BouharryArtikou: YES. YES again.
Corruption in Nigeria ensured I didn’t get the best education I deserved.
Corruption in Nigeria meant I couldn’t get the job I am qualified for.
Corruption in Nigeria meant I couldn’t get the scholarship Eventhough I was the best.
Corruption in Nigeria meant the son of someone who knew someone who was connected to someone from the ‘right’ religion and the ‘right’ ethnic group was given the scholarship instead of me.
Corruption in Nigeria meant that Buhari was going to land in london today for treatment.
Yes. I ran away from nigeria because of the corruption. You’ve won this debate with all these points you raised. I give it up. |

Trust me, this whole thread, this ENTIRE Nairaland thread about Life in the UK wouldn’t exist. Some, nay, ALL of us on this thread would have been in in the less corrupt one - Nigeria. Was it as a result of corruption that made you decide to migrate from Nigeria to Uk ? |

foxyvisa: To answer your first question, no i am not giving myself BP. I explained its because of school admissions timing. 2nd, your maths is correct but July 2023 visa expiration translates to me living in the UK for 5 years 7 months. Gov.uk it states, You must complete 5 years of continuous residence in the UK. Which for me ends 30th December 2022. Like you said, when it's time I will go ahead and apply, hopefully the 5 years calculation is accepted, fingers crossed Ok I get your point now… everyday we learn new things. All the best with your application. |

foxyvisa: Good day house. Its being quiet in house for weeks. Please I need clarity on my 5 years indefinite leave to remain (ilr) calculation. I am on the 5 years route. My BRP first issue was 11th December 2017 (11/12/2017). Arrived UK 30/12/2017. I have been given extension and it expires 21/7/2023. With this calculation, (date of first issue to expiry) its 5 years 7 months. In order to qualify for 5years ilr application, should I wait till my BRP expires 21/7/2023 (which will be 5 years 7 months)? Or can I calculate exactly 5 years from date of issue 11/12/2017, which will be 11/12/2022 and apply? To summarise my date of first issue to expiry is 5years 7months but I want to apply exactly 5years from first issue (due to school admissions timing). Please I need the house opinions, must I wait till brp expires (28 day rule considered) or simply calculate 5 years from first brp issue. Thanks. If I understand you clearly, you saying your FLR will expire on 21/7/23. If this is the case why would you want to give yourself high BP by applying for indefinite far before the expiration of your current visa ?. Where are you rushing to?. It is stated clearly 28 days before expiration for a reason. If my maths is still correct 28days should be around ending of July 2023 (say 23-25)….If you are too eager you can attempt to apply and tell us the outcome….. |

Please Let’s all be guided. Don’t drink and drive in the UK I went out last night to London to meet up with old work colleagues and friends at Regents Park. One of my friends who also happens to be an engineer like myself secured a job few months back that pays him over £75k + £15k bonus and a 2021 plate BMW. He was asking me to leave my company and look for more money. I said baba I’m comfortable at my job and I’m trying to stay and I’ve not thought of moving elsewhere yet. After listening to him rant about his recent achievements I almost felt I was doing bad in my career. I was surprised he drove this new car into Central London. Anyways I left regent park at 09:00 pm to catch my train back home. Only for me to wake up this morning with the news that my friend was involved in an accident and his new car has been written off. He was also arrested last night as it appears the accident was very serious. I called his phone this morning m and the a police lady pick up the call and said he will give me a ring later. My guy needs his driving license for his job, which means he has lost the job. he was driving under the influence of alcohol and weed. He might go to jail depending on police evidence.. The moral of the story remains please avoid the temptation of drinking even if na 1 bottle and driving. Also don’t let no another person achievements make you feel less about yourself…. Let me go and look for my friend |

One of the bosses there took I and some other black people (Nigerians) to be precise. Gave us the dirtiest hardest job ever, we worked and didn't go for the second break. We were tired, we murmured amongst ourselves that we were tired, I told them when I see the boss I'd ask him to let us have our break, when the boss came, I asked him, instead of these Nigerians to back me up, they kept mute and I thought to myself, if this guy gets mad and decides to fire, he could fire me easily without problem and probably paint me thr bad guy, but the many Nigerians never talked they kept mute.

I’ll be making a trip soon, in case you want to instruct those anarchists and arsonists to lay in waiting. My state is relatively safe and peaceful, we do not burn government institutions and security outfits where I come from. We believe in the power of the ballot, and we are always patient until the next election cycle to elect or change our leaders. We do not call for arms or insurrection when things are not going our way politically. Nor do we threaten secession through killing and destroying. We wait, change, and change the change when necessary. That is the beauty of democracy. City boy Keep deceiving yourself..... |

I wasn’t comparing, I only set the records straight about the “Jonathan was betrayed” part of your post. He wasn’t betrayed, he only reaped what he sowed when he betrayed those that helped him into power. You didn’t set any record straight. If anything you’ve broken the record On a serious note my man. Can you tell us which President that wasn’t helped into power ? Obj was helped , ya Adua was helped , Jonathan was helped and even Buhari was helped into power. That’s how politics works. You have to befriend everybody so as to win an election and after election you kiss them goodbye. We can deceive others but we can’t deceive ourselves. |

I’m not a politician (Pdp or apc or whatever). But I can confidently say Nigeria was safer pre-2015 than now. The likes of Buhari and his cronies orchestrated bokoharam to frustrate Jonathan and now the same bokoharam has boiled out of control. Even as at that have you seen where any member of this government condemn the atrocities of bandits/ killer herdsmen or bokoharam?... Did you hear where they condemned the shooting at lekki toll gate ? Instead they were busy putting up propaganda here and there. And yet you’ll come here and be saying “you were betrayed by Jonathan” Can you even visit your village without thinking about your security? |

icon8: No one betrayed Jonathan. If anything, he was the one that betrayed those that rallied around him when Yar’Adua died and subsequently gave him the ticket for another term to complete their tenure (Yar’Adua/Jonathan’s second term). Legend has it that he promised he would not be seeking another term for himself and he would allow power to return to the North in 2015. However, he reneged on that agreement, claiming there was nothing like zoning in Nigeria’s constitution. That was what made a lot of prominent people to turn their backs on him, including Obasanjo, Kwankwanso, Saraki, Wamako, Amaechi, and their nPDP co-travellers, but he arrogantly claimed they all had no electoral value and he could win without them. That was how we ended up with Buhari, who had thrice contested without success. His final emergence was more of a payback (protest vote) against Jonathan, not a betrayal as you’d want us to believe.
PS: I’m not a Buhari supporter (not anymore) but I was one of those that felt betrayed by Jonathan (who we massively supported against Turai and the cabals in 2010-2011) and I believe that actions must have consequences. Jonathan was no saint, let’s not start reminding ourselves of all the atrocities he committed by himself or through proxy. I don’t know where u read the bolder from but anyways I’ll rather have corrupt Jonathan, than deadbeat Buhari .... If you actually read my statement, you would have seen where I stated that “they are all corrupt”... Don’t even try to compare Jonathan’s administration to Buharis because you’ll loose this debate.. Buhari has once been a failure when he was a commander in chief and he has been repeating this backwardness since 2015 and yet you talking about Jonathan.... I’m waiting for you to outline the failures of Jonathan that outweighs buharis failure. You can’t even compare ObJ 8yrs to Jonathan’s 6yrs ... |
