@ Napoleon, I beg to disagree as per importers getting loans at high intesret rate. They do. The margin is not much but they work on turnover. Most of the loans are even short term facility. Some are overdraft.

Interest rate is falling now. So even for your termdeposit, your chnaces of getting anything above 15% is slim. Even pension funds with huge money are not getting that huge interest rate again.

Yes there are sharp practices. You have directors using bank loans collected at a discount to buy same bank shares. That is clearly illegal but difficult to prove!!!

On commission, I go for a flat % irrespective of the quantity I am trading in. However, as your portfolio size increases, you can go for a fee. Same way you do with property transactions. Above a certain level, you start to negotiate!

Nothing bad in doing CICO. However, it is not always the most profitable. Over time, studies has showsn that you make more money the longer you stay in a fundamentally sound stock.

With all the inefficiencies on the NSE, there is still a lot of money to be made. So no one should panic.

For those complaining about their brokers, well you need to change your strategy. If you really want to be wealthy, you need to have a 'personal' broker, a lawyer and then an accountant.

As per identity theft, those abroad should stop buying as individuals. Make transactions as a corporate entity. That in a way shields your identity.

@Nairalanders

Don't get blown away completely by what Napolean is saying - kind and truthful they may be.

Private placements are good but do bear in mind that they are not as well scrutinised by the authorities as IPOs so the risks are that much higher.

Some of us are aware of how long since IGI started their PP - 2006 - they have promised to list this year. Some don't intend to list and don't promise to do so you will have the problem of liquidity.

Also there are now monies being returned regularly.

If you have a strong contact in the issuing house or the company doing the placement it can be a "sure banker". You must have money to tie down for many months or years.

Re: Japaul.Any info on the additional rights allotment?

Samstone4 cool cool cool
Why not holding brief for Napoleon, you need to understand the way PP works.

Firtsly, PP is goo for those willing to get locked in for a while. Sometimes they even include clauses preventing you from selling the shares until a certain period. Most often it is meant for selected few. When you see PP being 'advertised' (that's illegal) or being hawked around, then that is not agood PP.

The day IBTC mentioned the Red Star Express PP, that same day those that applied were told that it is no longer available. No way you can go wrong with such PP's.

Those that bought Transcorp at N1.00, the price will have to fall below N0.50 before they can make a loss!!! How feasible is thathuh

You will also see that by virtue of age, there are certain risk he cannot take because he does not have age on his side.

We all are learning anyway!!!

Napoleon, thanks for the expo!!!

Where do I start from?

Transcorp, many shady deals where done with the shares during the PP. Most of the guys did not pay for the holding. N.O is one of them. That's why I lost faith in them.

Reality is the kind of game you play and you talk about, you must have DEEP pockets. You need to see how the Econet deals were struck to appreciate this.

Yes at your age, you can't do CICO. Preservation of capital is the key word for you. For those in their 20's, they can afford to take more risk. So I can undesrtand with them.

Yes we have FI's coming into the country. Most often the deals are done by placement. It is the politicians with stolen money and the PFA/Insurance companies that are fuelling the current distortions on the NSE!!! Imagine stocks rising after lifting from TS due to an offerhuh??

When we are BIG enough, we will have our own brokerage house doing our trading for us.

I am totally frustrated, I gave my broker an order to sell union homes when it closed at 9.63 at 9.45, he did not sell cause he said he used his discretion and the market was still bouyant. Now union homes has gone done. For two days now has has not sold my first bank despite agreeing to sell as lowest of the day. This broker is just too slow for CICO and so I am thinking of moving my account to my friend in cash craft. Can someone please let me know how long it would take to move my account. This is decent money and I am just not happy at all.

@ ALL,

On Transcorp, the initial PP was done @ N1.00 for shares at par value of N1.00. Later the second round of PP was done @ N6.00 for the same par value shares of N1.00. Prior to listing, a stock split was done. This invariable means that people bought the shares @ N0.50 and N3.00 for the 50k share. Those that bought via the PO bought @ 7.50.

So even @ N3.00, those that bought @ N0.50 are willing to sell and that is at huge profit!!!! That's the benefit of getting in early. Expect those that bought @ N3.00 to start selling now.

On IAA, I am not doing any investigation. My cheque don go already. If not for the other listings for this month, the listing would have being by last week of February. Now I think March/April is more like it! Got no time to waste.

For those who have questions, call Thelma on 08024917183 of Transglobe Investment and Finance Co. Limited.

@Oga Wanaj0

I am still agreeing with you.

I did say most of the good pp (i mean for example telecoms) are handled by IBTC, as they have a lot of high net worth clients (companies and individuals) so no need to market. Also having good shares in few hands, is a plus for the shareholders in such a particular company.

I agree with you again, on the fact that many people got a sizeable amount of universal. That includes my company but not my little girl whom i bought directly for. That is because we negotiated directly with the board of universal before the offer opened. I do hope those that bought CHAMS in the recent offer got all they wanted, but the info reaching me is that many invitation letters where photocopied and circulated. The offers is very over subcribed but I sincerely hope all you who bought get what you want.

Please realise that those who buy through stockbrokers to the offer, issuing houses are high up in the pecking order vis-a-vis buying through stockbrokers, but nothing can compare to negotiating direct with the company.

There are stockbrokers and there are stockbrokers. A friens of mine has his firm capitalised to N2b and has only about 9 serious clients. And I know of others firms that are even doing better but people don't consider such. Unfortunately due to market inefficiencies there are different rules for different people. eg, I'm not recommending 1st Inland but i have a friend who will pay for it in august (with premium), get rights and his certificate within 5 working days of payment clearing. I know the new investors may think i'm joking. As you progress you will see for yourselves. On the issue of right, ever wondered why your rights circular sometimes comes after the cut off date, after the close of offer or not at all. Because the deep pockets get them. I bought RT Briscoe rights a year after it had closed. I don't know whether the owner renounced them or not.

I bought my IEI for 85k p/s on the day it listed. My CSCS was credited two weeks after. I'm not sure if those that filled form have received their certs? I don't check.

As for resort, if your interesd buy. But you may find that it has already been allocated. (it has). Acorn will also return money but the minimum should be given.

I have digressed to the point, I have forgotten my inital point!

Last word, only deal with brokers you that you can call the MD anytime and he tells you the truth. The real truth. And if he is clue-less, move on.

@Windywendy, many thanks.

Good night all, and I hope all your efforts are rewarded!
My brother, you know your onions. We got to yearn!!!!

While you can negotiate with the board, Access and FBN messed up big time. PHB is towing the same route. They reneged on agreement reached on preferential allottment.

You need to know the issuing houses to understand how things work.

On Chams, many funny things are going on. UBA Global market wants to do the allocation but the other issuing houses are saying thateveryone should be allowed to allot the portion that it underwrote. UBA is just clearing cheques for those that pay for the offer!!! A friend is just submitting his form through SKYE even though he already indicated interest.

Well, in Nigeria, we different rules for different people.

I've missed out of a lot of opportuities because of work. Work in the engineering field which hardly allow me time to network well.

My brother, if you have any juicy info, abeg let a brother in.

On IBTC, don't mind them. The way they packaged the Red Star express was so funny. For me, any PP that is being advertised and hawked around is not good enough.

On your IES, maybe you bought via a broker who has already warehoused the stocks. So he will jsut cross it to you from his account to your CSCS account. That's the kind of trades that you see when stocks are newly listed. No money is exchanged.

Anyway, nice tapping into your wealth of Knowledge.

@
Oga Wanaj0 na real guru be that!

I think we are saying the same thing but from 2 opposite angles., IAA is closed. They started that PP in 2006. it wasn't very successful and in 2007 they started raising more funds and the offer kept on "closing" from june 2007 till about 10 days ago. The execs verified this alottment has been concluded.

However, you are in a better situation because you are buying from those who have warehoused the units. They are likely to be brokers to the issue/issuing house so they are aware of what they have to sell. They are likely to have even received their certificates so they are in a position to cross to you.

Same situation with universal. They sold to you from what they had. But those who filled the official form and will wait (how long, who knows) for their certificates will be those who may gnash their teeth. Especially since as a pp, there is no presure on the company to return funds with any interest.

I know you are usually a cautious investor, so I'm just trying to make sure the relatively new investors don't get their fingers burnt. I actually registed on this forum about 35 minutes ago purely to respond to your thread. I consider myself relatively experienced and I am aware of the risks. I am also one of those fortunate to but transcorp during the initial pp at N1 and chams in 2005.

PP can be sweet, was sweeter back them. Now (not being rude) it is becomming an all comers affair with low buy in rates and the monies are being retured.

Oga Wanaj0 whats the difference now between pp and IPO, not much.

Thank guys for your time. You are all doing well and should be very proud of yourselves.
My dear, we know the GURU's for this place OOO. Don't let them sue me for impersonation!!!!!

You be real insider. Transcorp @ N1.00 was a kill. Same for Chams then in 2005. For Chams they've given you people a stock split and a bonus of 4 for 1!!!!! But that's what patience does.

For PP, you are locked in for a LONG time. That to me makes it not to go down well with a lot of people. Secondly, you are in with a company with little info and track record so the risk of failure is high. Good thing is if it goes well, you don hammer be that!!! that's why for the last CHAMS PP, Na everything I can lay my hands on then that I put into it.

Good PP's are still not an allcomers afair. Just check out the MTN placement. Same for Goldlink. PP's are normally done via invitation and targeted at specific people. In the true sense of the word your application can be rejected. Also the entry price naturally drive people away. That was what happened with Virgin Nigeria.

To hear about good PP's you must have your ear on the ground. Red Star express was announced by IBTC after it has closed!!!!! For you to have participated in Transcorp @ N1.00 shows that you have your ears on the ground.

I expect Starcomms to be doing a PP but yet to hear any info. Do you know about this?

Cheers

Napolean:
The truth is most of the very good pp's are secret and you have to negotiate your way into them. Usually handled by IBTC or boutique high net worth firms that the names may not readily spring to your mind. The rest are bog standard and I view them very similar to IPO's. You can imagine 10% allottment with universal even though they could have absobed much more. By the way, it's scare on the floor but you can negotiate block purchases directly with the directors for N3 now. It's not likely to be available in good volume before N4

Or is it Goldlink that sold it's PP to 8 people, mostly themselves

The truth is people want penny shares and dream of 500% returns, or more! The peole the enjoyed insurance pp bought in 2006 when they were speculating. The volume you wanted was available because at that point even the directors were not entirely sure they would scale through. Now different story. This time next year I doubt any would be less that N10-12 unless the market becomes bearish.

how many people got volume of costain, nascon, niwi cable, afroil, big treat, capital oil before they became readily available?

I don't want to put a damper on your feeling but the reality of the market will make you vex. Oga Wanaj0 often puts things into perspective.

I'm not a short termer, but Baba Ibeji is likely to be doing better CICO and Oga Wanaj0 buying and waiting (longtern) rather than peeps thinking they will buy 10 mill units of an insurance stock at 60K and sell at N7. Sorry, smell the coffee!

Lastly, to buttress my point the reason why many people who bought the UBA PO last year are yet to receive their certificates is because the issuing houses were playing "games" ie; a close friend with real deep pockets still bought the PO in July 2007. After it had long "closed". Why because SEc hadn't yet cleared the offer and there was still a "way in".

Lets hope things improve.
Napoleon, while I get your gist but you need to put things in perspective.

As per Insurance PP, I doubt whether IBTC will package anyone of them. Most don't have audited accounts. Basically they have issues to sort out.

The insurance PO's in 2006 were undersusbcribed. At least I know that UNIC was undersubscribed.

With a lot of foreign funds and PFA funds coming in, the landscape is a bit different. You now have a lot of money chasing fewer goods (stocks).

Hardly do you have PP's returning money. When that is done, it is more likely because the major shareholders don't want to dilute their holding beyond a certain level. That's what happened with Fidson and Intercontinental homes.

Now, most people enter PP as preferential allotees so they get ALL that they requested for. Some of teh brokerage houses warehouse the shares and start to sell later.

Not sure where you got the 10% allottment for Universal. I however know that some people got almost 3bn units of Universal. that's why they listed 16bn (Yes 16bn units) on the NSE.

Something similar is happening to the IAA. Some people warehouse it as preferential investors. They are selling from their allotment at a premium.

The risk with PP is the duration. If you are loaded, you pay towards the end of the placement. I know people that paid for Universal and IAA as late as Janury 2008!

Most often we are all just exploiting the weakness in the system. However, fundamentals will reign at the end of the day.

With regard to Oga Wanaj0 mentioning IAA, i'm not sure about the possiblity of entering. Spoke with the execs of IAA themselves and was told they have raised more than enough funds, they don't want over bloating. Entering now means your money will sit at the issuing house and be reutren after many months with 0% interest.

Fidson PP returned lots of money.

Universal Insurance PP is only allotting 10-15% of what was applied for.

That means IAA = Maximum risk at this stage. Besides the "premium" is to an unkwown name and you may find it hard recovering it, in the event you do not get all you applied for. But your principle is guranteed.

Decision is all yours huh
Thanks for the info. It has helped me a lot.

From what I learnt, allotment is completed!!! You can't do a listing until the allotment is done.

Yes the premium is going to the brokerage house.

As I said, BUYERS BEWARE. I've already issued my cheque anyway.

Will let you know what happened at the end of the day.

As per Universal, the brokerage house told me that they will credit the account of all those that bought through them latest next week!!! No certificate. No verification issue. The brokerage firm warehouse the shares to sell to their clients.

@ ALL,

On Investment and Allied Assurance (IAA), they did a PP which I was made to participate by default (don't ask me how). The PP was done @ N2.10 and the par value was N2.00 so at listing, you will get four times what you applied for.

Now a brokerage house appreantly bought (warehouse) some of those shares and are willing to sell now. That same brokerage house is selling Universal Insurance that just got listed @ 2.30. Now some weeks back (8 weeks ago) was offered this same Universal by the same brokerage house @ 1.00.

Well, I don't have any info on the company. No prospectus but I have filled a stock transfer form for some units of the IAA from the brokerage firm. It was to be listed this month but will now be listed in March. Was also told that there will be no certificate that my CSCS account will be credited straight away. They are according to them opening an account for me for this purpose.

In summary, the PP has closed. Allotment done. So I am buying from someone so no issue of oversubscription here. Price as at today is N2.60. As at yesterday it was N2.40!!!!!

That's ALL the info that I have.

BTW, I have bought a few units so no more purchases for me till further notice.

BUYERS BEWARE.

@wanaj0 - Thanks for that tip on Japual.

How you take know say I do the PO? This an first PO casuality wey I lose out to oversubscription. For a reason I don't understand it was done in one tranch so nothing for me  huh huh 5.5% ke? Mo gbe o.
You are a fanatical fan of Japaul.

Depending on how much you applied for, it is not that bad. Look at FCMB, if you applied for less than 1m units, you get full allottment. So things are getting better with PO's tongue

FBN was out to make story of hitting N1tr capitalisation. Hence now that that is achieved, expect the price to drop to the N48.00 - N50.00 mark.

Hello

Father of 2, please I know you believe in FCMB. I bought these shares hoping to CICO out, however it is tying money down since December. Is it advisable to sell now and look for other short termers. Your response will be highly appreciated, as once the IPO shareholders receive their certificates it would not be pleasant news at all.
Other members of the house please feel free to comment.
For a beginner, you started the wrong way. Patience is a virtue in this business. Nothing to show that the 'other short termers' will not do a repeat of what FCMB is doing to you!!!!

Understand that sometimes, it can take like 3months to get your expected result and sometimes even longer!

Hello Gurus, please i plan to buy shares(P.O) in my Business name but because i don't have a company seal, i intend to just write the name like an individual .hope it won't affect me.Like if my company name is Joy Peters.I intend to open a CSCS account as an individual with it and when i am buying IPO since they are fond of returning money, to write it as an individual because there is a space for companies and i would need a seal which i don't have. Please i will await the Lecturer's answers.
Get a seal. Not expensive. Less than 4k I think. It saves you hassles when you want to verify certificates and handle other transactions

African Elephant na the original king of the jungle jo. UBA and Zenith come be like wild cats for the jungle wey big bar dey on top them head. Na wa o. Investors wey wan buy the whole of FBN at any price never even look UBA or Zenith side. I go dash my own give my stockbroker o  grin grin grin

I dey find that person wey buy my FBN for N51. I wan collect am back cool cool
When dey tell Una sey Elephant don enter market you think say na jokehuh someone was even talking about bar at N50.00?? All those returned money where do you think it is coming back to? FBN is in a class of its own. Almost 1m applicants for the PO no be joke. Moreover, unlike UBN (they've done me well also), FBN has a forward looking board and management.

Note however, that FBN na still for the long term. 2009, if Jesus tarries go be helele. When the N250bn land for market, na to push other people out. FCMB PO got  less than 100,000 applicants!

If you dey ves for selling @ 51.00, what of those that sold @ 40.00. While forget the emotions and enjoy the loot courtesy of the elephant!

@ Pumping, Wanaj0 and others

Can you believe I made one silly mistake; I place an order for UTC and First Aluminium since 28th of January without a price limit. I have forgotten about it until yester night when I called my broker (to discuss something else) that she told me they were able to buy both stocks for me at 7.42 and 5.21 respectively. All I could say was “Mo gbe o!!!”

Do you think I can still CICO on these stocks with this price?

During our discussion she also told me that their firm Partnership Investment is going on PP very soon; I guess the recapitalization has started, so we should all expect more PP’s and IPO’s from all these investment companies.
Well, that's a mistake that should NEVER be made. All orders must go with price limits or expiry dates!!!!!!!!! Sometimes, my orders are valid for only 24hrs!!!! When you are doing CICO, all your orders must expire same day because you need to adjust your plan based on current realities.

Made same mistake some years ago. Ordered for UNTL @ about 2.00 after an impressive result. Share was not available until when it was above 4.00. That was when I got my contract note.

Take heart. If you hit your exit point, vamoose!!!!
