Azadus., Tony Montana, Biglow, 2phat, and even styl plus et al. Have all gone quiet as well. I hope Davido and the likes prepare themselves for that inevitable fall. #its called the law of diminishing returns. |
Very true.... but sometimes it’s sheer Grace. You forgot the God factor. “No one can have any good thing except it be given him from above “ John 3:27. #and you don’t need to be a Christian to enjoy this. It’s a given. A basic essence of living. |
This is indeed world class! But truth be told.. These sort of infrastructure, particularly health and power related, is a given in an ideal society. It’s strange that we have to praise our leaders for providing the basic needs of the people - for which they are elected. |
I hope things can change. If, with all these effortss... we still end up having the same ‘old recycled Buhari or Atiku’ government... our Mumu will still be doing |
400billionman:If what you say is true... I guess the white’s influence in SA is the factor. I wish the British colonised us for a couple more years ![]() |

yomibelle:Otedola is not that rich. |
sholatech:Many thanks for this brother... cheers. |
sholatech:Awesome. Could you please refer me to the present guideline for Bank interest rate? Or the MRR? If they are different. Apologies, i don’t know much about the banking sector. I can’t thank you enough! |
I have Searched tirelessly on google, and I couldn’t find the information. Please advice on the CBN interest rate which applies to Escrow Accounts in Nigeria: and what guideline I can find the information. I really need this information ASAP..... please!!! I would appreciate a link to the information. Thanks a bunch. |
Queenara:Sometimes love can be toxic... especially when you love the wrong people. I can’t forget the young lady who stabbed her lover last year with a scissors. I am sure wherever she is right now.. she would forever regret the day allowed ‘love’ to get into her head. May God grant us the wisdom to love... and love rightly |

Nigeria is a poor country by comparison. Do you know that the four biggest African banks are in South Africa? The fifth and the ninth one are in Egypt. The sixth and the tenth one are in Morocco. The seventh is in Algeria. While the eight biggest African bank is still in South Africa. Let us stop making mouth and rather make money
