PoliticsRe: Brown Vs Yaradau by vigasimple(m): 10:28pm On Jul 08, 2007
There is something not quite right with this man Yar adua and taking over 1 month to get ministers list together.

Let look a the equation, he has 48 months in office (1st Term) and he will start to campaign or election in top gear in 36 months, strike here strike there, it is down to 24 months.

Any good leader would always have plans ready for win or lose the election, so it doesn't matter, he should have ordered state to submitt names within 3 days and by the clsoe of the ist week all names are ready, any amendement should be done further 2 days , by the 2nd week it is in the senate and decision within days.

slow motion and no motion sometimes are not too dfferent.

Energy emergency after one months where is it.

In the first place Yar adua was elecet/selected 21st April and has another 1 month before swearing in. He has more than enough time to get his act together.

You cannot lose 4-6 weeks in a 4years term of office doing practically nothing or shall we say receiving solidarity visits.

What is going on now is some shaddy transisiton(interim ministers) to chop there own for 6-12 weeks before the real ministers, so the lacuna will give the new minister excuse as the 'interim ministers' are just there to chop money to compenasate them for election. They are handpick by yar ardua and nothing to do with senate.

God will help us amen
PoliticsRe: Rivers Woos Militants With 1 Million Naira Each by vigasimple(m): 10:10pm On Jul 08, 2007
It simply shows how daft is our government(in this case the state govt)

1. this encourage militantcy and reward them either in the niger delta or elsewhere

2. people who are not militant and law abiding would think it pay's to be a militant and by inference a rogue and armed bandit.

The militants are the equivalent of politicians (in their case using guns to blackmail and make a monetary demands)

I gurranteed you paying each and everyone of them including all the law abiding citizen of those niger delta states 1 million each it will never solve their problem

Take for example if 1000 people were to be paid 1million each it will amount to 1Billion, and are there not more than 1000 or more militant.

If the govt of the day were to invest 1 billion in each local govt of the niger delta state the impact would be seen and clear and people will get training and jobs

Foolishness sometimes breed stupidity, afterall those politicians are foolish to be there in the first place. they are not capable, they knew it.

may God in his infinite mercy help us. Militants are just rogues, who are blackmailers and demand monies, they should be campaiging openly and showing the country their plights, abduction etc will just have the reverse effect of sympathy from any other part of the country.

Preoil

You have got your answers to your questions from DENEX.

We are our brothers and nations keeper and we should be on the look out for people who are simply out to destroy others be it individual, a particular tribe , religion or a group.

Until you have a very clear and unambigous knowledege and information that can stand simple morals and the law of the land, we should continue to use the word ALLEDGED.

That way it is an unproven allegation, i don't care who the person is, take for example our instinct and gut feelings about IBB with what we think he may have done but until there are good and reliable tested evidence I am afraid that simply remains an allegation.

let me go a step further, even in our own either immediate or extended family there are people who never and will never like us and will jump at any insinuation to discredit us not to talk of POLITICIAN. They are very dangerous breed of human being. They will kill for political office and what goes with it because of chop chop.

A word is enough for the wise. God bless all of us.
PoliticsRe: FG Might Remove Ribadu As EFCC Boss? by vigasimple(m): 6:45pm On Jul 03, 2007
THAT WOULD BE A HUGE MISTAKE AND A SETBACK IF RIBADU IS REMOVED.

IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND MANY PEOPLE THAT WILL NOT BE COMPROMISED.

infact I think it was on this thread that I read that some people within the EFCC are taking kickbacks. I am not surprise.

There is too much insecurity borne by POVERTY, our greatest enemy. Mismanagement, lack of leadership, embezzlement and diversion of  national funds into private pockets are the problems confronting Nigeria.

We need a visionary leader(s) that we stand firm and quietly change things without barking like OBJ.

A lot of people will not like it, OBJ who is now being demonise, we can all recall what the state, did ABACHA  left the country in before his demise.

Just as part of ways to address the nations problem, if all the former leaders, president, Governors etc could be make to have plea bargaining and give up a substantial part of their ill gotten wealth) maybe 90%) for a one off amnesty, so that we can get a sizeable monies back in our country.

The above is just a suggestion and opinion on how to move Nigeria forward. It is not what should happen or exhaustive.

Please let us keep brainstorming on how to move the nation forward and see past a backward at temps.

In my humble opinion at least for now removing RIBADU will be a major set back for the country and wrong signal to corruption and its allies.

God will increase our wisdom.
PoliticsRe: Sack Ribadu: •ibb, Others Mount Pressure On Yar’adua by vigasimple(m): 6:22pm On Jul 03, 2007
I think for the ordinary masses Yar Adua will be sending wrong message to them by removing or redploying RIBADU.

Usually, one tree does not make a forest. Ribadu is effectively EFCC. Once is gone, the next man wil not have the freedom to do as he pleases with information and evidence.

If you look at the people lobbying to have RIBADU removed are the set of people who has skeleton in their cupboard and have been looking forward to be able to breath sigh of relief.

RIBADU is unique and lucky to have OBJ give him freedom to chase anybody. Even with the so called selective justice, he practically chase or put fear in the majority of people destroying Nigeria including the former Governors.

Now that OBJ is gone, that would be an opportunity for him to then be asked to question all the protege of OBJ like Andy UBA,Adedibu etc

I am not sure that Yar Adua will allow RIBADU to arrest and prosecute Atiku as they both come from the same political stables. And all former governor because they 'step aside' for him during the pDP primaries. Take the example of IBORI and IGBINnedon, they played a major role in Yar adua candidacy knowing that they have to wet the ground for them to step on cool ground.

On a final analysis, Yar Adua should find a way to keep RIBADU quite for a while whilst he consolidate his government and thereafter send him out to catch 'he uncathable' and prosecute them.

God will show his kindness and bless our great country Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Fani Kayode Is A Thief, a blatant money laundering idiot by vigasimple(m): 2:13pm On Jul 03, 2007
Hello Preoil,

I am surprise at your use of language. Can you confirm that Fani Kayode has been arraigned before a court of Law and found guilty of being a thief and money launderer.

You call somebody a thief and money launderer, have you got any evidence other than newspaper articles.

Even if you do or any person have evidence present it to court. Just in case the evidence fail to stand the ' beyond reasonable doubt test' in court and he (Fani Kayode ) is not found guilty then you will have committed Libel and slander

It is better for you to suggest that it has been alledged that Fani Kayode is laundering money and alledged to have stolen money.

let us look at it another way, supposing I called you an Armed Robber, a murder and a rapist without being convicted by a Competent court of Law then I will have gone beyond what my freedom of speech permits me to. The same here you have gone beyond what your freedom of speech permits you simply because you can hide behind computer and the internet.

Think about where you are in Denmark, can any citizen just call another a Thief without being found guilty in court? If we are to promote Nigeria  and her people including you, we should stop using alarmist and grossly offensive language.

Let us use our freedom of speech with wisdom and always qualify our words and languages.

Whether or not fani Kayode has or has not comitt any of the allegation is a different matter which you as a citizen can report to the Police or any law enforcement authority so that he can be prosecuted. I don't hold brief for Fani kayode whether or not the allegations are true but every citizen remains innocent until proven guilty.

Has It occurs to you by any chance be it 1% that document can be falsfied against a person or a false accusser testified to falsehood, these are the reasons why evidence are tested in court before pronouncement of judgement.

Finally, you may or may not be aware that Fani Kayode took on the Airline establishment like British Airways, Lufthansa who are monopolising the air route and not paying any taxes in Nigeria, he exposed them. may be or may be not this people are looking for a way to dicredit him or any of the enemies he may have made (if any).

my point in a nutshell is that we should all mind our language. As what goes around do come around, he Fani kayode could be you ,your brother uncle, father tommorrow and you will start to shout foul play. We should take whatever the presss write or said with pinch of salt and suspicion. They also have newspapers to sell

May God bless our great country Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: What Do U Think About The President's Idea Of A Unity Govt by vigasimple(m): 11:13pm On Jul 02, 2007
I think Yar Adua's idea of govt of national unity is simply politics and outmanouvering a useless opposition.

Look, he doesn't have to do it. He 'won' at least 70% of the vote whether or not the election is rigged or not is debatable.

The opposition would lose either in court or Tribunal. If the Judges are minded to even gave the opposition any good looking at all, they as any ratioanle human beings will not see the opposition as any better than yar adua and infact my cause chaos than solve any problem.

I agreed wholeheartdly that electoral reform, good governance and other important issues are what the opposition should be debating and simply refuse to accept any kind of office or financial reward (front back or kickback). Whether or not they have enough discpline and intergrity is another matter.

I am not sure yar Adua is confident in his own ability to appoint good ministers and set out a dynamic vision for Nigeria. If he can he would carry the most important people along(the ordinary masses) and he would have secured his second term just like that barely even starting his first term.

just by way of digression, even though I do not agree with it for so many reasons, OBJ could have got Third term and even fourth Term if he set out a dynamic future and empower the youth, the next generation, he was busy serving the interest of PDP,. Infact OBJ wiould have been returned for third term 90% vote if he has been able to fix Electricity.

People are not stupid, Murtala was in office for 6 months the whole country did not forget him! IT is a question of performance and nothing more

I am begining to get cold feet about Yar adua as it seems he is not prepared for office because if he took him 1 month to deceide on his ministers, let just hope that he has a very good reasons and at the end of the day he chooses God fearing people with wisdom.

At the end of the day I think we need a goverment that will start to re-educate Nigerians especially the youth about new orientation and move away from almight money to service of your nation with pride.

One thing in my own opinion stands out that will turn Nigeria around apart from
'adult education' visionary leadership, it is fighting POVERTY and all it root causes. you can sing and pray with poverty nothing will work. People will steal for fear of the future (insecurity) and greed to save for the raining days.

May God in his infinite mercies be with all of us and our great country Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: To All Nigerian Youths by vigasimple(m): 5:33pm On Jul 02, 2007
Hello Everybody,

I am very impressed that the youth can glaringly see the problem and injsutice in this our country.

However, we are full of anger and that may blind our approaching the matter constructively and systematically.

Let me start by saying that we should try also to give credit to whom it is due even when we dish out our displeasure.

Firstly, for one reason I will say that a lot of people if they do not do a critical examination may not agree with me. You see that man OBJ for some reason find wisdom in his second term and appoint people like Soludo. Okonla-iweji. Ezesksili, Akinyuli, El -rufai, Ribadu etc- do you think this is just a pure coincidence or a man who have good intention of turning the country around. I will say OBJ has good intention of turning the country around but he is too old to be radical and purge Nigeria of their corrupt ways perphas he himself may have been compromised along the way. None of those ministers and CBN governor has nay father or grandfather as a previous in any government. So OBJ must have good intentions by appointing them in the first place and give them free hand to do what they think is right.

Secondly, you guy should read the contributions of aisha and angel101, start to change ourselves and orientation and then we can go after all the oldies, but we have to find a way to wrestle their powerbase away from them-Looted money. without good capital(capitalist and capitalism) base a socialist is just a noisemaker.

Joining PDP or any other party as they are presently constituted would propably not make any diffrence as these are well entrenched machinery and has a patronage built into it. They will silence you with money. If they can't do that they will fabricate and get rid of you once they know your true intention.

Infact they will even plant their informant in whatever meeting to be held and neutralise the so called youth with money and beutiful things. remember all those student union leaders of those days. where are they? They are either being compromised or marginalised.

As I am writing this piece I am yet to find (pending the conclusion of some research) how we are going divest this oldies of the monopoly of powers.

Let us keep brainstorming and hope that we will eventually find an everlasting answer to our questions of what we the youth are able to do to rescue our country from this dodgy politicians.

My instict tells me that something will happen like a divine intervention and swept al this people away, so we might as well start praying honestly for that divine intervention to come very quickly.

May God continue to be with all of us and our great country Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Declares His Assets by vigasimple(m): 3:45pm On Jun 30, 2007
The way I look at this is that any effort or attempt to bring trasparency should be commended.

Let me start with fuel and vat increase by OBJ. It is act  of political masterclass. What he OBJ has done subtly is to help Yar Ardua.

The election (or selection) of Yar Adua, which I think is a better man is a wise judgement by OBJ and also he OBJ does not have to increase the fuel price days before leaving office and leave that for Yar Adua to do. Since Yar Adua on getting to power will need accepting and consolidation by reversing the increase quickly increase his(Yar Adua) profile as a good leader and listerning one and demonise OBJ. But this is a carefully orchestrated move. So Yar Adua has dealt with a major issue and therefore he is good president. Kudos to OBJ and PDP poltical machine.

Now on the issue of Yar Adua asset declaration, McKREN set out the issues follow by FLT123, those 2 guys address what matters and so is also is DENEX, ENOLAISE and SARTORIOUS once you read all their contribution, you will see and agree with me that Nigeria has a great future. The issue is not just declaration for the sake of it, it is how that is acquired.

Assets declaration should be mandatory and authenticated and must be made on affidavitt i.e under oath and also has a column to declare if such declarant has any trustee holding any assets on his/her behalf, or indeed any secret trusts.

Finally whether or not it will be practicable to have any trustee to declare them being a Trustee of Political leaders especially President, Governor, Senators, House members , Local Govt chairmen Ministers, commissiooners etc. So that assets will not be concealed through 3rd party.

On the whole it is a good thing to declare assets and breakdown so that people can scrutinise it and ask appopriate questions. For example NLC ask some relevant question even though they also ask some silly ones, but without the declaration we cannot even debate it let alone ask relevant questions

This guy Yar Adua is educated, he is the President and commander in chief of the Armed Forces, by  virtual of that office and patronage he is rich now and in the future and our leaders should be well off in their own rights so that at least that in part will reduce corrupt inclination.

May God bless and continue to be with us and our Great country NIgeria.
PoliticsRe: For Presidency 45. For Governorship 40. How possible is that? by vigasimple(m): 11:26am On Jun 26, 2007
To Denex

What the present constitution of Nigeria says is that the minimum age as in most country, and the suggestion by the thread is that the minimum should be 40-45 years, and

I am suggesting that maximum before anybody becomes a Governor or President is 40-45 years , if you read my contribution above it clearly give the reasons.

You can only do things when you have the strenght of your youth, the energy is there and you can always sought advice on the experience and the historical matters, but you need all the physical and also mental energy you can get to run a state in nigeria notto talk of the country itself.

An oldman or women would just be sleeping when they suppose to be running around fixing the country's problem.

There is a caveat, it does not mean that some youth are not worse than old men in some circumstance but as a whole the youthful energy and exuberance and education is there as long as they don't marry too many wives or concubines or many mistress and in the case of women, not having sugar boy etc.

Youth+ Education+ humility/humbleness+ firmness/decisive= may just be equal to good leadership, especially if he/she has wisdom from God

May God continue to bless our country Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: For Presidency 45. For Governorship 40. How possible is that? by vigasimple(m): 8:58pm On Jun 25, 2007
The way I see it or I will like it to be is that anybody running for either the presidency and maybe even the governors should not be more than 40/45 (50 years at very worst case)

My own justification is that the amount of energy that is required to run a country or a state is so much that anybody above these ages will become tired quickly if not mentallyl but certainly physical. and there is no easier way to get tired mentally once you are tired physically.

Any tired person cannot fix anything, all they do is chop chop.

It is just my opinion and contribution and looking at political history all over the world the only few times old people does well is when they have fought for independence or some political freedom (like Mandela etc)

Having said that, we the youths of today uuhm, we are something else we have dreams to build 'empires and sand castles'.

We have copy the worst things from the older generation. chop and chop mentality.
God bless Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Who Do You Believe Won The April Presidential Elections by vigasimple(m): 6:06pm On Jun 24, 2007
To 'NuhuRibadu' (n02)

Good observation.

What OBJ and the rest of the Front leaders in the PDP are aware of is that if they did not rig the election in a subtle way, the other parties will rig an election they couldn't win.

They (the oppositon- ANPP, AC etc) knew they are worst tahn PDP and did not campaign seriously to discredit PDP- PDP no Power, no electricity for 8 years, that is enough to lose them the election.

In all honesty what has happen is that the PDP outrig the opposition which they the opposition admitted in secret. So it is the fittest of the top riggers.

Yar adua is the better candidate by miles. I don't know the man or PDP for that matter nor that I care less about them as they have not make use of the opportunity they have to move the country forward significantly but then knowing that majority of people in Nigeria are opportunist then one can understand.
PoliticsRe: Emeka Anyaoku For President by vigasimple(m): 8:41pm On Jun 23, 2007
I am not from the south east, but if Nigeria is going to produce its next president from the South east, people like Emeka Anyaoku is the type of candidate that nigerians need.

Also Soludo, Akinyuli and some other good ones.

BUT and it is a big but, what about the south east factor

1. Biafara
2. Inability for the people there to rally round one or two strong good and clean candidate.
3.Long throat
4. 'Clanishness' - Anambra(Nnwei mafia) and Onithsa and Aba cabals.

The above are powerful things that will militate against good people from the South East

Finally, there are two other factors from the Nigeria angles in general

1. Is thatNigerians percieved the average S/E candidate will only be using presidency to further Biafra cause and simply serve their own people more than Nigeria as a whole

2. Secondly, the almighty political class in Nigeria as a whole do not like good and clean andidate like Emeka Anyaoku

NIGERIAN NEED A VSIONARY LEADER THAT WE START RE-ORIENTATION then we will be on the way to true federation and happy co-exsstence.

The average Nigeria politician don't want things to change, they like the status quo, they benefits massively from it.

Whether or not people like Emeka Anyaoku and Soluso want to be drag into this dirty game is another matter.

May God guide Nigeria and her people with wisdom.

I am with denex on this one even though I will like him to find another way of replying the guy with this thread or tone down his language and anger.

Why will the UN says that Nigeria is a failed state, even the worst country on earth can never be said to have failed and in any event every country goes through diffrent period of evolution.

We have supported UN in peace keeping mission all over the world, we have run a deficient t election but continue with democracy however imperfect it may be.

Nigeria has paid its national debts and some reserves, has women Speaker of the House, Women ministers , technocrat in CBN and other important parastatal.

Even If we are yet to fix our electriicity, high unemployment and bad infrastructure we are not a failed country and by the special grace of God we will never fail.

So let this man find something constrcutive to do and stop running this country down even if other people or country does so or some international agencies like UN(which I believe they will never do) nigeria is to strategically important to the UN in Africa and the world.

May God continue to raise Nigeria above her enemies.
PoliticsRe: On Al-mustafa by vigasimple(m): 7:28pm On Jun 22, 2007
I am a lawyer and what the guy has been simply advised in my opinion is to refuse to recognise the court jurisdiction - in a layman language- the court authority and competence to hear the case.

That is the reason he is behaving like that, he knew that he has no case and no merit.

The guy is hoping on a favourable govt to come into power and release him on humanitarian ground so he will never face justice or become a convict.

His lawyers are getting paid heavily from his and abcaha loot and they are really smart until we find a Judge who is able to call their bluff and get on with the proceeding even if
Al-Mustafa refuses to give evidence or recognise the court.

He Al-mustafa could have ask for Court martial if he does not recognise the authority of a civil court. He is only playing games and the court are happy for him to be in custody to keep playing his game save that is costing the Nigeria govt a lot of money in keeping him

That man Al-mustaffa in my opinion is better at minimum spending a very long time in prison if not the rest of his life in Jail. We should not have shallow or short memory about him and Abacha. They are epitome of wickedness.

If I were his counsel I will advice him to ask for mercy and say in his defence that the boss Abacha gave me orders and as military man he dare not disobey otherwise knowing Abacha brutality he would have killed him and ask for mercy and show a geniue remorse, but leopard never change its spot. Al -Mustafa is not only proud of what he did but cannot even see what is wrong with it.

Justice will be done in the end.

May God continue to be with us and our great country Nigeria.
Car TalkRe: Must A Nigerian Guy Have A Car Before A Lady Agrees To Go Out With Him? by vigasimple(m): 6:14pm On Jun 22, 2007
There a 2stages or even more in a dating process.

The first is when you are a tenager and just having a good time, girl would love a boy and go out with him whether or not he has a car. But if he has car even better and this is the age of pure fun.

The second is when girls grow up and they are now thinking seriously about longtime relationship/marriage. Then friends and family pressure comes in as into you are marrying 'a guy without or with potential'

Strangely enough the first stage is the best even for the ladies. You date somebody for love and even if he has only one shirt and trouser, you pray together heavens will open. If the purpose of dating is for marriage, then once God approves the heaven will open and you will never want. You will not only have several cars but other heartly possessions.

What happens to if the guy have everything and for some strange reasons some years later after marriage and settling down with children the whole thing collapse and has nothing anymore. This can happen even in the west, uSA and UK etc.

Once you love each other and it is about long term , and God approves of your relationship you shall not want in the word of psalm 23

So girls that can't do without ride be very careful to make your relationship depends on ride. Love and then work at it together both of you will even have a ride. Suppossing is the gal that have a ride would you not take him in your ride or suppossing he can't even drive.

It occurrs to me that what the gals are saying on this site is representative of majority and it is sad reflection of the world today. it has been like that before I was born and it will continue to be like that. As a general rule our ladies can be very shallow, materilalistic and only live for today, ain't the love that counts but the greenbacks and sterling or naira.

I prayed that God in his mercies we supply all our love unconditionally. Would your brother refuse to be your brother and vice versa without a ride? think about it.
FamilyRe: The Most Important Factor In Marriage by vigasimple(m): 4:16pm On Jun 22, 2007
There are relationship from 2  diffrent perspectives.

One if you are based in Nigeria things are likely to be diffrent. Nigerain women are likely to submitt to their husband whilst husband maybe a bully.

If you are based abroad, the relationship and input will be diffrent Nigerian women would propably like to bully their husband and husband trying to patch up things.

Now let me tell you where are I am coming from.

The most important attribute/factor in a marriage is once you find somebody you take a liking is to pray to God and find out if he/she is the one. Every other things are immaterial.

Let me tell you, that person will love you and you will love them in return.the rest are just physical. You can even take a good cook, if God bless you financial both lern how to cook to be there for each others, or evenn buy food or eat out. ther are no hard and fast rule.

If we are talking in the physical sense and not spiritual, LOVE is the most important attribute and even sex/good in bed or cook or no cook are a minor thing.

One of the few things Ican tell you about love making is to both find time to put your worry aside and get your partner to the climax, and women especially should stop worrying at this time just get to the climax and can continue worry afterwards.

A minister told us a story just last week, her wife cannot cook a particular food, so when her in laws are coming the husband would quickly do the food for the wife and for over 35 years nobody knew.

A lot people have sex and don't make love. love making is just lie in bed together kiss and cudle just be happy just by each others. the physcial act of sex especially from the men angle amy not last more tan few minutes. The relese/relieve sex brings should be enjoy by both paties. When my wife can go to sleep after love making is the best feeling because she can wake up a much better feeling and relax person.

Communication is very crucial

I can go on and on but the most important factor is to find that the person is whom God has choosen for you and he will be like your brother whom you can never divorce and your sister whom you will reamin with till death do you apart.

If you are already married, you should pray to God to reveal to you both what is the most important thing to one another, for example some wife will know that once their husband work is doing well things are going to be good at home and husband know that once wife can do a particular thing then that is happiness will make a great deal.

May God continue to be with us all.

I think in honesty Isreal007 you are suffereing from attention seeking syndrom.

If Atiku is your role model and you are seeking the release of Al-Mustafa,,we know whom you are , birds of the same feather. you are likely to be anything more than them.

Atiku will gladly meet you anytime as he is out of office now he needs human shield now that his immunity is gone.

If you must meet Al-mustafa, I understood is still a senior resident/landord at Kirikiri, so you are welcome to spend sometime with him there so you can have fun together.

On a more serious note tell us whom you are, why you want Al-Mustafa released and what makes Atiku your role model, then maybe you have a point until then you are a very questionable person.
PoliticsRe: On Al-mustafa by vigasimple(m): 2:20pm On Jun 22, 2007
I think Isreal007 is a relation of Al-mustafa or a beneficiary of his 'abacaha/mustafa' government.

If somebody did something significantly wrong asking for mercy on his behalf makes the person soliciting on their behalf character questionable.

Angel001 is right. Isreal007 must tell us the connection and on what basis he/she is asking for the release of Al-mustafa.

Just a quick reminder to isreal007, the goverment are still looking for some of Abacha/al mustafa's co-conspirators, if he is one he should go and surrender himself before it is too late.

Amnesty are not for people like Al-mustafa. Remember his big brother is still there BAMAYI.

let us all be careful when we are in position of authority to treat people nicely immunity or no immunity. We will account to our fellow human being and ultimately t GOD our creator
PoliticsRe: What Is Mr Ribadu's Current Status As A Government Official? by vigasimple(m): 10:26am On Jun 21, 2007
With greatest of respect to you guys here Ribadu is one of the very few people in Nigeria who is trying honestly to fight corruption.

However, some people and I am sorry to sound cynical with your type of attitude which sometime is the measure of the general attitude which flow from the political stealing class is for the man Ribadu to fail.

Let me tell you the extent they will go is to see or find the man with something to show that he has been compromised.

Poverty, social/economic security and greed are the major problem we have to deal with to succeed with corruption. Also we have to work at our orientation.

If Ribadu fails we are only going to be facing a huge setback in the progress in our fight against corruption. Already these are demoralising peole are watching is demeanour to see that he (Ribadu) is tired. That is what the enemies of progress in Nigeria has been waiting for, looking forward to and praying for. Some people don't even believe we can find anybody like Ribadu in Nigeria. If this guy has been a Yoruba or Ibo man he would have been frustarted long time ago example Mrs. Akinyuli( a very wonderful woman, her own people even want to kill her.

How do we join hand to fight corruption is what we should be talking about and not about the man Ribadu solley as if it his own personal problem whether or not Ribadu is there, the problem need dealing with.

As for Anambra as an example, no one should be surprised, it is the OYO state of the East the place is too voliatile as everybody want to be Senator and Governor, these are the legacies of people like Arthur Nzeribe. Position is what they are looking for NOT service.

I prayed that God in his mercy will find a way to give us solutions to all our challenges in Nigeria.

To everybody keep thinking of practical solutions.

You have the right not to agree with me on all the issue, but the diffrence is clear on both Abacha and OBJ

You are expressing your views freely now, during Abacha regime, you ask anybody they always look over their shoulders when you criticise him.

Secondly, though unacceptable but the Nigeria political class understand a diffrent language.
Like me explain by anology, a lot of married women even ladies in serious relationship will say something like the monies their husband or boyfriend is giving them to maintain the home is small /inadequate or not at all, majority knew their limited resources but they do this just to be seen as saying something, nagging or at worst 'trying to make sure they bleed him so there is no extra to give to another woman or girlfriend'.

The political class always make most noise and demonise whoever is there, they nearly derail handing over from civilian to civilian (first in our country history) because they benefits from disarray. They own or have strong ineterest in the medias and use them effectively for this cause, it is all propaganda and in most cases politics.

Abacha has no intention of going, OBJ even if anybody thinks has no  intention of going or handing over power is gone and no matter the amount of influence cannot be as when he himself is there. Think about it he is no longer the commander in chief, the new commander can give authority to the Army etc

As i said before these two regimes are Night and day completely incomparable except if you are just playing 'politics'

May God continue to show me his mercies and bless our Great Country Nigeria

Dear Thoniaslim,

Although I haven't bother to look into your postings but I am very impressed that you have spent sometime contributing to debates and issues on this site.

You will have educate and learn from others on this site.

Secondly, i take it that you will propbaly be a student or at least a young person who has time to contribute and learn

Only people of doubtful intergrity are the ones that usually abuse or some kind of tribalist and we do have some of them on this site. strangely they are only pushing an agenda that will make them to get to political office.

Now coming back to the issue you have raised. The diffrence between ABACHA and OBJ is as huge as NIGHT and DAY that will never see each other.

First Abacha seize the power as a military dictator, he never account to anyone, whether parliament or the people, he ruled by decree whereas OBJ howver imperfect or bully type OBJ maybe he has the other arms of government checking him, in this case parliament and the judiciary. He cannot carry out things unless in the constitution or change the law unless he goes to parliament. DEMOCRACY IS AND WILL NEVER BE ON PAR WITH DICTATORSHIP.

On the excahnge rate, at the time of Abacha it was artifically perked at 22naira whereas during OBJ it was allowed to float on the open market. what that means the law of demand and supply like anything else govern it.

I will just summarise somethings that will give you a guide.

GOVERNMENT

ABACHA                                                                     OBJ

Militaary dictatorship                                          Elected civilian govt

Did not handover, died in office                          hand over to another elected person

No freedom of the press                                      Freedom of the press

No market economy                                             market economy

Huge national debts                                            paid off Nigerian entire national debts

No reserve/savings in nigeria account                 $45Billion dollars reserve in Nigerai account

Nationalisation of companies                               Privatisation of companies

non removal of oil subsidy                                   removal of oil subsidy

Part of OBJ failures was his inability to fix electricty, unable to fix major infrastruture and did not laid down vision for the future.

OBJ tried through EFCC to deal with corruption unlike Abacha it i just too endemic It was confirmed officially that Abacha took to Britain alone $2.8 bilion (it was officially on record)

I can go on and on, but the truth remains the two are in a diffrent class althogether.

My own candid opinion is that OBJ could have done a lot better, but he simply lack the intellectual capacity and it was a missed opportunity to be the Grand master of the father of the nation, for instance he could have done better with the election, but some of it he was hamppered by Nigeria politics

I hope you do not either believe it or be persuaded that Abacha is better than OBJ, both have left office now and in 100 years from now OBJ will still be better than Abacha

God continue to be with me and protect me and Our Great Country Nigeria
PoliticsRe: Ehindero’s Passport Seized by vigasimple(m): 7:54pm On Jun 18, 2007
To everyone that has contributed to this debate.

With the greatest of respect to you all, one point you all seems to be missing is that Tafa Balogun and Ehindero 'may' have been more greedy than all the rest police officers including the IGP's

Let me tell you what you already know, the Nigerian police force has an inherent culture of bribery and corruption. Appointment is based on returns from the coporal to DPO and to State commander and IGP. so tafa, Ehindero and of no consequence and there were element of tribal issues as we knew that other IGP from other tribes especially from the north are not particularly better.

'He would never sin let him throw the first stone', police is the product of the wider community except that they have duty to be more honest and trustworthy.

But can anything good come from something completely upside down, my honest and humble answer is NO.

Give me just 10 officer that are clean I will give you a new wonderful police service. Infact you might be investigated for corruption if you are clean as the police will doubt whether you are one of them.

When the present IGP leaves office all his pending secrets will be out.

We should stop deceiving ourselves and worry on the current holder of the office and rather worry how to reform the entire police force.

Any my god will suppy all my needs according to his riches in glory by Christ jesus. My God will bless and uphold our great country Nigeria

TO

Xtycod and Docokwy

just for once imagine it happens to be true that Masi olusegun Aremu Igbochukwu Ubasonjo is a descent of an Igbo Igwe,

Tell us whether you will have to bottle now to talk about Ubasonjo the way you have been doing.

A Nigerian is a Nigerian in my own opinion whether or not he/she from North,South West, east or Central

If for a minute the story is true, it confirm a Yoruba adage 'when we throw a stone at the market it may ended up hitting our family'

A word is enough for the wise, all the tribal superdaft people on this site irrespective of your tribe. learn now. it may later traspire that your own family are from the tribe you are attacking and abusing

God continue to look after me and my family and My great Country NIGERIA
PoliticsRe: Yar'adua The Little Messiah by vigasimple(m): 2:20am On Jun 17, 2007
You and I are the messiah's agent and our is to encourage, criticise and advise UMY (yar Adua)on how to lead our great country right.

There is no messiah in any human being. Only God is our messiah.

What God will do is to use someone to guide us and lead us both the deliverance is by ourselves with the help of GOD

if you read the bible, assuming you a Christian, you will notice that all the people God sent to the Isrealites to deliver them are just servant or prophets of God telling the people about GOD vision for the people of Isreal.

When and if they choose not to rebel they will be deliver. Even when Jesus christ came to the world, the people he was suppose to deliver persecute him and hanged him,
Therefore only God is our deliverer, if he has choosen Yar Adua as is servant to deliver his message and for us to listen is another matter.

Therefore Yar adua can choose to be God servant and lead us right and for God to grant us the mercy to follow him and good examples when he his leading us right.

May God continue to shower his blessing upon me and our Great Country Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: How Could This New Administration Prevent Government Officials From Being Corrupt? by vigasimple(m): 2:02am On Jun 17, 2007
The root cause of corruption must be tackled.

You will be surprise to note that insecurity and poverty is the major cause. The other cause on the other end of the scale is greed 'monies for oppression'.

If you notice people who are in politics or power, have 'close constituents'- their area boys, their stelwart etc.

Then there is family and friends social security support.

I don't know much about UMY (yar adua) but I certaintly think that he need to be more stern and address the nation once a month and set out vision and explain time table and on monthly basis show evidence that progress is being made.

At the end of the day, we need a Tribal and religious understanding, tolerance and love.

I for one think majority of the people from the east, the Ibos are bitter for a good reason emanating from Biafra and cannot forgive and move on from there.

As long as things like that persist For them to lead ONE NIGERIA is impossible, then we are simply deceiving ourselves. Quite frankly majority of IBO's and to some extent some Yoruba always clamour for Break up of the country when they are less favoured instead of arguing their position

UMY need to be bold and stop having fear about the 'flaws' in the election or selection that put him in office. He knew Nigeria and especially his PDP aren't perfect but he accepted to lead them and consequently Nigeria.

he should get on with the work constantly reminding himself of what legacy his govt will leave behind in 4-8 years.

Whether or not you like OBJ he has left some good legacy. One, he has handed power once as a military leader, and as a civilian leader and on both ocassion to the other part of the country, he could have been sectional or tribalistic handing over to Yoruba or in this occassion the rightful people the South SOuth or South EAst.

Secondly he had fix mobile phone, the Econmy- the first Nigerian leader if not African that has paid off national debts and therefore gave the country some credibility in the international business world and has financial reserve. that is massive whether or not you like him

His notable and major failure, no Electricity, did not deal sufficietly with corruption or its root cause, did not build infrastrutures and finally has not set a long lasting vision for the future.

ON the whole OBJ has taken Nigeria back from the brinks and should be applauded whilst reminding him and his successor of him(OBJ's) failures.

That is where UMY should start from.

If we stop being too smart the solution to our problems is not technical or too much intellectual but rather common sense. It is rather simple and should be dealt with as such, whether or not UMY has the courage to stand up to his political paymaster is another matter.

What we should prayed to GOD for his to grant our leaders wisdom and abundance of it to lead us right, then corruption will become an endanger species in Nigeria, how and when that will happen is a matter of debate. It will happen and hope in my life time. Human being is always about evolution, some people one day will revolt to things like corruption

May God grant me the strenght, mercy and wisdom to always do the right things and be with our Great country Nigeria.
