For the fellow who asked the question

If you get  SKYE BANK you will be smiling but i doubt if you go get am o. For a very long time its been on net bid even though its still on TS and i think someone said that the brokers are actually crossing @ around N20 or so don't know about that shanot that i'm complaining

G Cappa if you can get it but i think  there are liquidity issues here. For the past 2 months its been trading in singe digits the highest number of trades has been 5 and the volumes involved less than 10K except yesterday when it did 61K and its only dropped the price once in the last 2 months looks like the sellers/buyers are trying very hard to push up the price steadily.Bottom-line i wouldnt hold out my candles for this one!

Thomas Wyatt   Hmnnnn don't know anything about that one
Illiquidity is one of the things responsible for the upward movement of those penny stocks. Check out Transexpress, Wire and Cable, Chellarams etc. Look at even Cappa and Dalberto and Julius Berger. Illiquid but SOUND stocks are not bad. It is illiquid stocks with no fundamentals that are terrible.

Thomas Wyatt is set fro a turn around. Core investor came in last year. Rights issue done in December. So they are set for good things.

If I wnat to worsen matter, you may check WTN!!!!

Wanajo,

Good morning, please what do you think of okomuoil and UTC, i bought Oceanic last year (PO), is there any reason to keep it for a while or should i sell and put the money into other CICO stocks.

Thanks
Okomu, you need to be a weather forecaster to deal with that one.

Not excited about UTC. Not a stock that I would love to keep in my portfolio.

Don't expect movement in Oceanic till April/May. However, if you have a 12 months horizon, UBA and Oceanic are good candidates. You may however wait till May before picking them up.

NB: I am not a CICO person so may be biased in my suggestion/comment.

Good morning to you all, please can I have your saying in this my decision?
I just withdraw my purchasing order for BIG TREAT this morning and I want to put the money back into any of these companies;
NIWICABLE, NASCON, BERGER PAINT and or increase my stake at UNIC INS.

So which of this stock should I unleash my dragon on  huh Caveat Emptor seriously observed  grin grin
Not a crime to keep your money!!!! Not compulsory that you must buy.

Right now, will not go near any of those stocks.

If you however get an Agbero broker, realm one for that matter, take a look at

G Cappa
Thomas Wyatt
Skye Bank

If you get them TODAY or TOMORROW, you will be smilling soon.

@wanajo,
so what say yeah on daar, u say no right.
We are different people with different objective and investment profile.

For me DAAR does not fit into my investment plan. That does not mean that it is not good for you. It also does not mean that you will not make money from it. However, for someone like me, buying DAAR will take more than a miracle.

@all the gurus
I got the Daar communications public offer form and their dividend forecast are as follows:
2008-31 kobo
2009-38 kobo
2010-50kobo

From that, i think it might be good considering that dangote paid 35kobo on an 18 naira stock

Plus i saw two different offers for Daar communications and Daar invetsments and holding

What does that mean?
Not interested in the DAAR offer.

Now you have the IPO and the offer for sale. From the IPO the company is raising money for expansion/pay off debts. From the offer for sale, Dokpesi is making money for himself!!! Just like Dangote sold some of his shares in the Sugar refinery and the flour company.

Did you exit WAPCo or are you holding on? Rumours of a PO in the offing. So they may jerk up the price for that.

Don't know the figures of LASSACO. But it is already stated many times that figures as pere insurance companies are shrouded in secrecy!!!!! When the figures comes out, the prices will adjust accordingly. Do your due dilligence before placing an order. If you are doing a CICO, be assured that you can handle the associated eventualities.

The speculation is that Mbenefit was hit with a huge claim in that quarter which is why I said if this trend is halted, the full year results may exceed expectation.
It is because of this that insurance companies have one of the lowest dividend payouts because they need to have huge reserves to handle claims.

Learnt GTA was dumping the insurance stocks and that was responsible for the RED this past few days!!! Apparently, the insurance were fidling with the prices.

invisible!:
@pumping, this 'big claim' fear is even more reason why I want to reduce my presence in the insurance sector.

Anyways, I will offer to insure the insurance companies against any sudden 'big claims'.

I hail una OOOO.

With the bears showing face, the men will be separated from the boys.

For those asking after Presco, the fundamentals is good. However, you need to be a weather forecaster to roll with that one. That said, I expect the 2007 full year result to be better than the 2006 result. That is not saying much though.

On insurance, except you entered early, be warned. UNIC did a PO in 2006 @ 1.10 and was undersubscribed. What have they done now to justify a price of 5.50 (now UNIC is one of the best outh there). NEM did a righst @ 0.55 which was supposedly 100% subscribed (well so many mago mago with that). AFter thet it wnet into merger arrangement with Vigilante and Lombard. No news about the subscription level. Now how did the price went up to 5.00huh What have they done. What they are using is the scarcity of the shares (very few shareholders) to pump up the price. same thing happening to the Vono's, Afroil, Capital Oil etc of this world.

Many people are becoming silent readers as there is no price to pay for only reading!!

I mistakenly became the owner of some Universal Insurance shares. The money used was borrowed money at 18% interest rate. I entered @ N0.95. As at yesterday the price was N3.93. Loan payback (principal + interest) is not due until August. My question is at what price should I sellhuh I am thinking of selling at 4.00!!! Universal is not my type of company!!!! Shell put money for IAA
Shell as a company did not put a single dime in IAA. Trust me on that.

However some people in Shell via a venture capital arrangement put money in Universal, IAA and Consolidated Hallmark. And believe me, they are in for the short term. So expect serious offloading!!!!!!! Close to N3bn was staked in Universal and IAA

One more lesson, is that the shorter the time frame for investing, the easier it is to make a loss!!!

Bode really is what I will call an ultimate investor where Nigeria is concerned and even beyond.

GTI capital is one of his finance companies. He is also heavily into venture capitalism and likes to take equitable positions in companies he finances too.

Nigerian ropes is to serve his companies and in the past some of the AGM's have taken place in his Parkview home.

Wanaj0 I would be grateful if you could offer opinion on the rubbsih pp's floating around for the benefit of those who are either new to investing or new to pp's. I do not think people grasp it is a mine field but rather see it as a money trippler. I am tired o.

Seems IAA will be listed around the 15th. I hope. I will let it go by the time I see 50%. I think it will do a recontruction later. I went in, in December and this morning I got a call saying it is still on for N3.60 for a N2 share. Shocking! Shell bought up quite a substantial size of the offer and I do not see them bailing out early so I presume the stock will maintain its value.
None of those PP's is interesting to me!!!! But to everyone his own.

Shell did not buy into IAA. The story is plenty. Over N3bn was staked in that venture but not by SHELL. N3.60 is a bit high. Got mine at N2.60 less than three weeks ago. Expect a 4 for 1 split!!!!

Since I was a little girl - that compnay dey always fascinate me - I always wonder what they do there. Everytime I drive round that place I wonder where on earth is their entrance, but you can see them from the bridge.

I think say na dead company ooooo
Maybe dead before but now much alive!!!

They are the beautiful bride of the oil industry now. Quite professional also. They are into engineering, fabrication and maitenance services. With all the oil field development, expect them to be in a possition to benefit tremendously.

@ Wanajo
What you said about Dorman is spot on. They know their onions, are expanding wisely and are well capitalised.

Who mentioned nigerian ropes?

Funnily enough it is a good support company. It shouldn't have been listed really because the owners do not part with their shares. Ropes is owned by the amiable Sen Bode Olajumoke who also has a great stake in Grimaldi which dominates the shipping waters, also had a port concessioned to him by Shege, owns ro-ro oceanic and other similar companies. The man is a mega player in the Nigerian shipping industry and ropes is one of his support companies.
I throw way salute OO!!!

Dorman Long still have a LONG way to go but they are well positioned to reap from the local content policy especially in the oil industry. They and Nigerdock are two companies well favoured to benefit. Do you have any news about the Nigerdock offer for salehuh?

Bode Olajumoke na mega investor. Can't count the number of 'small' companies that the man used as investment vehicles. let me just say the man is loaded! There are rumours however that he is fronting for some military bigwigs. I think he was a one time permanent secretary in the defence ministry.

Nigerian Ropes na good company!!! never knew how much market they have. Not sure of their profitability though.

Why people dey panichuh The BEARS are not yet around!!!!!!! At least OandO is still doing the daily 5%

A sound stock even if it takes a beating will still recover. Check WAPCo.

Well, 2007 experience is being played out again. By end Q2/Q3 things will change. For those that can wait for 18months. Check the banks. That's where the harvest will be.

On the Dec end date for the banks, it will separate the wheat from the chaff. Banks that usually get placement to bost balance sheet at end year cannot do so again! All will have the same end year!!!!

@Yodi

On a more serious note,I don't see anything wrong with the "beating" of insurance stocks as you put it.The price plunges are just due to people selling in anticipationnof TS as most insurance firms are figuring to come to the market to raise fresh funds,so it's only CICO investors that may worry as me I will sell @ nothing less than 15 naira. At least I applied the same principle to Tripple G(which I bought @ 5.65,watched it plunge and stay down for sometime and is now aiming for the stars)which closed @ 18.89 today
How many people can watch their stocks plungedhuh? When people talk about collecting loan for two months, using school fees to do CICO you know that something is just not right!!!

People tend to forget that prices tend to go up nad down in the short term. With the best of analysis no one can TIME the market. Hence people should factor that into their calculations and tailor it to meet their risk profile.

As per Japual, I don't own any. Not really fascinated with the business they are in. Yes marine services is lucrative but not under the current crisis in the Ndelta. Pyrates have taken over the bonny river. Activity level is low. So when you remove the hype, where will the money come from.

Ja Paul is a good company but not well favoured. If you are looking for a well positioned company to buy, look for Dorman Long. It is an engineering company. Not yet listed but they are set for great things especially with the local content policy.

SEC has released Japual's PO/rights allotment including supplemental. Read below

http://www.sec.gov.ng/allotmentposition.htm

Even if Japaul beats the FY 2007 PAT forecast by 50%, you are looking at a stock with a 2007 FY PE of 70! I warned about it a few weeks ago and someone dey take style yab me when the thing appreciate.

My advice? Take your lesson the hard way; never CICO an overpriced stock! Get out because I don't see Japaul being worth more than N8 (but then what do I know huh)

Japual never loose too much blood na?? na rumour and market sentiments dey fuel the price increase.

I hope it wasnt N14 you bought it sha shocked

If nothing has chnaged continue to HOLD on. However, if the underlying assumptions has changed and I AM IN YOUR POSITION, I will sell, cut my losses and move on!

agreed ETI is good company. it's been on my radar for a while. i've been waiting (seems forever) to hit N200, but e no gree. i suspect the recent rise in its share price is due to short-termers speculating on a good end-of-year result (which no doubt should be good). i plan to enter after they have sold. i concede that i might have to wait forever to hit N200 sad.
The rumoured IPO really affected the price. A lot of uncertainty. Listing on three exchanges is also not helping. Not all of them can go the NAIJA way.

RoughCut:
I may be wrong but from what i have been able to cobble together the Tourist Company of Nigeria TCN used to own Federal Palace Hotels in VI until 1992 when TCN was sold to Ikeja Hotels Plc and now Federal Palace Hotels is one of the jewels in Ikeja Hotels crown. Ikeja hotels now owns 31% of TCN which i assume is the same company you are referring to.

Infact part of the proceeds from Ikeja Hotels PLc PO in '06 will be used to pay for their  51% stake in Abuja Sheraton Hotels + Towers.

I can't understand why Abuja Sheraton is profitable while NICON-NOGA also in Abuja is a loss-making albatross for Transcorp huh huh huh huh huh huh
You are on the right track. So which of the hotels in the stable of Ikeja Hotels is profitablehuh? There is something that is just not clear in the TCN and Ikeja Hotels relationship. Ikeja Hotels and TCN are both owned by the Ibrus.
