yodiyokun: Look at the people buying First Aluminium,
Except that company releases a cokastic result, yawa go gas.
If you are in, and you entered at 4naira and above exit now while the going is sweet. The result may not be all that ooo.
Every body knows that FA is a CICO stock, I remember @Wanaj0 prohesied on this stock last year on stockmarketnigeria.com and it came to pas,
Sell now, while you have buyers except there is hot cake news - we are missing.
Abi dangote don buy am?
Or are they coming to the market? Which kind prophecy be that ? FAN is a good company affected by the challenging environment. Patience is paying off for those that bought at a high price last year. loma: SCOA Nigeria Plc
SCOA which is a company listed on the Nigerian stock exchange in the conglomerate sector did not perform very well last year, this can be seen from the just released results as its turnover decreased by 49.8 percent from N3.7 billion in 2006 to N1.8 billion in 2007.Its profit before tax was also down by 195.5 percent as it decreased from N860 million in 2006 to N821 million in 2007. The company recorded a loss in its profit after tax as it dropped from N867 million in 2006 to N705 million in 2007 signifying 181.4 percent change. The company closed at N5.29 at the end of trading on the 5th of february 2008.
With this result, why are people still buying SCOA? Sorry you are reading the SCOA result wrongly!!!!! Yes there was a decrease in turnover but the company moved from a loss poistion to a profit positing. Profit actually grew by over 200%!!!! For the first time in ages, SCOA is paying a dividend of 10k. The recent movement in the price is because of the turn around that led to this fantastic result. The question is whether it is suatinable. For all you know, the profit may be due to the sale of assets (Extra ordinary income). Releasing 2006 result in 2008 does not go well with me so while there is money to be made, I always allow such stock to PASS. nypurr: You want to factor this in also:
http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/enterprise/2008/feb/09/enterprise-09-02-2008-001.htm That article is all noise and little substance as far as Universal Insurance is concerned. After the N9m profit no figure was mentioned again. With 16bn oustanding shares, they will need a profit of N1.6bn to have an EPS of 10k. With the price close to 2.00, that is already a PE of 20.00!!! Tell me which insurance company is close to maing N1bn profit yet? For all you know those jokers will go for a PO maybe that will take them to 20bn shares!!!! Shine your eye. I expect the price of this one to drop below the listing price FAST!!!! Look at the number of deals done on the first day. Things are fishy!!! |

eniyanman: especially those who have taken leverage at 30% interest!! . Time will always teach that prices go up as well as down. I am beginning to see the NSE as the new Nospecto. Trees don't always grow to the sky. My advice to all is do CICO only if you are prepared to go long-term if the tide turns. Now I understand your concern. The bolded portion is key. Tides do change and you've got to be prepared for it!!!!!! |

yodiyokun: However, I think @Wanaj0 has a point about the corporate governance in Insurance Sector.
No one knows for sure what they are hiding or sitting on - there is no serious monitoring or compliance body. We can't feel the effect of NAICOM or wetin be the name again
Because of this, we have to tread carefully.
However, if Zenith, GTB and Co will list their assurance companies - then they may be worth investing in.
As per CICO issues - one has to be smart about it and not be greedy, sell when there are buyers and give a good allowance in your limt.
Always set a reasonable exit point and obey it.
Some of us bought diamond since 3 months now -- we are still waiting for it to hit 25%, not in a hurry and I wont sell till it reaches that - except I get a better opportunity cost. I don't expect the banks to list their insurance subsidiaries. No reason to go that route. Well, you can wait on your Diamond because you've got options and you know that prices do go up and down. You also know that patience is key. Now, some are planning to use thir school fees or house keeping money. Imagine if it was a loan @ 25% interest rate and another 4% - 5% commission. What will you do? People just need to UNDERSTAND and don't just get carried away that they will make 20% every week 52 times in year 2008 doing CICO. |

Your comment above is apt. It is happening to me right now with my purchase mandate. I have had this order place since Wed last week. Unfortunately, it has not been done. My luck is that the price has fallen a bit and is still wothin my range.
These brokers are going to be a stumbling block for some of us who prefer to go short term. If it is a BUY order it is still better, na SELL order worse pass. imagine giving a SELL order and watching your portfolio drop 5% everyday without the execution. People forget that some of the brokerage firms also BUY and they will give preference for their own orders. Also, you have the institutional/preferred investors whose orders always have priority. So befriend your broker (not the marketter OOO). No the guy that deals or go to the floor. |

eniyanman: @wanaj0 one thing i think you fail to realise is that long-term investing works at the bottom of a bear market not at the top of a bull market (which you seem to agree we are in now). so it is best to sit out now rather than make a paper loss which would reverse over time. this is the time for cico. mind you, i've held all my intercontinental shares from ipo @ N5 and FBN @ N6, so i am intrinsically long-term but short-term trading cannot be discounted now.
ps, feel free not to comment. Never said anything against trading. Just highlighting areas for people to consider. Whether BULL or BEAR markets, fundamentally sound stocks still stay. I sell stocks once I consider them over valued. If a stock gets over valued within two weeks of purchase so be it!!!!!! Sold my Intercontinetal because I consider it over valued. Sold BOC because I consider it over valued. Did not however enter believing that I will make 50% in two or three weeks. Of course there are a lot of people who trade and understand the associated risks. Such people have edged their risk the way their portfolio is structured. Most people ignore this when they ask for BUY and SELL recommendations. There are people that if they miss it in the process of CICO, they will sit it out. Some are holding Diamond now for close to 4 months!!! However there are others (those are the people that I am more concerned about) who only think that stock prices ONLY go UP!!!!! Now those people are the ones that I worry about!!! |

flakyy: Guys, this is to bring to your notice the aggression with which the banks are attacking insurance business. Gtassurance is leveraging on the over 100 branches of GTB to push insurance products to their retail and corporate customers. The strenght of this is that this customers already have relationship with the banks and are likely to prefer a onestop shop for their financial products including insurance. Oceanic is doing same.
The branche networks this insurance companies are trying to build are already in place with the banks. The understanding of customer service is more entrenched in the banking sector than in Insurance companies who are just retraining their staff.
The one that underscores it for me is the knowledge as a result of working in the GTB years ago the stenght of the groups that interface with the oil and gas industry. Knowing the oil and gas industry, the local content business that we expect will cause earnings to catch up with share prices might not necessarily be there as the banks have too much money from their recent offers strenghtening their capacity to under-right big ticket insurance transactions.
As a result i think that positions in insurance should be short-term rather than longterm. UNIC insurance may have realised this hence their decision to not raise money now for any branch expansion but focus on growing the health insurance thing.
Any thoughts on this. Banks with insurance subsidiaries have an advantage but not that big an advantage. Some insurance companies can be as big as some banks. Check out Leadway for example. Same with Nicon. As per oil industry and the local content policy, good idea. However, it does not translates to profit. They are underwriting risk. If any of the risk materialises they hav eto pay up BIG time. taht's why they shy away from it. With all the capitalisation, I don't see the insurance industry cornering more than 10% to 20% of the oil and gas market. It will still be out sourced. Even the so called Pension etc, it is peoples money being invested. Most of the investment is on the NSE. More money chasing fewer stocks. Soon reason will reign and either the funds go elsewhere or their will be new instruments to invest in. While opportunities exist in the insurance sector, unlike banks, they shoulder BIG risks. That's why the dividend yield for insurance companies are very low. One other problem with insurance companies is the issue of corporate gorvernance. The way the consolidation exercise went just shows how terrible that sector is in terms of regulation and corporate governance. Anyone saw any merger document for all the mergers being consumated For those just entering, thread with care. By the time the FULL figures are out, there will be a lot of surprises. |

Many are witnessing the resurgence of Trancorp, Cadbury etc Many things are responsible. One ting however is clear, that stock of a good company, with good management even if it takes a beating will surely trend upwards with patience. Only get disillusioned with companies whose management is bereft of ideas, not prepared for competition and old fashioned. Most other companies will tend to do well on the long run.
Of course, you can sell and cut short your losses and reenter again. The truth however is that you will NEVER know the lowest and the highest price of a stock irrespective of your analysis. It's being proving world wide that you cannot TIME the market. For as long as you try to do that, you will not maximise your profit!!!
happy investing. |

Well, well well, the elephant don break the barrier as expected. That na just introduction. Anyone willing to hold on to FBN for 18months is made.
BOC as expected has lost steam. Chellarams still dey move. Same for UNTL the last man standing in the textile sector.
Though I don't like Tony, UBA is a good one to go after now. One of the fairly priced stock out there.
Kajola investmnet is doing a PP. Saw the abridged prospectus today. May ask the MD to come and share the vision of the company with myself and a couple of guys. Nothing spectacular from what I saw. can't trust the prospectus because the figures look strange.
On Universal insurance, well I saw the PP document and was not impressed at all. It was done @ N0.95. I heard on posted it here on Friday on the plan for listing @ N1.85. It closed today @ N1.94. With the volume and quantity traded on the first day it is a sign that somethings don't add up. I will advice all to threak carefully. Got some 2m units (not in my name though), but will be sold at the first opportunity. For me, it is a WHACK company.
Prices are moving towards an unsuatainable level. Expect a correction soon. Same thing happened last year. When teh correction came, there was weeping and gnashing of teeth. So thread carefully. Same way people are making money, some are also losing money.
People are talking about WAPCo bonus. Well last year I heard the same thing. People bought @ 80.00 expecting a bonus only to see a paltry N1.00 dividend and that sent the price crashing to the N60.00 - N65.00 range. Thread with care.
For those doing CICO get to understand that it is not always that your ORDERS get executed. Factor such delays from your brokers into your plans so that you don't get your fingers burnt. Most often, they don't get to BUY until the price is beyong tolerance limit. Same way they don't get to SELL until it is way too cheap!!!
In the same vein, most people relate with cutomer relations staff (marketers) and they assume that they are dealing with the DEALERS. For every brokerage house you use, try to 'meet' those that go to the floor!!! They are key to your success in this business.
Enjoy your money making venture!!! |

dollyp1cute: I read that report jo and concluded it was just analysis paralysis, one of the price mentioned as entry point was even N22, I do hope somebody believes that and sell so I can load up even more.
When companies of no fixed address /production are blowing steam ahead how will Oceanic drop to N22. It's past performance is worthy of mention and I can see them breaking every breakable record come April.
P.S I know stock market goes up and down but if Oceanic goes to N22 even the great elephant must land on N33 shikena Na so man pickin see am. If Oceanic goes to 22.00 then there must have being a monumental problem in the financial sector. Will see those waiting for Oceanic to get to 22.00 to buy pumping777: One interesting thing is this N50 bar that has been erected in the banking sector. This is a very strong bar that has not been broken or scaled.
As predicted, Zenith has been hit by the same bar. As we all know, UBA has long been struggling under this bar.
Now the elephant is a whisker away from the bar. Can the elephant destroy this bar once and for all?? He for good o.
We no need yeye bar for NSE. This no be Olympics na The bar dey bar progress to the banks The bar is not made for the elephant. See that bar being removed very quickly. |

Universal Insurance will be listed on the 11th of February (Monday). The PP was done @ 95k aktopgun: quite correct. trens need at least 3 days to form and usually longer really. take oceanic for example, it looks like a trend is forming but confirmation will only come with time, ie hind sight, by which time all the money is already made for those in already. i still expect it to continue to do well with little blips here and there. That's a major issue. Read a technical analysis that talk about Oceanic going down. See what is happening now. Right now, I see UBA and Zenith plus Diamond as stocks to take a look at especially for the LONG term. |

Mr. Risky: Rising price of gas fires BOC Gas stock by 360 percent 06 February, 2008 12:00:00 GODFREY OBIOMA Font size: Investors who bought the share of BOC Gas and held on to it for one year have reaped 360 percent in capital appreciation as the stock traded N18.59 February 4, up from N4.05 per share February 8, 2007.
This follows the rise in the price of coking and industrial gas which are part of the company's products . The 12kg cylinder gas which was priced at about N2,000 in the past currently sells at N7.00. In 10 months ending March 4, 2008. the stock gained 92.39 percent with the price rising from N4.05 February 8, to N7.80 November 2, 2007. Although the association of gas manufacturers recently agreed to bring down the price to N2,500, the price of the stock has remained upbeat. In three months, it appreciated by 138.3 percent. There are indications that the upward trend would continue as the company's interim result for the half year ended march 31, 2007 shows increase in turnover from N628.31 million during the same period in 2006 to N714.5 million as profit after tax grew to 83.2 million from N67.25 million. BOC Gas is one of the low priced stocks that have made many investors rich on the stock market. Apart from capital gain, the company has done well in terms of earnings. It reporterd earning per share of 33 kobo in 2005. By the quarter ending January 2008, it earned 4, kobo per share, out of which it paid 18 kobo dividend per share. Investors are likely to realize their initial invested capital in about 28 years as the price earning ratio was 28.56 times. This is just not true!!! Cooking gas price and BOC ?? stanchuks: @Wanajo Will like to know if you have any info on Transexpress, i bought during the week at N6.65 and will like to know if its a good entry point I jumped out of Livestock feeds as adviced at N6.20 on monday and entered Transexpress with the proceed I am actually looking at a 6months to 1 year range here I stopped following TransExpress since madam MyPeace decided to hoard the shares. At N6.00, it does not meet my investment criteria again. That said, I expect the company to do well. So don't worry. |

Etin: @Nicklee (m)
Wanaj0, Fof2, Easimoni, WindyWendy, et al well done for a very useful thread. PLease I need your help. I seem to have missed the answer to this question can anyone help please. How do i get refund on Dangote Flour since I bought directly for GTB. Is there anyone in a similar situation who has got a refund? It seems everyone who has got a refund has got it via their Brokeris that correct? If you apply through a broker, the brokers will likely COLLECT the return money on your behalf most especially if you have a brokerage account with them. The incentive for them is that the money will likely be retained in your account with them. They normally go to the registrar to physically collect it on your behalf going with the schedule of the list of names of people that they submitted the applications for. However, the norm is for the registrar to mail the refund warrant to the address stated on your application form subjected to a maximum ammount fixed by the registrar to the offer. Anything above that, you get a letter by mail asking you to visit the registrar to collect your returned cheque. If you are in the country, just pay a visit to the registrar of the offer and explain to them. If it is First Registrars (they are the best as far as I am concerned), get their by 8.00am. If not you may spend too much time before getting someone to attend to you. Goingforward, for those outside the country, you can use the address of your broker as your address especially if the broker is a corporate entity. Just put your mails in care of (c/o) the broker. |

Mr. Risky: You have said it all Wanajo, And again what is driving the insurance stock prices ?? Recapitalization ? Which recapitalization ?? Where are the innovative market strategies in that sector ? Is it the N333m 3rd quarter PAT of NEM with over 5bn outstanding shares that is driving the price. Very soon there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. In a BULL market, if the name of SAVANNAH BANK were to be on the list of quoted companies its shares would still be on BID, not minding the army of lizards crawling in their former branches across the nation. Nothing kills faster than Hype, The way fundamentals have been thrown over board, hope cardiac arrest will not arrest some unwary investors . NOT MY PRAYER ANY WAY. How did you come up with 5bn oustanding shares for NEM? Have you added the shares to be issued for the acquisition of Vigilante For me, teh safety NET is your entry price. Will not be buying UNIC @ 6.00. I mean the PO @ 1.10 in 2006 was UNDERsusbcribed!!! What has changed That said, some of the insurance companies have a good business model. UNIC is one of them. NEM also is undergoing a turn around with the coming onboard of Vigilante so may give them the benefit of doubt. Will like to see the declarations of those insurance company. How much divdend will they pay. For those who are in for the short time, exit before the year end result!!!! Those guys are miserly with declarations. Also, the insurance sector will probably have the worst corporate governance. I think UNIC cleaned its books so I am a bit comfortable with them. That said, there are huge opportunities in that sector. Life insurance is one. Then look at the Health insurance, local content for the oil industry etc. |

FirstBank notched up 5% today. May be trying to move towards the 50.00 mark!!!! That no go dey easy for an ELEPHANT OOO Chellaram also added another 5%. Those guys need to comfirm their plans for a PO. That is key to determining which of the airports to disembark from. Flour Mill seems to have taken off!!!! Closed at 92.41 gaining 5% Same for Dangote Sugar. It should hit the 50.00 mark in readiness for the result. If Q1 2008 result is juicy as expected, expect it to soar high. BOC as expected notched up another 4.99% to close @ 20.47. Learnt that as you go higher you need to shed some load. Pilot asked whether he should release some fuel to balance the load so I volunteered to reduce my kg instead. I don't wnat to hear that fuel finished mid air!!!! Almost all the insurance companies collected the expected 5% gain so nothing special there. Mobil was a major loser on the petroleum sector. Lost over N10.00 today. Oando is showing that with patience, you will make it BIG on the NSE. The rejected stone is now 150. Thinking some people that bought the PO out of frustration sold @ 75.00 just some few weeks ago. God dey!! UNTL, a company that closed its factory, laid of its workers will likely be the BEST performer on the NSE this year. Gained another 5% today!!!! And for those that like paper profit, Dangote Flour gained 5% today in 1 deal. Who is the person that already has Dangote Flour share certificate ? Who is the person selling. Watch the volumes. I hope nobody on Nairaland is putting in a BUY order. Because the order will likely be executed for you @ 30.00 and after that, the price go nosedive come like 20.00. BUYERS BEWARE!!!! |

Rhemagirl: Just want to inform u though i know that the gurus in the house already know that:
1. ASO SAVINGS & LOANS PLC is processing a supplementary offer for N1.00. 2. ACCESS Bank is processing a Redeemable Debenture Stock, placing to IFC,BIO & FINNFUND at PAR (What does it mean by at PAR?) 3.GOLDLINK INSURANCE PLC is processing a private placement. at N1.50 4.Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc is processing a private placement at N0.80 5.Nigerdock Nig plc is processing a sale at N1.70 6.Nigeria Re Insurance plc is processing a subscription offer for sale at N2.20
Please gurus in the house let us know when all these happens mostly with the private placement which normally take place in a single day Guess you copied this from the SEC website. Well they don't update that website. Goldlink has concluded the special PP. I posted the allotment details here. 8 people only applied (yes) and were allotted in full!!!! That tells you how special the PP is. Sovereign Trust I think has concluded their own PP also. Nigerdock, not sure anything is happening there. |

ty_ademolu: Also, did anyone recieved returned cheques from the chams offer submitted to skye bank
My supposed broker told me he could not submit mine anymore, that UBA sidelined skye bank in submitting the forms and all skye bank forms were not entertained.
Please let me know if I'm the only one who heard this story, or if it is actually true.
Thanks Well, the processing is still ongoing hence there is no returned cheque yet. However, what I know is that UBA is the lead issuing house but all the other 3 issuing houses (SKYE, SANTRUST and FIDELITY) also underwrote a certain percentage of the offer. Based on what I am told, there should not be any refund money. This is because each house was to stop receiving forms once they reach the underwritten amount!!!! So, if your broker submitted your application after that point, your application will likely not be accepted. What I am not sure off is what will happen to those that submitted applications directly to CHAMS. UBA Global market was not transparent and clean in their handling of that transaction at all!!!! |

EMMAACHILE: First Bank result Review by PAML
Seems to be the worst public offer i Have participated in years and don't see any upside in 1st Bank. I knew it was not such a juicy offer and only bought because of the hype surrounding the Elephant. Luckily i don't not buy more than 10,000 units. I will offering all my units to anyone who is interested as soon as it is credited to my account. For me and my friends, we are currently off 1st Bank or the so called Elephant. Fair comment if you are in it for the short term. If you are not planning to stay in till August/September, then bail out. However, if you have a 12 months horizon, start to accummulate FBN now. When N250bn is put to work, you can imagine how much profit that will generate. First Bank is well positioned to each N50bn -N60Bn PAT in the 2009 (12 months result) They are set for big things. A sell of some stake in Celtel will make the price to go crazy again. |

pumice: Why? Why?! Why?!?! This Dangote guy is trying to tempt me o! I just have to try to resist. Better resist the temptation. Margin in that sector is not that huge. Competition is tight. Interest payment will eat seriously into the profit. If it as offer for sale, I will think twice. If it an IPO, will need to be sure that it is being offered at a discount. DSR was at a discount but the flour was way expensive. |

Still inside the UNIC flight o (economy class) thanks for the Champagne (the hostess gave it to me), I am happy to know you are still holding your first class sit.
It was the drink that makes me hang on, I would have jump out with those Taliban’s at 25% but today we are at 40% and still going strong. Na Long haul flight me dey take. There may be stop over at 7.00 but me no dey commot!! Na final destination I don check my luggage to. RoughCut: And the good thing its not one of those earmarked for TS soonest. Check seat number 5F just a couple of seats behind stock marshall wanaj0 in upper business classnot in first class there is somebody that looks like me occupying that seat They will need to make an offer to be able to compete. that na sure banker. That said, I dey struggle with the pilot now. We entered the same time!!! aktopgun: @tiwantiwa
chellarams has been in the overbought region for a while now. its in high demand still and if u remeber, bros wanajo has been enjoying a solo ride on this illiquid stock for a while now. . He wont sell any to us lesser mortals. u'll notice that the price has also consistently remained over the EMAs in the second part of the graph.
now only bigboylarry's crystal ball can tell us for how long it will remain this way sha. the trick is in spotting these trends early.
by the way, how do i post the pictorials on here? Well, me I no know book so no fit do all those una calculations. Na NSE made easy investing me I dey!!! |

Waiting for announcment for BOC for all to get ready for landing but it appears that the pilot just dey enjoy the crusie. Heard a prophesy of UNIC going to 7.00, abeg any other prophet to confirm that Any other witness in the house? UNTL was to be my worst BUY courtesy of my broker. Holding on is like a blessing now!!! So funny. Company that closed down its factories moved from a low of about 1.20 to 5.48. NGC seems to have made a U Turn for those doing CICO they can take a look at it. It will likely reach 29.00 before another merry go round |
Business › Re: Firstbank Hybrid Offer: Fraudulent? by wanaj0: 4:28pm On Feb 01, 2008 |
Piddo: Has it dawned on anyone that we all may have been taken for a ride by FirstBank during their recently concluded hybrid offer? I just got my money returned to me and did a little math to see how we could have helped some bank managers get richer.
Being a current shareholder, I tried to take advantage of the rights issue (N31) and applied for roughly 161,290 shares which translates to a N5m investment. When word about the oversubscription started to go round, I knew I would get some money returned to me. How much however, I had no clue. When my stock broker notified me of the returned check, I found out I was allotted just over 8000 shares (5%) out of the lot I applied for. My returned check was for N4.75m exactly. As if this was not enough insult, no interest was paid on the money. Bear in mind here that I incured a N25,000 COT bill to make the money available to my brokers in the first place.
Now the story is that the offer was oversubscribed to the tune of N500bn. Between august 2007 and jan 2008, you have a clear 4 months for which if that money was placed (and you can bet on the fact that it was) at 12% per annum, you will end up with a cool N5bn per month. In 3 months, some smart managers would have banked N15bn at the expense of investors!!!! Now our monies are returned to us interest free. How criminal.
EFCC needs to look at this matter closely. Did you apply for more than your rights? If yes why? if no, you will be alloted your full rights!!!!!! |
