Yampotatocarrot:PoC, Companies don’t file for bankruptcy- they go insolvent and are wound up. Individuals/sole traders go bankrupt. Regardless I was just letting you know that judgement debt can be levied against assets. No issues at all. Thanks . |
Yampotatocarrot:Employer doesn’t win, if the Court finds that they owe the claimants for outstanding wages. They will be indebted - whether or not they have the money to pay. Judgement debt can be levied against cash in bank account or assets… doesn’t matter if you have the money or not. |
Talk2david1:I am surprised at the comments to your question on the front page. Shows the level of seriousness of Nairaland users - on Quora you would have got far more intelligent comments even from people who are not lawyers. That said, yes you can sue your employer at the National Industrial Court for non-compliance. YHowever, certain establishments are exempted from paying the National Minimum Wage - National Minimum Wage Act 2019 exempts the following establishments: - an establishment in which less than 25 workers are employed; - an establishment in which workers are employed on a part-time basis (those working for less than 40 hours per week); - an establishment at which workers are paid on commission or on piece-rate basis; - workers in seasonal employment (as agriculture) and - seamen/crews of aircraft. If you are a teacher and your school employs more than 25 full time employees- it’s best you take an action together with other employees willing to pursue the action. You guys can apply to serve a notice of compliance on your employer too - but please speak with a Lawyer. You will be able receive all the money that has accrued since you started working with that employer, including interest! But please - don’t take a court action against an employer that doesn’t have the money to pay! It’s essentially fruitless. Hope that helps.

JB4life:That doesn’t explain why you had to be born. The circle of sin could have stopped with Adam and Eve… why were you born? Your explanation compounds the problem, Why do you have to bear responsibility for someone else’s sin? I am a Christian and I have to be to make heaven. All of these could have been avoided if we were not born at all!!! I guess that’s my point. |
Life and Death is a mystery. So many things are unexplainable. Sometimes I wonder why we have to be born at all, only to die. It is well. |
The girl was clearly rude and the woman was feeling entitled. She probably felt disrespected because the girl was black - buh really most of the blacks raised abroad have the same attitudes with the whites. That’s why many Nigerian men would prefer to marry their wives from their home country after securing their papers. I won’t put up with that attitude too but would rather walk away! |
Sometimes love makes you do crazy things. I have… but most times it doesn’t end well. Every time people beg for love it’s always that the other person is not genuinely interested. That’s why people end up getting married to whoever is available. May God help us to meet the right persons with the same energy we share. |

Fundamentalist:True. The trick is in developing your skills outside of academics. By the way "are being" not 'are been". The rule is that "been" only goes with "have" verbs. Thanks |
Winningbot:Hmmm… very bitter truth. I too was thinking about my life today. How I have got so used to being with my parents and having them do everything for me. I just need to accept that at some point a man will leave his father’s home to go start his own. It’s scary - especially the feeling that I wont have them with me. They are the only ones that have genuinely loved me without a condition, putting up with all my shortcomings as a Son. I pray Heaven helps me to be a good father to my kids and give them a peaceful and loving home like my parents have given me in the last few years. |

bemagnify:. Correct. But The LPC option applies only to those with a UK LLB or GDL Degree. But in any case, it’s phased out now - and replaced with the SQE 1 & 2. |
bemagnify:Alright - I have not seen these but I guess it’s worth exploring. Potentially Nigerian qualified lawyers may be admitted to practice on this basis. |
bemagnify:Not sure what you mean by apply for exemptions - but foreign qualified typically write a QLTS exam. |
hoylumeeday:Correct, just got a new one - and travel history was on the old passport. Old one wasn't submitted physically at TLS though - just the new one. |
bemagnify:Not LLM. THE LPC |

Woeful performances I must say. I followed the Olympic Games keenly. Nigerian Sprinters were the most disappointing - aside from ENOCH ADEGOKE who impressed a bit. That said, this medal list is not correct though. For example, 1. I know for a fact that Uganda had 2 Gold medals, I saw the men’s 5000 meters for example. JOSHUA CHEPTIGAI. 2 Golds - 1 Silver and 1 Bronze for Uganda, at the very least. 3. Kenya had 3 Golds 3 Silvers and 2 Bronze. |
athaboi:Karma, you mean. Kindly correct. |
YeyeBoyfriend:Your contact pls |
By the way, guys that have done their TB test recently... How long did it take to get the results, given the surge? Just planning around my 28 days to end around the time my TB test results should be out. Cheers. |
Lhawboy:How did you choose a slot. The whole dates are filled! |
Miami is reputable for huge constructions financed through money laundering schemes in the early 19th century. Used to be home to russian mobs and haitian thugs. May God have mercy on the souls of the dead. |
AlhajiNatty:Your analysis is not correct. Firstly, it is not all Ndi-igbo that has clamoured for self determination. So your allusion to two-faced attitude amongst the Yorubas is true of the Igbos too. And it is not a bad thing for some people to prefer this current structure - after'al many persons still benefit from this structure (whether igbo or Yoruba). Secondly, do not conflate the aggitations of the two tribes as the same. This is what I understand it to be: 1. Some Igbo persons aggitates for a separate country - Biafra. [Secession] 2. Some Yorubas aggitates for a separate Nation - Oduduwa. [Republican structure]. If my understanding of Governance structure is correct, the two aggitations are mutually exclusive. |

House1411:OP it took me 2 (two) weeks back then. Finished Law School in Nigeria - I was going by flight to Abuja for the call to bar ceremony. I just asked the young lady in front of my seat if she was going to Bwari as well - as I needed company in the chartered taxi. Turns out she was 10 years at the bar already! And was working with the Securities & Exchange Commission. OMG she looks so young, even till date, you will never tell. Long story short we exchanged contact. Told her I needed a job in Abuja and I wanted to run away from the hussle and bustle of lagos. She asked me to send my CV. OP, this woman sent my CV to almost all the Big Corporate Law Firms in Nigeria - and I got emails from about 5 of them. It was now just a matter of choice for me - but I later decided to settle fr Lagos because that was where the real Banking & Finance legal works was really Practiced. Might I add that I Made First Class both in my Under grad (LLB) and at the Nigerian Law School (BL) - so perhaps that was a factor. Moral: Always be confident to speak with people about your job need, even the person sitting next to you in church - in a bus - restaurant etc. But I guess again it's boils down to your conversation and social skills. There are books you can get online on how to improve your social skills (see e.g. How To Win Friends and influence People by Dale Carnegie). This approach helped me a lot when I was seeking internships back then - in some instances, I literally sent random Inmail to industry experts in my field on LinkedIn. Many times the traditional online applications and sending of CVs just may not be enough. Hope this helps someone out there. Thanks ![]() |
Too many cases of rape and sexual assault recently. Sex offenders should have a public register, available to be checked online by interested persons. You could easily check the names on such website before having personal or business relationship with anyone. The stigmatisation will be an added deterrent. |
