Nairaland GeneralRe: How Does Nairaland Recruit Moderators by violent(m): 8:03am On Jan 26, 2012
@OP:

I work very closely with Seun Osewa on recruiting new mods and i must advise that you kindly refrain yourself from heeding to the views that has been sold to you by earlier posters. I have every reason to believe they are likely jealous posters selling false propaganda to stop you from achieving your dreams.

Typically our recruitment for new mods is a long arduous and competitive process where we have to consider thousands of application for each open position, this naturally delays our decision time frame and it is very normal for candidates to feel frustrated at some point, please accept our apologies for this.

As for your application, your initial 2,000 has been received and we are very glad that you've chosen Nairaland to accomplish your dreams!!. . Your application has been processed through the initial stages and has been forwarded for review by the Nairaland board, however, at this final stage, we require that you make full payment by the end of the second week of Feb.

There are just four candidates left for consideration at this point of which you are one. Decisions at this point will be made on a first come, first serve basis.

Asides from the competitive pay and bonus structure that Nairaland offers, we've also concluded plans for our new mods to travel to California within the first three weeks of their employment for a one on one coaching with directors at Google.

Kindly note that the balance for this payment will be received through a different account which will be communicated to you within the next coming days.

Again, thank you for choosing Nairaland.

Signed.

pareto:
When some ugly things happen, you hear some people say 'afterall I pay My Tithe'. Well, follow ur mind. Just take a look around you may be in your office the life of someone who pays tithe regularly and the one who doesn't. Who is better? One who pays tithe isn't it? He is more recognised for better things. May God give you the garce to pay. Anyone who pays will prefer the church and if can give to the church, then you can't pay.
I live in the West.  99.99 percent of the guys that work in my office don't pay tithe and more than a quarter of them earn  basic salaries upwards of 280 thousand pounds.  They have beautiful families and spend their time off work going on holidays.  Many of them have a Christian upbringing and virtually all of them donated huge sums to relief aids in East africa in the summer of 2011.

Is there a reason why you think God blesses these guys while millions who pay tithes in Nigeria continue to live below the poverty line?
Christianity EtcRe: Donate To The Poor And Needy Not Pastors tithe by violent(m): 3:07pm On Jan 25, 2012
Show me a tither and giver that is poor and lacks. You can never find one. Know why? Because by their acts, they justify their faith in the Almighty God, and they prosper.
Really?  you mean people are poor and they lack because they don't pay tithe?. . .sorry to burst your bubble, but i'm a Christian who don't pay tithe simply because i don't believe my Pastor deserves another Jet.  My hungry neighbors will be more than grateful if i gave them 0.2 percent of my earnings and their lives will be better off for it.
Christianity EtcRe: Donate To The Poor And Needy Not Pastors tithe by violent(m): 3:02pm On Jan 25, 2012
The tithe is not for the pastor ,it is given to God. A pastor ought to give his own tithe also because he is a christian.
You mean tithes are transferred to God's account?
Christianity EtcRe: Why Do So Many Nigerians Dislike Rich Pastors? by violent(m): 12:01am On Jan 25, 2012
I definately do not support over-do but the fact that a preacher is rich doesn't make him wrong in anyway. You cannot judge that some of these people do not give to the poor in their own capacity and except they publicize it (T B Joshua for example), you don't get to know.
In their own capacity you say?  what capacity pray tell?  If a pastor buys his fourth jet for 4 billion naira, how much would you say would have been morally right for the Pastor to give to the poor, if there are 3 billion poor people in the world and more than 16000 children die from hunger everyday?

habiolah:
Jesus told the rich man to give everything to the poor doesn't mean the man should take the place of the poor - the Bible says he was materialistic, and that is a problem. But you can be rich without being materialistic. Jesus became poor that we might be made rich you know, and when he says he wishes above all things that we prosper, he didn't exempt his ministers.
Materialism is wrong (and some unfortunately are) but being rich for them is not wrong.
The riches and prosperity that Jesus preached refers to the spirit and not material wealth.  Material wealth are things of the world, things we all lust after, ----> Vanity of Vanities!

Materialism is when you own 4 Jets when you can easily travel on a commercial airline, Warren Buffet the second richest man in the world travels by commercial airlines.

My conviction here is simple:  Neither Jesus nor any of his disciples would buy a fourth Jet when there are families around the world starving to death of hunger, It's simply not Christ like to do so!

stagger:
Then why are you commenting here? Go and meet your fellow paganists and open a thread!

Meanwhile, I am out of here. Tired of saying the same thing to the same dense set of people. Rubbish!
perhaps you are the dense one?

What place exist in heaven for a Pastor that owns 4 Jets and lives a luxury life when record number of children die of hunger across the world on a daily basis?   30 million dollars (apprx 4.5 billion naira cst of Oyedepo's fourth Jet) will put smiles on the faces of millions of families and bring hope to millions of kids worldwide, but guess what?  Our daddy GO has chosen to spend for his comfort in the place of all these. . . .and you morons will attempt to convince the rest of us "It is the Lord's blessings and it's truly marvelous in our sight"

I wonder if you all skipped the bible verse where the Lord Jesus advised a rich man to sell all his possessions and give the proceeds to the poor.

Show me a man who spends all resources gathered from the house of God in feeding these ones, and i'd show you a Christ like fellow whose heart is truly golden!

4. You talked about Oil and Gas jobs as if it was that easy.  I don't like talking about my background and ordeals. Sometimes you have to live with the fact that if you were not born with a silver spoon, life's gonna be a long tedious walk you must be willing to start. You know it's really frustrating when you are not one of the Fortunate Few (FF). I'm not here to be pitied or consoled about the problems I've faced in life. I'll heartily take responsibility for anything that has happened or will happen to me in this life time.
"I CAN ACT LIKE A MAN".    We all need somebody to lean on,
You need some gravel in your guts and some spit in your eye, life's not a walk in the park son, everyone pays their dues,  . .

What you do with your life is entirely your responsibility, combing forums for "self made" mentors will not lead you anywhere, more often than not, you're likely to end up meeting people who will lead you to making wrong choices.

Having finished with school, your focus at this point should be to think of realistic ways of making a living.  No one is going to teach you this, you just have to identify what it is you are capable of and how much can be achieved with the resources available to you,  . .that, son, is the most basic law of the Jungle!

Those you mentioned were born with silver spoons had parents or grandparents who were brave enough to do whatever it took them to survive.
If you want your kids/grandkids to have those spoons in their mouths at birth,  then you must be bold enough to think differently, brave enough to go after your dreams, and prove yourself talented enough to achieve those things you've always wanted to achieve.

What a joke, you might say. These same foreign elements are the same who have sold outdated equipment to the government and are going around Abuja installing CCTV and bomb detection equipment around the capitol, technology decades old.

Huge sums of money have changed hands for second rate equipment

The government pays for a Rolls Royce car but gets a VW Beetle instead!!

Why is there so much fear and apprehension among Nigerians that the government can no longer protect its citizens?

The answers to these questions lies within the presidency itself because of the acts of these individuals in the last few weeks.

There are no real interests to control the activities of Boko Haram because of the vested interests of certain foreign governments in collusion with their agents in the present administration and the country.

To some in government, this is another tool to control certain individuals.

anyway. Kill a few “Nigerians,”  and make it look like Christianity against Islam,Islam against Christianity to provoke a reaction from Nigerians.then we make big cash importing faced out security equipment to them , least when the country divide, we take full control of the citizen ,the government, their oil , and their finance

If you get no reaction, kill a few more or go after prime targets to grab headlines.

Again, you may ask yourself, who stands to gain when there are terror scares in the country? the government that pull the funds , and the international hypocrites that does the supplies

It is always disheartening to read some comments on NL especially when issues related to terrorism and islam are discussed. one "truthteller" arrogantly posited that all terrorists are muslims! that cannot be farther from the truth.

In the US alone, there are many terrorist organizations like Jewish Defense League, Army of God, even the KKK. The Uk has the IRA (Irish republican Army) and others.

It is wrong for us to make assertions that cannot be backed by facts simply because we are opposed to (and rightly so) what some selfish groups or individuals are doing in the name of religion.

i am a muslim and Islam does not condone terrorism.
and when was the last time you heard that someone was shot by at least one of these groups?
CareerRe: A Career With International Charities? by violent(m): 9:11pm On Jan 19, 2012
I believe given your educational background, it's probably a good idea to consider building experience by joining a local human rights group with international links.  This way, you can build on your network and experience that will eventually prove relevant to future career.

On the other hand, if your main interest is in the line of development, then you may need to gain exposure to this field through a postgraduate degree/diploma in international development courses or social science courses.  A course in Agric development or economics will be mostly favoured,  Learning a foreign language will also be quite useful as well as demonstrating love for travel.

I know companies like prosperity initiative (http://prosperityinitiative.org/) love to hire people with Agric development/social sciences background for development roles.

Recently, i started developing interest in Risk Mgt. My area of interest is Financial Risk Mgt. I actually have not done anything relating to Risk Mgt in practical terms aside textbook and google knowledge.

I would be glad if you could give a hint on the following;

1. how challenging is Risk Mgt or in my case, financial risk mgt?

2. what respect/recognition do they enjoy in an organisation?

3.how can one become a risk manager?

4. what is the pay(salary) for risk mgt professionals like?

5. what is the dividing line among risk mgt, business control system and insurance? I know google can help here but let me hear from a practitioner.

Thanks
I could help with some of these

1)Being a risk manager is not very challanging once you have a good quantitative background.

2) Not very much to be honest. While risk management may become a greater focus at most firms which may obviously lead to upward hiring trend in this sector within the near future, in the long term risk management is not a business-building, revenue generating, profit growing role.  As a risk manager, you are not bringing the profits through good trades and investment, and anyone familiar with business 101 will know that you are instinctively measured by how much you contribute to the bottom line.

3) Having a quants background and studying up on risk management is generally enough for the knowledge you may need. For financial risk management, a good knowledge of probability curves will be a good way to start, but like in every other career, a sound experience has no substitute.  You may also consider taking up the Financial risk management or Professional risk management designation.  Both of them are structurally the same except that the latter may be more advisable if at some point you'd like to consider a career outside of finance for oil and gas.
If you'd like to stick to finance, you are likely better off working in contrcat jobs than a full time job. The guy doing the risk consulting for my office takes home close to 900 pounds a day on a 12months contract job.

4) In finance in the UK, entry level pay will normally be between 25k to 30k.  Mid level to senior level pay will normally be in the 80k to 100k category. You will not likely get a mouth watering jumbo bonus, and the exit opportunities aren't very rewarding.

5)  Usually, these functions are merged in most teams.  The risk management specialist set acceptable limits and the insurance specialist ensures that the company is well protected in the event of severe loss.  There's usually a compliance team on the side to ensure that all teams abide by set regulations.
