I laugh when people who say ban, tax or eradicate sports betting companies later invest in the stock market. They don't know what's going on. I will only share this secret, if you know what you are doing, you will thank God they exist. They trade the market for you, and you invest through them. They make it easier for the common man to access the market. I am serious. No joke.
But the law is for them to have a strong capital base, just like the banks. It's a welcome development. It's a financial industry and should be treated as such. |

SIRTee15: I agree we should deal with Chinese because we have no alternative. That's the reality in the world we live now. Western nations cannot match the massive and generous funding coming from China.
But it's stupid borrowing 5.6 billion dollars to build railway line from Lagos to kano. Seriously, that means we will have to borrow over 30 billion dollars to cover the 6 regions in nigeria. How do we intend to pay back? Those projects cannot generate enough funds to pay back the loan. They are more of govt social responsibility infrastructural projects. U dont build such things with any intention of ROI. Apart from Tinubu, no other leader build roads or bridges with the intention of taxing the users to death, just to get the money back.
We should be borrowing to build refineries, develop manufacturing capability, expand special economic zones, deepen industrial process n value added chain, expand our agro allied industry etc.
Such huge fund would have benefited the country more if it's meant to build an independent power project not connected to national grid, and meant to serve the industrial areas and SEZ. Just imagine places like Aba, kano, Ota, Apapa, Agbara having cheap and regular 24 hours electricity. That's a powerful magnet for foreign investors n strong potential for consumer goods export.
Imagine spending that amount to develop the rice agro allied sector. We will supply the whole of Africa with rice and become a dominant player.
Alternatively, why can't we tell China to use the money to develop a steel production facility for us here in nigeria, and we watch how it's done. Or is it a crime if we start producing and exporting steel products.
I've always said it, our Leaders lacks sense, amaechi is just interested in the kickbacks from the whole deal. Because I really don't understand why we want to mortgage our future over inexpedient physical infrastructures.
U mentioned Chinese people as good people. I laff in mandarin. Those guys have poor social and managerial skills. They are brutal n heartless human resource managers albeit effective. They lack conscience, and the only god they worship is money. They've taken over from America as the masters of brutal capitalism. Its like u guys have no idea how they became the 2nd largest economy in the world within a very short time. Let them take over in Nigeria, u guys will understand. The only good thing that will come out of it- for the very first time, Nigerians will learn the meaning discipline and hardwork. Guy, this your comment is what I have been looking for. Just woke up to this and I am both happy and sad. Happy because someone hit the exact point of how to get ourselves out of poverty and sad because people like you don't get a chance to lead. |

Excuses: Bro am not a prof. but let me try.
The only way Nigeria can enhance its economy and move forward right now is diversification & drastic reduction of spending on fixed assets of governance and government.
Now the only source of revenue generation for the country is crude oil, these crude oil is prized low at the international market a,among competiting commodities of other nations, now that plenty nations have no need for it cos of alternative sources of energy it's value has drop.
The essence of diversification is to reduce dependency on a single source of revenue & the risk that comes with it,which is were we're. Naira can only appreciate against the dollar if and only if, we are exporting more than we are importing. And by exporting i mean high valuables commodities other nations of the world need for survival.
Lastly government will relieve itself of spending and maintenance of national assets by way of privatization to be managed by individuals e.g sea ports, air ports,nnpc..
Hence the government can only focus on infrastructural development and running of government and not spending on government.. Exactly. Nigeria always make simple things hard. But, something might be going on behind the scenes. Maybe our former colonialists are involved in blocking our rise. |

pafra: All funds on litigation with efcc and icpc that have been frozen can be borrowed by the FG use it for some of the infrastructure then later pay back when this cases are lost by the FG. You miss my point. Let me elaborate. I am saying since the government is powerful enough to overreach, there should be little to nothing stopping it in a bid to diversify/restructure the economy. If it would affect the revenues of a few big guns who are solely heavily invested in oil, so be it, for the survival of the country. Unless, the big guns are government, who are then overreaching into our accounts still. |

cooltola: Blaming Buhari as the cause of Nigeria problem is just ignorant. When it comes to stealing of national cake, APC is PDP. It does not matter who won or who is power, they are corrupt. There is not even one credible politician in power that is not corrupt and that is where the most problems start. To find a Nigerian politician that is not corrupt is a very rare phenomenon Ha ha ha. Nobody will blame Buhari if he didn't put himself in trouble. You saw Nigeria's problem and you know you couldn't solve it, why take the slack? 2. Ok maybe you can solve an aspect, why not transparently dissolve powers to strengthen institutions that can take on other aspects? |

Dpearlz: Yes I understand your point of view. But my definition of critical projects is one that will bring these benefits ASAP.
- Reduce Food Shortages - Reduce Unemployment - Reduce Poverty - Increase Nigeria's GDP per capita - Reduce Crime (by reducing the number of idle people).
Of that project and the once I listed as what they should focus on, which will yield the faster result?
We can Use the roads for now but maintain them properly until we can sort these pressing needs out. Gbam! |

Bar1941: I know our government is useless and may likely default from the agreement but the issue is even if China seizes the assets, they will still be in Nigeria they can't transplant them to China, it will still be for the betterment of our people. Guy, imagine being a landlord. Okay, I come to your house and live in it. At the end of the year, you Mr. Landlord pays me rent for living in your house. Meanwhile your wife and children are hungry and sick, and you can't take care of them. All while your fellow landlords are driving the latest cars and their families are enjoying. You know what's more? I can wake up one morning and tell you to sweep my door front and add steps there. Judging by your comment, I guess you will like this type of arrangement. And this is an example why ignorance is dangerous in our times. |

pafra: Guys it's easy to criticis the government. Critically let's look at the situation of Nigeria.
Nigeria is a mono economy that depends on oil. The price have been down since the government came in it means, the amount realize from sells of oil can not finance our budget.
Please as Nigeria that want to see the country better let's list other forms of financing the budget outside borrowing.
Forget hate and let's talk about the nation Why is Nigeria a mono economy up till now? Is it that we are not blessed with diverse natural resources or with brilliant people? |

soberdrunk: You are actually the olodo in this case, next time if you don't understand something just ask. What the individual is saying is simply the tactics some countries use to attract investment, any smart businessman will jump at the opportunity to invest in a country where his country's currency has more value. A practical example is you having 1k in your pocket and you are very hungry, would you go to a Porsche restaurant and have only salad for 1k or go to mamaput and enjoy pounded yam and Egusi with plenty meat for that same 1k? Unfortunately the CBN isn't devaluing the currency for the good of Nigerians, instead they have turned the devaluation to person business to enrich themselves. The trick is not whether you are saving in dollars or in the naira. The real molla is in having assets in both currencies, then averaging appropriately. |
