What was your conclusion? Any link to NSE? Though, this is about the US Housing bubble. And, the smart guy that bet against the direction everyone else was going.
Oh no, nothing linked to the NSE. I was just terribly impressed that's all cheesy cheesy goes to show how good 'ol research can pay off (as opposed to going with the herd . . .)

I have looked at every scenario possible and I can't see on good reason for downgrading UBA from a BUY.

Another story. We need to take a better look at the impact of the nominal price of stocks. If one looks closely, you will find that the stocks that have appreciated the most this year are fundamentally expensive stocks with low nominal value.

Check out Oasis insurance and some other insurance stocks. Wapic has moved from N7 to N11 (about 55%)  since the insurance funds were released but stocks like Oasis have done more than 100% with no fundamentals to speak of!!!

Everywhere I have been looking on the NSE, it is the same story.
True, true, true!! But what do you care? Just take advantage of the madness and ride the bull  grin grin IEI in the last quarter of 2007 was such a money spinner with terrible fundamentals, same as companies like first aluminium and livesstock feeds. It's a crazy market innit?  cheesy cheesy

Windywendy,
I have a special question for you. Could you kindly help me ( and other affected parties) use your resources to find out any news about Union Diagnostics and Skye Shelter fund? There has been now news whatsoever and that is hard earned popcorn they are playing with. Thanks in advance.
Dun know nothing about Skye Shelter Fund. As per Union Diagnostics, spoke with someone who informed me that they've submitted all their papers to the SEC (or is it NSE) and fulfilled all of the requirements for listing. Said that the reason it's been this long is that they (SEC or NSE) kept asking for more papers back and forth. All things being equal, they should be listing March/April at between N3 to N3.25. The PP was oversubscribed as you already know, and they're absorbing everything. I was like  shocked shocked shocked, but then whatever . . .

@windywendy.

I'll try and do that for your sake because I wasn't really interested. I work in the petroleum sector and that is one area that is going no where fast. As long as we can't refine and the market is regulated there won't be much profits for the marketers to make. However the news of the Eterna oil just made me think of FOF2 and his earlier recommendation. Made me wonder if he was truly Ndidi's PA. I'll have the full details for you on Tuesday latest.

FatherOF2:
Why you no say UACN. huh
Hmmm, UACN is cheap no doubt, what with a forward PE of <18. But at the current price, I don't see too much upside for the stock (i.e. if one wants to trade oh). Also, they've done an interim dividend of 50k so the final payout may not be too enticing to lift the share price that much. Besides, results won't be out until late April at the earliest, So Unilever will most likely rally before this one. For Unilever, the coy has been in the doldrums and with the turnaround this year, they're definitely going to do something relatively good for the shareholders. So that anticipation will give a better upside than UACN. That's my take though, and it may be completely wrong but then again, it may be absolutely right cheesy cheesy

Even if na Unilever(no be say na e oh). I ask TIME DON REACH. huh
Na unilever jo!

But that your question hard small. The company has turned around but is still quite expensive. Me ordered in December at 19.5 and will be looking to sell at 26 or thereabout, which is where I think it might peak out. But the stock seems to still be taking a beating, so whether or not time don reach will depend on the returns you're looking to make. If you're happy with 10 or 15% return, then I'ld say maybe next week would be a good time to enter when it bottoms out from the current downward trend. Results will be out in March, so rally might start toward Feb. ending. Over to you!

The analysis can start now.
No point. Money has gone out the door already!

wanaj0:
Turned in the first batch of the CHAMS offer via UBA Stockbrokers who asked UBA global market to allocate and give a written undertaking for 20m units. The way UBA is handling the thing, there might be over subscription. Not sure thay had control over the units being submitted. Blocked 2m units for me and my friends but we exceeded and gave them a post dated cheque for 15th of January.
Actually I think they do. My source in UBA GM said that the issuing houses each have their allocations and will be meeting every week to guage how far things are going. Their objective is to avoid oversubscription and having to return monies. So once each exhausts his allocation, collection should stop. Now having said that, I won't be too surprised if one or more of the issuing houses doesn't abide by that. Afterall it's free money walking in the door, why turn it back when you can use it to trade? I hope they would be scrupulous enough to not do that! But somehow I'm trusting that UBA GM won't do that.

Na wa oh! This thread is something else. Less than 24hrs wen I log on and more than 7 more pages!

Oga Wanaj0, which analysis you dey wait? No be you talk say "no analysis paralysis"? Me don commot for that side long time ago. It's a good offer, and yes I've turned in my application. Those UBA guys try for me well well. They were even willing to wait beyond the Monday deadline they gave me, and agreed to accept my application online while awaiting the cheque from my broker. Anyway, that one's done.

As per AG leventis, I'ld say "yes" it's good at the current price. I tried re-entry today after selling a few days back but no show. Thought twas going to fall another 5% today.

Na wa for Transcorp oh! I remember when they were doing their PO sometime ago and I told some folks who were planning to invest to beware. One guy nearly bit my head off, even calling me unpatriotic, bla bla bla. Sentimental investing can be terrible! Well after a while I just had to shut up, abi na my money? wetin come concern fish with raincoat na?  grin grin Someone told me recently that he's still averaging down shocked shocked Amazing!. Don't know why anyone would tie money down there when there are myriads of other opportunities screaming to be picked up. But then again, the risk may end up paying BIG TIME.

@all: can anyone with the MTN prospectus post it? Can't seem to find it anywhere online. Thanks.

Good weekend everyone!

Greetings, greetings, greetings Ladies and gents of the forum! My schedule is twice as busy in the first 6mths of the year as it is in the second, so keeping up with the forum is quite a challenge. However I'll try to post as much as I can.

Just looked through the Acorn Oil PP prospectus, and I have just two words for anyone considering putting their cash in: DON'T BOTHER! I was however impressed that they included a projected CF statement and balance sheet -- this is something I ordinarily have to do myself in analyzing other PPs I've looked at. But from my perspective, the company's future isn't looking exciting at all, and the projections are too too too unrealistic. With Chams for instance,  I also thought the projections were not 100% realistic but even after discounting them by more than 50%, I was still getting interesting valuations. With Acorn however, just reading through the prospectus and crunching the numbers made me yawnnnnnnn continually i'm even still yawning as i'm typing  grin grin The pitch is not just compelling enough. This is coupled with the fact that their margins are too slim and growth appears limited, especially with all the other muscles in the sector. No show jare.

Hot-off-the-grill news: Emerging Capital Partners has invested about $35m in Ocean and Oil, the company that holds 32% of Oando. Yet another sign of goodies to come for the NSE, which incidentally is beginning to feel more and more like an ATM and windywendy is seriously liking it . . .  cheesy

@invisible: I doubt the current bear run will last, as more companies will be releasing results soon. Insurance coys will be releasing results around april/may (going by the timeframe within which 9mths results were released) and the sector will most likely rally in anticipation of that. Be patient.

@loma, your friend's post on the PP for Chams would make a lot of sense if the company's past is going to be the same as its future. Read the prospectus very well. The main catalyst for growth is the CAS terminals to facilitate online banking and bill pay. Not too sure if the online banking will be a huge lift as most banks already have ATMs, but the bill pay will be the hit. Are there risks? YES, YES, a thousand times YES! But that company's future is going to be RADICALLY different from the past. Watch out for the cash flow statements in future. I don't even have the time to go into the potentials that will open up once they're able to interface their CAS terminals with Visa and Mastercard, which are already being rolled out! That's the "meat" of this offer. All the other stuff like the huge government contracts, etc are just what I'll call "extras". Plus the fact that they'll be listing shortly after the PP closes, creates an opportunity to exit if you're not happy with the company's performance in the future. And if I might add, you'll be able to do this with a handsome return. That just moves this PP from Juiccccyyy to yum, yum yummmmyyy  grin grin grin.

@all: Yes, its possible that the PP is closed. I got my invitation to participate yesterday, and even as I was on the phone speaking with the guy, he said the response rate has been CRAZY! I've been given one week to pay up or lose it  grin. UBA Global Markets are the folks you should be speaking to. They're trying to avoid over-subscription. But there's a waiting list though, so perhaps you can get yourself on it. Alternatively, you can call the other issuing houses and see if they've not exhausted their allocation.

@AKtopgun and Pumping777: was just reading your posts on Man-U, Arsenal and Co. Funny! Forget Man-U, Forget Arsenal, forget European football!!! American Football ROCKS! and New England PATRIOTS RULE!!! man-u bow, bow, bow!

I am surprised at the turn of events here! sometimes in early december that i mentioned i wanted to cycle into unity bank, some gurus here said there was nothing good about unity bank, that they will never touch it with a ten foot pole.

When i mentioned that i made a fast 40% in the stock in three months, they still told me the bank is as good as dead. They told me i was being sentimental and will make a mistake because i got lucky last time.

Thank God i didnt listen, went ahead and bought me a few hundred k units, and see how una dey praise the so called dead bank!

You this man, make you take time oh! Apart from bigboylarry, no one has a crystal ball to tell exactly how a stock will perform. At best, predictions can be made based on fundamentals and maybe some technical analysis. Eventhough I'm not one of those who responded to your inquiry, my guess is that at the time there was nothing exciting about the stock then. The peeps who give recommendations here can only do so based on whatever analysis is available, and if I might add, that takes a lot of work and a generous heart. Sometimes they'll be right, sometimes they'll be wrong. But it's all done in good faith. So make you no lash out at any so-called "guru" for doing their best to provide answers to your inquiries.
