The moral thing is for tambuwal to resign honorably. The constitution is clear on it.
wouldn't say you should go and read the constitution because I believe we both know what it says. While he was decamping, he stated his reason clearly - that there was a faction in the PDP in Sokoto state. Now, whether there was a faction or not is for the courts to decide; not me, not you, not APC, not PDP, not the police and not GEJ. And by my understanding of the constitution, if there was no faction, he should vacate his seat in the house and not just his position as speaker. But going by precedent, that's a very rare occurrence...

PDP should just be guided by common sense. This approach will only make people have more sympathy for Tambuwal/APC and start disliking PDP. There are much better ways this situation could have been managed.

In any rift, it's always good to gain the moral high ground. PDP is fast losing it...

FamilyRe: How To Tolerate Cheating Husband. by Williamso(m): 4:52pm On Nov 18, 2014
@ happywife

A lot of people have said a lot of things... My advice? Explore everything possible to make you happy, including divorce, if necessary, BUT DO NOT CHEAT!!! It's just wrong...

Doing so will only increase the likelihood of going down that divorce line, and when if you do, which do you think will serve you better: divorce because your husband cheated or divorce because you (both) cheatedhuh

I'm not advocating divorce, I only mean you should consider cheating as a last resort; divorce should even be considered before cheating.

P.S.: My stand on infidelity has nothing to do with religion, heck, apply common sense. You don't have to be a b!73h (no pun intended) to prove you married a dog (no pun intended)...
BusinessRe: Dangote Refinery To Start Production In 2018 by Williamso(m):
Qoigord:
The current refineries in this country aren't working up to full capacity. We're an oil producing country who imports oil and refined oil produce.
We do not import oil.

There's little or no job opportunities available and the price of petroleum in an oil producing country is on the rise.
While there are no job opportunities, I still cannot understand how building and operating a refinery will create less jobs than importing already refined oil and storing in tank farms. How many people do you need to run a tank farm? Contrast that with a refinery.

Yes, the refinery will create job opportunities but how will this help boost exportation in the long run and reduce dependence on importation?[/b]
As for boosting exportation, when we produce more than we need, where will the excess go? Besides, it's a private sector investment, with competent professionals who will 'source' for the market. I believe we both know private sector businesses function a lot better than public sector so this should not be disputed. As for reducing dependence on importation, when we produce what we need, to the capacity we need, why should we import? If you have a water purification and bagging (pure water) plant, will you be buying sachet water outside?? huh huh

Many countries abroad have started diverting from oil and gas to bio fuel for generating power. With this new finding, can you please explain to me how this will help in our exportation of oil produce?
While countries have started diverting to bio-fuel, I dare say it's only a handful of countries, and not many like you believe. Even the ones that have moved to bio-fuel are still (heavily) dependent on fossil fuel. There are about 192 countries registered under UN, plus a few others; I challenge you to mention 30 making major breakthroughs in bio-fuel technology.

Thanks.

Yeah I do not see it now because right now, there is no monopoly.

Monopoly is not just about dominating the market, but dominating the market through unfair practices. Right now, and for the immediate forseeable future, he will be the only owner of a private refinery. There's no competitor to bully (like he did in the cement industry), thus, no monopoly.
BusinessRe: Dangote Refinery To Start Production In 2018 by Williamso(m): 8:53am On Nov 18, 2014
Qoigord:
This is bad news for the Nigerian economy as a whole. Anyone who thinks this is good for the country must be a very uneducated person. This will only make Dangote richer and Nigeria poorer. Nigeria won't grow till we stop depending on oil and find other means of revenue.
I don't get. Please explain.

One of the major detriments to our economy is the fact that we keep importing refined petroleum products. Refining our own will cut this practice and possibly enable us export if we refine above our local consumption. Despite the fact that this refinery will create thousands of jobs during construction and operation stages.

So please, WHAT ARE YOU SAYING/TYPING?? huh huh huh

To cary out a thorough maintenance work on our existing refineries will be not be cost effective. It will be a total waste of funds. This is because the four refineries are so old that components needed for their maintainance are not in production all over the world.
The quack mire was brought about by economic centralization (a policy excessive government monopoly) for many years since 1975 until about 2006 when the sector was opened up for private sector participation in petrochemicals development.
Unfortunately the private sector had not been able to make use of this opportunity because petroleum products prices are still being regulated. No investor especially foreign investors will invest in a regulated economy were prices are fixed. That's why no refineries were build even after seven or more licenses were approved to begin construction of refineries. It was as a result of this delima that the present government in January 2012 attempted to completely remove fuel subsidy and allow market forces to control prices to encourage private investors to build refineries but Nigerians kicked against the removal.
Dangote is building the refineries out of patriotism because he's a Nigerian and a wealthy one at that. He can afford to build a refinery and still make a substantial profit even in the present condition of government intervention in prices.
Spot on!!!

MONOPOLY
It's monopoly when you 'unfairly' fight the competition into oblivion. He's building the first private refinery, and while he most certainly may be monopolizing other business sectors, I don't see a monopoly in this case...

Brilliant piece. I love the objectivity of this article. While I have no party allegiance, My mind is already made up on who (not which party) to vote for; such that even if he changes party a day before the elections, he will still have my vote.

I think Nigerians should rise above blind and misguided party affiliations, but that's just my opinion.

Again, brilliant piece by SLS.

Really?

ayusco85:
In response to an earlier thread by ''Killjoy'' (what a moniker huh) about ''Reasons Why Guys Should Never Get Married'', i was so disturbed that such a young man will have such a mindset about marriage, an institution that was made by the all knowing Creator for a special purpose, an institution upon which we are all a product of. if our parents had his views we wouldnt have been born let alone create a thread on Nairaland with the sole aim of discouraging guys from getting married.
Well this thread isnt to counter his (''killjoys'') thread, but to show the other (good) side of marriage which he chose to hide for reasons best known to him.
Being married is nowadays considered to be old-fashioned. Young people find matrimony conservative and prefer to stay officially unattached. Countries with traditional views still believe that family is something essential in every person’s life.
There are advantages and disadvantages in being married. Apart from weight gain and argument, there are positive aspects. If the union is happy, what the couple may experience is financial benefits, support, and good health. Sociologists have proved that those who prefer to get married to their partner are happier in their relationship than those who stay unmarried. More than that, kids who are born to married parents are much happier and psychologically healthier.
It's difficult to see otherwise...
RomanceRe: Ten (10) Reason Why You Should Get Married. --for Everyone by Williamso(m): 4:32pm On Nov 05, 2014
Threads and counter-threads....... Na waa!!!

Marriage is not for everyone: some people are psychologically made to be married, others are not. Some people's lives gets a very positive boost when they get married, others take a downward spiral. We shouldn't expect everybody to get married, and stereotype every (middle-aged) single person as irresponsible/morally bankrupt.

Depending on the individual, these 10 benefits (or even more not stated) might apply to you if/when you get married, or the disadvantages in the other thread might suffice.

There are no general laws for every marriage; to each his/her own.
